Concat With A Loop - Convert Number Into String Character
Apr 5, 2014
I'm new to SQL and I've been trying this for a while now.
I have let's say a loop of numbers from one to ten. It appears like this:
1
2
3
4
5
What I want to do is to have it appear on one column like this: 12345, the problem is I can't seem to figure out if I need to only have one variable or I'm missing something else, I figured you need to convert them into a string character but I'm still unable to do it.
Dear Experts,Ok, I hate to ask such a seemingly dumb question, but I'vealready spent far too much time on this. More that Iwould care to admit. In Sql server, how do I simply change a character into a number??????In Oracle, it is:select to_number(20.55)from dualTO_NUMBER(20.55)----------------20.55And we are on with our lives. In sql server, using the Northwinds database:SELECTr.regionid,STR(r.regionid,7,2) as a_string,CONVERT(numeric, STR(r.regionid,7,2)) as a_number,cast ( STR(r.regionid) as int ) as cast_to_numberFROM REGION R1 1.00112 2.00223 3.00334 4.0044SELECTr.regionid,STR(r.regionid,7,2) as a_string,CONVERT(numeric, STR(r.regionid,7,2) ) as a_number,cast (STR(r.regionid,7,2) as numeric ) as cast_to_numberFROM REGION R1 1.00112 2.00223 3.00334 4.0044Str converts from number to string in one motion.Isn't there a simple function in Sql Server to convertfrom string to number? What is the secret? Thanks
I am trying to create a report that sums up new cases weekly based on the previous 5 months. I have included some sample data below. The only field that displays a date is called monthSubmitted, varchar 7 and not very useful. How can I first convert this firld to a date ddmmyy?
How would you the code it so the user can run the report on demand at any given time and display the data for the last 5 months on a weekly basis? I am not sure as to how the date calculations should be coded.
For the above string, which string function can be used to find the number of occurences of a particular character, for example, ','? For this example, the answer should be 4. Is there any built-in function in SQL to do this?
I am trying to concat an int with an nvarchar in my select:
select distinct(id + name) from load where name not like '%test%'
but I am getting an error saying: Server: Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '灪愭楮敭' to a column of data type int.
My question is: how do you concat int and string in MS SQL Server. The equivalent in Oracle would be ||, I think.
I have a string let's say: "123". I want to convert it to: -- Start SqlServer BEGIN {CALL DBA.applsp_ChangeComments( 'ArtPurchPriceUpdate', 'TRIGGER', 'nl', 'ArtPurchPriceUpdate', '1' + CHAR(13)+ CHAR(10) + '2' + CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) + 3' )} END; -- End SqlServer
This works well for oracle and sybase, for sqlserver I can't concatenate in a parameter of a stored procedure. I really want to do this. To create a variable is a lot of extra programming. Is there anyone who knows how to cancat these strings within the stored procedure call?
SELECT dbo.T1.t1_id, dbo.CONCAT(dbo.T2.product) AS product FROM dbo.T1 INNER JOIN dbo.T2 ON dbo.T1.t1_id = dbo.T2.t1_id GROUP BY dbo.T1.t1_id
but following error is be shown. why? Msg 4121, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.CONCAT", or the name is ambiguous.
I am trying to insert a row into a table of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
There are various columns.
[SNO] [numeric](3, 0) NOT NULL , [DATT] [char] (32) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL , [DATTA] [char] (3000) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL , [CODECS] [char] (32) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ,
The [DATTA] column is causing a problem. Even if I am trying to put only 1700 character string into [DATTA], the java code throws the following exception:-
StaleConnecti A CONM7007I: Mapping the following SQLException, with ErrorCode 0 and SQLState 08S01, to a StaleConnectionException: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Connection reset
at com.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseExceptions.createException(Unknown Source)
Why is it throwing an exception even though the sum-total of this row doesn't exceed 8000 characters?
I have column as month and value as January, february. etcc....
can we convert this character column into date&time format.. if we do that what will be output..
I am doing test instance, when i sort by month column it's sorted in alphabetical order. when we convert this into date&time, it's sorts by date&time, it puts me right direction..
I am loading a flat file to a table but I also need to scrub the data a bit before the data hits the table. The main update required is converting a dot (.) character to a null value. The source file is using this character to indicate a blank. I know I can use the Dervived Column Transformation, but I have quite a few columns which will take a while to manually configure. Is there another transformation option that anyone can point me to?
I am getting a date string that is contained in a character field (char(20)).
An example of the data is as follows:
2005-09-20121315001
it is in the format YYYY-MM-DDHHMMSSMMM.
I want to insert this value into a datetime field. I have used convert, but can only insert it when I split out the time portion and separate them with a colon
i.e. to get it to insert into a datetime field the data has to be in the following format
2005-09-20 13:15:18.001
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.MMM
Is there a style parameter in the convert function that will allow me to insert this value without having to separate the hours/minutes/seconds with a colon? I have tried BOL but it seems that all the examples have colons in them where there is a time portion to the date,
Hi All there - I want to show the o/p of a cursor on a single line. There is a numeric variable that needs to be clubed with the character variable. If I use char() the o/p is not right. How do I do that?
I have a text field which has entries of variable length of the form:
"house:app.apx&resultid=1234,clientip" or "tost:app.apx&resultid=123,clientip" or "airplane:app.apx&resultid=123489,clientip"
I'm trying to pick out the numbers between resultid='...',clientip no matter what the rest of the string looks like. So in this example it would be the numbers:
1234 123 12389
the part of the string of the form resultid='...',clientip always stays the same except the length of the number can vary.
I am currently doing a mapping from text file to sql table. there is one column in the text file that contain more than 15,000 characters in it. it causes me an error because i was using varchar data type, in which i believe can only store 8000 char. can anybody tell me which data type to use? and also, will i be able to change the data type in the input column also? if yes, which data type should i change it to?
I am new to SQL Server (coming from Oracle background) and have a large table I need to loop thru and assign a number 1 thru 5 on each record.
below is an example of how I would do it in Oracle.
declare num number := 1; cursor c_rec is SELECT rowid, t.* FROM temp t order by t.column; begin for d_rec in c_rec loop update temp set column = to_char(num)
Need getting the below Cursor query convert to a Recursive CTE or with a while loop as I do not want to use a cursor.
Declare @Companyname Nvarchar (400) declare @str nvarchar(MAX) TRUNCATE TABLE STAGING.dbo.[IT_G_L Entry] DECLARE GLEntry_cursor CURSOR FOR SELECT REPLACE Name FROM Company where Name <> 'AAAAA' OPEN GlEntry_cursor
I want to read a String - character by character.I mean If the string is 'SAMPLE' then I want to go to each and every character in it 'S','A','M','P','L','E' to compare with another string for equality. I hope I am clear. Is there a way that I can read it?
