Configuring Ole Db Provider For Indexing Service

Jun 6, 2007

Hi:

Am trying to access a Indexing Services catalog from SSIS. Problem is configuring the Data Connection.

I chose New Connection, Provider=Microsoft OleDB provider for Indexing Services.

Then I am not quite sure what to fill in for:

A. Server or File Name (I tried the IP address, the machine name, catalog name)

B. Location(tried catalog Name, ip address, machine name)

The Log On to Server frame is disabled.

Test Connection succeeds, but trying to use a Table or a Query does not work out.

How do I configure the Connection?

TIA

Kar

SAPParameter -- Configuring SSRS To Use .NET Data Provider For SAP

Apr 2, 2006

In the MSDN white paper "Microsoft .NET Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite", on page 2, it shows an example of calling a RFC with a variable. Specifically, it states "To execute this statement, you must create a SAPParameter object with the name @var1, specify its value, and add the new object to the SAPCommand object corresponding to the query." How do I create a SAPParameter object?

Problem Configuring Reporting Service

May 29, 2007

Hey there,

im having a problem that a few people seemed to have had already. The problem is again related to the Web Service Identity.

Windows Server 2000, IIS 5.0, SQL Server Express 2005 Adv, and Microsoft.Net 2.0

after installing SQL Server Express 2005 when i launch the Reporting Service Configuration it could not connect to the Server as the Reporting Service was not running.

In order to get the Reporting Service running i had to modify the rsreportserver.config file in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServer directory. Here i modified the added the following

<WebServiceAccount>IWAM_SKYREV</WebServiceAccount>

this was due to no SKYREVASPNET account being available on the server machine. (based on this article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/911846)

Once i changed this i could now get the Reporting Service running and access the configuration tool.

So now we come to my current problem. In the Web Service Identity it shows an exclamation. Here the ASP.net as SKYREVASPNET and when i attempt to apply this i get the following error:

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: The account name is not valid. Specify an account in the form domainalias.

at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

Any one have any ideas for me...

Windows Indexing Service

Jul 24, 2007

Greetings. I'm wondering if y'all typically turn off filesystem indexing (IE: uncheck "Allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching") on the drives that hold your ldf and mdf files? Do any mssql services depend on this functionality?

Full-Text Indexing And Service Packs

May 3, 2004

I have SQL Server 7.0 installed in a Fail-over cluster and currently, Full-text indexing is not installed, since our full-text index resides on a different physical server. In an attempt to consolidate our servers I am looking at installing full-text indexing on our cluster. I understand that there will probably be issues getting the Full-text indexing service to fail-over, but I'm not too concerned with that.

What I am concerned with, is, will I need to re-install the latest SQL Server 7.0 service pack? Does anyone know of any security holes with an un-patched version of the full-text indexing service?

Any advice on this situation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Query To Linked Indexing Service Returns Nothing When Logged In Through SQL Authentication

Nov 7, 2006

I am struggling to get my linked indexing service to return something when I query it. The thing is, when I use Management Studio and log in through Integrated Windows authentication I have no problems. However, when logging in through a test account that only exists in SQL server I get nothing returned. Some observations:
1. Changing the test account to have sa priveliges changes nothing
2. The test account has db_owner role on source db
3. I have tried to create a login using
sp_addlinkedsrvlogin FTIndexWeb, true, 'SomeLogin' but that didn't work. I also tried to do this manually in Mgt Studio.
4. I did not find any authentication related stuff in the management console of my pc in or near the Indexing Service. I'm not sure if my system imposes any security restraints that are invisible to me.
5. My query is
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(DNN4_BF_DMX, 'SELECT Path, Rank FROM SCOPE() WHERE FREETEXT(Contents, ''"Confidential"'')')
6. My setup: Win XP (SP 2), SQL SRV 2005 Express, Mgt Studio Express (SP1), (if relevant) .net frameworks 1.1/2.0.

I need to tell my customers how to get this going reliably and now I feel unsure whether this is at all possible. Anyone abe to shine some light on this?

Thanks,
Peter

The Data Provider Or Other Service Returned An E_FAIL Status!?!?! WT-???

Oct 24, 2006

I'm running sql server ver 7.0 SP4.I have an access project (.adp) that runs a view which is nothing morethan a select statement. Access locks up solid when I try to run thisquery - with NO error messages what-so-ever.If I sign onto the server, and run the view from enterprise manager - Iget:"the data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status" !?!?!There is NO ERROR number, or further explanation of the message!!Now - this query DID work last week - all of a sudden I get this error- I've:1) repaired / compacted this database2) rebooted the server3) spent several hours searching websites & groups for an explanationa) I don't care how useless some people think enterprise manager is -at least it gave me SOME kind of error; where access just locks up!b) There are no issues with null values, or problem date fieldsanywhere in these tables.4) tried MANY variations on the query, and am now more confused thanever.5) I've RUN THIS QUERY IN AN ACCESS MDB WITH LINKS TO THE SQL SERVER -AND IT WORKS!?!?!?!?The query I'm using follows; if I remove ONE field from the selectstatement - this query RUNS!!!It doesn't matter what field I remove! It's as if, I can only have somany fields in the select statement!?!?!?This is clearly ridiculous since the query ran fine last week with thesame number of fields, not thatthat should have anything to do with this, as sql shouldn't care howmany fields I request.I'm not actually requesting any fields in the last table - but if Iremove this table it works!? If I leave this table, and select fieldsfrom it, but remove another table - again it works! So my questions:1) What [T-] is going on here?2) Why would an mdb be able to run a query that an adp can not!?!?3) When will microsoft ever release a product that provides usefulerror messages?I really don't expect an answer to #3, because I know the answer isNEVER - microsoft doesn't want to make solving problems easy. Here's the query I'm using:SELECT codes.proj_id, answers.report_date,answers.release_date, answers.notes,answers.answer_date, answers.answer_person,answers.answer, answers.answer_status,answers.answer_person2, codes.cust_idFROM dbo.codes LEFT OUTER JOINdbo.demos ONdbo.codes.code = dbo.demos.code LEFT OUTER JOINdbo.answers ON dbo.codes.code = dbo.answers.codeany help appreciated - TIABob

SQL 'Server' Or 'Local' Database For Uploading To Hosting Service Provider

Mar 23, 2007

Hi, I'm developing a website using VWD 2005 Express, which needs a Membership system and a products database. Using the VWD inherent Web Site Administration tool makes the membership set up easy but by default it creates a 'Local' SQL database in a folder named 'Apps_Data' in the VWD project. My question is: considering I will need to upload my web site to a Hosting Service, would it be better to change the default so that the membership systems, and the product database I need, are created in an SQL 'Server' database instead of a 'Local' database?
The hosting service I am considering using is having a bit of a problem understanding this question, I hope it makes sense to someone or am I asking a stupid question?

Sean.

myConnection.Open();

myConnection.Close();

But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

Provider: Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40 - Could Not Open A Connection To SQL Server

May 20, 2008

hi all

I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.

I have had to rebuild my computer.

This is what I did

XP machine
using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
using Windows Authentication
NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)

straight default install all the way

unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer)
I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right

so ended up unistalling then - did the following:

Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install
failed on alter Counter Registry key error
fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen)
restarted
Went to Windows Update
check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok
Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet
Disk 2 and setup .exe

All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.

But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:

connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc
connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports
I then can deploy up to - NZ6
open NZ6
eports
report is there fine - but just errors

some simple little tick that I have not done!!

I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here.
I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.

cheers
jewel
