I have installed reporting services for 64 bit SQL and I am having a problem configuring it correctly so that I can access the reports manager on http://localhost/reports.
I have studied various SQL server 2005 bibles and looked at information on the microsoft support site but nothing seems to be helping me.
I get the impression that it could be a problem with the IIS server.
Can anyone give me a complete run down on how to set up and configure the reporting services so that it will actually work. Every step of the way please.
I have been trying to configure SQL Server 2005 Report Services. Every time I create the ReportServer database, the systems asks me if I want to "update" the database. It allows me no other option. When I click "apply", I get the message that the database version does not match my installation version. Does anybody have any insight into what happening with the configuration? What's more, do you have a solution?
I'm Getting "Report Server WMI Provider error: Not Found" when trying to Grant Database Access while configuring the Reporting Sevices Integration. Logging in fine to the DB. Tried all the WMI troublshooting and can't find any issues there. Any tips?
I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.
I have two webservers and another server where the database resides.. and in my webservers i have reporting serverices set up.. in my Report server configuration manager for Webserver 1, in the database setup tab i am specifying the remote the database server which i want to connect and i am providing the correct username and passwords to connect to the remote databse and when i specify the remote database username and password i can see all the databases listed in that server. So in server name i have specified the name of the sql server.. and in the Database name i have specified ReportServer and given credentails type as sql server credentials and given the correct username and password..
But when i give apply i am getting an warning or error saying that The database version (c.0.8.54) does not match the Report service installation. This version cannot be upgraded. You must use a different database.
and in internet explorer if i give http:\localhost eports I get an error saying The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'C.0.8.54'. The expected version is 'C.0.8.40'. To continue update the version of the report server database and verify access rights.
When i open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager on our newly installed SQL 2005 box i get a red X on "Web Service Identity".
The window in question states that "The Web Service runs under the ASP .NET Machine account under IIS 5 or ..." with what looks to be a text entry box that is grayed out with the label "ASP .NET Service Account. The text entry box that is grayed out is blank.
When the Apply button is pressed a Task Status box opens at the bottom that states "There was an error setting the identity for the web service. The previously set identity will still be used."
When the option for "Tell me more about the problem and how to resolve it." is pressed i get a dialog box that has two lines of text reading:
"ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occured in the WMI provider. Error Code 80070005"
Our report server is non-functional at the moment, and we really need it to work ASAP. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
*edit*
when i try to open http://localhost/reports i get the message that "The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.
I have this problem when i go to http://<servername>/reprots
"The attempt to connect to the report server failed.Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible "
I dont have any problem viewing the deployed reports from the site, http://<servername>/reportserver. only issue is in viewing report manager.
i have searched the forums and did all the suggested changes required in the config file, by adding the full report url and removing the entries in the virtualdirectory tag. still it didnt help....
I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.
When we assign security in SRS, in the user name field we have to type the domainusername manually. We cannot see the drop down of all the users in Active directory. Is it possible to configure SRS to get the names from Active directory. If we add any new users to our AD, it automatically refreshes at certain set intervals. I am talking to a similar function in Sharepoint. I browsed through a bit on this and think it is not possible. But I want to make sure that I am on the right path.
Can you please correct me if my understanding is right?
I appreciate your help and thank you for your time,
I have searched the web and have not had any luck on finding the issue to my problem. I'm sure it's probably simple, so here it goes.
When receiving the following error "The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation"
Now, I would like to add to the error message shown above an extra line below it on the web page to reflect something like "Please contact XXX @ XXX if you feel that you need to have your login issue resolved" ...or something meaningful in addition to the default error messages.
I am not getting this error normally, as I have made a typo when login in on purpose! I am just trying to find a way to add more detail to the current error message or change the message to what I want it to say. This would go for any error message received by an end user received through SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.
Do I have to create some sort of filter to read the message coming back from within SOAP? Are these messages stored in ReportingServices database or htm file?
I am using SSRS 2008 R2. On my SSRS machine. I went and created the SQL Alias (both for 32 bit and the other one).
Then I ran the SSRS configuration wizard and tried to configure the SSRS service to create a report server database by using a SQL Alias.
It connects to the DB fine but at the last step it gives an error saying no such host. How to configure SSRS Service when they used an alias for the sql server?
I am trying to automate the setup of SQL server 2014 Standard edition with SSRS. To avoid SSRS being setup using the default port 80 for the webservice and report manager url's, I've chosen to install SQL server with the setting RSINSTALLMODE="FilesOnlyMode" and then use powershell to do the final setup steps. To setup the ReportServer database, I use the "GenerateDatabaseCreationScript" method available in the "MSReportServer_ Configuration Setting" class.
