This problem is only in production database any testing database include adventureworks mirroring sucessfuly. Why is problem:?
size? database > 9GB
slow HW? Principal database Intel D 3Ghz,4GB RAM, 4x 15k RPM HDD RAID 5 / Mirror database 2x Xeon 3Ghz,4GB RAM,6x HDD 10k RPM RAID 10
Slow LAN? both servers connect 1Gb/s

When I issue this command:
ALTER DATABASE foo set PARTNER = 'TCP://10.3.3.1:1234'
I get this error message:
The database is being closed before database mirroring is fully initialized. The ALTER DATABASE command failed.
What does that mean, and how do I fix it?

I configured a database mirroring on SQL server 2008 R2 on test environment. However It was not working, after some time. I deleted the mirroring configuration and also deleted database on both primary and mirror instance.
few days later I notices, On Primary, Continuous error events logged with message "database mirroring attempt by user 'domainservice account' failed with error 'connection handshake failed, 'domainservice account' does not have permission on the endpoint state 84.
I want to get rid of this message.

I'm setting up a simple SSRS implementation for a non-profit organization, using two servers hosted at a data center. The first server has SQL Server Standard Edition and Reporting Services installed. I've designed and deployed a number of useful reports on this server.
I was hoping to isolate this first server by installing IIS and SSRS on the second server, have users browse from the Internet to that second server (over SSL, of course), and have all reports served up from databases (and, presumably, the report server database) on the first server.
During the installation of SSRS on the second server, however, I'm being prompted to specify the service account. According to the help text:
"Reporting Services. Service accounts are used to configure a report server database connection. Choose a domain user account if you want to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance. If you are using a local report server database, you can use a domain user account or Local System to run the service."
I believe I want to configure SSRS to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance; therefore, it appears that I need to enter a domain user account. The only problem is, neither server belongs to a domain; they are members of a simple two-server workgroup.
Does SSRS, configured to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance, require a domain? Does what I'm hoping to accomplish require a domain? Creating a two-server domain seems like overkill for this implementation, doesn't it?

I downloaded VS studio express, and created a personal website using the wizard to test drive the thing. When I hit ctr + f5 to run the sample provided, then I get this message:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) "
I tried disabling the firewall (Norton's firewall because Windows is disable always). Any suggestions? This is a brand-new machine, running XP sp2, just downloaded the VS studio express.

I've read here at [URL] that with 32 bit it's recommended to only have 10 database mirrors per instance.  However, is there a limit for 64 bit SQL Server 2012?
We're having a problem where we have about 300+ databases and now any new db's we add are timing out when it comes to setting up mirroring and am wondering if this is limited by the instance.

Database Mirroring Monitor Job Error
We have set up two SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition servers
with database mirroring. The mirrors function and fail over without a
problem, but the Database Mirroring Monitor Job fails every time with
the following error message:
Incorrect syntax near 'Virtual'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 102) Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'with'. If this statement is a common table expression or an xmlnamespaces clause<c/> the previous statement must be terminated with a semicolon. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 319). Both SQL Servers are running SP2 with the latest patches.
Does any one have any idea about this error?

Hello,
I have set up 3 servers - Primary, Mirror and Witness. When I run the database mirroring wizard all my endpoints are configured, but when i start the mirroring service i get a 1418 error - in the logs in says -
Database Mirroring login attempt by user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.' failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. The login 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' does not have CONNECT permission on the endpoint. State 84.'. [CLIENT: 10.20.1.5]
I have looked through the BOL and can't find anything helpful. - I'm pretty new to SQL server, so any help is very much appreciated!

I have a database that is released as part of a thrid party product. I sent out an update but it failed at one of the customer sites because the objects were not fully quailified. The original statement work at all but one of the sites. The altered statement is what finally worked. The SQL Server instances are installation and configuration are controlled by our interface so all instances are installed and configured the same. Any idea on how this would happen? It has never happened on previous updates.
Original Statement:
SELECT * FROM tblProcesses WHERE ProcessName='Name'

Got windows Vista Business edition, installed Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server 2005 Express SP2, SQL Server Management Studio SP1 in that order. I was developing in VWD express without problems using WinXP but now on Vista Business, the local connection to SQL server appears to be a problem.
I know there's nothing wrong with my web.config or anything like that as it was working perfectly prior to running under Vista. If i specify the database on the live website, it works fine. If I specify the test database in app_data folder, I get the following exception:-

I am taking a guess it's somerthing to do with access issues, but can't find anything out on searching the forums etc..
I am setup as an administrator, running VWD as an administrator and for the record, SQL Server Management Studio express works fine.
Another small issue, when I run the application from VWD, I always have to minimise the application and restore it as the graphics get corrupt.
Please help!! I cannot debug when running of the live website.

