Conditional Records Insertion In SQL 7.0 Tables

Aug 5, 2000

Dear All,

I am having a problem in adding new records in SQL 7.0 Database.
I have two databases - one with table name DB1..WTEST and the other with
table name DB2..TEST. I want to update records in DB2..TEST table when
records are already in TEST table (by comparing primary key - with ignore
duplicate option) & secondly, INSERT records in DB2..TEST table from
DB1..WTEST table if the records do not exist in DB2..TEST table. The first
option which is Updation, works fine but with second option I have problem.
It works and records are INSERTED but I don't know the statistics of
inserted records. Instead it gives a warning message - Duplicate records
were Ignored -

Can somebody help me out or suggest some better solution for conditional
record insertion. I used CURSOR option but it is only for Updation &
Deletion.

Here is my Transact-SQL Script.

--------------------------------------------------------------

IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM DB1..WTEST
INNER JOIN DB2..TEST
ON DB1..WTEST.Name1 = DB2..TEST.Name1)
BEGIN
UPDATE DB1..TEST
SET add1 = DB1..WTEST.Add1
FROM DB1..WTEST
Print 'Updated'
END

WHILE NOT EXISTS(SELECT * FROM DB1..WTEST
INNER JOIN DB2..TEST
ON DB1..WTEST.Name1 = DB2..TEST.Name1)
BEGIN
INSERT DB2..TEST
SELECT DB1..WTEST.Name1,
DB1..WTEST.Add1
FROM DB1..WTEST
CONTINUE
END

------------------ Alternate Script ---------------------
IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM DB1..WTEST, DB2..TEST
WHERE DB1..WTEST.Name1 = DB2..TEST.Name1)
BEGIN
UPDATE DB2..TEST
SET add1 = DB1..WTEST.Add1
FROM DB1..WTEST
WHERE DB1..WTEST.Name1 = DB2..TEST.Name1
END

INSERT DB2..TEST
SELECT DB1..WTEST.Name1,
DB1..WTEST.Add1
FROM DB1..WTEST
WHERE NOT EXISTS(SELECT * FROM DB2..TEST
WHERE DB1..WTEST.Name1 =
DB2..TEST.Name1)
END

Select Records By Order Of Insertion???

Jan 3, 2008

I need to create a temp table with an identity column based on the contents of a physical table (CONTACTS) that has no key or unique way to identify which record was inserted first,

I can query CONTACTS with no ORDER clause and everything is in the order it was inserted. However, when I create the temp table with a newid() as ID or IDENTITY(1,1) as ID, the duplicate rows as they existsed in the physical table are not inserted into the temp table in the same order.

Is it possible to select records from a physical table into a temp table in the same order while creating a unique field?

Here is how they exist in the physical table:

CLIENTID CHANGEDATE NEWVALUE

------------ ----------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------

C0HTRA200005 2007-11-19 21:11:57.000 NULL

C0HTRA200005 2007-11-19 21:11:57.000 NULL

C0HTRA200005 2007-11-22 07:47:56.000 Acquisition

Here is how they exist after being inserted into the temp table using DISTINCT:

ID CLIENTID CHANGEDATE NEWVALUE

----------- ------------ ----------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------

15 C0HTRA200005 2007-11-19 21:07:20.000 NULL

16 C0HTRA200005 2007-11-19 21:10:52.000 NULL

19 C0HTRA200005 2007-11-21 06:46:17.000 Acquisition

20 C0HTRA200005 2007-11-22 07:47:56.000 Acquisition

I've tried this many different ways using variations of ORDER BY/ no ORDER BY.
I've tried creating the temp table first with the IDENTITY field, then insert into it.
I've also tried SELECT INTO syntax while creating the IDENTITY field with the select. I've done this with newid() as well.

Any ideas would be huge.

Thanks much.

Validating The Insertion Of A Record Into Database Against Existing Records.