This succeeds without problems however when I use my browser to connect to the web service or report manager url's, I get a "rsInvalid Report Server Database" and a "rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable " error, respectively.Running the stored procedure named GetDbVersion in the ReportServer database returns "C.0.9.45". If I delete the ReportServer database and then recreate it database manually with the Report Services Configuration manager, the same stored procedure returns "162".
So it seems to me there's a problem with the GenerateDatabaseCreationScript but I can't find any information on this. How can I automate the setup of SSRS and ensure it does not use port 80? There are many manual solutions involving multi-step GUI solutions but the key for me is to automate this with powershell which doesn't appear to be possible.
Hello, I have a question regarding installing SQL Express with Advanced Services from the command prompt. I am executing a .cmd file which has the following syntax:
Yet, after the installation when I run the Reporting Services configuration tool, none of the settings for Reporting Services are set. I would like to be able to install Reporting Services from the command prompt and have it use the default settings for creating a default website just like you can through the User Interface using the Setup.exe but cannot seem to figure out what I am missing in my .cmd file?
I am trying to follow the instructions on: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb677365.aspx they contain many "if"s and links to other sites and I got totally confused and stuck. The idea is - I need to have one machine with SQL for reporting services and SharePoint databases and the reporting services and the other machine for a complete SharePoint installation (the main server of the farm)
Now I have done the following: two servers (lets call them SQL and MOSS)
The domain contains the following users: sqlservices: for running all the SQL services and reporting services moss: for administering MOSS databases moss-services: for running all the MOSS services Machine SQL - installed Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1, joined to the domain as SQL The following is done from a local Administrator account: IIS 6 with ASP.NET installed SQL Server 2005 with SP2, Reporting services installed but not configured all the services are running as domainsqlservices .NET 3.0 installed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918642 fix installed done WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regiis €“i MOSS as Web Front installed, not configured
Machine MOSS - installed Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1, joined to the domain as MOSS The following is done from a local Administrator account: IIS 6 with ASP.NET installed .NET 3.0 installed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918642 fix installed done WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regiis €“i Computers->My computer->DCOM Config->IIS WAMREG admin Service->PropertiesSecurity->Customize->Edit, added domainmoss-services and domainMOSS users with rights Local launch, Local activate MOSS Complete installed, configured for: New server farm Database server: SQL Username: domainMOSS Port: Default Auth: NTLM SharePointRS.msi installed to enable RS in SharePoint Admin page Then temporarily gave to the user domainMOSS sysadmin rights in the SQL server on the SQL machine to avoid errors with creating databases while configuring SharePoint from the Admin Portal. From the Admin Portal configured Office SharePoint Server Search with domainmoss-services account Shared Services Administration €“ New SSP created with 2 separate web apps for SSP and MySites, both app pools run as domainmoss-services and SSP itself runs as domainmoss-services Windows SharePoint Services Search configured, Service Account - domainmoss-services, Content Access Account - domainmoss-services
Everything went OK.
Now came back to the machine SQL: run Reporting Services Configuration and: Report Server Virtual Directory €“ created new, called it ReportServer. When hit Apply, the applicatin suddenly quit, but I checked €“ the Virtual Directory was registered on the IIS and working. Checked if Windows service identity is domainsqlservices, OK. Web service identity: Application Pool: New Name: ReportServer Windows Account: domainsqlservices Apply, everything went fine.
Database setup: choose server SQL, Connect Database name: New name: ReportServer, checked Create the report server database in SharePoint Integrated Mode OK Credeantials Type - Service credentials (I guess it means previously set domainsqlservices will be used) Apply,OK, everything went fine.
Launch SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard, Connect to an existing farm, Database server: SQL, Retrieve datbase names: selected SharePoint_Config, Username: domainMOSS, Next, everything fine here.
Now as far as I understand I need to give reporting services an access to SharePoint databases? Went to the machine MOSS, launched SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration:
Application Management-> Reporting Services-> Manage integration settings, URL: http://SQL/reportserver, Windows Authentification, OK then back, Grant database access-> Server Name: SQL, OK, now it is asking for credentials. And now the problem: no matter what I enter (domainsqlservices, domainMOSS) I get a message: €žA connection to the computer cannot be established€?. Why, why, why? I can ping the server, SharePoint services are running fine and they are using the SQL server on the SQL machine and there are no errors in the event viewer (they should be if there were any problems to connect the SQL databases). If I enter wrong credentials, I receive "Unable to log on with the given username and password.", so I guess there IS a connection to the computer (or how else could SharePoint determne that login is wrong?).
Also, if I open http://SQL/reportserver, I get €žThe report server has encountered a configuration error€? and the log in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesLogFiles says €žSharePoint content service is null. Report Server may not have joined the SharePoint farm, or Report Server service account may not have been granted access to farm.€? I guess it is OK while I have not granted access to the SharePoint databases? Please, show me, what did I do so wrong that €žA connection to the computer cannot be established€?? How can I grant the access and finalize configuring Reporting Services? Thanks.
