In my project , we are using Dsn and DSN less connection, for certain functionality
we are providing users to select tables and views .
we don't want that all system tables and views are listed for selecting , how can we achieve this functionality?
Is there any options in the connection string for restricting system tables and views?

There are a few questions I have on the parameters you can use in a connection string. I didn't see a post with these already, and I think they may be helpful for those just starting to figure out how things work. I couldn't seem to find these defined in the msdn anywhere. What exactly do the following do:
"server=.\sqlexpress;" or "data source=.\sqlexpress;" - Is there a difference in using these, or are they completely interchangeable without any side effects? So far it seems I have been able to swap them for each other without anything happening however there may be something I don't see happening behind the scenes!
"Trusted_Connection=yes;" - Is this a workaround for getting SQL Server to work on vista's UAC or something? If not what does it do?
"Integrated Security=true;" - I know this has to be used with User Instance=true, but is there anywhere that says what it's actual function is?
"database=myDB;" - If I use this in a string it causes my program to crash. It also has a side effect of making me have to stop all sqlservr.exe processes and restart the service before my program will run again without it included in the string. Not sure why this is the case, however here is the string I try to use:

Now with using that string, the point of having both the "AttachDbFilename="c:\sfsf\sads\myDB.mdf";" and the "database=myDB;" options is that I read if you use those together it causes the SQL Server to first check and see if the database is already attached. If it is then it doesn't reattach the database, and just uses the current attached database. While this makes sense it doesn't seem to work for me since as I stated above anytime I use the database option it crashes the app. Any ideas? If that isn't how it is used what is the "database=" option for?
There may be more options I don't know about yet, but those are the ones I am not clear on. Hopefully one of you more experienced folks and shed some light on them!

I am trying to use RDA to synchronize my server database (SQL Server Express) and client database (SQL Compact Edition) on my PDA. I am also using the sqlcesa30.dll for my internet URL.

Now my problem is i want to move my reports to another report server.. how to acheive this ?. You mentioned that it will work with Transactional replication only if the application uses the option ' with log ' for those transactions .

Okay, here's an algorithm question for you TSQL gurus out there...
Due to circumstances beyond our control, our group has been tasked with a massive project and a very short timeline. And of course, timely completion is needed because our STOCK OPTIONS grants depend on this! And of course board meetings are always scheduled sooner than you expect.
Here's one of the killer questions we're trying to solve...
Given a table of employee ID's, associated supervisor ID's, and the amount of stock options given, how would you write a stored procedure to return, for any branch of the organizational tree, the sum of all the stock options in a particular branch?
Example:
EMPID SUPERVISORID STOCKOPTIONS
1 2 100
2 30 500
3 2 150
30 50 1000
50 60 5000
What we need is something like : "sp_StockOptionsPerDepartment @SUPERVISORID=30"
with a result : "1750".
Basically we're building an organizational chart of our company from this table, on the fly, and also counting up for certain branches of the org chart, the total stock options.
If a manager has two managers under him, and each sub-manager has three employees, then we want to know the total stock options that all 3+3+2+1 = 9 people possess. Basically it's the total pool of stock options for a department, or work group, or division, etc.
Got this to work for a small set of employees, but when we begin to scale up to entire departments, the query times out because it takes tooooo long...
Any ideas? ANY ideas at ALL would be helpful...

(1) This is basically a tree-traversal algorithm, but conversion into SQL is not always so straightforward. Starting from an arbitrary root node, we must visit every child node underneath, walking all the way down to the leaves.
(2) We tried a brute force algorithm which is fast for smaller sets, but impossibly long for sets where we're dealing with hundreds of employees. Any cheats? Caching results as we go? Any ideas out there?

I need to set multiple values for some SQL statements, for exampleSET NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFFGOSETANSI_PADDING,ANSI_WARNINGS,CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL ,ARITHABORT,QUOTED_IDENTIFIER,ANSI_NULLS ONGOin a .sql file, but would like to reset them to their previous settingsagain for other SQL statements. Either the WHERE, ORDER BY, and ADVANCED buttons are greyed out, or when they are active, the ADVANCED button always displays the advabced options which are always greyed out. View 4 Replies View RelatedI added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

I have 2 machines, one is local and other is remote. on both machine I login using my domain, it is working absolutely fine on local then why the error is coming on remote machine.Both the machines are identical.
I have been trying to host my website on Go Daddy for about 3 weeks and I have cleared several problems but this one remains. I can get into the ASPNETDB database for doing logins , etc but I cant access my database called "PINEmgt".

