Configuring SSIS Package To Read A Value Before Executin
Oct 2, 2006
Hi,
Is it possible in any ways to Configure a SSIS package in such a way that based on the User Input the package runs. For e.g if there is a table which has say 10 distinct groups. Normal SSIS package would ideally pick all the data from the source to the Destination
I want to know how to configure in Such a way that I should be able to say Group X as the input and data related to GroupX alone should be copied.
Select * from SomeTable where GroupName = @CongigVar.
how to achieve something like this?
thanks

Hi all,
I am wondering if you guys have any experience with failing Stored Procedures running inside a SSIS package with the following error:
=====================================================
Message

Sometime it fails when gets called through a job and sometimes even when a package is open in a design mode. The actual Stored Procedure NEVER fails if called in SQL Server Management Studio.
Any ideas or suggestions will be very helpful and appreciated
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
We have an extensive set of SSIS packages that run daily to build our datawarehouse. We have run into a bit off a maintenance issue which I am hoping someone can help me with. The SSIS packages execute stored procedures. What I would like to know is, is there a quick way to determine what SSIS package is running a certain stored procedure?
My first approach was to load the packages into a table in a database using various xml functions. Basically, the table would contain the package name, and then the stored procedures that package executes. I have run into some difficulties with this though. Has anyone tried anything similar or perhaps know of a tool which could provide similar functionality?
Some help would be much appreciated.

I'm trying to gather information from within a SSIS package for benchmarking, reconciliation, and reporting purposes in regards to cube processing, which I'm initiating using the AS processing task.
What is the easiest way to capture this information?
The only way I've been able to come up with is to use a profiler trace. If this is really the only way, what is the easiest way to execute and read the trace from within SSIS?
Also, if a script task has to be used, does anyone have a code sample?
Thanks in advance!

We are trying to import data from a .csv file which sits on shared location. This package runs fine when we run it from designer. but we are having problem when we do it at run time (accessing it through a service). Same package runs fine if that file is on same server.
Is any one gone through this issue before? i appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

Hi,
I am trying to develop a SSIS package which will read the records from the flat file and insert them into a destination table. I have some validations written in script component. I have declared two Read Write variables with package level scope. when i try to assign a value to the variable in the script component and run the package, the package throws me an error "The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute".
What should be done to over come the problem please help me on this regard

I have a SSIS package which reads an excel file and loads data into a table using script component(C#) as a source. The package runs without any errors when I manually run it on my machine and on the server. But the package fails when run as a SQL Server Agent job.
I tried all the possible fixes I found on the web but still can't get it to work.

"SSIS 2012 Catalog doesn't have option to give read access to SSIS Catalog to view package run reports" ... Any luck allowing power developers / operators access to READ the SQL 2012 SSIS Execution Reports without granting them SSIS_Admin or Sysadmin?
According to this link posted back in 2011 (w/ Microsoft's feedback in Nov 2011: "We’re closing this issue as “Won’t Fix.” At this point the bug does not meet our bar for resolving prior to SQL Server 2012 RTM. As we approach the SQL Server 2012 release the bar for making code changes gets progressively higher." URL....Regarding Permissions to SSIS Catalog, here are the findings. We can give access in three ways:
1. READ Access – We can provide a user db_datareader access. With this the user can see the objects within the SSIS catalog database, but cannot see the reports.
2. SSIS_ADMIN – Add the user to this database role in SSISDB. With this the user can view the reports. But it also provides them privileges to modify catalog information which is not expected. We can add it using below script EXEC sp_addrolemember 'ssis_admin' , 'REDMONDPAIntelAnalyst'
3. SYSADMIN - Add the user to this server role. This will make the user an admin on the SQL server. This is not intended. Is there any method available which will have provision to give read only access to see SSIS Catalog package execution reports and not having modify Catalog access.

Is there any way to configure a SSIS package variable using a SQL Statement?
The "Package Configurations" does not accept SQL statement.
I have about 5 package variables that need to be initialized using queries.
I don't want to end up writing 5 execute sql tasks to initialize them.
In DTS we could do that at one place using Dynamic Properties Task.