Hello. I currently have a website that allows appointments to be booked up for doctors. i currently have an insert record page built using ASP components. Insertion And Deletion Of Records Inside A Single Stored Procedure

Mar 25, 2008

Hi,
I have two tables A and B. In table A i have three columns called empid, empname and empsalary where empid is an identity column. Table A has some records filled in it. Table B has the same schema except the fact that the empid is not an identity column in table B. Table B does not contain any rows initially. All other aspects remain the same as that of table A. Now i am going to delete some records in table A based on the empid. When i delete the records in table A based on empid the deleted records should be inserted into table B with the same empid. I need to accomplish these two tasks in a single stored procedure. How to do it? I need the entire code for the stored procedure. Please help me. I am trying for the past 4 days.
 Thanx in Advance

ADO - Connection::Execute() Returning Zero Records Affected After Successful Insertion Of Data In SQL Server 2005

Apr 11, 2008

Hello,

For the following ADO Connection::Execute() function the "recAffected" is zero, after a successful insertion of data, in SQL Server 2005. In SQL Server Express I am getting the the number of records affected value correctly.

_variant_t recAffected;
connectionObject->Execute(SQL, &recAffected, adCmdText );

The SQL string is

BEGIN
DELETE FROM MyTable WHERE Column_1 IN ('abc', 'def' )
END
BEGIN
INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 )
SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12'
UNION ALL
SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22'
END

But see this, for SQL Server 2005 "recAffected" has the correct value of 2 when I have just the insert statement.

INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 )
SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12'
UNION ALL
SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22'

For SQL Server 2005 in both cases the table got successfully inserted two rows and the HRESULT of Execute() function returns S_OK.

Does the Execute function has any problem with a statement like the first one (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB?

Why the "recAffected" has a value zero for the first SQL (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB? Do I need to pass any options to Execute() function for a SQL Server 2005 DB?

When connecting to SQL Server Express the "recAffected" has the correct values for any type of SQL statements.

Thank you for your time. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kannan

This is the query that get the report data for my report. Now I need to replace the second column with an actual response like €˜accepted€™ and €˜rejected€™. And these values should be a result of evaluation of this form

Statusarray[] = ResponseStoredProcedure(table1.col1)

If(Statusarray.count < 1)
Set _response = €˜accepted€™
Else
Get Statusarray[1]
Compare this to Statusarray[0]
Set _response = some result based on comparision.

The _response returned in the query should return the actual response based on this evaluation where ResponseStoredProcedure is sent the current row value for table1.col1.

How can this be done in sql(using SQL Server 2005)

PLZZZ HELP!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Hari

SQL Server 2012 :: Conditional Join Between Two Tables

Oct 4, 2015

I have two tables tabA (cola1, cola2, cola3) and tabB(colb1, colb2, colb3, colb4) which I need to join on all 3 columns of table A.

Of the 3 columns in tabA, few can be NULL, in that case I want to check the joining condition for the rest of the columns, so its conditional joining. Let me rephrase what I am trying to acheive - I need to check if the columns in joining condition is NULL in my 1st table (tabA), If so I need to check the joining condition for the rest of the two columns, if 2nd column is again NULL, I need to check the joining condition on the third column.

What I am trying to do is as below. Its working, but is very slow when one of the tables is huge. Can I optimize it or rewrite in a better way ?

--- First Create two tables
Create table tabA
(cola1 nvarchar(100), cola2 nvarchar(100), cola3 nvarchar(100))
Insert into tabA values (NULL,'A1','A2')
Select * from tabA
create table tabB

[Code] .....

Conditional Case Calculations Multiple Tables?

Apr 20, 2014

I have 4 tables involved here. The priority table is TABLE1:

NAMEID TRANDATE TRANAMT RMPROPID TOTBAL
000001235 04/14/2014 335 A0A00 605
000001234 04/14/2014 243 A0A01 243
000001236 04/14/2014 425 A0A02 500

TRANAMT being the amount paid & TOTBAL being the balance due per the NAMEID & RMPROPID specified.

