I am using a foreach file to loop through a folder and pick a file. Then populate a Sql table.
Now I want to check if the file is a mdb and then check if the mdb contains a table called "Customers". If any of these conditions fails, the file should be moved to the Error folder.
How do I do this? Please specify the components to use.
I wrote the below script to print all folders and files located in the share path. How to extend my script to mention by adding another column whether the file is a folder/file , sort of 0 or 1.
I defined the following connection string (strConn) and coded "Dim oConn As New SqlConnection(strConn)".In this VS 2005/ASP.net 2.0 program, 'SqlConnection' was underlined and showed 'Type SqlConnection is not defined' error. What wrong with my VS 2005/ASPnet 2.0 coding, or SQL Server 2000 database configuration? TIA,Jeffrey connectionString="Data Source=webserver;Initial Catalog=Ssss;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=WWW;Password=wwwwwwww"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
I'm contemplating a sql server archive strategy that rolls really old data off any sort of dbms and onto low cost media like dvds in a non relational archive format. I dont want to ever worry about these archives spanning different versions of sql when i go to retrieve a range of data that happens to span sql versions (eg one disc was sourced from 2005 another by 2008 but my report needs a union of both).
So I'm thinking about neutral/efficient formats for these archives and a live homegrown catalog that can determine exactly what disc(s) need to be mounted based on passed from and to date parameters...all so that the data that might span discs (and versions and maybe even schemas) can be merged and loaded into my sql version d'jour's "throw away" archive database for a one time report or other unplanned activity.
I remember raw data types being very convenient as an ETL format for our customers who have ssis, but wouldn't want our sqlexpress customers to be left without the archiving capability. Do the "things" that read and write raw data files really originate in some special T-SQL command that all sql editions can use, or is it strictly an ssis thing?
This is nutty. I never got this error on my local machine. The only lower case m in the sql is by near the variable Ratingsum like in line 59. Happy Friday! A while since I have posted a question, and this one is probably real easy. I am trying to store numeric values from a php form in MSSQL 2000 database. However, the columns are set to float and if the value is 1.00, when entered into the table it is saved as 1
If I change the column type to money, the query fails, with an error message of conversion of datatype varchar to datatype money statement terminated.
anybody know what I need to do? do I need to do something in my query to specify that this is NOT varchar data?
I like to define my procedure parameter type to match a referenced table colum type, similar to PL/SQL "table.column%type" notation. That way, when the table column is changes, I would not have to change my stored proc. Any suggestion?

Implement time interval type in the form of a user defined type in SS2k8r2? Specifically an interval type described in the book Temporal Data and the Relational Model by C. J. Date at all. As an example, an interval is below:
1/4/2006:1/10/2006
which would mean the time period from 1/4 to 1/10.
I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.
I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.
I hope someone can help me work through this.
Thanks in advance,

Hi all, I am developing ASP.NET 1.1 application using VB.NET & SQL Server, on my machine I am using SQL Server 2000, and everything is working just fine. The problem appears when I uploaded the site to the Host, they are using SQL Server 2005, is there any reason for this, I am using casting in the code, and I am sure there is something wrong with the hosting settings. Any suggestions. Best Regards Wafi Mohtaseb
Hello Friends How are you?? Friends i am getting problem in SQL Server 2005. I am deployng web application on production server as well as Databse also. In production server i inserted new field in all tables which is rowguid and its type is uniqueidentifier. The default binding for this field is newsequentialid(). In some pages it works ok but in some places it generates error like 'Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid'. Can anybody help me to solve this problem. Its urgent so plz reply me as soon as possible. I'll be very thankfull to you. Thanks in Advance. Regards,
I have extensively revied both of the design methodologies and I cannot come up with a single clear reason to use one over the other!
Type - Attributes is where you have a table holding the type categories, type, a table holding the type attributes expected and then a table holding the type attribute value:
Now the above sure is flexible in the sence that a type of automobile can be added without affecting the database schema, but was if some attributes do not take a numeric value? How do you handle computations on attributes specific attributes? Why would I use this structure as opposed to the super type - sub type as shown below?
Now, adding new sub types probably isn't very flexible but, now you can specify data types for each attribute instead of using sql_variant, which by the documentation cannot be used in aggregate functions and may render poor result when used with ADO.
Regardless of the method used, alot of back end coding is required for computations, what table to send the attributes, etc...
Can anyone please help me clarify. What method is best and why. So far I am leaning for option 2. More work but seems to be more flexible in the sence of customization of each datatype.
E.G., what if you wanted to specify attributes about the cap that can be supplied to trucks?
I'm trying to use the SSIS Execute SQL Task to pull XML from a SQL 2005 database table. The SQL is of the following form:
SELECT (
SELECT MT.MessageId 'MessageId', MT.MessageType 'MessageType', FROM MessageTable MT ORDER BY MT.messageid desc FOR XML PATH('MessageStatus'), TYPE
) FOR XML PATH('Report'), TYPE
For some reason I can only get this query to work if I use an ADO.NET connection type. If I try to use something like the OLEDB connection I get the following error:
<ROOT><?MSSQLError HResult="0x80004005" Source="Microsoft XML Extensions to SQL Server" Description="No description provided"?></ROOT>
Can anyone tell me why the SELECT ... FOR XML PATH... seems only to work with ADO.NET connections?

