Connect To Remote SQL Server From Local Web App

I am able to connect to this server through my local SQL Management Studio, however, my local ASP.NET 2.0 web application cannot connect. I get the error below. Error:
Failed to connect to database: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
The hosting providr claims that the SQL Server configuration settings are as they should be as fars as TCP/IP and Named Pipes are concerned. Does anyone know what might be going on?
Can't Connect To Remote Server, My App Works In Local Only???

i've developed a website using VB.NET, and SQL SERVER 2K, in my dev environment works properly (SQL Server and WEB SERVER are in the same machine).
When i put everything in the target machine, where the webserver is but not the sql, i get the following error:
Sql SErver does not exist or access denied
I've tried so many ways to do this, ODBC, ADO.NET, OLEDB.....and everything ends in the same error.
Also if i try to connect with ODBC (from odbc manager) it seems to work (test connection succesfull), but in asp.net nothing works.
I've tried to access the server with:
INSTANCE_NAME
SERVER_NAMEINSTANCE_NAME
IP,PORT
I think (they are checking this), that the auth mode is set to MIXED MODE.
Any idea to save my life?? ;)

Local Management Studio Cannot Connect To Remote IS
Feb 20, 2006I am not able to connect my local SQL Server Management Studio to a remote server hosting our Integration Services. I get the infamous "Access Denied". I have walked through Kirk Haselden's howto at:

MSSQL 2000 - Cant Connect To DB From Remote Computer
Jun 21, 2006Please bare with me as I do not have much knowledge in this area with MSSQL.
I have installed MSSQL 2000 Developer and I have setup a database which I am able to connect to and work fine with from the actual server MSSQL is installed on.
The problem comes in when i try to connect to that same database from a different remote server. It will not connect to the DB from this remote server but I know all the connection information is correct so its something on the MSSQL DB server causing this and not on this remote server.
Someone I know has had this problem and has fixed it but they wont tell me how. All I know is they said something about manually opening the ports on the MSSQL server and he also said when you set it to dynamicly determine the port that MSSQL is listening on it errored out. however if you set it staticly to 1433 it worked fine.
Ive also installed SP4 in attempt to fix this but no luck with that either. And I can also get the same exact remote server to connect to completely different DB server without issues.
If anyone can please help walk me through this I would be greatly appreciate and I am also willing to pay some money if it will make my life easier.
Bcp Cannot Connect Via Local Connection, But Can Using Remote Connection?
May 19, 2008Hi. I'm (very) new to SQL Server. I have run into what seems to be a very common problem, judging by the number of Google hits, but it's not actually in the FAQs here, as far as I can see.
Situation
I installed SQL Server Express with Advanced Services 2005 on my Windows XP Pro laptop, using (with one exception) the default install. The exception was to put the data files on a separate partition (D: ) where I have more free space.
SQL Server Management Studio Express connects happily, and I set up a single data import table.
Issue: bcp Fails to connect to default local instance
I initially tried bcp in output mode, prior to working in earnest on importing my data. However the command line-
bcp MyDatabaseName.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c
Fails with the error-
Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].
As I understand it, the local instance of SSE is the default, and should use a local (shared memory?) connection. This seems to work for Management Studion Express, but not bcp.
While investigating this problem, I tried enabling remote connections (all types) through the Surface Area Configuration wizard, and found that remote connections using either of:
bcp eSpacePh1.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c -S localhostsqlexpress
bcp eSpacePh1.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c -S mycomputernamesqlexpress
both work ok.
Extra Info
When starting Management Studio Express, it says something like "Configuring environment for the first time". However it says this every time it is started, not just the first run after installation, does this indicate some configuration data is not being successfully stored?

Not Able To Connect To The Local Database With (local) As Server Name
Jun 7, 2006I am facing a problem in connecting to the local database with server name as (local).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my machine. When I try to connect to the SQL server with the server name as SUNILKUMAR I am able to connect but when I try to connect to the same server with the server name as (local) I am not able to connect. SUNILKUMAR is my machine name and SQL server is running locally.
if anyone can help me what is the problem in this case it is highly appriciated.

I spent the last two days trying to find an application that can export a mySQL database into msSQL syntax so that I can then use that to just create my msSQL database. I have had no such luck, though I could find a bunch to do msSQL to mySQL.
Please let me know if anyone has one or knows of one that works because I really do not want to hand port my 70 table database from mySQL to msSQL

the database came from a site that was in php and of course using mysql, the database has all the users logon information and other information in there personal profile.

Oct 21, 2007Hi, I've been coding in C#/ASP.NET for a little while now, but I've only ever used MS SQL.I'm starting a new project at work soon, and our host provides free MySQL databases but charges for MS SQL databases.
What are the pros/cons for each of these databases, and how much conversion would be required in an existing C#/ASP.NET application if I wanted to change from MS SQL to MySQL? I assume the syntax/commands to operate a C# app with MS SQL are different to the ones required to communicate with a MySQL database?
I'll probably stick with MS SQL because it's what I know, but I'd like to get familiar with MySQL as it might come in handy one day.Thanks, any information is greatly appreciated.

Help Converting From From MySql To MSSql

I'm trying to use sql to create a db, but the file the guy gave me is MySql. I tried a few things, and then I asked him to try to migrate it to MSSql for me, but it's still giving me this error:

Nov 4, 2005I'm converting to mssql. I've been using the following statement in a php query with mysql.

This allowed me to select a press and/or certain paper and/or certain ink, etc. Allowed me to select any combination needed to find.
Now when I use this statement I don't get any results. I have the following which works if I select items in all categories, but that isn't always possible. I need a wildcard selection if we don't know or don't care what press it was run on or what paper was run on a press or what ink was used to print, etc

I am looking for a function in MSSQL that performs similar to the LIMIT function in MySQL. Here is the LIMIT function's definition:
The LIMIT clause can be used to constrain the number of rows returned by the SELECT statement. LIMIT takes one or two numeric arguments, which must be integer constants.
With two arguments, the first argument specifies the offset of the first row to return, and the second specifies the maximum number of rows to return. The offset of the initial row is 0 (not 1):
mysql> SELECT * FROM table LIMIT 5,10; # Retrieve rows 6-15
I am aware of TOP and SET ROWCOUNT functions in MSSQL but neither provide the Offset functionality.

I have to port a database from MSSQL to MySQL.
I'm really a newbie with MSSQL and I need some hints on how to do this task.
I received a .bak file which my boss told me that this a backup of the database
I have to port.
Then I installed MSQL 2000 developer edition on my workstation and then started
playing with it.
The problem is that I don't know how to connect to the database... and with what
application do some queries. In mysql I use phpMyAdmin which is really useful.
Is there something similar for SQL server? Or something like sqlplus under Oracle?
Moreover how can I install the .BAK file they sent me on my MSSQL install in order
to recreate the db on my workstation??

Replication From MSSQL To MySQL

My goal is to make from time to time a (one way) replication from MSSQL server (Win2K) to MySQL (Linux, i mean no ODBC here).
Is it possible and how ?
The preferable way is to use the MSSQL's replication features, but I have another idea - a simple (php, perl - no matter) program on the linux machine which will be "cron"-ed to run at the requested time intervals.
What are your recommendings ?

What Is Wrong (MySQL Vs MsSQL)
Jan 28, 2008I have been using MySQL for a long time but because of company policy changes I have started to switch from MySQL to MsSQL
OMG MsSQL is very slow with every thing it does compared to MySQL. I.e updating 300.000+) data in a table with 15 million+ records using 'update' syntax. In MySQL it was done in 4 minutes. In MsSQL it was not done in 20 minutes (and then I stoped it in anger)
I have a script that I have created to give our daily revenue. In MySQL that takes 30 sec to finish. In MsSQL it takes atleast 1.30 minutes.
I have 1,5G of memory and MsSQL uses it all. MySQL uses 200mb at most.
What am I doing wrong. Is it the memory or what can it be? I have indexed the tables in the same way. I really don't know what to do anymore.
Perhaps You can give me some hints

I'm on a team that is developing a site in PHP / MySQL. We've been asked by the client to convert the database over to MSSQL. I've never used MSSQL, but after looking at the syntax available on php.net, there really isn't all that much difference in doing basic queries. I was wondering if any of you MSSQL gurus knew of some major differences between MySQL and MSSQL that I may be overlooking.
Anything, however basic or complex, would be helpful.

MSSQL Import From MySql Problem
Sep 14, 2004I have connected to my mysql db with myodbc. When I start importing I get errors on some varchar variables.
Some of my varchar(255) becomes varchar(-1) when I import. When this happens smssql fails to create table.
