Co-exist Of SQL 2000 And 2005
May 12, 2006
Dear all,
I have SQL 2000 Enterprise mgr and Query Analyzer in my desktop, and I install SQL2005 Express Edition + Mgm Studio today, however, my SQL 2000 Enterprise mgr disappear and all my registered servers disappear too when I open up the SQL 2005 Mgm Studio. Is it mean that I no longer able to use SQL 2000?? How can I rollback the installation of SQL 2005 because I still have to use Enterprise mgr to manage my existing database and clients. (Yes, I give up SQL 2005 now)
Thanks,

My instructions are to install Sql 2005 on server BIGPETE2. I found that there was already an installation of Sql 2000, with databases that I was quite sure should remain as SQL 2000.
According to info I found on the internet, it should be possible to have separate instances of 2000 and 2005, so I went ahead and tried to install, giving the 2005 version a different name, BIGPETE2005. It didn't hit me with any error messages, but neither did it install a different database server. When I was finished, I was able to open Management Studio, but the only database server it could find to open was BIGPETE2, which is not what I wanted.
Enterprise Manager still works, and the mdf dates haven't updated, so I'm guessing the data is still safe, but I need both servers up and running.
Okay, I just read through the installation report, and I saw this:
Service pack requirement check:
Your upgrade is blocked because of service pack requirements. To proceed, apply the required service pack and then rerun SQL Server Setup. For more information about upgrade support, see the Version and Edition Upgrades topic in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
1. What service pack is it asking for?
2. And doesn't that imply that it's upgrading my Sql 2000 installation instead of installing a new instance of Sql 2005?

Hi All, I've got a problem transferring objects between SQL Databases.
The source database is an SQL 2000 dbase, and the destination is a local SQL2005 instance. When trying to transfer I get the error:
0x80040E37 (table) does not exist at the source - but it does.
I am guessing its a schema related issue, I've tried setting the copyschema setting to true, but no joy.
The copyallschemas function doesn't work with an SQL 2000 box so its set to false.
Thanks,
Morgan.

Here is my problem and proposed solution.
If someone knows how to to configure 2003 server to support 2005 Exress and SQL 2000, then do tell.
Problem: Cannot access SQL Express database because SQL 2000 processes have a lock on the MDF file.
Details: The particular database is used by an application we sell, and I have no idea why SQL 2000 would want to put a lock on SQL Express DB,but it does. I found that stopping the sql 2000 services and restarting the Express services resolves the problem.
Solution: (let me know if there is a better one)
I will tell customers to run the following .bat file (or will have the applicaiton automatically do this at startup):
net stop "SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)"
net stop "SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)" /y
net stop "SQL Server FullText Search (MSSQLSERVER)"
net stop "SQL Server Reporting Services (SQLEXPRESS)"
net stop "SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)"
net start "SQL Server Reporting Services (SQLEXPRESS)"
net start "SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)"

Hi
We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.
If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?
Please help us.

I just started getting into C# programming, and downloaded the express version for work and at home. At home, I also installed SQL Server 2005 Express, but not at work, since I already have the full version installed. Unfortunately, Visual Studio Express won't recognize the full version of SQL Server, and I was wondering if there would be any problems installing both the full and express versions side by side. As this is my work computer, I don't want to risk it unless I know it's safe. Thanks for any help.

Hi all,
I am looking for a way to leave a Data Flow Task destination table name as-is, and have SSIS auto-create the table if it doesn't exist already.
I searched on this in the forums but based on the question it's difficult to kow if it has been answered or not.
Details:
I am writing some SSIS packages that need to be executable on another server. Many of the Data Flow Tasks copy data (such as from a Fuzzy Grouping transformation, and lots of other stuff) into a new table. But the other server will not have these tables set up for the first run.
My current solution is to check information_schema.tables and drop IF EXISTS. But, then the Data Flow Task will not work (becase table does not exist). So, I script to new window a create table statement based on the existing table that I use in my dev environment. This is a hack and I want to find a better method.
It is quite possible (although unlikely) that the source columns could be changed in the future, or some query used to pull the data might be modified. If this happens, then I would need to change the CREATE TABLE Execute SQL task. I want my package to accommodate without having to modify it.
When I use the Import/Export Wizard, I can select a table name from the drop down list OR type in a new name. When I type in the new name, it assumes I want to create the table. NOW, is there a way to mimic this in BI Developer Studio? Yep, I saved the Wizard version of the SSIS package and all it does is run a CREATE TABLE statement first.
I am looking for a way to leave a Data Flow Task destination table name as-is, and have SSIS auto-create the table if it doesn't exist already.
Any ideas?

