Changing Default Rendering Method Of Reports

Jan 29, 2007

Ladies and Gents,

I have a question with regards to the default rendering extensions for reports. I am using RS 2005 with SP1.

I am accessing a report as follows:

http://<ReportServerName>/Reportserver?/<Folder>/<Report Name>

Sample: http://TestServer/Reportserver?/Special Reports/Dealer Report

This displays the parameter bar and the view report button. When pressing the view report button, the report is automatically rendered into HTML 4.0. Is there a way to use the existing parameter bar and automatically render the report to a different extension (such as PDF) when the parameters are entered and the View Report Button is pressed.

Thank You for any advice you can give,

Raph

Suppress Automatic Rendering Of Reports On Startup

Dec 19, 2007

Hello,

We're using Reporting Services for lots of different reports at the moment.
Some of these reports are quite big with thousands of pages.
To speed them up I'd prefer using snapshots, but if I do so, it is necessary to defined a default-set of report parameters.

Unfortunately most of the reports parameters are query based, therefore I cannot choose a default parameter set for startup.
If I start one of my reports it always displays the whole bunch of data and it is rendered immediately after clicking the link.

I have two ideas how this problem can be solved, but I don't know if MSSQL Reporting Services supports my ideas

1) Suppress automatic rendering on report startup somehow. Is it possible to set a parameter somewhere to suppress this "feature" ?

2) Use query based parameters to limit the default startup parameters to only a subset of the available data

Does anyone have an idea how this could be done ?

Best regards
Robert

Trouble Rendering Lines On The Sides Of A Table In Reports

Mar 26, 2008

Hello!

I've been playing around with local reports for a while now. Trying to convert alot (about 800) reports made in a custom format(not XML) to the .RDLC used in MS Reports. I've been able to solve most converting problems by first figuring out how to make the different appearances of the report editor and testing, and afterwards implementing these in my converter program and testing until it makes the desired appearance on screen. Unfortunately I haven't been able to design all the reports similar to the originals(with the editor), so I was hoping somone here might be able to help me with this.

I'm trying to make a box around my table(the repeating part in the body) but find it kind of hard to do this. There are alot of data and the box should be on every page(I really hope this is possible).

I have made a simple report with a header and footer. In the header I have some textboxes and a horizontal line at the bottom. In the footer I have a horizontal line at the top, and som text at the bottom. This was intended for making the top and bottom lines in my 'box'. The rest of the box is made from two vertical lines, one on each side of the table in the body area of the report. These go down from the top of the body to the bottom.

The height of the header is 1 cm, the height of the body is 24.7 cm and the height of the footer is 4 cm making a total of 29.7cm (standard A4 paper height). Hope someone can help me solving this.

Greetings

Different Behavior Between VS And IE In Rendering Reports With Fixed Headers And A Document Map

Aug 6, 2006

I apologize in advance if this is something already addressed elsewhere (if so - please point me in that direction).

I have created a really simple report that allows 'drill-down' at the group level. To this report I also selected the 'Repeat header rows on each page' and 'Header should remain visible while scrolling' features and all worked as expected after deploying.

I then added a Document Map referencing the group level and that too worked within the VS environment. VS displayed a page that contained the requested group in plain view and I could 'drill down' as expected.

But when I deployed the report and subsequently pulled it up in IE I noticed a slightly different behavior in that when selecting an entry from the document map, the start of that group got hidden behind the fixed header such that what was visible was perhaps 1 or 2 group records down. I had to scroll up to see the start of the group I had selected from the document map and then drill down from there.

Removing both the "Repeat header..." and "Header should remain ...." allows me to select a group from the document map (which is always at the top) - but in doing so I lose the fixed header feature.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Bob

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2014 Default Rendering Extension

Sep 25, 2015

I installed SSRS 2014 Reporting Services on a 2008R2 Enterprise server. When I try to subscribe to a report (also SQL 2014), the default rendering is MHTML. I want to change this default to EXCEL.

I updated the rsreportserver.config file and restarted SQL Server Reporting Service.  Now, the default rendering for a subscription is 'XML file with report data' which is the first <Render> data element.  If I change

<DefaultRenderingExtension>EXCEL</DefaultRenderingExtension> back to <DefaultRenderingExtension>MHTML</DefaultRenderingExtension>

And restart SSRS Service, the default subscription rendering is MHTML.

Default Open Method For QA

Dec 21, 2005

Whenever I open a .sql file in QA, the dialog box always displays the files in the 'list' format (you need to scroll side-to-side to see the files). However, I prefer the 'details' format, where I can see the file size and the date created (and sort by them).

Does anyone know how to change the default so I can open files the way I want to open them?

