Config File Path Not Being Updated In The Dtsx File While Deployment
Sep 21, 2006
Hello All,
I experienced a weird error while deploying my SSIS package. After running the manifest file, i noticed that one of the configuration file's path was not updated in the dtsx file. My solution has 8 packages and almost every package has 2 configuration files. Except 1 file every other config file's path is being updated. Has anybody experieced such a problem?
Thank you in advance for your help

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. Â My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.Â
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.

Hi all
This is the situation: I've a dtsx package wich creates a tab delimited txt file from a sql server 2005 databasetable. Now this all works just fine. But what I want to do is that the user can choose the destination path of that created txt-file. Right now I've declared the path when I created the flat file source.
On the net I found that a config file for a dts package (sql server 2000 - Dynamic Property Task) could do the trick...
Any help plz?
thx!

I am having an issue with the File System Task.
I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.
Currently, this is what I have:
FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank
For Each Loop Container €“ Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.
Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) €“ Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value = dts.Variables(€œUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value & €œ€? Month & €œ_€? & Day & €œ_€? & Year & €œ€?) which gives me €œC:TestFiles 9_14_2006€?.
File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) €“ This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.
Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that day€™s date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I can€™t hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the €œVariable €œFileNameAndLocation€? is used as a source or destination and is empty.€?
Let me know if I need to clarify further€¦...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an issue with a DTS package. We create a zip file and then attach it to emails going out using DTS. The problem is that the attachment, when received, is named using the full path to the file, so it is quite long.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way out of this?
I am considering mapping a drive to the share holding the file to be named, but the fact is this will shorten the name but will still result in the path being included.
I am wondering if this is a bug, as I suspect this isn't the default behaviour.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I cannot get the log file path read from the configuration.
If the path in the Connection Manager is invalid, package throws an error "SSIS logging provider has failed to open the log" instead of reading it from the config.file. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the portion of the config file. Everthing else is read from the config file correctly.
- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[SalesforceConnectLog].Properties[ConnectionString]" ValueType="String"> ConfiguredValue>D:APPSBACIARSalesforceConnectSalesforceConnect.log</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
Appreciate a help.

Hi,
I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :
OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
but it failed and i got the following message:
Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.
NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.
I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?

Ok, I'm actually adding a SSIS job to my job agent on my test SQL server. Noticed that when I go to my job agent --> add new job, under the steps option, I click new. this then takes me to the new job step window. When I select
Type as SQL Server Integrated Services, I then see some new tabs at the bottom of the form. Under package source I can select File System, SQL Server, or SSIS Package Store, then I have to select the location of the dtsx file.
So my question is, since I can select the actual file (package) I want to run from here, do I really have to import a package to the file system or MSDB under the SQL Integration Services on the server?
It appears to me that its kind of the same thing.
I'm new to this SSIS, SQL DB work, so I'm learning as I go. . . .

Hi everyone,
I'm stuck with this silly thing but I haven't idea how to obtain the path for the log file specified in a SSIS package programatically.
This snippet of code works fine:
Dim pkg As New Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package
Dim app As New Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
pkgLocation = "C:Documents and Settings40990880Mis documentosVisual Studio 2005ProjectsProyecto de SSIS3Proyecto de SSIS3ProvaPrimera.dtsx"
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()
After execution I'd like to see the log file which is allocated in the same place than DTSX file. But how??
Using pkg.LogProviders.Item(0).Name appears description reference "SSIS log provider for Text files1" but no the name of the file or its path
Thanks in advance for any thought or advice,

How dow you schedule a file(.dtsx)(I think it is a package) that was created in the SQL Server BI Design Studio to run? I can locate the file I created in SQL Server Management Studio and see it in the right hand pane and even edit it. I can run it in the Design Studio, but cant see how to do that in Management Studio nor how to schedule it.
This is my first attempt at recreating a DTS package using SQL Server tools instead of the Legacy conversion wizard, and I think my brain has overheated. I just cant find it on the Management Screen or the Design. I am also not searching correctly anymore on books online because I cannot find it.
Thanks for pointing me to where I need to go or do.

