Configure Report Server With SQL Server Express With Advanced Services.

May 30, 2006

I'm having a world of trouble with the Reporting Services Server. The install went fine. I went in to configure the Report Server and when creating the Report Server and the Report Manager virtual directories I get the following error: "The virtual directory could not be created. The previously set virtual directory will still be used." The problem with this is that I have not previously set a virtual directory. When clicking on the link I get the additional error information: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException:
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementObject.InvokeMethod(String methodName, ManagementBaseObject inParameters, InvokeMethodOptions options)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.CreateVirtualDirectory(String virtualDirectory, String path)"

When I check IIS the directories were created but the Reporting Services Configuration Manager does not see them unless I attempt to recreate them again without deleting them from IIS.

Anyone have any ideas as to this disconnect?

Thanks in advance!

Trying To Configure Reporting Services SQL 2005 On Windows 2008 Server With IIS7

Apr 21, 2008

Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 server 64-bit SP1 and I have installed SQL 2005 SP2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit. My current version is 9.00.3042.00. I am trying to configure Reporting Services and I am having lots of trouble getting the Application Pools to work properly. I have followed the Microsoft Technet paper 839480 "How to Install and Configure Reporting Services on Windows Server 2008". In the "Configure Reporting Services" part, I have successfully configured everything (all arrows are green) and have the following setup:

Report Server Virtual dir: ReportServer Default Web Site
Report Manager Virtual dir: Reports Defualt Web Site
Windows Service Identity: ReportServer with a service acct login
Web Service Identity:
Report Server: ReportServer,
Report Manager: DefaultAppPool (I get an error when I try to configure it to anything else: ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800708AC at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

The one thing I notice in the SQL Server configuration manager is that there is a red dot next to the SQL Reporting Services services even though the green arrow is there to show it is running.

When I look in IIS7, I see the application pools Reports and ReportServer and they are both in Integrated mode. When I try to go to http://localhost/reportserver, it gives an error. It will work if I change both application pools to classic. But then when I try to go to http://localhost/reports, I get an error:

"REQUEST IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS CONTEXT".

I have read up on IIS7 and it says that:
"This error is due to a design change in the IIS7 Integrated pipeline that makes the request context unavailable in Application_Start event. When using the Classic mode (the only mode when running on previous versions of IIS), the request context used to be available, even though the Application_Start event has always been intended as a global and request-agnostic event in the application lifetime."

So, how do I configure these application pools to work using IIS7 with SQL 2005 Reporting Services on a Windows 2008 server? I have tried all kinds of different things based on what I am reading on the net and nothing is working. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Isabelle

How Do I Configure SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services To Deliver Subscription E-mails To Addresses External To My Windows Domain

Jun 10, 2007

Can anyone help me with a problem I have with SSRS 2005? How do I configure SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to deliver subscription e-mails to addresses external to my windows domain?

I've been having trouble configuring the Report Server e-mail delivery component to send subscription e-mails to addresses outside the domain on which the report server is hosted.

For e.g. since my local windows domain is named "smartsystems.com", I have found that the Report Manager does not have any problems sending subscription mails to "eawagu@smartsystems.com" but throws up an error whenever I include "eawagu@yahoo.com" in the recipients' list.

Any insights?

SQL Server And Terminal Services Application Mode

Aug 11, 2006

Hello!

I am specifically looking for a KB article, best practice, white paper etc, that states it is not recommended that SQL Server (either 2000 or 2005) is installed on a WIndows 2003 Server that is also running Terminal Services in application mode.

Is there such a document or reference?

Thanks,

Reporting Services - Server Application Unavailable

Dec 14, 2007

All of a sudden I am getting an error when connecting to reporting services, not sure how long it has been going on, but I know reporting services was working when we moved to WSS3.0.

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

And this is the error from the event log:

Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80070005 Access is denied.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Has anyone seen this error come up before or know of a quick fix for it.

Recently we upgraded to TFS 2008 and WSS 3.0 but the reporting services was still working after that.

Configure Integration Services On A Cluster

Nov 18, 2006

Hi

I am having an active/active cluster setup where there are 2 virtual SQL Servers one with default instance and other with named instance.

1) i need to know how to cluster integration service.

2) how are the integration packages are run, are they run by the integration
services service, or by the SQL Instance???