As a starter i tried to modify and translate the Personal Website Starters kit from the VS2005Team SDK.
When i'm working on the machine were it's installed , under debugging, all works great.
But when i try to develop from my laptop, via RDP on the develop machine, i've got this message and can not debug (connect to the SQLxpres Server)

my web app was working fine but as soon as i added in a page and few store procedures and 2 tables it just pop up with that error message.

i did go into the folder C:Documents and SettingsdnguyenLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server Datasqlexpress and delete the directory but this didnt help much. I still get the same error message. please help

Hello everyone,
I am new in .NET development and currently trying to learn VWB through Microsoft online tutorials.
Here is the problem that prevents me from getting further:
in VWB, when you right click App_Data and chose "Add New Item" and then select SQL database, the following error message is displayed:
"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed."
If I cancel out of it, it does generate mdf file under App_Data folder in Solution Explorer, but when I try to open it, it says:
"The item does not exist in the Web directory. t may have been moved, renamed or deleted." and that is where the whole sharade deadends.
I can connect via mycomputersqlexpress under Data Connections in Database Explorer (it then adds "master.dbo" to the path) and then create custom tables, but that is not the same, isn't it? I mean, this will not integrate my database tables through default configuration that I am trying to follow?
All this happens on local machine.

I was able to do do this before until Saturady when I had to re-install sql server, and express etc due to some system problem on my xp Pro PC. What have I misconfigured?
I do see the service SQL Serer(SQLEXPRESS) started under Network Service and SQL Serfver(MSSQLSERVER) started under local system.
My power user ID does have modify access to the sql 90 database folders. and to the mdf.

No wonder Microsoft is giving it away for free. It€™s not worth anything. I am very disappointed in this version of SQL server. I decided to start learning VB so I downloaded and installed VB 2005 express edition and SQL 2005 express. I tried to build a personal website using the starter kit. I kept getting the following error message, for which I have seen numerous postings on this forum.
€œFailed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.€?
I went out and bought the Standard version of VS 2005 thinking there may be a feature that the free express version is lacking. I uninstalled the express version, cleaned the registry, deleted all the folders it created and installed the Standard edition. Then I tried to create a personal web using the starter kit and it does the same thing again.
I can not create a database file, connect to a database file. I can not create or attach a database on the SQL 2005 express from VS 2005. The SQL server Express seems to be working OK since I can attach to it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. There is something about the way VS tries to connect to the database server that is not working. VB does recognize the local computer as a SQL server but can not connect to it.
SQL server is set to accept Shared memory, TCP/IP and named pipes for local clients.
What is causing this?

I have an ASP.Net web application running in groupnamewebservername. I am trying to connect it to the remote database server groupnamedatabaseservername using the ASPNET user id. The remote database is SQL Server 2005 and the web server has IIS 6.0 installed. My web.config connection entry has username as "groupnamewebservernameaspnet" and I have a database user in remote database server under the login name groupnamewebservername$. When I try to connect, I keep getting the following error:

This has worked fine for weeks, and months.
I'm running Vista Ultimate. SQL 2005 is set as my Default instance, and SQL2000 is set as (local)SQL2000.
Today, actually half way through today, I restarted my computer after installing Photoshop Updates.
Upon getting my computer back up and running, I cannot access SQL2000 from any website on my computer, nor can I access it from SQL2005 Management Stdio. I CAN access it from Enterprise Manager (SQL2000 tool).
Whenever I run an web app that connects to it I get this error:

I am attempting something that I have done many times before; however, in this instance it continues to fail.
I am trying to connect Management Studio to an instance of SQL Server 2005 Express over a VPN. The Management Studio connect dialog always fails with Error 26.
I have:
Enabled the instance for remote connections €“ both TCP/IP and Named Pipes
Ensured that the instance is enabled for TCP/IP on the VPN address (10.2.1.1) and on port 1433
Ensured that the instance is running
Ensured that SQL Browser is running
Ensured that ports 1433 (TCP) and 1434 (UDP) are open on the firewall for inbound traffic
Rebooted the server following this configuration to ensure that the instance services are refreshed
Tried to connect from three separate clients (albeit on the same remote network)
Disabled the firewall to ensure no further complications (as a last resort)
I have this exact same setup functioning on a separate server.
There is an additional backstory to this problem; however, I will not complicate the scenario with it now. If you feel you can help then I can elaborate further on the server€™s history.

Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). We have 3x instances of SQL Server 2012 installed on a single remote server - there's the default MSSQLSERVER instance, then INSTANCE01 and INSTANCE02. I can remotely connect to the default MSSQLSERVER instance through SSMS, but I cannot connect to either of the additional named instances (INSTANCE01 or INSTANCE02).Â
For example, if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com", I can successfully access the default instance on the remote server. If I try to connect to "sql.domain.comINSTANCE01", I get an error stating
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server".
However - if I try to connect to "sql.domain.comINSTANCE01, 49301" (where 49301 is the TCP Port for the TCP/IP Protocol for this SQL Server instance), I am able to successfully connect.
This leads me to think that there's a communication issue with the SQL Server Browser service running on the remote SQL Server and my workstation.Â
The following items have been verified:
SQL Server Browser is running on the remote SQL ServerWindows Firewall has been disabled on the SQL ServerTCP Ports 1433, 1434, 1954, and 49301 have been opened up on the remote destination's firewallUDP Port 1434 has been opened up on the remote destination's firewall.

I was looking to use Profiles in a VS 2008 web application. I added the necessary code to the web.config file. I started the app no problem. I created 1 Profile variable, restarted the app and was able to set and read the Profile variable named ServerIP. Saved the app and do not remember working on it all weekend. Tonight I try to run the app and I receive the following error message.
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.This occured at line:
set {this.SetPropertyValue("ServerIP", value);
}
Some reading suggest it may be a Security issue but I do not think that applies here. First because it ran once with out error. Secondly, I am logged in as Adminitrator. I was logged in as Administrator when I created the project.
Any one have any ideas how to correct this error?

I'm a newbie with Visual studio 2005 .Recently i installed it ,AFAIK sqlServer 2005
also is shiped with vs2005.after installing vs2005 i have the following entries in my
StartMenu/All Programms/
1) Microsoft Sql Server 2005
Configuration Tools
sql Server Configuration Manager
Sql Server Error and usage Reporting
SQL Server Surface Area Configuration
2) Microsoft Visual studio 2005
.....
........
Apparently there isn't any ENTERPRISE MANAGER and query analyzer.?
By the way in Visual studio IDE i noticed "Server Explorer" nexed to "Solution Explorer"
but i didn't find any Database entry or "Create New Database" or some thing like this.!!!
Could any one help me.? i want to Create Database, Tables,....

My understanding is restoring this database in the new instance, copying all logins to the new instance and then copying the jobs, DTS packages, alerts, operators only specific to this database will do it. Hello.
I am doing a proof of concept and part of the solution is to configure Common Live Server. However, I am running into problems and do not have that much experience in SQL Server 2005.
I have downloaded and installed the trial version and it seems to be running. I run the configuration manager and see the instance running. When I continue to configure my Live Communications Server - Creating an Enterprise Edition pool, it prompts me for the pool name, FQDN and Instance. I fill these fields in and it fails immediately. I think that I have not completely installed and configured SQL 05. Problem is, I don't know how to connect to the database as well. I found an sqlservr.exe in the MSSQL/Binn directory, but when I run that it pops up with a dialog saying that my installation may be corrupt. I have re-installed the thing again - but same thing happens.
Any clues/tips on how I should approach debugging this even resolving the problem.

I try to connect from a pc to a SQL Server on another pc. Both pc’s are in a workgroup. I want to connect from a Windows Forms application to a named instance on the other computer. By now I have been able to connect from one pc to SQL Server on the other with tcp:smurfin, 52782.
I want to be able to use servernameinstancename (instead of portnumber) to make a connection in a Windows Forms application.
I’ve checked / tried te following:
•In the properties of the instance, tab Connections, the option Allow Remote Connections is enabled
•In Configuration Manager: TCP is enabled
•The service SQL Server Browser is started
•On the tab IPAddresses, in the section IPAll, there is NO portnumber for TCP Port. And TCP Dynamic Ports has the nummer 52782
•I have created un inbound rule for port 52782 and also for 1434 (SQL Server Browser). And to be on the save side: a rule for 1433 as well.
•Restarted the service
If I run the following code in SQL Server, that same port number (52782) is returned:
EXEC xp_ReadErrorLog 0, 1, N'Server is listening on', N'any', NULL, NULL, 'DESC'
GO
SELECT local_tcp_port
FROM sys.dm_exec_connections
WHERE session_id = @@SPID

I use VS2005 & sql2005express to create a website, but it cannot to display data.
When I run it, I got such errors:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
My web.config file:
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf"/>
When I change the User Instance=True to False, it works, but MSDN says it is not safe.
I searched the past threads, which writes "delete the folder C:Documents and SettingsyyLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftSqlserver Data, it will work".
I try, but failed. What should I do??