When I try to put a new report in existing folder there's no problem, but now i have fresh installed Reporting Services and no Visual Studio2005. How do i open a new folder?
I have a report that is a little wide, and when I export it to an Excel file it spans about 2 pages. I have it set to an 8.5 height and 11 width for printing in landscape on normal-sized paper. But is there a way to make sure that the report exports with the printing page break covering the entire width so that the report prints only one page across? The users don't want to resize in Excel before printing.
I've got a RS2000 report from Analysis services 2000. This report is working fine but after the upgrade to SQL2K5, i'm having issues with changes to parameters.
Basically i'm passing DateQuarter, CustomersLevel as parameters to the following mdx script. I've tried to change mdx script in RS2005 but no luck yet. I don't much about the parameter level changes in sql2k5. So can anyone suggest what is wrong in the script.
In sql2000 the script looks like this...
="with " & "member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)' " & "Member [Measures].[CustomerUniqueName] as '[Customers By Class].currentmember.UniqueName' " & "Member [Measures].[CustomerDisplayName] as '[Customers By Class].Currentmember.Name' " & "SELECT " & "{[Measures].[CustomerUniqueName],[Measures].[CustomerDisplayName]} on Columns, " & "filter({descendants(" & Parameters!CustomerClass.value & ", [Customers by Class].[" & Parameters!CustomersLevel.value & "], SELF)}, " & " [Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on rows " & "from Sales "
i've changed the script in sql2005 but not working yet..
with member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)' Member [Measures].[CustomerUniqueName] as '[Customers By Class].currentmember.UniqueName' Member [Measures].[CustomerDisplayName] as '[Customers By Class].Currentmember.Name'
SELECT {[Measures].[CustomerUniqueName],[Measures].[CustomerDisplayName]} on Columns, filter({descendants( STRTOMEMBER(@CustomerClass), "[Customer Class]." + STRTOMEMBER(@CustomersLevel), SELF)}, [Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on rows from Sales
I have created profiles in my database as mentioned below. now i want to delete the profile created in database. can some one tell me how to proceed furthur.

Attempting to link Access 2003 to SQL 2005, there is something keeping from doing so.
1 I setup the instance as sqlexpress.
2 I have a database shell there also.
3 It connects when I start the instance service.
4 My remote connections are configured to handle TCP/IP & Named Pipes.
Not in this order, but you get the idea. Now that I have these in place, I went first to the Access 2003 database to link the tables to this. When I came accross trouble in the form of need for a DSN to the domain for the things I created above.
In attempting to create one that looked functional, I came back to the same step. But, unsuccessful to link the tables again because browsing to that domain does not even show that particular file. This is the problem.
I do believe that once I am able to select a DSN, I will have a "healthy baby connection". I will then be the proud father of my first Server-side database setup!!!! But I am trying to get over these labor pains.
my problem is , i want to deploy my rdl and rds file which i make in the sql 2005 reporting services. Now i want to deploy this rdl through asp.net coding using language VB i hope someone is help me Thanks Rahul Sinha
SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 (SSRS) is installed on Vista Ultimate. I cannot access to the http://localhost/ReportServer page. IE posts an internal error HTTP 500.0 (after IE required a Windows account). All the configurations of Reporting Services are OK. In the Log file, there is nothing: the Web Services does not seem to be launched.
By continuing the investigations in IIS 7 (activation of the €śRules of follow-up of the requests having failed€?, I found the error following:
Translation of the french sentence: ErrorCode="Incorrect syntax of the file name, the directory or the volume."
I made a full research on Internet and in the documentation at my disposal and I did not find anything which can advance me towards a beginning of solution€¦
Thank you with all for the assistance which you will be able to bring to me.
I (absolute beginner) configured a distribution on a publisher wich acts as its own distributor. I did it by right click on replication "configure distribution", followed all instructions and chose all default values. Nothing more. But now I want to view the distributor properties and following message appears:
SQL Server is unable to complete the Distributor Properties.
ZUSĂ„TZLICHE INFORMATIONEN:

My collegue has no problems viewing these properties. We have both XP and SQLServer 2005 SP1. What is the reason for this error message? And how can I solve it?
I have a report that displays fine in VS 2005 (in the Preview tab), and if I hit it via a URL in IE as a deployed report. However, when I embed it in a ReportViewer control for display on a web site, I get no data back for the report. I am using an Oracle database for the data source. None of the the logs in reporting services show anything wrong, there are no events in the event viewer to indicate any problems, Oracle logs also show no problems and no errors are returned to the page when the "View Report" button is clicked.
I read that this sample is included, however when I install the samples the other three are in the "Extension Samples" directory but the "Custom Report Item Sample" is missing. Can anybody please tell me where I can find it?
I tried to pass parameter from one report to another report. I can send the parameter using following option: I used jump to url option and write the following expression:
