I have written a query to join the values of multiple field, but lacking in as how will I formulate a view which will check for the duplicate values of Num fields and merge there values in a single field like season.

I have a table called BidItem which has another table calledBidAddendum related to it by foreign key. I have another table calledBidFolder which is related to both BidItem and BidAddendum, based on acolumn called RefId and one called Type, i.e. type 1 is a relationshipto BidItem and type 2 is a relationship to BidAddendum.Is there any way to specify a foreign key that will allow for thedifferent types indicating which table the relationship should existon? Or do I have to have two separate tables with identical columns(and remove the type column) ?? I would prefer not to have multipleidentical tables.

We have a piece of software and database for student registers.
One of the biggest problems is the database has been difficult to work with, as I have had to work out the date using dateadd functions and combine fields from different tables.
I've now got the date correctly, but I want to add the time to the time part of a datetime field.
The time field is already stored in a datetime field, but the date in this field is always 1899-12-30.
This is the function I am using to get the date:

DATEADD(dd, e.day_of_week, DATEADD(ww, sm.week, '01/08/2011'))
And this is the function I use to get the time (from a datetime field):

SUBSTRING(CAST(e.start_time AS varchar(20)), 13, 5)
With the DATEADD function it appears you can only add individual elements each time hh, mi, ss.
Would I have to add a DATEADD function for each time element in order to add the time to the date?

I have one table with text column(varchar50) and 2 value columns(INT)
it looks like this:

What i want to do is to combine c3 on row 3 and 4 so the output would look like this:

I have tried to use CASE with no luck.

I have to fetch FromDate and Todate values from the table like this.Suppose Fromdate value is 02-Feb-2007 and Todate Value is 04-Feb-2007,then my need is to get the date value like this......Feb 2-4,2007or 2-4 Feb,2007.Can anybody know the syntax or code?.I am using sql Server and fromdate and todate values are stored in two different feilds in table.

Hello I am new to SQL Server 2005 and am designing my first database.
In the AdventureWorks sample database the city field is included with the street address where it repeats for each row.
Why would you not put it in a separate table with state/province or a separate table all togeather?

I have a robust query that returns a dataset and the data is good, however some of the records contain the exact same data with the exception of the 'Price' field. I want to combine the records that are identical and SUM the values in the 'Price' field. My query and example return dataset is below.

I am trying to create a report using Reporting Services.
My problem right now is that the way the table is constructed, I am trying to pull 3 seperate values i.e. One is the number of Hours, One is the type of work, and the 3rd is the Grade, out of one column and place them in 3 seperate columns in the report.
I can currently get one value but how to get the information I need to be able to use in my reports.
So far what I've been working with SQL Reporting Services 2005 I love it and have made several reports, but this one has got me stumped.
Any help would be appreciated.

I might not have made my problem quite clear enough. My table has one column labeled value. The value in that table is linked through an ID field to another table where the ID's are broken down to one ID =Number of Hours, One ID = Grade and One ID= type of work.
What I'm trying to do is when using these ID's and seperate the value related to those ID's into 3 seperate columns in a query for using in Reporting Services to create the report
As you can see, I'm attempting to change the name of the same column 3 times to reflect the correct information and then link them all to the person, where one person might have several entries in the other fields.
As you can see I can change the names individually in queries and pull the information seperately, it's when roll them altogether is where I'm running into my problem

I have a book cataloge where I have an author id linked up to the book.However, I'm finding that some books have mulitple authors, and I'mwondering if there is a way to add more than one id to the author idfield. I'm using DTS to import data from an Access memo field into a SQL Server ntext field. I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.
I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits.
The mfg_start_date is delcared as a string variable
mfg_start_date = CStr(CDate(Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 3, 2) & "/" & Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 5, 2) & "/" & Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2)))

I will have to declare the mfg_start_date as date but I need to send in a blank value for this variable in the stored procedure. It won't accept a null or blank value.

I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE" .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.

I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.
What options do I have that will work?

I have a very strange situation. I've increased the size of an NVARCHAR field from 8 to 9 in a database table. The format of the data that I enter will either be an 8 character field (123456-8) or a 9 character field (1234567-9). The '-' is critical.
It used to only accept the 8 character version, but after increasing the field size, if I try to insert the 9 character field version, it gets truncated after the '-', as though it's still only allowing 8 characters. But that only occurs when I include the '-' or other such characters like '#'. If I try to insert 1234567a9, it works. The following explains the outcomes:
Inserted Value -> Result in table
123456-8 -> 123456-8 *Correct
1234567-9 -> 1234567- *Wrong
123456789 -> 123456789 *Correct
1234567#9 -> 1234567# *Wrong
1234567a9 -> 1234567a9 *Correct
Why is it that characters such as '-' and '#' are truncating the value, but only if the string is 9 chars long?
I'm currently using a direct t-sql insert statement in SQLExpress. The field is a simple NVARCHAR(9) field.

Morning all,
I'm writing an Insert form which will write records to a few tables. What I want to know is how do I write multiple answers to one question in different rows in the table but keeping the ID?
For example.
The form has the following fields:
HotelIDHotelFacilities (CheckBoxList)
Now each hotel (in this case) will only have one ID but more than one HotelFacility .
How do I get my table to read...

I presume INSERT INTO tblHotelFacilities(HotelID, HotelFacility) VALUES(@HotelID, @HotelFacility) won't write more than one selected facility?Thanks,Brett

Hi,
I'm importing an Access database to SQL Server 2000.
The issue I ran into is pretty frustrating... All Memo fields that get copied over (as Text fields) appear to be fine and visible in SQL Server Enterprise Manager... except when I display them on the web via ASP - everything is blank (no content at all).
I didn't have that problem with Access, so I ruled out the possibility that there's something wrong with the original data.
Is this some sort of an encoding problem that arose during database import?
I would appreciate any pointers.
