Connecting To Analysis Services Using HTTP
Jul 20, 2005my analysis server is hosted on a win2k server with IIS, the hosting page ison another machine. I have followed everything as per MS KB article and Icould not connect through the analysis server using http. i have similarimplementation on my dev machine but the main difference is my OLAP is ontop of winxp. i just wanted to know if i am missing any other setting notspecified on the MS KB article on how to implement OLAP cube through HTTPover win2k operating system.note: i tried connecting to olap using the MDX sample application usingMSOLAP.2 provider and connecting through a simple office web component. Ithink the best way to test the connection is through the MDX sampleapplication that comes with Analysis Server installation.

Configuring A Linked Microsoft Access Database On SQL Server 2005

- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Client Service for Netware installed.
- Access 2000 database in a Novell Directory Services (NDS) Environment
- SQL Server service running under local Administrator account.
Linked server configured as follow:
Linked server: MyDB
Provider: Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider
Product name: Access 2000
Data Source: UNC path to my Access database
Security: Admin with no password (default Access behaviour)
I can connect to my access database by following the next steps:
- Open Management studio on the SQL Server itself (where I'm logged in as Administrator)
- Connect using Windows Authentication (Administrator)
- Create a new query, run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'MyDB'
This will return all the tables from the Access database.
I can also make a view pointing to MyDB...MyTable.
Enough prove to me It can work....
So far so good
But now the tricky part.
When I login as 'sa', I can't connect and will receive the following message:
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "MyDB" returned message "'Full UNC to my access database' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 41Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "MyDB".
(In real life I want to connect to my SQL 2005 Server from a ASP.NET (2.0) application using SQL authentication, but as long as I can't get the above working this is not important for now)

I am looking for a solution to the problem named Table was skipped, or export failed. Here's the story:
I have a desktop with Vista Ultimate x64 and Office 2007. I want to export a database from Access MDB (about 2Gb, 110 tables) to SQL Server Express Express (Advanced). The simple solution > upsize wizard.
- create new database
- server name, used trusted connection, some database name
- I select all tables
- I unselect table's attributes
- create new Access server/client application
and every time I have Table was skipped, or export failed. The same thing happens when I create new MDB with one table (some random values)!
The strange thing that on laptop with XP + SQL Sever 2005 Express (Simple) and Access XP upsizing the same database works fine!'
one other issues of a rookie:
I wanted to access a database (randomly created) on Vista with the Access on my laptop. Both PCs are in the same network I can ping both, but when I try to connect to IP_desktopSQLEXPRESS Access posts connection error. Why?
P.S.
When installing SQL Server on Vista I have only a problem with IIS and ASP.NET, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Use Cubes From Analysis Services 2005 To Analysis Services 2000

I have some questions about SQL Servers 2000 and 2005 compatibility.
In my configuration I have to use both servers.
The cubes are stocked in 2005 server.
May I transfer from 2005 to 2000 Analysis Services the cubes?
If yes, what is the procedure? The result of migration is the same in the two different versions?
If not, how can I solve this problem?

I've tried to install all features in the SQL Server 2005 to run on Windows Vista. The Reporting Services failed to install. I think it is because of the IIS 7.0 that 's not recognised by SQL Server.
Is there anyone who have had the same problem and is there anyone who have a suggestion to solve this problem?
Unable To Connect To Analysis Service Using HTTP On A Different Server

This one has really stumped me! I set up HTTP to connect to an Analysis Services cube within an ASP .NEt application. On inititial setup it worked well and I was able to connect and view the data in my ASP application.
However, for NO reason that I can see it is now coming up with the following error:
Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix it but can't get it to work. I have even gone through the technet document titled "Resolving Common Connectivity Issues in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Connectivity Scenarios" but it hasn't helped.
I am using SQL Server (Analysis Services) 2005 and ASP .NET 2.0. The application is developed in VS 2005.
I'm at a loss...can you help?

