Compatiblity Level In SQL 2005

Aug 6, 2007

What does are the rammifications in SQL 2005 of setting the compatibility level for a database to a lower level, for example SQL 2000 (80)?

Does this affect the underlying datastructure, the stored files on the server, or the indexes?

What effect does changing the compatibility level have? Does changing it cause the server to have to do any work to the indexs or table?

TIA!

Sp_prepexec And Compatiblity Mode 7: Float Variables Comparing To String Field Fails

Jul 20, 2005

I have a statement that works in compatibility mode 8 of SQL Server2000 while it fails in 7:declare @P3 intexec sp_prepexec @P3 output, N'@P1 float', N'select custname fromcustomer where custnr = @P1', 12600034custnr is a varchar(15). As long as the float p1 is less than1,000,000 the query returns correct results, but as soon as p1 isequal or greater than 1,000,000 the resultset is empty. I couldfigure, that above 1 million, sp_exec converts the float intoexponential format and compares this format to the string containingfixed format values. As said above, in mode 8 the statement returnscorrect results above 1,000,000.Please don't ask me, why we use float variables - I don't have anyinfluence on the statement - we isolated the statement with theprofiler. We are also currently dependent on the compatibility mode 7.I would be very grateful if you have any ideas, help or other issuesfor me.Thank you,Peter

say col_1,col_2,col_3,col_4.
so firstly i wud bulk insert from a text file wich mite contain thousands of rows.
then from this temp table col_1 and col_2 shd go to master_a.wich has an identiy column as primary key.
say id,col_1, col_2.

i will have another table detail_b where in there is a foreign key to the table master_a for id.
so it will have f_id, col_3,col_4.

so i am riting a trigger on master_a. so whenver row is inserted in master_a. coresponding id and col 3 col4 shd be inserted into detail_b.

For this in oracle we have row level trigger. where in for each insertion in master a .. correspoding trigger will fire but in sql 2000..

SQL 2005 Upgrade With Compatibility Level 80

Nov 30, 2007

Hi All,

We have upgraded our database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 keeping the compatibility level 80.
Now the question is -
Would microsoft support compatibility level 80 in SQL Server 2005 even after the extended support date for SQL Server 2000?

OR

If Microsoft dropped the support for SQL 2000, then would Microsoft support compatibility level 80 in SQL Server 2005?

Thanks

Features Not Supported In Compatibility Level 80 Of SQL Server 2005

Oct 23, 2007

Hello All,
I am in the process of upgrading my current database in SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. I have finished my analysis using the upgrade advisor and have found a lot of SPs having upgrade related issues. From what I estimate I think it will take around 3-4 weeks to resolve all of those issues. I wanted a quicker way to upgrade my database since we have very little time for the final release. The main reason for upgrade to 2005 was use of new features like Database Mirroring and/or peer to peer replication alongwith the Partitioning features and the new T-SQL enhancements.

The question I wanted to ask was does the compatibility level 80 of SQL Server 2005 supports these new features.
From what I have read on the KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822400 is that mirroring is supported in any compatibility level, but there is no specific mention on the peer to peer thing.
Also when I personally tried using the New Partitioning Features of 2005 on the database having compatibility 80, it worked fine. Also other features like SQLCLR and TRY...CATCH works fine.
One thing I observed was that new T-SQL statements like PIVOT/UNPIVOT is not supported

It will be nice if someone can give out the entire list of features that will be supported in the compatibility Level 80 and also the list of the ones that are not supported.

Thanks in Advance,
Mitesh

But some of the stored procedures built in 2000 are not working directly in 2005, set the compatibility level to 80 could make them work. In this case, can somebody here tell me if down grade the database level will affect failover clustering running properly? e.g. will data still be synchronized properly? Thanks in advance.

Transferring MS Access Tables To SQL Server 2005: PRODUCT LEVEL TOO LOW Error

Jun 27, 2007

Hi,

I am using MS Access 2003 SP2 to maintain some data tables. I use SSIS to transfer them to SQL Server 2005, Enterprise Edition.

When I run the SSIS package from within Visual Studio 2005, the package runs without error.

When I try to run the same SSIS package by double-clicking on it in my File System (which invokes the Execute Package Utility, Version: 1.0) none of the tables get copied. Instead all I receive is a message for each table,

Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for component "Data Conversion 1" (49).

The only data conversion I perform is double-byte characters to single-byte characters.

Bob Bojanic, MSFT, made a few suggestions about this in another thread -- but I have created this new thread to help focus on this specific issue. In particular, he asked if we have installed the complete SSIS support for SQL Server 2005, Enterprise Edition, and my network support and database support staff assure me that such complete SSIS support was installed.

Are others having this problem?

Dan

(I just took a look at some of the transformations in the Data Conversion task, and many of them are using an Output Alias identical to the Input Column name. Might that be causing the problem? I will try changing the Output Alias for some tables and see if they then transfer correctly. The "identical name" Output Alias values were created by the Migration Wizard for a DTS 2000 package.)