The other table includes a breakdown of the total balance, in a manner of speaking, by charge code (thru a SUM(OPENAMT) query of DISTINCT CHGCODE

TABLE2

NAMEID TRANDATE TRANAMT RMPROPID CHGCODE OPENAMT
000001234 04/01/2014 400 A0A01 ARC 0
000001234 04/05/2014 -142 A0A01 ARC 228
000001234 04/10/2014 15 A0A01 ALT 15
000001235 04/01/2014 400 A0A00 ARC 400
000001235 04/05/2014 50 A0A00 ALT 50
000001235 04/10/2014 105 A0A00 ACF 105
000001235 04/11/2014 50 A0A00 ADR 50
000001236 04/01/2014 500 A0A02 ARC 500

The other table stores the priority order of the charge codes

TABLE3

CHGCODE PRIORITY DESCRPTN
ACF 1 Court fee
ALT 2 Late fee
ANS 3 NSF fee
ARC 4 Rent
ADR 5 Repair
AUR 6 Utility

While the forth stores the customer data:

TABLE4

NAMEID RMPROPID FIRSTNAME LASTNAME NAMEGROUP
000001234 A0A01 Jane Doe 000001234
000001235 A0A00 John White 000001235
000001236 A0A02 John Smith 000001236
000001237 A0A02 Jennifer Smith 000001236

This table's importance comes by the inclusion of the NAMEGROUP. This way if an account has multiple NAMEIDs, it can be kept straight by their shared NAMEGROUP.

I am trying to create a report using queries that will:

A) calculate the sum of the OPENAMT per NAMEGROUP per DISTINCT CHGCODE B) count the number of records (DISTINCT CHGCODEs) per DISTINCT NAMEID in ORDER by the CHGCODE PRIORITY Then C) calculate a case query whereas:

CASE WHERE
TABLE1.TRANAMT=> the calculated sum of the highest priority CHGCODE THEN 'TABLE1.TRANAMT'
ELSE WHERE TABLE1.TRANAMT <= the calculated sum of the highest priority CHGCODE
THEN 'the calculated sum of the highest priority CHGCODE'
...then...
CASE WHERE

[Code] ....

The results should be something like:

NAMEID TRANDATE TRANAMT RMPROPID CHGCODE APPLAMT
000001235 04/14/2014 335 A0A00 ACF 105
000001235 04/14/2014 335 A0A00 ALT 15
000001235 04/14/2014 335 A0A00 ARC 215
000001234 04/14/2014 243 A0A01 ALT 15
000001234 04/14/2014 243 A0A01 ARC 228
000001236 04/14/2014 425 A0A02 ARC 425

Also with a remaining balance (per CHGCODE) column.I can't figure out how to word the queries.

Insert Records From Foxpro Tables To SQL Server Tables

Apr 22, 2004

Hi,

Currently, I'm using the following steps to migrate millions of records from Foxpro tables to SQL Server tables:

1. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then bcp to SQL Server tables in a dummy database. All the SQL tables have the same columns as the Foxpro tables.
2. Manipulate the data in the SQL tables of the dummy database and save the manipulated data into the SQL tables of the real database where the tables may have different structure from the corresponding Foxpro tables.

I only know the following ways to import Foxpro data into SQL Server:

#1. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then bcp to SQL Server tables
#2. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then Bulk Insert to SQL Server tables
#3. DTS Foxpro records directly to SQL Server tables

I'm thinking whether the following choices will be better than the current way:

1st choice: Change step 1 to use #2 instead of #1
2nd choice: Change step 1 to use #3 instead of #1
3rd choice: Use #3 plus manipulating in DTS to replace step 1 and step 2

Thank you for any suggestion.

Conditional Subscription / Conditional Execution Of Report

Mar 7, 2008

Hello everyone,

Is there a way in order to execute a subscribed report based on a certain criteria?

For example, let's say send a report to users when data exist on the report else if no data is returned by the query
executed by the report then it will not send the report to users.

My current situation here is that users tend to say that this should not happen, since no pertinent information is contained in the report, why would they receive email with blank data in it.

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

I report SQL Server table information (table names, field names, field datatypes, etc.) to my users using an ACCESS front end. Most of this information exists in the system tables. But I can't find a record count per table in the system tables. What's the fastest way to get a record count for all tables?

