Confused As To Which SQL Server Version The Express Languages Work With
Apr 6, 2006
I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed on my PC. I also have the Express Editions of VB and C# installed. Is there any purpose served in my installing SQL Express, also?
I've read comments that the Express languages can only connect to SQL Express databases and not SQL Server 2005 databases; however, I'm not sure how that is enforced. The 'connect to database' wizard does seem to be different in the Express IDE than it is in Visual Studio.
I've read other Express language references that say that they can only connect to SQL Server databases via something called User Instances; however, it's not clear to me if that infers that only SQL Express supports User Instances.
Regarding User Instances, it's not clear to me whether this technology is for single-user (i.e., exclusive) access or not. What scenarios are User Instances good for?
I have a view that retrieves the details for sys.messages in SQL Server Express and noticed that the language ID is 1033 (U.S. English). I will need French and Portuguese, and understand that these are standard. Is there a set of DDL Scripts that will install the sys.messages for these languages?
This is an insert statement i'm trying to run. I want it to only insert this recird if the corresponding EMPLOY_REF exists in the EMPLOYEE table. Heres my statement:
INSERT INTO SALHISTY(EMPLOY_REF, SALARY, SAL_REASON, SAL_DATE) VALUES ('8971','175000.0000','ANNRV','2007-04-01 00:00:00.000') WHERE '8971' IN (SELECT EMPLOY_REF FROM EMPLOYEE)
This is the error message i'm getting.
Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 3 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'WHERE'.
I've downloaded SQL Server Express with Advanced Services from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ and installed all components. When I try to create a full-text catalog, I get the following message:
No full-text supported languages found.
select * from sys.fulltext_languages returns no lines.
How can neutral, English or maybe Hungarian word breakers be installed?
Sorry if this is going over old ground. I am trying to establish which version of SQL Express I have (Sounds daft I know!)
From Server Management app it tells me the following:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 9.00.2047.00 Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.085.1117.00 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.42 Operating System 5.1.2600
I created an ASP application using Web Developer Express and SQL Server Express on my workstation. Everything works great. I copied the application and all files to my intranet server which is a 2003 server running Sharepoint. When I attempt to run the application from the server.Access to the ADO.net Managed Provider 'SqlClientFactory' was denied in the data source with ID 'SqlDataSource' because of security settingsIs there something in the web config that I must change or settings on the server that must be changed for the application to run?
When I installed VS 2005, it installed the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express that ships with Visual Studio 2005 installer media.
How can apply SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to update this existing instance?
Currently, if I run this query:
SELECT @@version
I get the following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
After applying SP1, I should get 9.00.2047.00.
Should I just go to this link and download & install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1:
at the moment I have the following problem: We have installed a version of the MSDE 2000 Sp3 with our software since 2005. Now we install SQL Server Express 2005 in order to use the latest version and to be compatible with Vista. We have never had any problems with the MSDE, so it was no problem that we installed the german version (by mistake) because there never was any output at installation time. When we now upgrade the existing MSDE installing the new version of our software, there are often problems and there are error messages, unfortunately in german, which cannot be read by most of our international users.
The problem is, that there seems to be no possibility to upgrade the existing (german) MSDE with the english version of SQL Server Express 2005. My question is, if it is possible to upgrade the german MSDE to the english SQL Server 2005 to enable our international users to read the error messages at installation time in english?
I have a PC running the 64 bit version of vista home premium (will be soon upgrading to ultimate).
On the download page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-au/express/bb410792.aspx for SQL Server Express under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 it mentions at the bottom of the page (referred by * & **) that there is a 64 bit install version available for both SQL Server & management Studio.
However, under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2, there is no * or **. As far as I can tell, the Advanced services has Reporting Services as well.
So, what I am wondering is, can I specifically download the 64 bit versions of SQL server express & management studio and as well, download just the reporting services part of Advanced Services?
While upgrading a client over PCAnywhere in another state, I inadvertantly installed
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services
I have had an absolute nightmare with SQL 2005 uninstalling it from a laptop on my desk, so you can understand why I don't want to try uninstalling the Advanced Services version on a computer over PCAnywhere.
However, the remote computer does not have IIS on it, which prompts a warning form Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services.
So, the simple question is, if the program works Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition then I assume it will work with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services, since it doesn't use any advance services.
SQL Server 2005 full version is installed on a server computer. I installed MS VS 2005 Express edition on the server. As VS 2005 Express edition can only access to SQL Server 2005 Express edition, so a SQL Server 2005 Express edition has to be installed on the server. I wonder if both SQL Server 2005 full version and Express edition can be installed in the same computer.
I am trying to download SQL Server Express Edition in Germany however the site does not allow me to choose the language of the download. How can I get English version of the software in Germany?
In MSDE sql server 2000 dtsrun was available to execute the dts packages but now with sql server 2005 express edition integration service is not part of express/workgroup edition and the dtsexec run time is also not available.
i don't know if it was mentioned before, but i solved the issue that Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express won't show the option to create/modify a sql compact database by installing not this Version:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Date: 19.04.2006 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c243a5ae-4bd1-4e3d-94b8-5a0f62bf7796&DisplayLang=en
but this one:
SQL Server Management Studio Express Service Pack 2 €“ CTP-Version Date: 19.12.2006 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ccbda432-8ecf-4c82-bdef-b575eaf07f55&DisplayLang=en
hope this helps.
Nihat
P.S. i'm curious if anybody else had the same issue, caused of using the wrong Version of SSMSe?
Hi, I'm getting ready to deploy an ASP.NET application to a server that does not support SQL Express, but does support MS Access and SQL Server. Is there any easy way to convert my SQL Express code to either Access or regular SQL Server code, without having to change very much code in my application. I really like the integration that SQL Express has with Visual Web Developer, and would like to be able to keep that sort of integration if at all possible. Thanks,Drew
I have a windows 2003 server which has SQL 2005 Express with advanced services installed on it. Then a few weeks back the company purchased SQL server Standard Edition which comes with SQL Server Management Studio (which has more features than SQL Server Management Studio Express currently installed on the server where sql express is running)I have been trying to schedule a maintanance plan on the SQLExpress Instance database from the SQL Server Management Studio that came with the standard version of sql but i have not been able to have all SQL Server Management Studio functionality available when connected to the SQLExpress instance. So is there a way i can connect to the Express Instance from management studio(that comes with the standard edition of sql) and have all its functions available when working with a SQL express database. Or i must upgrade the express database?
Our application installation setup needs to be able to detect:
Is SQL Server 2005 Express Installed?
If false, run the SP2 Installation Is SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Express SP1 Installed?
If false, run the SP2 Installation with Update Switch Is SQL Server 2005 (not Express) Installed
If true, abort installation with a mesage.
Can you direct me to some documentation about testing for these environments or just if someone has some scripts that will run in InstallShield, that would be great.
ALSO, can you direct me to information about using the command line update switch for the Express SP2 Installer?

Hi all, Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup. This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error: SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. I am confused and lost in this installation problem. Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC? Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express? Please help and advise. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I have Vista Ultimate installed and within Vista .NET Framework 3.0 is installed as a part of the operating system so I can't remove 3.0 Now for MS SQL Server 2005 Express I need .NET Framework 2.0 and the SQL Server 2005 doesn't work with .NET Framework 3.0 Can't install 2.0, get the message that 3.0 is already installed. Is there another version of SQL Server that works with .NET Framework 3.0 and runs under Vista Ultimate? Please help me!!
By doing this my web.config automatically configured itself to create a database in my app_data folder and also filled in all the table rows as necessary. Then I moved the code to my sql server running SQL Server 2005 Standard and found out that it won't generate that database in either the app_data folder or the SQL Server Data directory. I've gotten so desperate to get this database created that I've (temporarily) given "Everyone" full permissions to both directories. I then double checked that my named pipes to that server were enabled, and then also tried moving my database from my working sql express app from a different computer to the server. I still cannot get it to work.
If I have no database in the folders that worked on sql express i get this error:
"SQLExpress database file auto-creation error: The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express ..."
If I have a database in the folder it says it can't communicate with it or can't find it.
We are new to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. We are going to develope a solution for one of our client and we have to decide on which database to use for the solution. Client wanted to have a low cost solution. Thus we were not in a position to push them for SQL Sever 2000.
In the process, we also thought of having MySQL as one of the option. Another option we have is to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
We wanted to know if SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can be used with Visual Studion 2003 (Ver 1.1) or it can only be used with Visual Studio 2005 (Ver 2.0)?
I have a database which was created in a beta release of SQL Server Express. It was also create when I had the .Net Framework 2.0 Beta installed.
Since then, I have installed .Net Framework 2.0 (Current Release) because that is what was required for MS SQL Server Management Studio Express.
When I try to connect to the DB now it says Cannot connect to server.
I also have the mdf/ldf files. When I try to attach them on another computer running the latest version of SQL Server Express it says:
Database 'Name' connot be upgraded because its non-release version (587) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this vertion of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database....
Any ideas how i can get the mdf/ldf files converted over? Or how I can attach the the ealier version of sql server express?? thanks.
After opening the Results Pane (though a query or open table); I frequently get the below message.
Is there any way to change the settings so the results pane will stay active for a long length of time?
Message
SQL Server Enterprise Manager
_______________________
Some time ago, you retrieved data from the database with the query or view whose name is XXXX. The returned rows appear in the Results Pane and the database continues to retain the result set in its local memory; which consumes valuable server resources. Because you have not recently used the Results pane, it will be AUTOMATICALLY CLEARED IN ONE MINUTE. The will empty the results pane, discard unsaved changes, and free resources on the database server. Then if you want to REESTABLISH the result set, you can rerun the query or view.
DO YOU WANT TO PROLONG YOUR WORK WITH THE RESULTS PANE AND CONTINUE TO CONSUME RESOURCES ON THE DATABASE SERVER?
I want this to default to Yes, without this message comming up and if I don't click yes fast enough, my results are gone. I kinow the work arounds, but how can I default this to Yes or so this message stops displaying.

Maybe that's not a fatal error, but the SQLExpress service does not get installed.
