I need to connect to a database from my asp.net page through internet. I encrypt sensitive data before sending them on the net. but I think about a more basic problem: what happens to login data when transfered on the net? I mean, if user name and password are captured by hackers, they can make more serious problems than they find some sensitive data. what shall we do? is there any way for securing sql server login itself?

in microsoft doc there is written on the topic of BP Extensions with SSD's in SQL Server 2014: only clean pages are written to disk... does this mean data pages that have not been modified yet? or also those data pages that have already been modified, and where log has finished writing and the transaction has been marked as commited??
why are there clean data pages being written to L2 cache to make space for other not modified pages? I mean, shoudnt they be modified first, before letting other unmodified data pages into the Cache? I mean they have still to be modified..that makes no sense to me to page them out and page them in again just for other data pages...
Does anyone know a workaround for the code page translation that occurs if you use bcp to transfer data in and out of SQL Server. I have a table that I am losing certain characters in the transfers.
SQL Server 7.0 has the -C code page specifier added to BCP to address this but I am running 6.5 currently.

I am reading the official documentation on pages and extents. I've also read an article on the official SQL Server Blog (sadly, I can't link as a new member). These articles do a good job explaining what an extent is.Why use extents at all?I can't find a good example anywhere of how grouping pages into extents make SQL Server work more efficiently. I have developed some report in Sql Server Reporting services my Page orientation is portrait that is report height and width are 8.5 and 11 respectively and margins are set to 0.3 in when it is printed the pages are printed more that actually viewed Pages.
I am having an asp.net web site hosted in my machine's IIS (5.1). This aspx files are accessing data from an sql server 2000 database located in another machine. While i am trying to open a connection from the aspx files to the database, an error showing login failed for that user. Not a trusted sql server connection. so i unchecked the "allow anonymous access" in the directory security. But now its working from my machine (the web server, localhost). but when i try to access the aspx files from another machine with my system ip, the same error exists-Login failed for the user and not a trusted sql server connection.
I have designed a fairly simple report in report designer that uses an analysis services cube as its input, and a basic matrix object as the primary design component. Cube performance either via object browser in Analysis Services or via connection from Excel is great. It does exactly what you build a cube for, i.e. it builds aggregations you can get to quickly. However rendering from a report designer report within Report Manager is a different story.
Even though this report is being rendered from an execution snapshot, it is painfully slow at opening and closing different levels of drill down. The report does have six levels of drill down, which I am sure is a factor. If I use a smaller dataset, performance does become more acceptable. However, I don't consider the requirements of my report to be all that extraordinary.
My conclusion thus far is that larger data sets with many possible page renderings are not the best candidates for HTML rendered reports. In this case Microsoft's cube analysis add-in to Excel might be a better choice. Thoughts and feedback on either how to improve the rendering speed or other presentation alternatives that would perform better would all be welcome.

I am using windows authentication, I have created a username in windows, then i added the windows user in SQL management studio in security, granted "DB Read" and "DB write" and again under the database security tab. still from the web authentication fails. i must be nissing a step or two?
I expect to set up a username for each database as i setup new customers.
I want to make the ReportServer and Reports pages secured i.e not allow anyone to access these pages via browser.
I login to a machine as user ABC. This user does not have permission on reports. if this user accesses ReportServer or Reports, expected is that access should be denied unless I enter an account that has been given permissions. for e.x. following pages should be secured. http://<reportserver>/Reports http://<reportserver>/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2f<Report_Project>%2f<Report_Name> http://<reportserver>/ReportServer http://<reportserver>/ReportServer?%2f<Report_Project>&rs:Command=ListChildren
Actual result is that I am able to access these pages. When I click on the report I get the error (this is expected) but then user ABC should be shown error on first page itself.
In short, for all the accounts that do not already have permissions on reports, the server should challenge me to enter an account and password. Is there some setting in the configuration file? Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance!