I have installed reporting services for 64 bit SQL and I am having a problem configuring it correctly so that I can access the reports manager on http://localhost/reports.
I have studied various SQL server 2005 bibles and looked at information on the microsoft support site but nothing seems to be helping me.
I get the impression that it could be a problem with the IIS server.
Can anyone give me a complete run down on how to set up and configure the reporting services so that it will actually work. Every step of the way please.

In Sharepoint Central Administration
Manage Reporting Service Integratio i have selected the URL and "Trusted Account" as my web applications use "Windows Integration - NTLM".
All services, DB access everything running under one domain user account.
I am logged into sharepoint with same account. When clieck on set server defaults i get following error
An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
Same error when i try to add a report to a sharepoint webapplication
The domain account is part of "Farm Administration", "site colletion administrato" and local administrator also on both servers.
Can someone let me know how to fix this.
Vista + SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 Authentification Woes
Apr 22, 2007Hey guys, I'm creating an ASP.Net 2.0 Web app with VB in the code behind files. I've created a few reports in Business Intelligence Dev Studio that I've deployed to a Windows 2003 Server that has SQL Server 2005 & Reporting Services 2005 on it. Last night I ran into a problem as I tested code on my laptop. And after about 3 hours I have come to the conclusion that it's the way Vista authenticates or its some kind of bug.
When I go to set the report parameters I get an error about invalid credentials and get a HTTP 401 unauthorized. I googled and searched on the forums, however it didn't make sense to me why it was working before now not working. No one was signed on AIM to test to see if it was a specific computer issue, so I decided to try and code a workaround.
I set ShowCredentialsPromt to True and I never got a prompt for credentials when the parameters were attempted to be set. I just got the error. I'm not on my laptop right now, but I will include the exact verbiage of the error message.
i have read lots of posts regarding this by my question is why does the same code not work on Vista than XP? Is that the deciding factor of my issue? I'll get some friends with Vista to test out the site and see if they get the error as well. Any insight?

While installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on Windows Vista Ultimate
the setup alerts me "there are known compatibility problems, please
install SP2 after this". So ok, all went nice and installed without error.
IIS 7 installed fully, so all green in setup display.
(But after installation i do not see any service which begins with SQL***...)
At the end, the setup wanted to start the administration Tool.
Ok, but my name was not listed, so i could not add me to the permitted users.
I can not use any tool, because i have no rights.
Some Ideas?

I have a complex scenario , so first I want to ask out the feasibility of it . I think its better if I state the scenario and some one on this forum reply to it , I need to build an application (e.g credit card application , Loan Application etc ) that requires some approval from expert , what I firstly want is that I apply datamining on this data so that next time when I enter the data the result (approval or reject ) should be given by datamining tool , this I gather is poosible by using Analysis Services in SQL 2005 , but I also want the bases of that decision ( I mean the rules/some thing else that the Datamining created agaisnt the data entered ) , So can any one do any help on this , you can also reach me at razi_rais@yahoo.com . its preety much urgent so your prompt response is higly appreciated.

I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".
I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.

Display Analysis Services Server-Based Formatting In RS 2005 Report
Jul 18, 2007I'm looking for a new way to publish reports based on OLAP data and was very disappointed to find that Reporting Services does not natively support displaying MDX query results in a matrix. While it is possible to assign an MDX query to the matrix control in Reporting Services, the two main problems are that the columns of the query must be measures (not dimensions), and it does not support display of server based formatting (fore color, back color, and font flags).
Does anyone know of any custom control that properly deals with Analysis Services data?

HTTP Endpoints On Vista

I'm looking into hosting SQL Server endpoints on Vista. Unfortunately they don't work nicely because, as far as I know, they require http.sys which is part of Windows Server 2003. Hence, I can create my endpoint but i can't browse to it over http.
So, siple question (not so simple answer) how can I access SQL Server endpoints on Vista?

