Changing A Record After Comparing One Database Table To Another

I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express.
In my main database table I have many fields but the two following fields are my main concern.
1) email_address
2) unsubscribe
In my secondary database table I have one record only.
1) email_address
What I want to accomplish... I want to compare the email_address of the secondary database table to the email_address of the main database table and if it exist, change the value of the unsubscribe field. (or if I can't do that, then delete the record within the main database table completely.)
I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

I am trying to pull the records which are being affected i.e, comparing the values and if not same then populating the record.
I am using the below condition in where clause however i am getting runt time error as "Conversion failure when converting date and/or time from character string"
Condition in Where clause:
cast(isNull(tab1.Col1,'') as datetime) <> cast(isNull(tab2.col1,'') as datetime)
Note: Both col1 columns are of type nvarchar

Hi guys, may I know is it possible to create an update trigger like this ? Assuming there are two database, database A and database B and both are having same tables called 'Payments' table. I would like to update the Payments records on database A automatically after Payments records on database B had been updated. I can't use replication because both tables might having different records and some records are the same. Hope can get any assistance here, thank you.

I have the problem of dynamically changing a field value in a row depending on the value of the same field in the previous row, assuming the table is sorted on that field.
:(
You may consider that field as a key of same sort as other values in the table do not help in selecting them uniquely.
Ex.
Before After
130 -> 130
130 -> 130A
140 -> 140
140 -> 140A

Got a question here and as I am no expert programmer, this should be easy for you gurus. I have this fairly generic code I've created where I return data from an SQL table in a DataList control. I want to take it to the next level and return only the last record in the table, but I am unsure of how to do that. Perhaps I shouldn't even be using a DataList control, I'm not sure.

I don't work much with the back end of software development so there is a lot about SQL Server I do not know.
We are building a database. The database will have about 10 tables in it. 3 of these tables will probably have a huge amount of data in them. Specifically each one of the 3 tables will each have about a half a million database records in it. Each record is about 100 characters max in length.(Im am including numbers as characters and summing the individual columns/fields to come up with 100).
Will a SQL server database table with A half a million records in it be possible? We have tried to normalize the database to cut down on the size of the table but it all comes out to about a half a million records per table.
Any help is deeply appreciated.

I have two tables in my database: order_id with fields order (text) and comp_ID (int) and another table called customers with comp_ID (int) and company name (text) and other company information fields. The link between the two tables is the comp_ID. With every order that's made the company that made the order is stored with it in the order_id table. If I type in the order id (text), I want to be able to use the order id to search the order_id table and find out what the comp_ID of the company that made that order is. Then use that comp_ID to pull up the record of company information from the customers table with the same comp_ID. Is there some way to do this in one query? Or how do I accomplish this?

In oracle i found rownum, i could not find it in sqlserver. how the data are extracted from the huge records..
I have used temporary table,map the table primary key to the next table with identity
but i dont find it good. I need to ignore the insert the data in next table or craeting new table having the rowid ...
Is there some other best way to extract the specified data

,I am creating a database where each record is required to have a twin record in the database.These is a type a value and a type b value and both must be present for the record to be valid.
Customer_ID, Order_Type, Product_Code

Is this something that would have to be done programmatically, or is it possible to create a constraint of some sort to ensure this?

I want to be able to open URLs in a new window in my SSRS report, and the URLs keep changing in every record. The problem is these links are not the only things present in the record, and there is other data present. I keep seeing examples where they are considering only a link to be present in the record with no other data.
Also the data in the record includes HTML tags and I checked the option that says "HTML - Interpret HTML tags as styles" on the placeholder properties window.
Example of data in the record:

So when I click on the www.google.com URL, it should open in a new window.

I have a customer table with a postcode and a suburb fields and cutomer info which is manually entered by data entry people...
I am trying to compare the entries against a postcode table with the correct postcodes which have fields postcode and suburb and based on the postcode entered in the customer table it should be the same as the suburb in the postcode table, if they are not the same output them to a table for manual checking..How would I go about this

Lets suppose i am having 2 database that is
Database1 and Database2
Then both datbases are same having same number of tables, sp's, vies and etc.
Then wht i have done is i have added two tables in database1 tb23 and tb24, and at the same time i have added one table out of these two table that is tb23 in the database2,
Now i want a querry by using that querry i am able to find out that how many objects are there that are present in database1 but not in database2. Basically i want to do comparison in between two databases.
ANY QUERRY, OR ANY TOOL by using which we can acheive this.....

