ColdFusion Error With SQL Server Express
Mar 14, 2006
Hello,
I am receiving hte following error when I open my ColdFusion web page.
[Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Numeric value out of range
My problem is that this doesn't seem to be referring to a numeric field. I can run my page just fine without the query asking for the field "Description", which is a varchar(max). I have another table with the same exact field (data type, properties) that is called from a different web page using ColdFusion and that one works fine. I have recreated my table, rewritten the ColdFusion query several ways, and just cannot find an answer! I can't really even decide if it's a SQL Server problem or ColdFusion.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Nicki

Coldfusion Web appls from Oracle to SQL Server 2005 - How to use Application Roles in Coldfusion.
Is there anyone who has used application roles in Coldfusion Applications? How would you set this up?
I know how to set up application roles. If you establish your application role and you move from one page to another, how would you run cfquery since you loose your initial user connection in place of the application role connection. Are there alternatives to using application roles in Coldfusion?
Sample code would be helpful.

webacadie hit the nail on the head.Thanks a bunch.Finally I got coldfusion administrator to talk to Northwind database in sql server 2005 express.Basically all I did was look for TCP dynamic port under IPALL.Made a note of the number and enter it in the administrator.Also used 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.Works like a charm.

Good Evening All,
I've serached this forum and Google'd for a resolution to this issue, to no avail. Here's the scenario:
I'm running VS 2005 on Windows Media Center laptop and need to create ASP.net membership for my web application built using VB. I have SQL Server Developer installed with instance name MSSQLSERVER. Previously, I uninstalled SQL Express and installed Developer edition and can now open and utilize Management Studio.
Now, when I try to create a new SQL Server database in my solution's App_Data directory, I receive the above error. I already changed instance name in VS2005 per Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to MSSQLSERVER.
Could someone provide me with a list of procedures to ensure proper setup of VS2005 with SQL Server Developer Edition?
Thanks much for your help.

This question is for someone experienced with both SQL Server Express and NUnit. I think the answer might be simple, but I would like to understand what is going on and how to prevent it. I have a test class with a TestFixtureSetUp section that calls a method to drop and re-build my database from scratch, including tables for the Membership and Roles provider. This code works fine. After TestFixtureSetUp runs, I have a test to verify that there are 3 records in the Membership database which were added when the database was re-built. The code looks like this:
[Test]
public void MembershipUsersTest()
{
int expectedNumberOfUsers = 3;
MembershipUserCollection users = System.Web.Security.Membership.GetAllUsers();
Assert.AreEqual(expectedNumberOfUsers, users.Count);
}
When this test runs along with the TextFixtureSetUp code, I get this error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException : Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'TERRY-COMPUTERTerry'.
However, if I re-run this test but block the TestFixtureSetUp code that re-builds the database, the test passes fine.
I'm guessing it's just a simple matter of NUnit somehow locking access to the database when the database is rebuilt, but I am not understanding why this is happening. My code for re-generating the database uses a "using" construct, so the connnections should be closing properly.
using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
{
FileInfo file = new FileInfo(fullScriptPath);
string script = file.OpenText().ReadToEnd();
Server server = new Server(new ServerConnection(conn));
server.ConnectionContext.ExecuteNonQuery(script);
}
Any insights into why I am getting this error and how I can avoid it and still run my Membership test right after I re-build the db?
One additional piece of information that might be important. The code for rebuilding the databases uses the following connection string:
@"Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True"
Whereas the Membership provider uses the following connection string which has a hard-coded path to the database:
"Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=C:MyAppsMyAppsWebApp_DataMyApp.mdf"

But when I want to connect with SQL Server Express using Sql server authentication it gives me the following error:
Login failed for user 'FAB'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
Error Number 18452,
I have searched [ Sql Express Error 18452 ] from google and read many articals but I can't find any artical which can solve my problem.

The "Setup Progress" window displays the selected components to be configured.
After completion, the window displays a red x beside Reporting Services.
On all the other results, you can click and view a log generated during installation.
Clicking on the "Reporting Services" (that didn't install) does not display the log file.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Trint

Just manged to install sql server 2005 express after two days. I have a problem now! When i try to connect to it via my browser (local database), i get the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have opened the surface area configuration manager and set the connections to remote and local but it still doesnt work
Any ideas would be great

I was trying to return the month name in a query but didn't get the results that I expected. To demonstrate, I wrote this query:
SELECT GETDATE(), DATENAME(DAY,DAY(GETDATE()))
SELECT GETDATE(), DATENAME(MONTH, MONTH(GETDATE()))
and got this result:
----------------------- ------------------------------
2007-10-11 14:54:29.147 12
(1 row(s) affected)
----------------------- ------------------------------
2007-10-11 14:54:29.147 January
(1 row(s) affected)
Am I doing something wrong or is SQL Server doing something odd? I need to find a fix for this pretty quickly and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have a laptop with 512Mb RAM, about 4Gb available disk space, processor Intel Pentium 1.4GHz. The O/S is Microsoft XP Professional. As I understand the info given on the SQL Server Express page, it should install under XP Professional.
Now, when I start installation everything seems OK. I get a particularly promising red message informing me that I already have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. However right at the very end I get this message:
The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine <machine name> Error: 2147746132 (0x80040154). Installation then stops.
I tried one of the solutions suggested (this one:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/201234 )
which involved searching for these 2 files: Crsdll.dll and Crsapi.dll - but couldn't find them. Nor could I find the Microsoft Site ServerBin directory referred to. Yet allegedly SQL Server 2005 Express does install under XP Professional, so this all seems rather odd. Can anyone out there enlighten me?
I should point out that I have a student edition of MS Visual Studio 2003 connecting to the Northwind database installed, and wonder if this is affecting things. Alternatively, is my machine simply not powerful enough (e.g. insuffcient RAM or something)?
Any suggestions gratefully received! I intend to devote Monday (2nd April & a day off for me) to trying to sort it out myself anyway.

I've been trying to configure remote connections to my sql server express to no avail.
First here are some constants to clear some things up:
- OS: Windows XP Pro
- SQL Express version: April CTP release
- Windows Firewall: disabled (to avoid any problems there)
- Network type: two computers connected a router.
- Router firewall: Enabled (I may be wrong but the router firewall only blocks external traffic, so I left it on.)
First, I configured my SQL server to allow remote connections in the SQL Surface Area Configuration. (Set it to both TCP/IP and named pipes)
Second, I enabled and configured sql server browser.
Third, I enabled TCP/IP and named pipes in the 'Protocols for SQL Express' option of the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
According to http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2005/05/05/415084.aspx
I have done everything I need to (including edit the registry to enable the SQL Server Browser service) and the error I continue to get is:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)"
So I tinkered and had no success in messing with anything that would fix it. Although, ***when I browsed for network servers on different machine, the server instance DID show up in the list***. So I find it odd that it can find the instance when browsing, but fails to 'find' it when making a connection.
So I didn't stop there, I decided to try the non-sql server browser method of remotely connecting: specifying the IP.
I went back to the blog of instructions referenced above and re-did the steps, this time specifying a TCP Port for the server instance and then after specifying the port on the remote computer connection string, and attempting to connect, I get this error:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10060)"
I've done all I know how, read all the possible blogs I can, and nothing's come up. If anyone can shed some light on me, I'd pay you 1 billion pretend dollars. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I've been trying to install SQL Server Express 2005 on my machine at home (XP Pro). However, when I get done, I get the following error when I restart my computer (at the login screen): "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Error getting instance ID from name.). Please uninstall the re-run setup to correct this problem."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times, with always thesame result. I had Visual Studio Orcas Beta 2 installed, so I thought that might have had something to do with it. I uninstalled everything development related on the machine (including all versions of the .NET Framework), and am still getting the same error. I tried installing along with Visual Studio 2005 (since it can be installed through the VS installer), same error.
I haven't been able to find any helpful information on this error. It seems everyone else is seeing it when they try to open Management Studio or some other program, but I am seeing it on system start.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'd really like to get this working.
Thanks.

I was running the setup program and it popped up an error message:
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
I looked at ERRORLOG and it says:

What does this mean?
Thanks!