3) When fail over happens from one node to other will my packages continue to run??

i had setup Integration Services on a Cluster per the following article: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345193.aspx.... but

when i do fail over or move the group to another node

... getting an error indicating:
An error occured attempting to read properties for the 'xxx IntegrationServices' resource.
The object already exists.
Error ID: 5010 (00001392)
Do you want to ignore this error and continue
[yes] [yes to all] [no] ...

I understand that integration service can be clustered only once.....

Should i do the clustering in Integration Services in a different Group
than sql server groups??....but then again i wont be able to acces MSDB...

Please provide advice on the matter,,,,,i am desparately waiting for a solution

Thanks in advance....

Unable To Configure Reporting Services With Vista/IIS7

Jan 10, 2007

I am trying to configure a reporting server on my laptop at work. This laptop is running Vista and IIS 7. When I install reporting services, the option for "Install the default configuration" is disabled (greyed out) during setup. The install is successful, but then when I try to connect in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I get an unhandled exception ("A WMI error has occurred an no additional error information is available."). If I continue, this error continues to crop up as I attempt to configure the Report Server. When I attempt to configure the virtual directory, the configuration manager crashes. Then, when I navigate to the reportserver page, I get a page that states:
Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

Any ideas for a solution or workaround would be greatly appreciated.

Unable To Configure Reporting Services To Use SSIS Datasource

May 16, 2008

I've created a SSIS package with a DataReaderDestination and a SSRS report that points to it.

I referenced these links during development and I have everything working as expected locally. **I changed the config files as stated on both my local machine and our server. My config matches the example exactly.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345250.aspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159215.aspx

When I attempt to deploy my report project to the server I get this error message:
"An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'SSIS' that is not registered for this report server."

In the report manager data source properties page it reads:
"The data processing extension used for this report is not available. It has either been uninstalled, or it is not configured correctly."

In SQL Server Management Studio data source properties page SSIS is not a data source type option.

I've tried restarting both the Reporting Services and Integration Services on the server to no avail.

Any suggests? My problem is I can't get the SSIS to be recognized source on the server.

Installing The Asp.net Application Services In A Custom SQL Express Database.

Nov 16, 2005

I know that by default asp.net 2.0
creates the aspnetdb sql express database for storing membership, role
management, profiling etc. And I saw we have the aspnet_regsql tool to
have this installed in a standard sql server. But what should I do to
have these stored procedures, tables etc installed in an existing sql
express database? Aspnet_regsql doesn't seem suited for that.

I've noticed some sql scripts in the framework folder like
InstallCommon.sql, InstallMembership.sql, etc. They seem to be used to
create the regular aspnetdb.mdf database, should I just modify those
and run them against my own sql express database or is there a tool or
an easier way?

Cheers,
Frank.

Reporting Services Initial Application Design Question

Apr 26, 2007

I am new to Reporting Services, and I would like to serve up SQL 2005 Reporting Services reports via an ASP.NET web app (possibly using Report Viewer controls in Server mode). The web app will be running on an IIS server outside the firewall.
I would prefer to have the Reporting Services server be inaccessible outside the firewall, but it seems that the client browsers need direct URL access to the Reporting Services server. I guess this means either locating the Reporting Services server outside the firewall, or opening a hole in the firewall for access to the Reporting Services server.
Is there a Microsoft best-practice methodology/white-paper that addresses this scenario (especially as regards security concerns)?
Alternately, would it be possible, and would the same report presentation functionality be available (reports with expanding/collapsing sections, choice of export formats, etc), by calling the Reporting Services web service directly from the ASP.NET app, and manually populating the Response object?
Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Passing Parameter From Web Application To Reporting Services (w/o ReportViewer)

Sep 24, 2007

Hello,

I'm trying to rertieve specific RS 2005 report by passing WebApp control value (this.VCtrlNo.Text) to "CV Report" - name of my report with the following scripts.

1) No Action - when clicked. AutoPostBack is set and properly initialized.

Page.Response.Write("<script>window.open('http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Reports.aspx? /Reports+Folder/CV+Report&vctrlno=" + this.VCtrlNo.Text + "','_blank');return false; </script>");

2) This just opened the default page instead of specific report.
<a href="http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fReports+Folder%2fCV+Report&rc=Render&vctrlno=10-0000037", target="_blank">Open CV Report
</a>

Where "Reports" is the reportmanager, vctrlno is the parameter name (properly set) and obviously I want to open a new page.

I would be very thankful to anyone who can lead to make this work.

Thanks