The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I am trying to connect to a sql server 2005 server using either windows auth or sql server auth but I can not. When I click on the connect button to connect to a server it never connects. I can not cancel once I press connect. It never times out after I press connect. I removed all registered servers that were registered previously. I have uninstalled all software that involved sql server (and sql2000) run a registry cleaner(not microsofts), installed the software to a new directory and still I can not connect to the sql2005 server (the only db).

I'm about to go absolutely nuts. I've tried so many things including:
1) Of course making sure Remote connections and both TCP/IP and named pipes are enabled for SQL 2005 2) Verified my connection string works. I even tested it in Enterprise Library using the tool and it connects successfully via windows authentication 3) Made sure of course my logged in user is a member of the administrator group and that my user in SQL 2005 logins has db_owner and full rights to the DB I am connecting to. I also made sure the NT AUTHORITY as well as the 3 sql service users have db_owner rights as well as the adminstrator in the SQL Server logins all have db_owner to the DB 4) Started the SQL Server Browser service, SQL Server DB engine, and SQL Server Agent 5) Made sure my site is setup right in IIS 7. I checked the connection string in there as well as it shows up in IIS7 in one of the sections. Using Windows authentication and it is enabled for my site 6) Tried running the .net site using both localhost (IIS) and also tried using the Visual Studio built-in web server. Hi All, After I installed sql server 2005 64bit standard edition on Windows Server Enterprise 2008 64bit, I cannot connect to the sql instance using the sql management studio on the same machine! I verified that:
service is running,
in surface area configuration: remote connections to local and remote are enabled, for TCP/IP and named pipes.
ran the command netstat -avn| findstr 49279 to make sure that the server is listening.
firewall is off, but this does not matter since I'm connecting locally to local instance

I have couple of questions
1) That SQL server is accessible from my network, yet when I swtich on my enterprise manager I am unable to view that in the list of running SQL servers in the populated list.
Is it because its sitting in a shared environment I am unable to view that?
2) What is the connection striing I should use to connect to the server..When I try to configure a SQL server registrations it normally asks for SQL Server name along with the user authentication

I have a msaccess linked server that I use to execute sql 2000 stored procedures from a front end in adp (access data project) format without any problem, if it is used on the same machine where the sql server resides (with any user logged on). In any other machine on the local network where I also need to use it, I get an ole/db error message saying that the microsoft jet database engine can not open the file because it's allready opened exclusivly or because it do not has permissions. I created the linked server with both UNC and normal path with the same result.

When I done with it and click OK, the message prompt that "Unable to connect to database".So, is it impossible to connect SQL Server 2005 Express Edition using the server explorer?But, the connection is ok when I connect through code cause I can retrieve and update database.
I had asked a question last week and I realized that I had phrased it in a misleading way. Within a lab environment at my company, we are experimenting w/ accessing remote SQL data files stored separately on another machine from the SQL server itself (whether it be another client or server).
The experiment is this: You have one client machine accessing a SQL server via Enterprise Manager. The datafiles that you are trying to access are stored on another machine that does not have SQL Server installed. This remote machine only has the datafiles.
Can one map a static path via UNC from the SQL server to the datafiles on the remote machine and then access these datafiles (as long as the user's account has the appropriate permissions to the remote machine)? To my understanding, within SQL server you can only access datafiles that are stored locally on the SQL server itself.
The other thing that I was wondering was if the type of user account had some significance in this situation. More than likely, a local user account would not be able to access the remote machine w/ the datafiles even if the SQL server could map an UNC path and retain it. A domainuser account might be able to do this though.
Any help that you could provide would be appreciated.
I am running into a problem and have been browsing the web and reading nonstop for answers with no success. My company just installed SQL Server 2005 and I am trying to connect to it via SQL Server Management Studio from my network computer in the same office building.
When I browse for Local or Network Servers in the initial popup box at SQL Management Studio Startup, it doesn't show any servers at all. Is there something I need to enable on the Server using the Configuration Manager or one of the other tools to allow my network computer to "see" the SQL Server?
Any insight would be MUCH appreciated. Even a link to a how-to would suffice. Thank you.