I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.
In the For Loop, How to Iterate from Older flat files to Newer flat files based on File's Timestamp. If there are some older files in that folder, it should be processed first and then continue with the newer one.
In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this: 1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found; 2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.
I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.
Thanks for the help in advance and i apologize for the long lines of code!

Can someone show me some C# code for detecting if a SQL row exists or not? This seems like a very typical action and I cannot for the life of me find a tutorial online that explains this step. In my code I'm either going to INSERT or UPDATE a record. I tried sending a SELECT command through a ExecuteNonQuery, but only got -1 as a response. Apparently ExecuteNonQuery does not work with SELECT. I then saw that T-SQL has an EXISTS keyword, but I cannot see anyway to use that from within C#.So...can anyone share the typical code they use to identify if a row exists or not within a database. I guess I was execting there to be some method available to do this sort of thing.

Good morning everyone I am writing a windows forms application that will work similar to the windows messenger popup. I need this application to display a message to the user whenever a record is added to table in my DB. Any help would be appreciated in explaining how I can check the DB for new records.
I've forgotten the character set that I've chosen when I was installing the SQL Server 7. Is there a way to check?
I'm currently using US English version of Windows NT4 and SQL7. But interestingly, all the data is in Japanes characters. It's actually for a Japanese website, and the front-end application is written in ASP. I remember reading somewhere that it is impossible to do certain type of sorting (by some particular order for the Japanese language) as it is limited by the choice of the language of the NT OS.
The type of sorting that I'm looking at is the grouping of 5-characters. One example is in http://www.forest.impress.co.jp/aiueo.html
Would this be possible with my current setup? Or would it help if I migrate over to Windows 2000? (I'd rather not move to Japanese NT4)
Your feedback and advice would be very much appreciated!
Just a brief question. I have a script which does a number of insert statements. What I would like to do is determine if the insert statements were all successful. Aside from checking @@ERROR after every insert, is there a way to check if all the insert statements completed successfully?
I want to do a check to see if a number falls within a range specified by the user. Basically, they enter in a min and max value and I return a hit if a number falls inbetween.
I have having trouble with my SQL statement:
Code:
SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Table WHERE ( (0=0) AND (min.value <= Table.Value <= max.value) )
(This isn't my actual code, but just the logic)
It will return all the results everytime. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could be missing here?
I have a question I hope someone can help me with.
My situation: I have a single-step job in SQL Server, which runs a stored procedure, A. This stored procedure invokes another stored procedure, B. In B, one of the statements is a 'BACKUP DATABASE' command, and a database is backed up to a file.
The job is started by an application. Once started, the application then uses the SQL-DMO property CurrentRunStatus to periodically check the status of the job. When the property returns the value SQLDMOJobExecution_Idle (indicating the job has completed), the application code then continues processing, and attempts to access the .dat file produced by the 'BACKUP DATABASE' command.
My problem: On occasion, the application will hit the problem where either the backup file cannot be located, or the file is still being locked by another process (Error=The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process).
Is anyone able to shed some light on this?
I assume that the job will only return a completed status after: (a) both A and B have completed execution, and (b) the BACKUP operation has completed
Is it possible that even though SQL Server indicates the job has finished, that the BACKUP operation still hasn't completely ended?
I have around 25 sql servers(sql server 2000) all on windows server 2003. i would like to know if anyone has a script that will poll all the servers and check to make sure the agent is running.
