I am having problem with our network. We run a clinic database system that uses SQLServer 2000 Enterprise as the backend, and Microsoft Access on the front end.
I have had a running problem with all our newer machines (which run Windows 2000 or XP) in that while it connects to the server and retrieves some of the info properly, on some of the pages it doesnt. It will take 2 or 3 minutes for a page of the database to load, and even then not all the information will be retrieved properly.
I was able to fix the problem on the Windows 2000 machines by replacing the Sqlsrv32.dll file with an older version (usually with 3.70.06.23). And then the W2000 machines would work. But for some reason, the XP machines wont accept the older sqlsrv32.dll file...it gives me this error:
SQLState: 'HY000'
SQL Server Error: 126 Unable to load communication module driver correctly.
Hi all,I have to move my SQlServer 2000 instance from one server'actual_server' to another server 'new_server'.But, the different applications connecting to the actual server can'teasily change their connections address. i.e it connect to'actual_server' server only.Is there a risk to declare a DNS alias 'actual_server' pointing to'new_server' ?So I could move my databases from 'actual_server' to 'new_server'.Is the modification transparent to the client ?I especially thinking about wins...TYIACordiallyRJP
Hi, I have a database of Sql server 2000 in one of my windows XP machine. when iam trying to connect that database from other machine i am getting sql server does n't exist message. I can able to connect the sqlserver through the Enterprise manager but i can not connect the sqlserver through code.
I already used the same code to connect the sql server in windows 2000 machine and i connected to the database without any problem. but iam facing the problem with windows XP machine.
In moving a working data warehouse solution in SQL Server 2000 from Windows 2000 Server (32 bit) to Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition x64 edition, we are finding that we are unable to access the database.
Is this due to not using a 32bit ODBC driver ? Is there a specific MDAC version or SQL Server 2000 SP we should be using?
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

I have been configuring my website with the following:
I have my domain residing on a webserver with SQL Server 2005, and the database (an sql server 2000 db) which I am connecting to reside on another web.
Now when I try to connect to the to the remote database from SQL Server 2005, it gives me error, something like When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. or maybe An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
We have two server on pulbilc ip A , B in other country, and there replication will working fine. But i want to replicate data from one online server(A) to my local office(in my country) server(C). means from public ip to private(A->C). then some one told me that you have to put both server on public for replication. after the i put my local server(c) on public ip. but now i am facing the problem that i am able to connect C to A(means my office server to other country server) but not able to connect A to C(means other country server to my office server). when i am connecting from A to C then error shows is "defaut sqlserver server does not allow remote connection". I have change all the sql settings..and also done required changes in firewall but not successed. my operating system 2003 and database sql2005........ please help me................ASAP
I'm trying to retrieve native character data (SQL_WCHAR) through ODBC into an SQL_C_CHAR buffer using SQLBindCol and SQLFetch.
The database is SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
If I use DRIVER={SQL Server}, i.e., use SQLSRV32, everything gets converted properly.
If I use DRIVER={SQL Native Client}, i.e., use SQLCNLI, I apparently get garbage. This is true for ntext, nchar and nvarchar. I also have problems with xml, but I haven't gotten far enough to isolate what's going on with it.
I am having a problem connecting to SQL2005 through a package remotely. if the db is on the same system , the package is running fine. But when i try to connect to a remote db, i get the following error
Failed to acquire connection "[DBName]". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
I have already allowed remote connections on the db server using the SQL server surface are configuration utility.
My hosting provider use Plesk to sell space over the internet and said to me that SQLServer Express is installed on the server. I always get an stupid error trying to connect to the SQLExpress Database in my App_Data folder.I use the connection string:* data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Exam pleDB.mdf;User Instance=trueWith this connection string I get the error saying that server does not alow remote connection* data source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Exam pleDB.mdf;User Instance=trueWith this connection string I get the error:Invalid value for key 'attachdbfilename'I get the same message if I put anything in the AttachDBFileName. Why the .NET does not find the database? tkx in advancePaulo Aboim PintoOdivelas - Portugal
Thanks in advance. What is maximum SQL Server database (*.mdf) file size with SQL Server 2000 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000? (Database files were limited to 10 GB in SBS 4.5 with SQLServer 7.0... has this changed?).
Hi, I wanted to see what are all the users in a windows nt group that has a group access to sql server 2000. I have a windows 2000 group access to sqlserver 2000 as "xxxsomegroup". How can I list all users that belongs to this windows 200 group? is there any stored procedure to find out this? any information could be greatly appreciated.
I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.
When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.
I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.
hello eveyone..i have just downloaded and installed the visaul web developer 2005 express edition and sqlserver 2005 express edition. On top of that i even downloaded and installed the northwind database. But my problem is when i am connecting to the northwind database by clicking toos menu>connect to the database>choose datasource>new connection>..i have provided it with the required information..but as soon as i press "Test Connection" button the following error box displays.. "an error has occured while establishing a connection to the server.when connecting to the sql server2005,this failure may be caused by the fact that under default settings sql server doestnot allow remote connections.(provider:Named piped providers,error:40-couldnot open a connection to sqlserver.)" i have no idea whats is all about..can anyone get me pass this error..
When I try to make a connection to an Access .mdb I get the following error: "Unable to open application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user"
Yet, I am able to open the file through Access and have necessary permissions and I know no one else has it opened. The mdb is password protected and I have provided the correct login information in the DTS connection.
I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.
Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'. For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists. Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.
The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest... Thanks in advance

I am using Visual Studio 2005 with SQL Server 2000. I'm having an issue where I can build my website just fine for long periods of time, and then for what appears to be no reason, my site errors out when trying to connect to the database with the message below -- the thing is I don't want to use a SQL Server 2005 database, nor do I have Server 2005 or Server Express loaded. How can I unhook this and make it use SQL 2000?"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
