Configuring SSRS In A SaaS-kind Of Environment

Hi,
We are developing a windows application (Distributed via ClickOnce) and hosting the
SqlServer 2005 at our company. Now, we need to add reporting services to our application
and I've stumbled upon some problems.
First off, each customer has their own database on the same SqlServer instance. What
I would want, and need guidance for, is the following..
1. I want each customer to be able to use the Report Builder to login and access a
model only targeted against their database (maybe using some sort of sql user account?).
2. I want each customer to be able to login to Report Manager and save/edit their
own reports targeted solely for their database.
3. If possible, is there a way to script this for easy creation when we acquire a new customer.
4. If this is not at all possible, what other solutions are there out there?

Each time I start of SQL Server Management Studio, I get the following message "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio configuring environment for first time".
I had a simiiliar message with Visual Studio 2005 and fixed it by setting the setting to look on local disk drive. I cannot find a similiar setting in SQL Server 2005.
Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Any fix for the seemingly random sort order of the variables in the dropdown list when configuring parameters and connection managers in the SSISDB catalog?
I imported all of our connection strings into an environment (about 200 of them). They were inserted in alpha order and the ID values within the internal.environment_variables table shows them in order as well, by ID and by name.
When I run profiler and capture the command that retrieves them and run it in ssms they are in order but in the dropdown they seem random.
There are no values within any of the tables that accounts for the order they are in.
If a package has 5 connections you need to go through the unsorted list 5 times to find them.
Sometimes you get lucky and they are in the first 20 or so.
I know I can write a script, just wondering if there is a fix for the sorting.

Hi All,
I am fairly new to SSRS. I want to install SSRS on my local system which has OS of Win XP sp2 (not a server). I have installed SQL Server instance on this box. Can any body tell if i need Win Server 2000 or 2003 OS to install SSRS or can i use Win XP, if so please give some guidelines.

In the MSDN white paper "Microsoft .NET Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite", on page 2, it shows an example of calling a RFC with a variable. Specifically, it states "To execute this statement, you must create a SAPParameter object with the name @var1, specify its value, and add the new object to the SAPCommand object corresponding to the query." How do I create a SAPParameter object?

We are having our SSRS (Sql Server Reporting Services) Servers deployed in Domain1 to connect to the Domain1 data sources. Now, when we configure the SSRS datasources (which is in Domain1) to run under €œDomain2/User€? credentials , it€™s taking 60 minutes to render a report whereas when we configure the SSRS datasources to run under €œDomain1/User€? account it€™s taking only 5 seconds.
I would like to know €œWhy there is a latency difference while configuring the SSRS data sources with different domain credentials (Domain1Domain2)?€?
Any pointers to Support KB or any other related articles would be really great.

I am using SSRS 2008 R2. On my SSRS machine. I went and created the SQL Alias (both for 32 bit and the other one).
Then I ran the SSRS configuration wizard and tried to configure the SSRS service to create a report server database by using a SQL Alias.
It connects to the DB fine but at the last step it gives an error saying no such host. How to configure SSRS Service when they used an alias for the sql server?

I am trying to automate the setup of SQL server 2014 Standard edition with SSRS. To avoid SSRS being setup using the default port 80 for the webservice and report manager url's, I've chosen to install SQL server with the setting RSINSTALLMODE="FilesOnlyMode" and then use powershell to do the final setup steps.To setup the ReportServer database, I use the "GenerateDatabaseCreationScript" method available in the "MSReportServer_ Configuration Setting" class.
This succeeds without problems however when I use my browser to connect to the web service or report manager url's, I get a "rsInvalid Report Server Database" and a "rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable " error, respectively.Running the stored procedure named GetDbVersion in the ReportServer database returns "C.0.9.45". If I delete the ReportServer database and then recreate it database manually with the Report Services Configuration manager, the same stored procedure returns "162".
So it seems to me there's a problem with the GenerateDatabaseCreationScript but I can't find any information on this. How can I automate the setup of SSRS and ensure it does not use port 80? There are many manual solutions involving multi-step GUI solutions but the key for me is to automate this with powershell which doesn't appear to be possible.

I've been charged with architecting a new SSRS solution for our environment. We're mainly a .NET shop which works with an Oracle Database Server. Our developers want to start using SSRS for report creation and I'm not sure what is the best approach when it comes to this. Normally most of our environments have 3 separate servers, each one is DEV, QA and Prod. With SSRS however, i know that you can create multiple folders each with its own datasource connection, so i wonder if it would be better to just have one server were the developers develop their reports and then move them into a 'production' folder. (Any particular downsides to this approach?)
Also, are there considerations to be taken say, to tune Production SSRS vs a development SSRS or is that not really an issue? Besides that any other resources or tips for implementing SSRS for the first time, we're not going to do much with the actual databases to start we're just going to connect to our main Oracle database.Â

I'm using Virtual PC on my WinXP PC, with two W2K3 environments runnings as Virtual PC guests. My goal is to use these virtual servers to emulate a distributed SSRS environment--prior to setting up a similar environment on physical servers.
One of the W2K3 guests is my database server; the other W2K3 guest is my report server. Just like with a physical SSRS environment, there are many choices that need to be made during the installation and configuration--any one of which, it seems, can prevent the environment from working properly.
Currently, I'm struggling with getting my virtual distributed SSRS environment to work. I could go into the details, but I figured I'd ask a basic question first: Is anyone aware of a book, magazine article, blog, etc. that goes through a distributed SSRS installation--listing the requirements, discussing the choices, considering the implications, etc.?
Off the top of my head, such a walk-through would ideally cover networking configuration issues (Virtual PC or otherwise), Active Directory considerations, Windows Firewall settings between the servers, SSRS-related service account selections, authentication between the servers, etc.
If no one has produced such a walk-through (!), I'd be happy to write one so that others don't have to deal with the same struggles I'm currently dealing with....but I'd need your help.

Hi,
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.

I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?

I am setting up sharepoint and sql server integration environment. I am considering the following topology: PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 and Reporting Services in SharePoint mode Two Server Deployment

I am looking to follow the topology example by the letter, which involves installing PowerPivot for SharePoint (aka SSAS in SharePoint mode) in the same server as my SQL, and installing SSRS in SharePoint (SP) integrated mode in the same server as SharePoint.
I understand, however, that if I wanted to install SSRS in SP mode in the same server as SQL, I could but only if the server contains the SP Object Model.
My first question is, what would involve having the SP Object Model in the SQL Server?
Would only installing SP binaries be enough; or Do I need to do a minimal install of SP in the SQL server enough for it to joing the SP farm? And most importantly, what would be the licensing implications for SP in case I want proceed down this route and have SSRS in SharePoint mode installed in the same server as the SQL?

We have installation of Dbase Engine and SSIS that is PRODUCTION, and want to replace with newer hardware. In "the old days", we built "boxname_new" and installed SQL with "sqlname_new", took PROD users off-line, and quickly renamed original boxes/SQL and new boxes/SQL to original name, copied data and off we went with upgrade.
NOW, the "renaming" option for SQL tools is not supported, but with re-installation.
Has anyone developed game plan steps for accomplishing hardware upgrade, including SQL environment swap with MINIMAL downtime for PRODUCTION environment? Can you share?

I'm not looking for details or code, just general direction I should go. Here is my goal:
I have a SQL stored procedure that returns data which I will need to add spaces to, then end up with a space delimited text file.
This txt file will then be needed to be saved and emailed.
Also, I would like to be able to schedule this in the Task Scheduler for once a month execution.
Is this all just one big crazy idea?

In the company that I work there are two offices, one is outside the city and the other is in the city. They are connected trough a DS0 using frame relay. The thing is that the comunication is very slow (the SQL server is in the city) and we want to add a new server at the office outside the city and we want at the end of the day replicate the data between the two servers so every server has the actual data. We didn't use primary keys, instead of that we used identities (autoincremental value administered by the server). What kind of replication should I use and why? (I'm new with SQL Server). There are 3 kinds: Snapshot, Transactional and Merge.

Hi,
I have a problem in a Stored Procedure SQL query im writing, basically what I want is something that works like this
WHERE intField IN (@strCommaSepList_Of_Integers)
First I tried this:
SELECT idComp_Clie_Bran_User, strComp_Clie_Bran_User_FirstName, strComp_Clie_Bran_User_Surname
FROM dbo.tblComp_Clie_Bran_Users
WHERE (fk_idCompany = @fk_idCompany) AND (fk_idComp_Client = @fk_idComp_Client) AND (fk_idComp_UserGroup IN (@strListUserGroupsAllowed))
But if I passed a 25,26 value to the last paramenet is gave an error saying:
Syntax error converting the varchar value '25,36' to a cllumn of data type int.
How can I get this to work??
If for example I manually put the WHERE IN values it works, ike this I mean:
SELECT idComp_Clie_Bran_User, strComp_Clie_Bran_User_FirstName, strComp_Clie_Bran_User_Surname
FROM dbo.tblComp_Clie_Bran_Users
WHERE (fk_idCompany = @fk_idCompany) AND (fk_idComp_Client = @fk_idComp_Client) AND (fk_idComp_UserGroup IN (25, 36))
But thats no use as I have to pass the list of values dynamically...

I am unable to understand how can I create a new filegroup?
I know how to move certain text/ntext/images column to a new file group - thru design table but my problem is how to create a new filegroup?
Do I have to use Alter Table/Alter Database for this or there is any other better way?