I know this has been asked and addressed in many other posts, but I havnt found the answer to this scenario. I have a server running on my internal network, I have a wireless router that has ports 80 and 5801(my sql port) forwarded to my server internally. So, from my website I am attempting to make some requests to my server, but all I ever get at these Error:[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied errors. My connection string looks like this: Private DBConn As OleDbConnection Dim DBCommand As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand Try DBConn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=external IP,5801;Initial Catalog=DataWarehouse;User Id=WEBUSER;Password=*****") DBCommand.CommandText = "SELECT * from Users" DBCommand.Connection = DBConn DBConn.Open() DBConn.Close() Catch Response.Write("Error:" & Err.Description) End Try End Sub I know I have a service running on port 5801 and the port is open in my firewall, also I have sqlserver.exe as an exception in my firewall. I have been browing the web and trying different ideas for the better part of a week. Just wondering if anyone has run into this problem or if its my server or my web hosting company who has the problem. Thanks in advance for any help. Kyle

Hello all,
I have a branch a data, now i need to search through a database to check whther it is exist in that database or not, any syggestion?
Example:
Now i have data 123, 234, 345. Let say data 123 and 234 is exist in that database, but data 345 is not exist in that database.
What SQL am i suitable to use to get those result exist(123, 234) and those result not exist (345)?
The database structure is someting like this:
ID NAME O_NAME
-- ----- --------
1 120 123
2 234 234
3 345 345
1) The data consider 'exist' if it exist in column NAME or column O_NAME (either one).
2) The data consider 'not exist' if it not exist in neither NAME column nor O_NAME column
After the SQL query, someting is expected:
Exist:
ID NAME O_NAME
-- ----- --------
1 120 123
2 234 234
Not Exist:
ID NAME O_NAME
-- ----- --------
3 345 345
I'll appreciate if anyone can provide me a solution..Thanks!

I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" /> </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000? (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

I have to merge the data from two databases, one is in SQL Server 2005 format, one is in 2000. The merged data will then reside on a SQL Server 2000 platform. Is there an easy way to do this through Management Studio or Enterprise Manager? Or will we have to export the data from the 2005 database to a flat file and import it into a new 2000 database. And then do the merge?
TIA

I am in the process of migrating from Sql Server 2000 to 2005. Part of my plan is to move some database's to 2005, but use the 2000 compatibility mode for the short term. My issue is this, our DR boxes are still on SQL Server 2000, would I still be able to use our log shipping processes? Or would I be better off in starting with migrating the DR boxes to 2005 first?
Thanks in advance.

I have several SQL 2000 servers I need to setup transactional (non updatable) replication with. The structure is:
SQL Server 2000 as Publisher/Distributor
SQL Server 2005 Standard as Subscriber
The connection is via the Internet with snapshots using FTP.
I setup the first set (2 databases at location A). They work wonderfully. I created the publication and then subscribed using MGMT Studio for 2K5.
II am setting up the same scenario for location B. Here is my problem:
In MGMT Studio I connect to the publisher (SANDRA). I right-click a publication and choose New Subscriptions..., the publication is already selected. I click next - Run each agent at its Subscriber is selected and the only option (this is desired), I click Next
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
On the Subscriber's screen there are no Subscribers listed. When setting up location A the subscribing server was listed and I could choose a database. The Next button is greyed out and there is no way to create/add one.
I tried setting up the subscription by right-clicking the subcribing server's Replication folder in MGMT Studio but I get the same result (except that I have to authenticate with the publishing server which works fine).
WHAT'S DIFFERENT:
Location A is SQL Server Standard (SP3) running on SBS2K3. It is obviously on a domain and so SQL Server and the SQL Agent are running under domain accounts. Location B is a Windows XP SP2 machine running SQL Server Personal Edition (it actually says Development Edition in the properties window).
The databases are the same strucutre, different data. At location A the firewall is set to allow 1433->*any* and *any*->1433 where *any* is 1024 or higher. On the XP machine the firewall is set to allow port 1433. I don't think this is the issue because I've turned the firewall off on the XP machine and I get the same result.
ANY IDEAS?