OK so I am aware that the SSIS service can be clustered relatively easily but my problem is a bit more complex I believe.
I have an ActiveActiveActive 3 node cluster running Windows 2003 sp1 all running SSIS packages. What I need is a solution to having an instance fail to another node and still be able to run scheduled SSIS packages through the SQL Agent.
The solution that I have come up with is to have a single network share for all three instances of SSIS running locally on the individual nodes. I have removed the ability for SSIS to look in MSDB by altering the config file and reference only the Packages share on the network for accessability. They all share the same config file on the share as well. The share structure looks something like this simplified example.
\server1SSISConfiguration
\server1SSISPackages
\server1SSISPackagesInstance1
\server1SSISPackagesInstance2
\server1SSISPackagesInstance3
Once I change the registry to point to the config file all three instances can access the Instance1, 2 or 3 directories.
This works ok for the jobs, and I can access the stored packages under the file system folder only if I'm remotely connected to that particular physical server hosting the service or on the console. The problem I am having though is when users or I attempt to access the SSIS Engine through SSMS from our locale machines. It seems as though SSMS is having trouble with the passthrough of the directory information. On the share I obviously have permissiosn to access the directory structure (full control to be exact) because I can get to it when I access it from SSMS on the server.
This is the error I get...

Hi,
I have created a package which extracts data from src table to dest table. src and dest are available in test database.Another database test1 is available which has only src table.
Now I have created package level variables for source and connection string.if both are test database then data from test.src - > test.dest otherwise if source is test1 then test1.src = test.dest.
All these things worked fine from Business Intelligent studio. But when I want to configure the same from sql Job Agent, it fails . It reports as Invalid Command Iine parameters.
In Job Step I have given Package source as FileSystem, Package as physical path.In Set Values Property Path = /MyTest.source; Value = Data Source=VENUS;Initial Catalog=Test1;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;
Please shed some light on this issue.
Thanks

Hi,

And there is a task (Execute SSIS package) in First package that calls the execution of second package.
I m continuously receiving an error "Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available."
As we are running first package by job, job runs successfully logging above error
The protection level of second package is set to "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey"
Can anybody please suggest how to handle it?

Hi
I'm trying to create a package that copyes file from one folder to another. I have created a package configuration for the destination file connection manager and specified that i set the connection string with it. Now when i deploy the package into sql server it uses the package configuration file from this location : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackages . This is not the location of the package configuration file i told the package to use.
when i change the destination folder for the package in the "c:program files ...." the sql server agent picks up the changes,
but when i specify the change in the package configuration file that i specified for the package to use, it gets ignored ???
Previously this worked allways... i dont know what i could have possibly done wrong. Except when i deploy the package
it asks for the location of the package dependencies which points to "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackages". I been to course about ssis and there never was any discussion that package dependencies should be changed, nor ahve i encoutered anywhere in the net that this property should be changed ?
Am i wrong to assume, that when i create the package configuration for the package, that the place where i tell it to be is not in fact the place where the sql server agent integration services job looks for it ?
Update
If i delete the package configuration file from "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackages" it still doesnt use the package configuration file that i have specified in the package configurations when i created the package ???
Update no 2
The package looks for the corrent package configuration file when i test it in the bids, but when i deploy it into sql server then the confguration is read from the "C:Program Files"....
In short thank you Microsoft for making a product that actually works the way the users wants it to, is simple to use and is simple to debug,
like i can totally read from the logs, event manager or just someplace else that i have yet to discover the reason for the package for reading the freaking config file from the wrong location... not. I have only spend like 6 hours today trying to make it work but it simply doesnt want to co-operate...

Hi
I was wondering how I could pass on the following parameters from an ini file to a stored procedure within a DTS package. The parameters in the ini file look like:
[DatabaseCleaner]
! -- TableToBeCleaned_N=<table name>,<months to hold on db>,<months to hold on hd>
! -- <N> must be a successive number starting from 1 ...
TableToBeCleaned_1=Transactions,24,24
TableToBeCleaned_2=Payments,24,24
TableToBeCleaned_3=PresenceTickets,24,24
As I do not know how many tables that will be declared in the ini file I have to loop through until the last parameters and pass it over to the SP.
How can I do that? Any idea?
Thanks

Hello all,
I have been struggling trying to read and/or write package level variables from within my custom task. I'd like to be able to get and set values from within the Execute method of my custom task. I have searched this forum and the books online and can't seem to find the answer. I thought maybe I could use an expression on my task (mapping the package variable to a custom task public property) but that doesn't seem to be working for me. I also would have thought I could use the VariableDispenser object from within my task but the collection is empty. I have 3 package level variables configured and can't seem to find a way to access them (with intentions of getting/setting). Could someone point me to a good doc or provide an example that may accomplish this? Thanks!
(I'm using package level variables as a means of passing simple information between tasks that are not using a DB, if there is a better way I'm open to suggestions.)

