I know there is no native encryption in SQL2K, but what 3rd party encryption tools would other forum members recommend from experience? I am required to encrypt data for PCI compliance.
Thanks

I developed an app which stored data in SQL 2005, and encrypted some data using EncryptByPassPhrase( PassPhrase, TheData ), DecryptByPassPhrase( PassPhrase, TheData).
One of the implementations of this will have to store the data in SQL 2000, which doesn't support this functionality. Is there a simple data encryption functionality somewhere that I can implement within a stored proc so I can have my app be independent of the back-end data base server?, i.e. so I can have two different stored procedures depending on the back end db, and not to have the front end handle the encryption?
Thanks

What is best way to encrypt password field in sql server 2000?.
Is there any system stored procedure to encrypt password?.
What kind of algorithm password encryption method uses?.
I know that it is possible to encrypt data fields in SQL Server 2005, but I can't find anything about data encryption in the Compact Edition. Is this possible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to implement the column encryption on one of the tables, have used the below link as the reference and got stuck at the last step.

I have completed the following steps so far.
- CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = ‘myStrongPassword’
- CREATE CERTIFICATE MyCertificateName
WITH SUBJECT = 'A label for this certificate'
- CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY MySymmetricKeyName WITH
IDENTITY_VALUE = 'a fairly secure name',
ALGORITHM = AES_256,

Example by using the function
EXEC OpenKeys

SELECT Encrypt(myColumn) FROM myTable

SELECT Decrypt(myColumn) FROM myTable

SELECT Decrypt(myColumn) FROM myTable
I get the following error :

Where will I use the convert function, in decrypt function or in select statement?
Hello all,
I'm have set up sql 2000 in an active/passive cluster setup and I am looking to encrypt the data transfer from my backend DMZ (where the sql boxes reside) to the frontend dmz web servers.
I know there is a "check box" option but it says I need an encyption key to enrypted the data. From what I understand Certificate server 1.0 is not very good and the certificate services in Win2k requires ADS.
Is there another alternative?
Thanks,
Troy

With SQL Server 2005 encryption:
1. Is it possible to encrypt a column "in place" - or do we always need to create a new varbinary column to hold the encrypted column? Some products (NetLib Encryptionizer) seem to be able to encrypt an existing column in place.
2.If you encrypt an existing column to a new varbinary column, it it customary to then ALTER the table and delete the existing plain-text column?
Thanks...
Hi
There is a very sensitive table that holds a very sensitive field (i.e. a person's salary). I have a requirement to programmatically encrypt it when the value is stored (I can do that quite easily in the VB client app), but there are times when a suitably 'sa' user should be allowed to perform a SELECT of the table and to view the salary field in the clear.
I think a SQL2000 user-defined function can do the job. The catch is that the client is running SQL 7 and he will only upgrade 'over his dead body', or words to that effect.
Appreciate any ideas you can give!
Cheers & TIA

How do I add a column in SQL Server table in between two other columns?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have created two user defined functions for encryption and decryption using passphrase mechanism. When I call encryption function, each time I am getting the different values for the same input. While I searching a particular value, it takes long time to retrieve due to calling decryption function for each row.
best way to encrypt and decrypt using user defined functions.Below is the query which is taking long time.
SELECT ID FROM table WITH (NOLOCK)
                    WHERE dbo.DecodeFunction(column) = 'value'
When I try to use symetric or asymetric encryption, I am not able to put "OPEN SYMETRIC KEY" code in a function. So, I am using PassPhrase mechanism.
I want to enforce a unique constraint on a column which must be encrypted in MSSQL 2005 using Cell Level Encyption (CLE).
CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'itsaSECRET!!!3£3£3£!!!'
CREATE CERTIFICATE ERCERT WITH SUBJECT = 'A cert for use by procs'
   CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY ERKEY
   WITH ALGORITHM = AES_256
   ENCRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE ERCERT
[Code] ....
The output makes it obvious why the constraint has 'not' been enforced.

Hi,I am trying to access the data inside a text column in the database and display it on a page. The problem is, I cannot see the full data when I execute the stored procedure in SQL Server and also on the asp.net page.it seems Sql server clips the data if it is more than 3000 characters. Is there anyway I can see the whole data that is stored in that particular column.I do not understand why asp.net is also clipping the data. What container can I use to display the text? I have tried Literal, string, placeholder but nothing shows the full text that is supposed to be in the database.I have seen some people using byte arrays but I am not sure how I can use them to display data on a page. If anyone has done this before or had a similar problem please reply back.Thanks.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHi. I'm creating a new publication for replication. There are a few columns on our main database I do not want published as they contain some confidential information. When I go to create a new publication, I go through the wizard and I select the option to filter rows vertically. I uncheck the columns I don't want published and the wizard completes without any errors.
When I go to start the Snapshot agent to create the database on new server, it gets error saying it cannot find certain columns--the columns I do not want published to begin with.
Am i doing something wrong? I appreciate any help you may provide!

I am being told that the colid in syscolumns may not exceed 255 if the table is replicated. Is that true? Where in BOL or elsewhere can I read-up on this? This is a shocking development!!!

I'm trying to implement a site search. The only problem is that some of the pages have more than 8000 characters (like the press release pages) so I had to use the TEXT datatype (sql server 2000). I wrote a simple stored procedure to query the column, however it does not return any results. I'm assuming this is due to the fact that it is the TEXT datatype. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Code below:
CREATE PROCEDURE sp_SiteSearch

Currently, I have a table like so:

I would like to insert a file into the file column.
The problem is reading the file from the filesystem into the database.Could anyone give me some advice on the best way to do this?

How do we Encrypt a field values of a table in SQL Server 7.0

hey ppl..
i am creating a client that can access straight into the sql db using vb.net.
is there a way encrypt the data from the client and the sql server will decrypt the data and visa versa?
I'm trying to encrypt a column in my table using
EncryptWithPassPhrase( @PASSPHRASE, @COLUMNDATA)
My Question is, does PASSPHRASE have to be (at least ) as long as the column data? Is there a problem if it is longer>
I'm only storing part of the results, and it looks like the # of characters I'm storing is the length of my passphrase.
Thanks,
Phil