Could anybody help me with the following scenario:
Table 1 Table2
ID,Date1 ID, Date2
I would like to link the two tables and receive all records from table2 joined on ID and the record from table1 that has the most recent date.
Example:
Table1 data Table2 Data
ID Date1 ID Date2
31 1/1/2008 31 1/5/2008
34 1/4/3008 31 4/1/2008
31 3/2/2008
The first record in table2 would only link to the first record in table1
The second record in table2 would only link to the third record in table1
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two name columns in my table, NAME1 & NAME2 that I want to compare to see if they match. Only problem is that the order of the first, last, middle name can be either same or different between the two fields.
For example
NAME1 = JAY JOHN SMITH
NAME2 = JOHN SMITH JAY or SMITH JOHN JAY
Is there a way to somehow reorder these fields and then compare using SQL?

I have a list of names, all i have to do is check to see if any of them are in a table, if they are they get deleted. The unique field of the table is title and it is what i have. I don't really know how i am meant to do this. I thought of creating a new table, placing my values into it and comparing to the already existing table, but surely their is a simple way?

I have an entry form allowing customers to enter up to 15 skus (productid) at a time, so they can make a multiple order, instead of enteringone sku, then submitting it, then returing to the form to submit thesecond one, and so forth.From time to time, the sku they enter will be wrong, or discontiued, soit will not submit an order.Therefore, when they are done submitting their 15 skus through the orderform, I want a list showing them all of those skus that came back blank,or were not found in the database.I'm doing this by creating two tables. A shopping cart, which holds allthe skus that were returned, and a holding table, that holds all theskus that were submitted. I want to then delete all the skus in theholding page that match the skus in teh cart (because they are goodskus) which will then leave the unmatched skus in the holding table.I'll then scroll out the contents of the holding table, to show them theskus that were not found in the database.(confused yet?)So what I want to do is have some sql that will delete from the holdingtable where the sku = the sku in the cart. I've tried writing this, butit dosn't work.I tiried this delete from holding_table where sku = cart.skuI was hoping this would work, but it dosn't. Hi all,
I have two tables in SQL Server 2005 and excel sheet ( Office 2003).
The colums of excel sheet are: name ,ssn, flagbit ( Note: Excel sheet contains data already)
Columns of table_one and table_two are: name ,ssn
I want to compare the ssn field from table_one and ssn in excelsheet_one, if it matches , then flagbit in excelsheet_one should say"T1".
If i compare ssn field from table_two and ssn in excelsheet_one, if it matches, the flagbit in excelsheet_one should say "T2".
Ex:
Table_one (input) ---- excelsheet_one ( Output)
ssn name ---- ssn name flagbit
11 NYC ---- 11 NYC T1
Both the tables refers same excelsheet_one and have to update the same flag bit column in excelsheet.
Basically, i want to compare table and excel sheet, then if it matches, then update excel sheet.
Does anybody how to do this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a application that receives GPS lattitude and longitude values. I was originally using file base system where I would load all the points from the file into memory and do the calculations in the software but I now would like to use SQL Server Express.
I have created the tables:
[Table 1] GPS Points:
id int Primary key
latitude real
longitude real
desc nvarchar(128)
[Table 2] GPS Locations (comprises of one or more GPS Points from [1] above) to form a boundary:
GPS Locations database structure is:
locationId int primary key
gpspoint1 int
gpspoint2 int
gpspoint3 int
gpspoint4 int
desc nvarchar(128)
Table 2 contains up to 4 gps points ids from table 1 and GpsPoints1-4 can be null.
I have created the tables and I have inserted GPS values into both tables.
My problem:
I am trying to compare the current Lat/Lon (which are passed into the SQL fuction as two real datatype value) and I want to return all Table 2 locationId's where the current Lat/Lon are withing GPSPoints1-4 area.
gpspoint1, gpspoint2, gpspoint3, gpspoint4 reference an id from Table 1. I am not sure how I can do this?
I have implemetned a SQL function that returns all points from Table 1 that are within the predefined radius of 1.5 miles from the current Lat/Lon values passed in.

Uses a lot of Trig and (for me) is quite complicated. This works very well and is very accurate. It also only uses a single table. I want to be able to now look for the current position within a boundary of 3 or more positions from Table 1 and this is where I am struggling?
Also, any suggestions on how I could do this better would be very much appreciated?