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.
As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.
Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?
If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Hi All,
I am in the process of moving from a 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054) to a 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054 with 4 CPUs and 8GB of memory on Win 2003 SP2) and the process has been very frustrating to say the least. I am having a problem with packages that I created on my 64-bit SQL Server. I am importing a few tables from the 32-SQL Server into the 64-bit SQL Server using the Task --> Import to create the package.
Sometimes when I am creating a package I get the following error in a message box:
SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered. The wizard cannot continue and it will terminate.
Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Windows.Forms)
Other times when I run a package that has run successfully before I get the following error:
Faulting application dtexecui.exe, version 9.0.3042.0, stamp 45cd726d, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x025d23f0.
Other times I get this error message:
.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.1433 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (79FFEE24) (80131506)
And still other times
The package appears to hang when running. By this I mean that the Package Execution Progress shows progress up to a point then it just stops. (The package takes about 17 seconds to run normally) CPU usage is at 1% and the package cannot be stopped.
I have deleted and re-created the package several times and I have also re-installed the service pack on the SQL Server (9.0.3054) but that did not help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions to try?
Thanks.

I would like to standardize SSIS development so that developers all start with the same basic template. I have set it up so it is an available template ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908018 ) but I would like it to be the default when a new project or package is created. Is this an option?

Hi there
We have a SSIS run which runs as follows
The master package has a configuration file, specifying the connect strings
The master package passes these connect-strings to the child packages in a variable
Both master package and child packages have connection managers, setup to use localhost. This is done deliberately to be able to test the packages on individual development pcs.
We do not want to change anything inside the packages when deploying to test, and from test to production. All differences will be in the config files (which are pretty fixed, they very seldom change). That way we can be sure that we can deploy to production without any changes at all.
The package is run from the file system, through a job-schedule.
We experience the following when running on a not default sql-server instance (called dkms5253uedw)
Case 1:
The master package starts by executing three sql-scripts (drop foreign keys, truncate tables, create foreign keys). This works fine.
The master package then executes the first child package. We then in the sysdtslog get:
Error - cannot connect to database xxx?
Info - package is preparing to get connection string from parent ?
The child package then executes OK, does all its work, and finish. Because there has been an error, the master package then stops with an error.
Case 2:
When we run exactly the same, but with the connection strings in the config file pointing to the default instance (dkms5253), the everything works fine.
Case 3:
When we run exactly the same, again against the dkms5253uedw instance, but now with the exact same databases defined in the default instance, it also works perfect.
Case 4:
When we then stop the sql-server on the default instance, the package faults again, this time with
Error - timeout when connect to database xxx?
Info - package is preparing to get connection string from parent ?
And the continues as in the first case
From all this we conclude, that the child package tries to connect to the database before it knows the connection string it gets passed in the variable from the master package. It therefore tries to connect to the default instance, and this only works if the default instance is running and has the same databases defined. As far as we can see, the child package does no work against the default instance (no logging etc.).
We have tried delayed validation in the packages and in the connection managers, but with the same results (error).
So we are desperately hoping that someone can help us solve this problem.
Thanx,
/Nils M - Copenhagen

I am able to call the Child package using the execute package task and use Configurations to pass values from the parent variable to the child, but I am not able to pass the value from the child to the parent.
I have a variable called datasetId in both the parent and child. it gets computed in the child and needs to be passed to the parent...
Any suggestions?

Deployed Report having SSIS package as source do not work when Indirect Package configuration is used in ETL package. It seems ETL package when called/executed from Report manager does not recognize environment variable to pick up the dtsconfig file.
The Report works when Direct package configuration is used to same dtsconfig file.
What could be the reason? Any solution for this? This will cause our build/deployment to QA and Prod very difficult.
