Connecting To IBM DB2 USING SSIS
Jul 18, 2007
We need to connect to an DB2 server using ODBC provider, so we tried with the folowing:
Driver={IBM DB2 ODBC DRIVER};database=FirstDB; hostname=IP address; port=50000;protocol=TCPIP;
But when we try to connect using the above connection string we get teh following error:
"Test Connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ERROR [IM004][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed"
we are not getting wat is the problem. we are able to connect to this DB2 database from the same DB2 server but we are not able to connect to the server from a remote machine.
Thanks in advance.

Let me try to put this down in words...
If I log into the SQL server with my credentials and connect to SSIS through SQL Management Studio, I'm able to execute my test SSIS package successfully.
If I go to my machine and try to connect to SSIS "Integration Services..." I get "Access Denied" message.
If I execute the same package via DTEXECUI, the package errors out also.
My account is member of the group "Security_IT_Data", this group has sysadmin privileges on the SQL Server level.
The account used to run the SSIS Service is part of the Local Admin group on the box and also a sysadmin on the SQL Server.
What am I missing?

Hi,
I am new to using SSIS (after using DTS on SQL Server 2000 for many years).
I am trying for the first time to connect to an Oracle 9.2 database and export data from it into SQL Server 2005.
I used the Microsoft OLE DB Oracle Provider to connect to the Oracle instance. The test connection works fine, but when I try and preview a table or copy data from Oracle I get the error....
The component reported the following errors
Cannot retrieve column code page
Has anyone got any ideas how I fix this?
Many thanks
Pete

Hi Gurus,
I am trying to build a Data Warehouse using SSIS in SQL Server 2005. My source data is in Oracle RDB. Now when I am trying to connect to oracle RDB using the OLE DB Source component, I am getting the following error.
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking componenets were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or late client software installtion.
Provider is unable to funtion until these components are installed.
I did install the Oracle RDB client software .Apparently it looks like Microsoft OLE DB for Oracle supports Oracle 7.3.3 and above. At the same time I tried to use ODBC for Oracle RDB driver from ODBC data sources. But the OLE DB Source Component in SSIS can't recognize ODBC. So now I am stuck on how to load the data from Oracle RDB to SQL Server 2005 staging area.
Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated. Ideally we are looking to port the data directly from Oracle RDB to SQL Server without any intermediate flat files (flat files etc)
Thanks,
SK

I just installed a default instance of SS 2005 and applied the most recent service pack, release date March 5th, SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU.exe.
All services are running as localsystem. When I try to connect to SSIS through Management Studio on the local machine I receive the following error.

Hi:
I have 4 named instances of SQL 2005 running on one of our sales server (dont ask me why I have 4 instances. Its a beefy box btw). All the instances have SSIS Packages (around 6-7 in each instance) saved to the SQL server and not to the file system. The issue is every time i need to look at the packages or export the packages from SSMS I have to edit the MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml and type in the named instance name within the <ServerName></ServerName> tag . I then have to restart my SSIS. I dont see an easier approach to this method.
This is causing me a lot of unnecessary time waste. is there anyway this can be automated where in i can pass the instance name dynamically to the ini file or even more best, can I have all the instance names in the ini file and some how look at the packages in each Instance. I am not sure how having all the instance names in the ini file woud resolve the issue though.
I know I can use BIDS which is much more flexible and a recommended approach but need a solution for looking at SSIS packages through SSMS in all of the 4 instances. I look forward to recommendations from anyone who have better ideas and suggestions.
Thank you
AK

I am trying to connect to a Oracle 9i Server to execute a sql task, but the connection when tested seems to fail with the following error from the Integration Services Project:
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ERROR [NA000][Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
ERROR[IM006][Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
ERROR[0100][Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager] The driver does not support the version of ODBC behavior that the application requested (see SQLSetEnvAttr).
The connection was configured and tested from Oracle's SQLPlus session. Please note that the port that the TNS Server is listening is not the default. Is there somewhere I can specify the port in the SSIS connection manager to resolve the issue.
I have tried OLEDB connection and that does not work either.
Any inputs will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Monisha

In several weeks of effort and research I cannot locate any method to get this to work and need some help. We've loaded the most recent version of the Microsoft OLE DB (Feb 2007) and have located several discussion threads on these and other forums that all point to the same conclusion... you cannot use this to talk to a UDB/DB2 instance on Sun Solaris unless you are pulling a full table. Any custom SQL will not work. So, I'm trying to setup a custom query which in most cases is to determine a date to use in the filter (where clause) and the rest of the query is static. The DataReader source does not support parameters and also appears to not support SQL command from variable. Any thoughts on how to get this to work without having to read the full table and pass the data to subsequent filters within the package???
Thanks

The acutal problem is, when check the properties of the connection manager and provide a provider for oracle, and then provide username and password and click on test connection. I get the following error:
"Test Connection failed because of an error in initializing provider.ORA-06413: Connection not open"

Hello,
I recently joined a company that is having an issue connecting to SQL Server Integration Services on one of their production servers. When trying to connect via management studio, both locally and remotely, they receive the error below. The server is a 64 bit server and is using third party replication (Veritas).
It sort of sounds like the issue described in this knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919224. However, we do not have a problem creating maintenance plans. I'd just give it a shot but its a production server and getting approval to do anything that modifies the registry with the registry replication setup is a pain, so I'd like to determine if there could be another cause first.

Hi,
I am trying to connect to a SQL 6.5 database with VB.NET.
Is this possible, and if so, what kind of connection string is used and what mode of data access (OleDB, ODBC, etc.)
I have had several problems doing this and I am starting to wonder if there is anything special that needs to be done or if it is even possible. Thanks in advance!

I am trying to connect through a wan over TCP/IP to a SQL Server v.6.5 sp5a.
I am not logging into the domain, I am just trying to connect via ODBC. I keep getting an error 1326
which when I look in TechNet or MSDN refers to problems with Named Pipes. I have
TCP/IP configured for port 1433, Named Pipes, and Multiprotocol support all configured on the server.
Should I remove the Named Pipes support, or is that not the problem?

Hey everyone. I'm having some serious problems connecting to my database. I've pretty much bugged my server admin to death and I still can't connect to it. I've tried almost all the programs out there as well as http://www.aspenterprisemanager.com. I've probably spent a good 12 hours on this task (im trying to put MaxWebPortal on my site) and I'm going to ask for help. This is what my admin gave me for the SQL db:
Database Name: S5464_sehs
SQL Server: mssql4.uplinkearth.com
ODBC DSN: S5464_sehs
Username: sehs.us
Password: **********
Would anyone be able to help me to connect to this?

I have installed that free express edition of SQL server 2005 and when i am trying to connect to server from my C#.net application i am not able to do it and the error i am getting is the user is not SQL thrusted user. I am able to connect directly thru SQL server using this userid and password but not thru C#.net application.
I have read online that so many people are having that problem. so is it the problem of swl server Express edition or do i have to make some setting to connect to the application.
Please please please please someone guide me . I am stuck here in the beginning only. I would really appreciate it.

When I look at the connection string it's:
Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\ProcBuilder.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
This works fine on my machine, but when I try to run it on another computer it tells me:
"An error has occurred while
establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server
2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default
settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections."
It should not be trying to connect remotely, it's a local DB. Do I
have to install SQL Express on the machine I'm installing this on for
it to work?

My host sent these instructions, think they will work?
To access your SQL Server you can use your choice of database management software, including Microsoft Access, Visual InterDev, or the SQL Enterprise Manager.
If you are using Microsoft Access or Visual InterDev you will be connecting to the SQL Server via an ODBC connection, which requires you to make a Data Source Name (DSN) on your local computer.
If you have a Microsoft Access database, and you use the Microsoft SQL Upsizing Wizard to export your database into SQL, the Upsizing Wizard will assist you in the process of creating your ODBC connection.
To create a SQL DSN:
1. Log on to your hosting account's control panel at http://sahcinfo.org/admin 2. Click "Database Connectivity."
3. Choose "Create DSN."
4. Choose "Microsoft SQL Driver" from the Type drop-down list.
5. Enter a name for your DSN in the DSN field. It can be anything you want it to be, such as "Orders" or "MyDatabase." The Filename field is not required for SQL.
6. In the SQL IP Address field, enter the SQL Server name.
7. Enter your SQL user name in the SQL User Name field.
8. Click Submit.
To access the SQL Server using the SQL Enterprise Manager:
1. Open your SQL Enterprise Manager software. This is not supplied by Web.com.
2. Right-click on "SQL Server Group", then select "New SQL Server Registration"
3. Once the dialog box is open, fill in the fields. In the server field, type in your SQL Server name.
4. Type in the login information with your username and password.
5. Once all the information is entered click "Register." This will make contact with our SQL Server, and you will be able to add tables, manipulate your information and work on your database as you wish.
Please note that Web.com Technical Support will only troubleshoot connectivity to the SQL database, and cannot support issues with third-party software.
Web.com has also created a SQL 2000 User Guide to walk you through the process of setting up your account and database connections. To view or print it, go to http://64.226.3.32/article.asp?article=14689&p=1001

I'm trying to connect to an SQL server, but I'm unable. It suggests this is because SQL server does not allow remote connections, and points me to the named pipes provider, error 40 Could not open a connection to SQL server.
I am running SQL express service pack 2 under Vista. I am a member of SQL administrators (set during installation).
Under the SQL Server Configuration manager, SQL server and Browser are running, the protocols for sqlexpress and the native client have enabled shared memory, named pipes, and tcp/ip.
I tried removing and creating a new database. Now it sits under the database Engine section of Management Studio Express, with a white circle on the database icon. When I try to connect to this database, using either windows authentication or sql server authentication, it fails.
What else is there to try? If there was a troubleshooting guide, that would be helpful.

Hey, all. I've mainly worked with MySQL databases before. I'm working on an (old) ASP page that uses this connection string:strConnect = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=SQL1.MYDBSERVER.NET; Initial Catalog=...; User ID=...; Password=..."
It works fine on the production server, but the local copy fails if I try to access the Products page (which uses the database), with this error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80004005)[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied./html/products.asp, line 19Similarly, if I plug the connection info into Tools/Connect to Database in Visual Studio, I get: Connection failed:SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need more info from the hosting provider to connect remotely? Or is the database not accepting remote connections at all? Thanks in advance for your help!