I am having trouble with a dtsx package to truncate a table, then insert the contents of a .csv file.
The package is being executed off the local filesystem, reading a csv on the same file system, and inserting into a remote SQL 2k5 server. If I run the package alone in BI it will run perfectly, if I implement the package into a console app in visual studio, it will trunc the table, but will not insert any of the data in the csv file. When running from DtExec I recieve the following error on the CSV portion after the table is truncated:
Code: 0xC00470FE
Soure: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline
Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for for componenet "Soure - My_File_CSV" (1).
I have tried all the work arounds I can find without any luck. All help will be appreciated.

So I've seen articles outlining how to execute a package in VB and how to pass variables along to the package, which is great.
But I'm wanting write a VB.NET app that will read the xml in a .dtsx package, looking for the available variables (and datatypes) that need to be passed to the package to configure it properly. Anyone done this? Is it best to use parent package variables? Or another type of configuration?
When looking at the xml of a .dtsx file, I can see a variables section that could be parsed... is there anything letting me know what is required versus optional? How do I know the datatype that I need to pass? Any help would be appreciated...

I have a simple SSIS package which includes one Analysis Services Processing Task. I have created a connection manager object (cmo) and assigned it to the AS task. Within the cmo I selected a specific user name and
password to log on to the server with. Tested this [domain][user account] and it works. Now here is the problem. When I run the package either in debug mode or from a command line, the packages ignores the connection manager and
attemps to use the account I am logged into the server with.
Using a config file to hold the credentials does not work either. When DTEXEC is used, the package attempts to use the credientials used to log in to the server.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Hi All!
I've been struggling with a problem I have. When I use DTEXECUI to run a package and manually add the config file, it gets ignored and there is no warning as such.
Here's the set up:
1) create SSIS package that uses a DB connection
2) enable config, add XML config, export the connection string, disable config
3) edit config file, change connection string
4) open package from Windows Explorer (double click)
5) add config file created in step 3
All of that works fine, but there are times when it doesn't. I think it depends on the editor used in step 3. If I use textpad and "pretty format" the XML (from the huge one-line built from within Visual Studio), then sometimes the changes aren't picked up. I can tell this because the "default" server in development is not accessable in production. When we "reformatted" the XML back to one line, the correct server was connected to.
I have no idea what the problem with the formatted XML was. I thought it was CRLF vs LF, but I have at least one config that formatted that way and it works fine. My current thought is character encoding when using TextPad.
My biggest problem is that DTEXECUI doesn't tell you that the config file isn't going to be used. It just ignores the "bad" config format and goes on its merry way using the information in the package itself. That really scares me.
Has anyone else seen this? What is the problem being introduced into the config file?
Thanks,
Frank

I think I've read to many post and now I'm confused on what the exact syntax should be and where in the web config file for connecting to my remote database on the web. I have a SQL Server 2005 database on the web. It was imported by the host from the members ID and passwords database created in Express 2005 from the ASP.Net configuration
Here's the portion of the config file:
<configuration>
<appSettings/>
<connectionStrings/>
<system.web>
Here is the sample connection string my host provided:
DRIVER={SQL Server};SERVER=sqlserver5.loosefoot.com;UID=myadmin;PWD=Your Password;database=eldersmembers
Would someone show me exactly what and where the syntax for the connection string goes?
Thanks in advance

I am using package configurations to store connectionstring for my database.
While moving the package from development to production, I used the same configuration files (without changing the connection string to point the database to production one). I ran the package in production and it updated the development database.
Then I changed the config files in production to point it to the production database.
However, the packages are still pointing to dev. database.
It seems that after running the package one in Production, it is not reading the updated config file for subsequent runs.
How to I make sure that the packages now read the latest config files.

Hi All,
I am looking for help trying to configure an XML dtsconfig file, I am using different connection managers for my Source and Destination Databases, I am also using an XML dtsconfig file to set these parameters dynamically, however I dont want to use userid/password to connect to my source/destination databases and instead use trusted connection or windows authentication, I remember we had an option in earlier DTS where we could set it up as 0 or 1and use windows authentication, I cannot find this in the new SSIS package properties.
Appreciate your help in advance.

In my SSIS packages I'm adding a config file that is storing only the connection strings to the database. Though most of my packages are reading or writing out flat files as well as connecting to a db. Do I need to put both db connection string and flat file connection strings in the config file? I'm currently adding only the db connection due to that will change depending which environment its ran in, unlike the flat file location will always remain the same.
I just want to be sure I don't need both for my package to run successfully.
