Connecting To SQL Express On A Hosted Site

Dec 28, 2005

Folks.

I just moved my domain to GoDaddy.com.  When I run my website locally, everything works fine.

When I ftp it to my server space on GoDaddy.com, I get a "remote connection" error.  Does anyone have an example of a connection string I should be using to connect while on the server?

Thanks!

Connecting To Hosted / Remote Database

Mar 18, 2006

Hello,

I would like to know whether is it possible to administer a database on a hosted site - i.e inserting some lines, executing a query. I normally access the files via ftp connection. And so far the only way I figured I can mess around with the database is to download it and change it on my desktop PC.

Thank You.

Problem Connecting To Remote Site With Enterprise Manager

Apr 22, 2004

Hi All,

Recently had to rebuild our SQLServer installation from scratch! major pain!! We had a remote server running a replicated version of the internal database system for the website. We also have a SQL DB hosted with a new ISP which is in test mode. All managed via EM.

Re-installed software, upgaded tp SP3, new MDAC. Set up the references for the two external DB's with the Client Network Utility. In EM set up a connection to DB on the new ISP, works perfectly, tried on the old DB and get 'SQL Server is not running or access denied' error message.

I confirmed the server is running, as its our live site. Cant connect using Query Analyser. I can ping the adress successfully. I've created new user logings that mach on both machines/servers, still no luck!

Can anyone suggest what the problem is/might be or how to fix... I'm flat out of ideas!

Major THANKS! for any gems...

Problem Deploying SQL Express Database To Hosted Environment

Nov 2, 2007

I have a web app that uses two SQL Express databases. One of the databases is the membership database. I am deploying the app to a hosted environment. Here is my connection string:

<add name="Akamojo_APSNETDB" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress; AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|Akamojo_ASPNETDB.mdf; Initial Catalog=Akamojo_ASPNETDB; Integrated Security=true; User Instance=true"/>

Here is the error that I get:

Could not open new database 'Akamojo_ASPNETDB'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.
Cannot attach the file 'e:hostingmemberakamojoTournamentLogApp_DataAkamojo_ASPNETDB.mdf' as database 'Akamojo_ASPNETDB'.
File activation failure. The physical file name "c:inetpubwwwrootTournamentLogApp_DataAkamojo_ASPNETDB_log.LDF" may be incorrect.
The log cannot be rebuilt when the primary file is read-only.

The mdf file is not read only. In the hosted environment the database is on the E drive. In my dev environment the database is on the C drive. From the error message, it appears that when it tries to build the log file it is trying to build it on the C drive in a path that doesn't exist in the hosted environment.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Error Connecting To Localhost Site To View SQL Server Mobile Agent On Device

Feb 9, 2007

I have set up a locahost site in IIS using the "Configure Web Synchronization Wizard". One of the first test I was asked to do was to open a broweser and browse to http://localhost/MobileTest/sqlcesa30.dll

If all is well I should get a web page with the following line:

SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0

But unfortunately I get an error stating :
"The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance."

I checekd the Event log and found this error related the IIS launch process on my machine.

DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon .IWAM_Rataq in order to run the server:

where Rataq is the name of my machine. Could my IWAM_Rataq account be corrupted, my other sites on the machine work.

Infact if i put in a Test.htm page in the virtual directory MobileTest I am able to browse to the page.

Can the Account be re-set? is there another problem that I am not aware of. I have Norton Internet 2006 running could that be the reason? Could Norton be blocking the dll from loading? But the event log states it is a Account error.

Any ideas why this might occur? any help is always appreciated

Multi Site Using SQL Express 2005

Oct 21, 2006

Hi,
I am writing Stock inventory and POS application.
POS will be used at multiple branches to collect sales, whereby Stock Inventory will be used in HQ for product info maintenance, stock in and etc.

I need to send all of the branch sales records back to HQ and send updated product info such as cost to branches everyday (could be multiple times per day).

I am thinking to use SQL Server Express 2005 at branches and SQL Server 2005 standard at HQ.

Do you think it is workable? What is the mechanism I can use to "transfer" these data?

Please advice.

Thank you

SQL Express Database In Published Web Site

Mar 26, 2007

I have been working with Visual Studio 2005 and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit. All is well and working. My problem is that after the database is updated (as in uploading photos and album creation) and the original web site is edited and republished, the web site database is overwritten and all the work is lost. What is the proceedure to either copy the web database to the development site on my computer so updates will not be lost, or a method of publishing that will not loose the up to date content on the web server? I would much prefer to be able to copy the database to my development computer as adding tables to the database is something that needs to be done. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Express 2005: How To Makes Changes Without Stopping The Web Site?

Jan 24, 2008

Are there any way I can make changes to my database without stopping the web site? I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express for my web shop. And each time I have to add or change a table or Stored Procedure I have to stop the site. What I do is to stop the web site (in IIS), restart the IIS and then open the database in the SQL Server 2005 Express Management tool. If I don't "release" the file first I get an error when I try to open the database file in the Management tool. But there must be a better way to do things? I also would like to take bacup of the database without stopping the site, but how? There must be others that have had the same problems? Regards, Sigurd

Jun 6, 2006

Hi,

Plz help!

I built a web site using IIS and ASP.NET 2.0.

My web site has a log on screen and I only configured it with one user without any roles. This web site uses the SQL EXPRESS.(I Have 2 databases: 1 for the security required by the application and the other for my application. for the connectionstring I used a windows authentication security with an instance = true.)

Everything went well on my PC.

When I tried to deploy the web site on another PC, there was a big problem.

When I tried to login with the same user I created, then I have a problem.

The password is incorrect(Why? I don't know).

Maybe there is a problem with the IIS or with the SQL SERVER.

What Happens To My SQL Express When I Post My Site To Full SQL 2005 Server

Lets say I use the 'enabling roles' for my ASP 2.0 site. This creates a ASPNETDB.DBF SQL Express file.
Later I go to post this to a real web server - which runs the 'full' MS SQL2005 server. What happens to the ASPNETDB.MDF file (or for that matter, any other MDF file I create with SQL Express) when it leaves the Express world and enters the Real world.

I want to create an SQLCLR project "HelloWorld" by Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio via VB 2005 Express. But I am still not sure how to get it started, because I do not understand the following things:
(1) Pipe Name for a User Instance, (2) Enabling (or Disabling) the CLR by using Transact-SQL, (3) Creating a Transact-SQL script, (4) Creating an Assembly, (5) Creating a backup device, etc. I need to see some simple examples of SQLCLR by Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio via VB 2005 Express. Please help and tell me where in the websites I can find them.

Connecting VB Express Files To SQL Server Management Studio Express

Aug 23, 2006

Really confused ... I created 2 tables in a VB Express program (which went well). Problem is that I can't see/find those tables with MSME. I don't really understand how to connect the MSME to where the tables are. I created the tables under My DocumentsData and they are DBapp.mdf + DBapp_log.LDF and the tables are Items and Preferences. The VB application can "see" the tables OK.

Do I need to move the tables to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSQL.1MSQLDATA (like the Adventureworks installation which I haven't done) or what?

Please help a newbie

Thanks

Connecting To SQL Express Through VB

Oct 28, 2006

Hi all,

I have SQL server express edition 2005 installed on my computer and using VB in MS Access to run some queries. The VB function looks something like this..

Dim dataRS As New ADODB.RecordsetDim cnnSQL As New ADODB.ConnectionSet cnnSQL = New ADODB.ConnectioncnnSQL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLNCLI;Server=.SQLExpress;Database=TestDB;Trusted_Connection=yes;" cnnSQL.Properties("Integrated Security").Value = "SSPI"cnnSQL.OpendataRS.Open "SELECT dbo_Table_1.* FROM dbo_Table_1", cnnSQL, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic

The code fails on the last line with message
"Invalid object name 'dbo_Table_1'"
(yes, I verified that the table actually does exist in the DB)

I must be doing something wrong with the connection string but all the things that I've tried so far haven't worked.. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

I Have A New Problem Connecting To Express

Aug 2, 2007

It is well documented and I am fully aware of the fact that remote connection protocols are disabled by default in Express. That being said, I have and application that has been working fine that used Express as a back end on my work network. We have been using it in a LAN environment (ie. all of the nodes are on the 192.168.xxx.xxx segment of the network). Recently, I have had to deploy this app to another facility in a different city that is on a different segment (ie 192.178.xxx.xxx adresses). There is connectivity in the LAN, but not over the WAN.

With all that being said, is there any know limitation to Express that would prevent me from establising a database connection across the WAN, eventhough I have a perfect setup in the LAN environment.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