Here's a basic overview of my Table
ID identity int
ParentID int
Name varchar
Now, the root level items will have a ParentID of NULL, and the child nodes will have it's parent's ID in it's ParentID column (a simple self-referencing relationship).
However, when I select it, I would like to Order by ID, but then have all it's children right after it. For example, if this is the unsorted view:

----------------------
1 <NULL> Test
2 1 Test Child 1
3 <NULL> Test 2
4 1 Test Child 2
5 3 Test 2 Child 1
I would like the sorted to look like:

Is this possible with my current structure? If not, how could I change it?

Hey all!
This may sound like a weird one but i couldn't think of a better audience to ask!
If you are a SQL Server DBA (or were, or aspire to be, or play one on T.V., etc.) and the CIO of your 2.something billion $ a year company has offered you an 1 hour forum to sit down and ask him anything you want with the pretense of getting a straight answer, what would you ask?
I know this offers an excellent opportunity to cut up a bit...and do so if you must (keeping us entertained around here is important too!)...but i'm looking for work related, SQL related, direction, strategy, etc, etc type stuff.
Not: 'Whats it like to drive a $250k 'benz to work everyday?' OR 'Can i have .5% of your $2,000,000 bonus this year?'
While i genuinely have those questions in my mind...i'm not looking to waste his $5,000 an hour ass's time - and I only have 1 hour to chew his ear off.

Hi all,
Just can't figure this out. I'll try not to give a long-winded explanation (I hope), let's say this is the table, for example:

RowNumber | Value
1 | 4
2 | 6
3 | 3
4 |10

9 | 2
10 | 6
I want to write a query that creates a column whose values are similar to (ROW_NUMBER -1), and resets each time a value is present.
Using the above example, 6 will be the test value. So, I want to know how many rows it takes till 6 is repeated.
Output would be:
RowNumber | Value | Spread
1 | 4 | 1
2 | 6 | 0
3 | 3 | 1
4 |10 | 2
5 | 6 | 0
6 | 5 | 1
7 | 8 | 2
8 | 8 | 3
9 | 2 | 4
10 | 6 | 0
I think PARTITION BY can be used somewhere, with the ORDER BY on the [RowNumber] - but I'm just not sure on which ranking function to use, and how to reset the Ranking on the number 6 (above example).

I am gonig into interview for a junior developer position. The role involves a lot of SQL based work. Training is on the job, and they know I am new to this, but they want to know what I can do with SQL server by wednesday, and obviosuly I stand a better chance if I can do a reasonable amount by then.I am assuming I can practise with offline databases, so I would like to do that. Also I was wondering if there were any simple example databases I can load up.
I have downloaded and installed the software, and would like to know how to connect and create a test database.
There will be a small test in the interview and the questions are:
1. SQL Management and Data Extraction
For this task you will need to be familiar with database tables, data types and constraints. There will be some administration work using SQL Management Studio along with some T-SQL queries. You will need to show use of the SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements. 2. XSLT
For this task I will be asking you to produce some HTML output displaying the data from an XML file. The concept is similar to ASP.
3. Database Design
You will be given a scenario for a company that requires some database software for the smooth running of their organisation. You will need to plan and design a data structure to accommodate these requirements. You will be allowed to spend as much time on this part of the test as you wish. Key information here is going to be database normalization.
These questions dont make a whole lot of sense to be at the moment, so would appreciate a breakdown in simpler terms.
This job will be a fantastic opportunity for me to get into development, and would appreaciate any help that you guys have to offer, thanks in advance.

Was able to solve my connection issues with my local (test) machine. However, now I've got a much bigger issue on my intranet machine (W2K Server that acts as a domain controller).
When I use essentially the same set up for connecting as I did for the other machine (adjusted for machine name, etc), I get the following message:
Login failed for user '[username]'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I went into the SQL Server Express Config, and discovered under "SQL Server 2005 Services>SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS)>Properties" that this service is set up to login as the Local System built-in account. When I try to change this to Network Service, I get the following popup error message:
Cannot perform this operation on built-in accounts. [0x8007055b]
1) This happens regardless of wheter I stop the service and try to reset, apply and restart, or simply try to change it while it's running
2) I can find nothing on the error code above anywhere on the Web (Google came up EMPTY).
Anyone have any ideas about this one?

I have a query which gives me the following results:

The Column bDebit has either value '0' or value '1' in it ('0' being debit - positive amount, and '1' - credit, negative amount).
I would like it to show the net amount for each account. Therefore in plain English I would like to take all GLCodes that are the same (eg 6843000701) and sum all amounts that have debit value of '0' and subtract all amounts that have debit value '1'. Therefore I would only see '6843000701' code once, and the amount would be '0' becase 600 - 600 = 0.
The current query is:
