Client Configuration Button Does Not Work...PLEASE HELP!!
Jul 25, 2000
Hello all,
Maybe someone can help mewith this...
Im running NT 4 SP5 on a compaq proliant 3000 server. Trying to create a DSN to connect with my remote SQL 7.0 server. When I click on the client configuration button (to set to TCPIP sockets), nothing happens. So now all DSN's default to named pipes...
Hi, this is my first post here. I hope to be helpful trying to help and not only asking questions arround here. After I have my report ready I will share here the total experience from top to bottom! But for now, here's the issue:
I'm building a RDLC Repor on my ASP.Net VB web application. I added the .rdlc file to the application and created a table to show lines of data binded from a dataset. The thing is:
- The DataSet expects a parameter @intNumber, a identifier to get the correct data to display the correct report.
- I'm using ReportViewer to view the report, and by code I've passed a Report Parameter to the *.RDLC report with success, just like this:
Dim parms(0) As ReportParameter parms(0) = New ReportParameter("intNumber", 37) ReportViewer1.LocalReport.SetParameters(parms)
The present issue is the following: I want to use that parameter sent to the report to be sent to the query of the DataSet as parameter to the query to return the data to fill the report. I've heard that this is not possible, just with report server...
Another issue is the print button, also heard that only can appear on report server...no way to display and work on RDLC reports?Very confused right now...these issues are stupid, MS tools should allow these operations, which are not efficient if this is not possibla on RDLC...
hello it seems lack of c# skills is getting the better of me here...iv been trying to get this to work for hours now without success. I have just started working in c# so i am a beginner :) all i want to do it query the database, check to see if a title exists, if yes then populate textbox saying 'title in use' but if the title doesnt exists then continue executing rest of code to add the title. You'll notice iv tried to use string variables and sqlDataAdapter but i cant get these to work either...please help so far i have this that keeps giving me the error that my button click is undefined: protected void bookButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e){ //string title;try{SqlConnection conn1 = new SqlConnection(); conn1.ConnectionString = "Data Source=Gemma-PC\SQLEXPRESS;" +"Initial Catalog=SoSym;" + "Integrated Security=SSPI;";SqlCommand findTitle = new SqlCommand("SELECT title FROM Publication WHERE title='" + titleTextBox.Text + "';", conn1);
conn1.Open(); findTitle.ExecuteNonQuery(); /* DataSet myDataSetTitle = new DataSet("PublicationTitle"); myDataSetTitle.Clear(); myDataAdapterTitle.Fill(myDataSetTitle);//myDataSet contains results from above SELECT statement title = myDataSetTitle.Tables[0].Rows[0]["title"].ToString();*/ }catch(Exception ex) {TitleInvalidMessage.Text = "Title Not Accepted: This title is already in use by another publication" +ex.Message; } //title does not exist in table so continue and add to database //rest of code here
I setup SQL 7.0 server on NT Server and SQL 7.0 client on NT workstation. I wrote a VC++ program using ODBC to connect database and set ODBC Data Source Administrator as follow:
- Add a new User DSN - setup name, description, server, of User DSN - enter Login ID and psw - Change the default database to "Test" which I've already built on server (leave other options remain) - didn't change any settings in the next page - Test Data Souce successfully.
But when I run the VC++ program, it comes out an error message like this:
SQL Error State:01000, Native Error Code: 1645, ODBC Error: [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Changed database context to 'Test'. SQL Error State:01000, Native Error Code: 1647, ODBC Error: [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Changed language setting to us_english.
Can anyone tell me what are these error codes means? Are there any settings on the SQL server that I forgot to set?
Could someone please explain to me the client configuration utility in plain English please.
I have VB applications installed on the sales force`s laptops that log onto SQL Server through RAS and an ODBC connection. The client configuration utility is not installed on their machines, but everything works fine. The BOL say that when installing utilities, the user is given the option of selecting the net-library to use. I am not, when installing it on my NT Workstation, or W95 Operating system. The BOL also state that the control panel has an entry to allow selecting which protocol to use. I cannot see it
Who needs the client configuration utility installed, obviously not the clients, is it just the people who want enterprise manager on their desktops ?
I am completely confused by this application This is the one area of SQL Server where I am lost, help !
While migrating Report services in SQL Server 2005 to 2014, I am trying to restore the Encryption Key in RS Configuration Manager in2014. But I cannot click the 'Restore' button in RS Configuration Manager. So if I should be grant more right to do so or any other action?
I am looking to automate the rollout of the SQL Native client to our workstations. What I would like to do is use our login script to initiate an unattended install on the workstation. I will create the unattended file using the one that comes with SQL Server 2005 as a guide. This seems pretty straightforward.
More importantly, the other task I want to tackle is adding server aliases to the workstations. I am thinking of creating an alias for each of our applications and pushing the changes out by merging a registry key(maybe WMI? I dont know...). This way, should we need to move application databases to a different instance, we can just push an updated list of aliases to the workstations. The actual storage location remains transparent to the applications and users, (ie no configuration changes).
Has anyone done this or have any ideas? Are there any pros/cons that I have not thought of?
I've my SSIS Packages, having multiple Configuration stored in SQL Server Table named [SSIS Configurations].
And it's devloped on BHUDEV Server ON Devlopmentdb Database. So durring development Default Cofigurations are set for BHUDEV Server.
Problem is that when I install my Package on SQL Server on different Server for example JOHN, and now my database is ProductionDB and [SSIS Configurations] table will be on ProductionDB database. And I've made required changes in [SSIS Configurations] table. So when I run the Package even then it picks configuration information from BHUDEV.Developmentdb.dbo.[SSIS Configurations] table. That's my problem.
But If when during execution time, I change the connection information then it works fine.
Good morning.... I work with many packages in 3 environments...development, homologation and production. I had in each enviroment the table WCOT_Config with your configurations for this enviroment. There's a connection called Config wich have a expression ServerName = System::MachineName to pickup the right server for each enviroment. My package catches the configuration that is in the machine which the expression of the Config points. This was functioning perfectly, but now my new packages that i place in the production server are importing for the development server. Suddenly the configuration stopped to function, but only for the new packages. I have to check anything else for the package uses the configuration ?
If I look under SQL native client configuration | Client protocols, I have no entries and no ability to look at the properties of SQL Native client Configuration. Something is missing which I think is related to an error when connecting to my local server.
sqlcmd -E -S .devmain, 1064
I get error :
Encryption not support sqlcmd: Error: microsoft SQL native Client : Client unable to establish connection
An error has occurred while establish a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections..
In comparison to other machines here at work, it appears my remote connections are configured. But I have no Client Protocols under sql native client configuration, how can I get them in there?
I have created an Integration Services package on my development machine. The package contains a configuration file witch let's say is stored in c:projectsMyIntegrationServicesProjectmyConfigfile.dtsConfig (on my dev machine).
Then I have another "Production" machine where I import the SSIS package into an SQL database. I then create an sql-job with only one step, to run my SSIS package. This works fine if I configure the step to be an "SQL Integration services package" and configure it to use my configurationfile.
However I would like to configure this package as a CmdExec step. In the commandline, I specify /CONFIGFILE "d:....myConfigfile.dtsConfig" (the correct path on the prod machine). But it seems to be ignored, because when I execute the package I get an error telling me that the configuretion file c:projectsMyIntegrationServicesProjectmyConfigfile.dtsConfig cannot be found.
What I try to say is, it seems like it ignors the config-file I specify on the command-line and tries to reach the config-file on a location that's probably stored somewhere in the SSIS package from the time it was created on my development machine.
I am accessing a SQL2005 Express SP1 Server via TCP/IP (all machines fully up to date with windows update). For ease of configuration the Server IP is mapped to an Alias in Native Client Configuration Manager. On the Client Force Protocol Encryption is set to Yes and Trust Server Certificate is set to No. The clients are accessing the DB via SQL 2005 Management studio express and Ms Access 2003 (an access adp front end to the sql database).
As a test i turned off force encryption on the server. A Network trace shows no encryption! Turning on force encryption on the server corrects this.
As a further test I configured the server with a certificate the client doesn't trust. No error is generated by the un-trusted certificate! The only way to generate the certificate error is to enable encryption in the connection properties of each application. Why isn't the Native Client Configuration Manager utility enforcing this???
This brings me on to a second (off-topic problem). In my access adp file, if I enable €œuse encryption for data€? advanced option under the database connection dialog all works as expected (encryption + certificate verification). However, I am programmatically updating the connection in VBA
Application.CurrentProject.OpenConnection "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=AliasName;Use Encryption for Data=True;..."
If I do this no encryption is enabled!!! Access seems to just ignore the encryption statement.
Has anybody got any ideas as to why either of these issues are occurring or if there are any workarounds?

Does anyone know how that I can get the reportbuilder.application to run on a client on the network. It seems that if I have to remote into the actual server to get the report builder to work would be pointless for users on the network. I get the 401 Unauthorized all the time. Any comments would help.
Primary platform is XP as client side and 2003 as server.
When I press F5 in order to see my report from IE appears this error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'SQL1.BDADMIN'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
However, preview button works properly and data are showed. Let me know where am I failing.
We recently migrated from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2005. Now there's a curious thing with some legacy applications. I have pasted some code below. Don't judge me, because like I said, it's legacy.
You can see, that I have two connection strings. One is commented and accessing via SQL Native Client. The other one is doing this through the old SQL Server driver. Funnily enough, when I use the new Native Client driver, the exception "Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)' [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Invalid attribute value" is thrown in the rsPorder2.Update line. With the old driver, this works just alright.
Is this a bug? Is there a way, to make the code run, because we don't want to search the whole application for other occurances, if not necessary.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards, DD

Hey. I've a windows vista machine which can't connect to SQL 2005 box. Other machines which are lower than vista work fine. Also, vista box can connect to other SQL 2005 instances but can't connect to only one instance. But, I can connect to the instance fine from my XP box. Also, it's not a permissions issue. This user is an SA and can connect form some other machine. SQL 2005 box is at 2047 version right now. And, the user is able to connect to some other boxes which are also at 2047. Please help. Thank you
I cannot get the log file path read from the configuration.
If the path in the Connection Manager is invalid, package throws an error "SSIS logging provider has failed to open the log" instead of reading it from the config.file. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the portion of the config file. Everthing else is read from the config file correctly.
I have just finished installing SQL 2005 Ent Edition on Win 2000 Adv Server, SQL2005 SP2, and SP2 Hotfix KB934458. After the installation, I could see and configure all services via SQL Configuration Manager and SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tools. This worked for a couple of days and now both configuration tools no longer detect SQL2005 components. SQL Server Surface Area Configuration issued an error that said "No SQL Server 2005 components were found on specified computer. Either no components are installed, or you are not an administrator on this computer. (SQLAC)". SQL Configuration Manager did not list any installed services. I don€™t know what caused this. Anyone has any idea? Please help! Below is the Installation Report which shows installed components.

Hi --I was wondering if this is a bug when I add new data in my table SSIS Confiurations and give wizard a new Configuration filter the package configuration wizard can not see the new values --the old values from the previous configuration are still showing---is there any known workaround or forced refresh I can do
thanks in advance Dave
Background:
SQL Package Configurations are most important because they provide the possibility of a central configuration store for your entire enterprise!!!!!!!! and is in my mind the only way to go

On Windows XP systems I get the following issue when trying to browse the MSDB folder in SSIS
Client unable to establish connection Encryption not supported on SQL Server. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
I have noticed another post where several others have noticed the same issue. It appears to only occur on Windows XP installations. Is there a workaround or fix for this?
I have SQL2000 installed as the default instance, and now I'm trying to install SQL 2005 standard edition as a named instance.
I receive this error : SQL Server could not connect to database service for server configuration.. [SQL Native client] Encryption not supported on the client. However I'm able to install client tools
The setup works fine on other box with the same config : SQL 2000/Windows XP, is there any work around for this issue ?
In my SQL 2000 client network utilty "Force proctocol encryption " is desabled and did not find the setting for SQL 2005 !
Hello,Is it necessary to upgrade the Client Connectivity Tools on all clientmachines after the SQL Server database server is upgraded from Version7.0 to 2000?Thank you in advance!Eddy
It seems to me, that the best way is to have one Environment Varible containing the name of the SQL Server, so that you can look up the configuration in the SSIS Configuration Table when you run the package.
Is this the preferable way of doing it ? I would like to hear some positive/negative comment of why chosing a configuration type instead of another.
It seems to me that putting all of the configuration in the Environment variable is harder work but most secure (server breakdown vs table corruption/database error...)
I have tried this on several different operating systems (VISTA and XP ) and several versions of SQL NATIVE CLIENT including 2005.90.3042.0
I have a 64 bit "SQL NATIVE CLIENT" connection that fails. The exact same connection and code succeeds on 32 bit. My customer and I prepend "oledb:" to the connection string and it starts working.
FAILS on 64 bit: Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False
WORKS oledb:Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False
I debugged my code to the point that I know it is happening when I call CreateAccessor for my SQL statement.
Hey Guys, I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this but I am trying to achieve the following: I have a row (In this case it is information on a fix) and on a button click I am trying to get it to "archive" it. At the moment I have it so that it it takes the current information and adds it to the archive table adding an archive date. The thing that I am struggling with is incrementing the version number. So, I need it to (in these steps I think) - Look for existance of the other entires of that ID, look for the version number that is related to the newest date of those knowledgeIDs and then add 1 to it. If that knowledgeID doesnt exist then add it as one. My current code is below: Thanks in Advance =) C# Codeprotected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {UserName = (string)Session["UserName"]; Label4.Text = UserName + " Is Current Logged In";UserType = (string)Session["UserType"];if ((Session["UserName"] != null) & (UserType == "Helpdesk")) {Response.Redirect("Accessrights.aspx"); }else if (Session["UserName"] == null) {Response.Redirect("Login.aspx"); } FixName = "default";Description = "default";File = "default"; ADate = myCalendar.TodaysDate.ToShortDateString(); AddDate = Convert.ToDateTime(ADate);myConnectionString = "Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HOF\App_Data\HOF.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;"; }protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString); try { FixName = TextBox1.Text; SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand("select * from Knowledge WHERE FixName like '%" + FixName + "%'", myConnection); myConnection.Open();SqlDataReader myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();if (myReader.HasRows) {while (myReader.Read()) { TextBox1.Text = myReader["FixName"].ToString();TextBox2.Text = myReader["Description"].ToString(); File = myReader["Location"].ToString();if (File != null) { TextBox3.Text = File; } else {TextBox3.Text = "There is no script avaliable"; }KnowledgeID = myReader["KnowledgeID"].ToString();Add = myReader["DateAdded"].ToString(); } myConnection.Close(); } else {TextBox1.Text = FixName + "Does not Exist. Please try again."; } }catch (Exception ex) { myConnection.Close(); } try Description = TextBox2.Text;File = Convert.ToString(FileUpload1.FileName);if (CheckBox1.Checked == true) {SAPPS = "True"; } else {SAPPS = "False"; } {SqlCommand mycommand2 = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO Knowledge (FixName, Description, Location, DateAdded, DateArchived, Version, KnowledgeID) SET ('" + FixName + "','" + Description + "','" + File + "','" + Add + "','"+AddDate+"','" + SAPPS + "','"+I NEED A VALUE HERE+"','"+KnowledgeID+"')", myConnection);SqlDataAdapter myDataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(mycommand2); sa = mycommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); myConnection.Close(); }catch (Exception ex) { myConnection.Close(); } }
I need to make a query to a SQLserver db passing values from a dropdownlist and two text boxes as my criteria. Now if nothing is selected and the button is pressed, I would like to return everything that is part of my Select statement. I am having trouble making my sql statement work.
Im sending you my code as an attachment. I've put * around the area i really need help with.
Even if you could just point me in the right direction as to where to look for a good web forms book using VB.NET and ASP.NET I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,

Hello. When I'm useing a report in reportViewer I have a "back button" in the the viewer which let me go back to my parent report after jumping to another report.
I wanted to make a bigger button like that on the report so I tried to simulate it by creating my own textback and use a javascript to go back one page.
This doesn't work since the javascript doesn't work as well as the built in bottun. Is there a way to simulate this button any way?
I just installed and registered SQL Server Express but I don't see any shortcuts or Start -> Programs links. I found the new folder it created C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2 and I tried to run this file:
