I want to write a insert statement but before insert statement run i need to check a condition like if the same record is already existing or not ? how do i do this using transact -SQL
I mean i have a table call Employee like this definition

Ok Before i insert a new record , i need to check if a emplyee name call ="John E Mathew" already in the table or not if Employee Name call ='John E Mathew' not exisits only it should execute my insert statement .
I know how to query up duplicate records, here is what I am using to do so:

when the duplicates arise, I expect them to have unique CallResultCode values, and I would like to make a priority of which value stays and which one gets dumped, keep in mind that I am a SQL noob.
I wanted to update Catrgory coulmn of all records in the Master table with the Value of LastUpdate of the CategoryTable the where the ID of the both the table are same
Here we need consider patient dates that fall between sdate and edate of the patientrefs table, and then we need to consider the highest status values in order (for example, the highest values in order - 2 is first highest, 4 is second highest, 3 is third highest, and 1 is fourth highest value)
If the date falls between multiple different sdate and edate with the same status values, then we need to consider the latest sdate value and from that entire record we need to extract that value.
Here, pn=2 values have dates which fall between sdate and edate of patientref table. Then we give highest values status is 2, and status 2 values have two records, then we go for max sdate(latest sdate). Then this pn=2 latest sdates is 2015-02-10 and we need to retrieve the corresponding edate and status values.

but this query not given expected result.here when dos not fall between sdate and edate that records not given in the above query. I required that records also.if not fall b/w condition then we need retrive that records empty values for that records.
Could you please give me any advices on how to filter out the records through out the data flow by any particular condition? E.g. In my case, I want to filter out rows with null id (will get rid of those rows with null id which are not matched in the look up component)? I need to understand how to INSERT a record from one table to another only when a condition is meet between the two tables. Example...NewTable has new employees on it that are not on the current EmployeeTable. So, when NewTable.EmployeeNo does not match a EmployeeTable.EmployeeNo then I want to INSERT.

I would like to make a marketing list for all customers that purchased Gin or Scotch but exclude customers that purchased Vodka. The result I am looking for would return only 2 records: Cid’s 1 (Alex) and 3 (Carrie) but not 2 (because Bob bought Vodka).
I know how to make a SELECT DISTINCT statement but as soon as I include Pid=2 This clearly doesn’t work :

I have around 3 tables having around 20 to 30gb of data. My table A related to table B by a FK and same way table B related to table C by FK. I would like to delete all rows satisfying certain condition from table A and all corresponding related records from table B and C. I have created a query to delete the grandchild first, followed by child table and finally parent. I have used inner join in my delete query. As you all know, inner join delete operations, are going to be extremely resource Intensive especially on bigger tables.
What is the best approach to delete all these rows? There are many constraints, triggers on these tables. Also, there might be some FK relations to other tables as well.
I am currently in the process of writing an INSERT/UPDATE trigger in SQL 2012, the scenario is, I have a table called Quote, what I want to happen is when a record gets added to the table with a field called Approved, populated with a value or a record gets Updated and the Approved field gets populated I want the trigger to execute a stored procedure, passing through a value from a field called Account within the Quote table as a variable. I have been trying to solve the locking problem from past couple of days. Please help mee!!
Scenario: -------------- I have a SSIS package in which 2 data flow tasks. 1st data flow task deletes records from a 5 tables and the 2nd data flow task should insert records into 1 of the five tables after the success of 1st data flow task. This scenario runs in Transacation.
The above scenrio in the 2nd data flow task hangs in runtime. It does not complete. with sp_who2 command i could see that there is an intent share lock(LK_M_IS) on the table and the status is SUSPENDED.
I dont know how to come out of this locking. Please help.
Every Employee should be in Department 2 and 3 (as example EmpID = 17 has DepID 2 and 3 from above table). But when any of the employees either exists only in any one department (as EmpID = 12 has only DepID = 2), then a new row should be added to the table for that employee with that missing DepID.
Can someone give me a clue on this. I'm trying to insert values based off of values in another table.
I'm comparing wether two id's (non keys in the db) are the same in two fields (that is the where statement. Based on that I'm inserting into the Results table in the PledgeLastYr collumn a 'Y' (thats what I want to do -- to indicate that they have pledged over the last year).
Two questions
1. As this is set up right now I'm getting NULL values inserted into the PledgeLastYr collumn. I'm sure this is a stupid syntax problem that i'm overlooking but if someone can give me a hint that would be great.
2. How would I go about writing an If / Else statement in T-SQL so that I can have the Insert statement for both the Yes they have pledged and No they have not pledged all in one stored proc. I'm not to familar with the syntax of writing conditional statements within T-SQL as of yet, and if someone can give me some hints on how to do that it would be greatly appriciated.

On my site users can register using ASP Membership Create user Wizard control. I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to. it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2. I've have a need with SQL Server 2005 (so I've no MERGE statement), I have to merge 2 tables, the target table has 10 fields, the first 4 are the clustered index and primary key, the source table has the same fields and index.Since I can't use the MERGE statement (I'm in SQL 2005) I have to make a double step operation, and INSERT and an UPDATE, I can't figure how to design the WHERE condition for the insert statement.

I am currently working on a simple page to insert 1.6 million UK postcode records into an SQL server table. The table has three columns for the postcode, longditude coordinate and lattitude coordinate. The data is sourced from a pipe (|) delimited txt file and inserted into the database using a FOR loop. The problem I have is that the page will hang after inserting only 10,000 records, the page displays either an invalid View State error or a page cannot be found error. Now I assume the viewstate error stems from the fact that there is a form on the page which simply contains a button to execute the script and a few labels to show the progress. But without the form and associated viewstate the insert still fails to complete.... any ideas?? Would I be better running this on a thread or should I just do it in stages and be patient. I have now modified the page to read the database on load and pick up from where it crashes?
Once again - My table should consist of 100 new records for a field MobilePhone(of char type) and last 5 digits should be randomly choosed (should be like this: +381randomno1randomno2.. etc.(example: +38156465, where '+' sign makes it char type and digits after +381 are randomly choosed. :confused: Anyone knows how to solve this....PLEASE?

The Company i work for make coils of shaped wire and work a 6 - 6 shift pattern
I have a database that is updated from a data collection source (MS Access) at 06:00 every morning. This seems to be working ok, my problem is that most coils fit nicely into the 6 - 6 shift pattern, but some now and again drift over into the next shift. I have written a crystal report that picks up this data. at the moment the coils are put in the database as: [Coil Start Time], [Coil Finish Time], [Coil Start Weight], [Coil Finish Weight], etc.
I have written (been helped to write) a SQL statement that will do the following:
Step 1: If the Coil Finish time is greater than the shift end time, then set the shit end time to be coil end time and zero start and finish wheight. Step 2: The original Coil record is duplicated and Coil Start time set to start time of shift, all other data left alone.

I have 2 options now
option 1: Leave this as a SQL View and report from this
option 2: Insert updated records to the tblCoilData table so that the data in the table is permanent
I would prefer option 2 but am a bit of a nugget when it comes to writing update / insert statements, Could someone please help me with this