SQL Server 2005 Incorrectly Claims I Don't Meet Minimum Service Pack Level Requirements?

Feb 10, 2006

This doesn't make any sense. I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 on SBS 2003 with Service Pack 1. According to Windows Update, there is nothing left for me to install. However, I am getting this error (while installing SQL Server Express and the Developer Edition):

"Your operating system does not meet Service Pack level requirements for this SQL Server release. Install the Service Pack from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380, and then run SQL Server setup again."

When I go to the link, there is nothing there to download (it takes me to the main Microsoft download page). I meet all the requirements that I have found. What gives?

SQL 2005 - .Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0 - Error Parsing Statements

Nov 2, 2006

Hi,

Does anyone else have this error message pop up in SSMS when you try to parse sql statements:

.Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

There was a thread back in March 2006 that mentioned this error, but the posted resolution was to install SP1.  I have SP1 installed but I still get the error.

I only receive the error when I'm parsing statements, if I run the statement it's fine.

Thanks

Transactions = Table Level Or Row Level ?

Nov 29, 2006

When you utilize transactions in ADO.NET are the locks put on the entire TABLE used or at the row level?
For instance if you do a SELECT within a transaction if you only pull 5 rows out of a 1000 row table can you just make it lock the rows that have been pulled?  It seems like it locks the entire table?

SSIS - Migrating Mainframe Data To SQL 2005 Only Mainframe Group Level Exposed

Apr 25, 2007

In using SSIS to migrate data from mainframe to SQL 2005, I had a situation where only group level data was exposed through the ODBC to SSIS, so I pulled this information as varchar on the SQL destination side. Now I would like to break that group into the individual numeric columns I need on SQL Server. However, the positive and negative sign did not convert because it came of character. I can write something to convert the positive signs to positive numbers; however I cannot do the negative because I would need get rid of the leading zeros in order to place the negative sign before the number. Is there anything I could have done to get SSIS to do the conversion like it did for every one-to-one mapping?

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server. - After Installing New Instance Of SQL Server 2005 W/NO App Changes

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking.  The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end.  This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions.   So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. Analysis :: Calculate Members At Certain Level In One Hierarchy As Sum Of Corresponding Members At A Certain Level

Jun 4, 2015

Problem setting is a geography dimension with multiple user defined hierarchies in SSAS 2008.

Ex.:
Hierarchy 1 (political territory): level 6 --> level 5 --> level 4 --> level 3 (state) --> level 2 --> level 1
Hierarchy 2 (sales territory): level 4 --> level 3 --> level 2 (sales region) --> level 1
...
Hierarchy 9

The relationship between state and sales region is n:1, i.e. one state belongs to exactly one sales region, and one sales region can consists of one or multiple states.  Unfortunatly I can't define this attribute relationsship in the dimension because it would lead to a diamond-shaped relationsship without a user-defined-hierarchy to back it up. So far that isn't much of a problem, user don't drill down from sales region to state. But now I want to define a calculated member that multiplies a measure from the main measure group with another measure from a weighting factor measure group at the state level and above. The granularity attribute of the geography dimension in the dimension usage tab of the weighting factor measuregroup is the state.

So far what I've got is:

CREATE MEMBER Currentcube.Measures.[weighted measure state and above] AS NULL;
SCOPE (Measures.[weighted measure state and above],
Descendants(geography.[political territory].[all member],3,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
Descendants(geography.[salesterritory].[all member],2,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
... Descendants(geography.[hierarchy 9].[all member],1,SELF_AND_BEFORE)); this = sum(existing(geography.[political territory].state.members), measures.[main measure group measure] * measures.[weighting measure group measure]);END SCOPE;

This works from a functional point of view, but is rather slow when querying any other hierarchy than the political territory hierarchy, because SSAS first goes down from the state level to the key attribute of the geography dimension, and then aggregates from there to the sales region. In other words, I want SSAS to resolve the relationsship (which state belongs to which sales region) through the dimension, and not through the fact, and apply the calculation afterwards. Like some kind of currency conversion, but only from a certain level upwards.

The SSE Provider Did Not Find The Database File Specified In The Connection String. At The Configured Trust Level (below High Trust Level), The SSE Provider Can Not Automatically Create The Database File.

Aug 31, 2007

The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website   and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration.  So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do?  It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost".  So that is the first problem.  So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box).  How ever when I try to get someone to try to login  I am taken to a page that has an server error.  The error is:
"The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. "
The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom.  I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer.  On my computer I have MSSQL express.  So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder).  So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database.  Is this the correct methodology?   Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server?   The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient.  I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files.  So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also?  So that I don't have to use MSSQL?  My server only allows 1 DataBase for that.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense.  It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online?