Need Help With Transfer Many Records Between Tables

Jan 27, 2008

Hi!
I have 2 tables (both have the same structure):
ID -> bigint (identity, not for replication, primary key)
Url -> nvarchar(1000)
MainUrl -> nvarchar(1000)

Tbl1 cantains about 0,5 mln records, and tbl2 - 1 mln.
What I need, is to copy records from tbl2 to tbl1. But records in tbl1 are unique, and it can't change. (Unique must be only "Url"; (and ID, but it's automatic)). How can I do this in fast way? Now I'm using SELECT for each record in tbl2 to see if it exist in tbl1. But it's a bit slow... Is there any faster method? (One thing: I'm beginner in databeses, so I'm wrote VB application to transfer records. How can I do it using only Microsoft Sql server?)
--------------
I'm forgot to write, I'm using MsSql 2005.

Outlying Records Between Two Tables

Nov 15, 2006

I have two tables that have a common column (ID). Now, what i am trying to do is find what is not in one table that is in the other.

For instance:

Table A
ID NAME
1 Tom
2 George
3 Richard

Table B
ID NAME
1 Tom
3 Richard
4 Kevin

With this information, I am trying to write a query that would tell me that Kevin is the only record that doesn't exist in both tables ... like an outlier.

I have tried using something like the following:

SELECT distinct id, name
FROM Table 1 INNER JOIN Table 2
ON Table 1.id <> Table 2.id

Any help would be great. Thanks!

SQL Select Records NOT In Both Tables

HiI'm using Access 2002. I have 2 tables tblGroupContact,tblGroupPermission, both have 2 fields identical structure:ContactID GroupID (Both are Composite keys and both hold integers)tblGroupContact holds everybody and the groups they are members of.tblGroupPermission holds only those people who have permission to makechanges to another part of the DB.The SQL at the end of post works, but opens a dialogue box looking fora parameter value 'query1.ContactID'Clicking enter or cancel (without entering anything) works OK.What have I done wrong to cause this parameter request.Thanks ColinKSELECT tblGroupContact.ContactID, tblGroupContact.GroupIDFROM tblGroupContact LEFT JOIN tblGroupPermission ON(tblGroupContact.ContactID = tblGroupPermission.ContactID) AND(tblGroupContact.GroupID = tblGroupPermission.GroupID)WHERE (((tblGroupPermission.ContactI*D) Is Null) AND((tblGroupPermission.GroupID) Is Null));

Count All Records In All Tables

Apr 13, 2006

I need some help with this. I was able to count all the records in ourdatabase using the user_tables and user_tab_columns tables afterrefreshing the statistics on this database. We are doing an upgrade of a system and I will not be able to refreshthe statistics during the upgrade. I need more of a manual process ofrunning these queries. Now I do:select A.table_name, round(A.num_rows,0) as rowcount,count(b.table_name) as ColumnCountfrom dba_tables A, dba_tab_columns Bwhere A.table_name = B.table_name and A.owner in ('PS','SYSADM')group by A.table_name, A.num_rowsorder by rowcount desc, columncount descBut I can't use the num_rows anymore so I was thinking more to do this:Select A.table_name from(select count(*) from A.Table_name B where A.Table_name =B.Table_Name)from user_tableThis does not work for me since I don't know how to pass the table_namefrom the first select to the second select. The logic is there but thesyntax is not. Please help.

Delete Same Records (same Pk) In Two Tables

Jan 8, 2008

Hello,

I have the following problem:

2 tables: both have the same pk values.

one table must be deleted based on a filter (I mean the table is not delete completely but only some records), I would like to delete same records in the second table.
for ex:
table 1: pk: 1,2,3,4,5
table 2: pk: 1,2,3,4,5
table 1: deleting 1,2, 3 thus also in table 2 pk: 1,2,3 must be deleted.
At the and of process Table1 and Table2 must have the same records (always also in the case of failure, errors and so on ).

The target is avoid using triggers.
OUTPUT is not useful because it writes what is deleted (or may be useful but how to use it?).

How can I do?

Thank