SQL 2012 :: SSRS Virtual Directory - HTTP GET Method Appending Default Path

Sep 27, 2015

There was a 2008 SSRS service running on server "abc".

I have a .Net UI that uses the wsdl at [URL] ....

They deployed SSRS 2012 service on a new server "xyz".

DNS points abc to xyz. Nslookup looks right shows both xyz and abc alias to the same IP.

when I try to go to [URL] .... it redirects to xyz as expected for the host name but the HTTP GET /ReportServer is appended with GET /Reports/ReportServer which doesn't exist and I get an 404 error.

I have no admin rights to see anything and I have no idea if it was an inplace upgrade or a new server. I assume it's new since the actual server name changed in nslookup. Why would it append the default virtual directory when it makes the hop to server "xyz"?

Changing Default Aspnetdb Name

Jan 2, 2008

Hi, can anyone help me please - I'm still struggling with my database.
My set up is: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005, SQL Express 2005, GoDaddy windows shared hosting.
On my PC I have a site which uses membership and the default database which was created after first compilation.
This works fine locally.
However, I need to export this to the GoDaddy server.
To do this I must rename the database (or recreate the project with a newly named database) and figure out how to alter any other settings.
I tried running aspnet_regsql.exe command but I really didn't have any luck.
I would have thought this would be a straight forward operation.
Can anyone give me guidance please.

Changing My Default Database?

Apr 27, 2007

Hi.

I thought I had this solved but after running aspnet_regiis again
I am having the same problem.

I can't log onto my sql server because the default DB is master.
The following command using sqlcmd gives me the master db:

Code:

SELECT *
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
GO

So, to try to fix this i ran:

Code:

EXEC sp_defaultdb 'sa', 'my_default_db'
GO

and no luck. I went over to the DB server and checked
the permissions under SERVER/SQLEXPRESS > SECURITY > LOGINS. All except NTAuthority and Administrators have
my intended DB as the default (including ASPNET).

This is frustrating because I know I have figured it out
before but I can't remember what I did. Help appreciated.

Thanks.

Changing From Default Installation

Jun 27, 2007

Hello,

Our security center just scanned my database server and has asked that I change the database server from the default instance name and change the default port used. When installed MS SQL Server 2000 I used the default installation settings. I have installed SP4 and this is all running on a fully patched WIN 2003 Server machine. Is this possible without un-installing and then re-installing?

Thanks for any and all help.

Changing Default PORT Config

Mar 9, 1999

Hi, I'm supporting a SQL 6.5 application through a firewall & I'm new to NT & SQLServer.
What's the easiest way to find out what port SQL is listening on? It should be 1433 but
the NT guys say 1433 isn't in use. What's the easiest way to change the default port? A search through Books online talks about editing registry keys & I'd prefer not to do this if this can be avoided. Any tips would be appreciated.

Changing The Default Location Of A New Database

Oct 16, 2006

If you enter "Create Database test", the database files (mdf file & log file) are created, by default, in:-
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData
I want to change that to:-
D:Database Files
I sucessfully moved the model database to this location (using the instructions in BOL) assuming that all new databases would now get created in the same location, but they don't. They still get created in:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData

So how do I change the default?
(It's not satisfactory to have to move each database after it's created)

Thanks, Andy Abel

Changing Default Parameters Cause Postback Efresh

Jul 26, 2006

I think it has been discussed previously that having default parameter values based on expressions, e.g. a default parameter value of =Split("Bug",",") in multiple parameters will cause a postbacl whenever a user selects different values from the list.

Is this by design? Its a bit of an annoying thing. The refreshpostback doesnt happen if you have basic defaults like ="All" but only when an expression of some sort is used in more than 1 parameter. Does RS think they are linked or something, why does it need to psotback

I changed port 1433 to 1435 I was able to connect to the instance using SSMS on another server. Now I have to enter Servername,1435 to make a connection. Why does the SQL Browser not resolve the servername to the right IP address and port 1435? Why am I not able to make a connection when I enter the servername or <servername>MSSQLSERVER? Is a SQL Browser only resolving named instances? This works fine for a named instance. Is there something special about default instances or the SQL Browser?

Default Params In E-Mail Delivered Reports

Oct 26, 2006

Hi all,

[Reporting Services 2005]

I have reports delivered by email subscription. My "date from - to" parameters are set to "default" as "=Today()" and "=Now()". Report is delivered fine but I have problems with "link" to that report (attached to email). RS don't add my default parameter values to this link so every time user click this link, report is generated with new "date from" and "date to" and I want to generate exact the same report (same parameters) as in the email.

Is there a way to send default parameter values as static values in email delivered report link ?

Thanks

Maciej