Analysis Services Admin Access To One Database Only
Jul 5, 2006On a given Analysis Server the machine level OLAP Administrators group controls which users have admin access to AS Databases and Cubes on that machine. From everything I have read, if you are in the OLAP Administrators group you have full access to administer ALL the databases and cubes.
We have a need to create a OLAP database and grant a few users (a role) full admin access to create and maintain datasouces and cubes within that database but NOT allow them admin access to the other existing databases and cubes on the server. This seems like such a common requirement. Has anyones else encountered and resolved this issue.

Analysis :: Power BI Analysis Services Connector - Remote Server Returned Error
Mar 5, 2015I have, a SSAS 2012 tabular instance with SP2, there is a database on the instance with a read role with everyone assigned permissions. When configuring the Power BI analysis services connector, at the point where you enter Friendly Name, Description and Friendly error message, when you click next I receive the error "The remote server returned an error (403)." I've tested connecting to the database from Excel on a desktop and connect fine.I don't use a "onmicrosoft" account so don't have that problem to deal with.
We use Power BI Pro with our Office 365. As far as I can tell that part is working ok as I pass that stage of the configuration with a message saying connected to Power BI.The connector is installed on the same server as tabular services, its a Win2012 Standard server. The tabular instance is running a domain account that is the admin account for the instance (this is a dev environment) that account is what I've used in the connector configuration. It's also a local admin account. There is no gateway installed on the server.
Analysis Services 2005 Database Processing Fails When Run From Integration Services
Oct 11, 2007Hello, I have a problem when trying to fully process an SSAS database using Integration Services "Analysis Services Processing Task" task. I have 2 of these tasks which are responsible for processing the Dimensions then the Cubes. When I run the package either via the BIDS environment or on the local server from the Integration Services engine, I will get an error after about 20 minutes stating:
"Error: Memory Error: Allocation failure. Not enough storage is available to process this command""Error: Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the <cube name> cube from the file \?D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2OLAPDataMyWarehouse<cube file>.xml"
The cube name is not specific, it will fail and any of my cubes could be in the error log
If I fully process the AS database using the AS engine (logon to local AS server, right-click AS database and click Process), I get no errors at all, it processes and completes fine. The processing options are identical when I run in AS or via the SSIS "Analysis Services Processing Task" task.
I've searched quite a lot online but no joy, the information I have gleaned from various sites does not directly link SSIS with SSAS processing problems.
When either the AS processing starts via SSAS or SSIS the memory usage of MSMDSRV.exe increases to around 1.4 / 1.5 GB but never goes to 2GB ever, even when the error appears.
I've done the following with no effect.
" Have run via AS and works fine
" No specific cube it fails on
" Have created a Dimension only package, same problem
" Changed the maxmemorylimit
" Changed the connections to localhost
" Memory DOES NOT max out on server
Server Specs:
Windows Server 2003 Standard + Service Pack 2
4GM ram, 2GB paging file
SQL Server 2005 + Service Pack 2
Can anyone help?

I'm trying to create reports in RS2005 using AS2000 as my data source. I understand that if I use RS2005 on AS2000, I wont be able to enjoy the OLAP based parameters as in using AS2005. Does anyone know an easy way to easily use Parameters in RS2005 while still using AS2000?

i have a small problem with the data sources in the reporting services, maybe you can clarify the situation... I have a MS CRM 3 solution with the reporting services 2005 installed. From an other vendor we have a arcplan solution on the 2000 analysis services. I would like to get access from the 2005 reporting services to the 2000 cube. Is this possible? Ive read that the SSMS cant connect to the 2000 cubes. Can i connect from the reporting services??

May 14, 2007I have SQL 2005 SP1 already installed and I am trying simply to add Analysis Services in without screwing anything up.
I re-run setup from the original CD, but then I receive the following warning:
To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.
Can I safely continue with the installation and just check Analysis Services since it is just a warning? And after the install re-run SQL 2005 SP1 or is there a way to add this from the SP1 installation files, please help.