Most of our sql servers ar still sql 2000. Our programmers created many sql 2000 database diagrams using EM. But they can not access them under sql 2005. (They now have only sql 2005 tools installed on their boxes.)
Question: can we reinstall the sql 2000 client tools on their boxes without affecting the current sql 2005 install on their boxes?
Question: is there any workaround negating the need to ihstall the sql 2000 client?
TIA,

Hello,
I had set up a MS Small Business Server with MS SQL Server 2005 and recently someone wanting to use Microsoft Dynamics with SQL Server Express installed SQL Server Express on the same server.
It appears that the developers have used SQL Server express to run queries against the SQL Server 2005 database and tables, and now SQL Server Express (Dynamics) has ground to a halt.
When I view the SQL Server Express server, I see all of the SQL Server databases. When I use Enterprise Manager, I used to see the SQL Server Express instance, but disconnected it.
Is there a way to remove the connections to the SQL Server 2005 from SQL Server Express without harming the SQL Server databases? I am unsure as to what will happen, and which is controlling which. I am a long time user of MS SQL Server 2005, and the connections and uses of SQL Server Express are foreign to me.
Any help, or info, or links you can point me at would help -
thanks,
Canadian Chick

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to connect to Desktop SQL Server 2000 from Windows mobile PC Emulator (VS 2005). I need a direct connection using connection string to SQL Server 2000 through local wireless network without IIS.
Bellow is the code that I use. After executing this code I get an error on line Conn.Open(). Error says SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
SQL is un and running, and I can log in using SA username from the desktop. Even if I chance IP for another SQL server in my connection string I still get the same error. There is no firewall of any kind running.
Dim connectionSTR As String = "Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=False;Server=192.168.0.202,1433;initial catalog=MyDB;user id=sa;password=;"
Dim Conn As SqlConnection
Conn = New SqlConnection(connectionSTR)
Conn.Open()
If Conn.State = ConnectionState.Open Then
MessageBox.Show("Open")
End If
About my environment: SQL Server 2000 is running on Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. Application which I need to connect to SQL Server is in Visual Studio 2005. I execute the application in Windows Mobile PC Emulator and try to connect to SQL Server from emulator.
Your advice and help is very appreciated

Hello,
I would like to ask you if there is better to recreate database structure on 2005 from 2000 and move data or to just load
2000 backup.
Currently I loaded the backup, but I am wondering if there might be slightly better performance on 2005 when recreating structure on 2005 to loading 2000 backup?
Does loading 2000 backup create 2005 binary structure?
Thanks for help in advance

If we changed the sort order from BIN to BIN2 but kept everything else the same will it have any effect on replication? So in SQL 2005 if I were to change my default collation from Latin1_General_Bin to Latin1_General_Bin2, would that cause replication to break? I suspect that it will not be an issue since it is just sort order that is changing and the code page stays the same.
BTW, this is transactional replication. Sorry, I left that out of my original post.
Thanks,
Grant

Hi, everyone,
I am new in SQL server 2005. I had setup SQL server 2005 P2P replication. Somehow it did not work one of two way replication. I tried to delete the publication. However I could not do it. have the same problem. When I tried to delete the publication, I got the publication " " does not exist.[SQL server error: 20026]. I tried to use sp_droppublication, it gave me error "the database is not enabled for publication". Nevertheless, I can see the publication in MS SQL Management Studio and Publication monitor with OK status. I could not find the distribution database either.
Could you anyone has ideas to delete this publication? I am sorry I am not a programmer. Please give me more detail explanation if you can. Thanks.