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.
MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.
The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.
(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.

I have a super simple package that inserts x000's of rows into a temporary table. The data source is a file that the user will upload. I need to be able to tell the package what file to upload. I'm thinking the simplest thing would be to edit the connectionString property of the SourceConnectionFlatFile at runtime. Is this possible? What form should the file path be in (UNC, other)? And, are there any other considerations I should be aware of?

I am building a string (basically XML) on the fly in stored procedure (SQL 7.0). I am using one local variable @str_xml varchar(8000) to build this string.
Now my problem is I can store maximum upto 8000 characters in "varchar type". And I can't use text field as SQL Server doesn't allow "text type" to be used as local variable.
I am thinking to use 2 or 3 local varchar variables and then return them separately to front end and will do contatination at the front end. But I think it would be ugly way to do as I have to check every time in stored procedure the length of string.
Any suggestions to do this in some other way would be greatly helpful to me.

In cube created by me, there is one measure called SALES AMOUNT, i defined its Format String as Currency.
And there is one Calculated measure Average Sales Amount, that also have the Format string as Currency.
But for some strange reasons, when I Pull Sales Amount it is coming with $ prefix, but when I pull Average Sales Amount it is coming with prefix Rs....
can anyone help me, what is going wrong here.. its very urgent.

My understanding is that changing the variable from SERVERA to SERVERB should repoint the connection. (Test to pre-production to production in my current promotion environment.) This should also take effect in any dataflow task using the database connection above right? When I try to repoint the server variable (and only the server variable) I am either a.)throwing errors saying the original connection cannot be found in the data flow task, or b.)the job appears to be processing fine, but the repoint did not take place and data is still flowing to the original server.
Can anyone offer suggestions as to what I am missing?

I was tasked to come up with a search function and the content of the database given to me is in Chinese Characters. This would be my first time dealing with Chinese characters in the database and I need help with the following problem:
The company wants to conduct the search in such a way that, instead of having the system read the entire sentence/phrase which the user keyed in as a SINGLE string, they want the Chinese Characters to be accessed individually, so that as long as any information in the database contains any one of the characters which the user have entered, they will be retrieved and returned.
So how do I go about doing this? Does it have anything to do with Unicode? By the way, everything abt the search tool is working fine, I am just left with this dilemma of having the system recognise the entire sentence as ONE STRING, instead of conducting a search word by word or character by character.

I need help in determining number of users currently logged on the production server.
Do you think that the following query will give me the accurate result?
select distinct s.loginame, s.hostname, s.dbid , d.name
from sysprocesses s,
sysdatabases d
where s.dbid = d.dbid
order by s.dbid, s.loginame
I want to make sure that I pick up only the user name those are really connected to the database with query analyser, EM or some application etc.
I don't want to display the whole list of sysusers.

Hi, I was using an accounting software which uses sql server 2005 express and while I was processing a transaction my machine got stuck and didn't allow to do any operation and I had to restart the machine.I've connected to a domain and after I logged in to the software I can process all other transactions but Couldn't process the one I tried when the machine got stuck. It says connection failure and Select * command dosent work. the software runs in the domain and it need .net frame work 2.o and Windows Installer 3.0 for installation.(Sage Pastel Evolution).I removed sage and Sql server completely and reinstalled but the result was same. Then I applied a patch for clearALLPool but I'm in the simmillar situation

I have this major problem:
I used to use sql 7.0 with vb6 thru this line of code connection:
.ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & SQL_SRV & ";User ID=sa" & ";Initial Catalog= NorthWind" //no password
Through an executable file, i was able to run my program from different stations (LAN network; database sql at my station)
Lately, i shifted from 7.0 to sql 2005.
With the following line of code connection:
.ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & SQL_SRV & ";User ID=sa" & ";Password=****" & ";Initial Catalog= NorthWind"
or through windows authentication:
.ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & SQL_SRV & "; Initial Catalog=NorthWind; Trusted_Connection=yes"
if i run my executable file on my station, it works perfectly fine.
But when i try to run the executable file from any other station, the following occurs:
run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)':
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Any clue where could be the problem?
