All --
Please help.
I have some questions about connection strings.
BACKGROUND...
Note that I am using the "SQL Native Client OLE DB Provider", SQL Sever 2005 Express, ASP.NET, C#.NET, and VS.NET 2005.
Note that I do not want to use the "Attach a database file" type of connection string.
Note that I am using the site http://www.ConnectionStrings.com as a reference.
Note that this "Standard security" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Uid=MyDatabaseUser;Pwd=MyDatabasePassword;" />...does not work and causes the following run-time error...A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)
Note that this "Trusted connection" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Trusted_Connection=yes;" />...works but is less-than ideal because it uses a Trusted Connection rather than a Username/Password combination.
QUESTIONS...
(A) What exactly does the error in Item 4 mean?
(B) Do 4 and 5 imply that one must use a Trusted_Connection for all SQL Server 2005 Express connection strings when the database does not reside in the web application's App_Data folder or use a "Attach a database file" type of connection string?
(C) Are there any alternatives?
(D) What do you suggest?
Please advise.
Thank you.

I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€?
However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database.
The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07

Basically I've been using Visual Studio 2005 for a few weeks now moving a Pocket PC project from 2003 to 2005. When I hit the Start Debugging Button every time until today the project would rebuild and deploy to my pocket PC allowing me to debug etc but now I get
The remote connection to the device has been lost.
Please verify the device conection and restart debugging.
I used to get this problem in VS2003 sometimes and just like the numerous posts on different sites that I've looked at the problem eventually goes away and I'm none the wiser. One guy said that he found that if he went to bed the problem was resolved when he came back!
My PDA running Windows 2003 2nd Edition is directly connected to my PC via a USB port. I've rebooted my PC and done a soft reset on the PDA but it didn't help. I'm using ActiveSync 4.1.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to connect to Desktop SQL Server 2000 from Windows mobile PC Emulator (VS 2005). I need a direct connection using connection string to SQL Server 2000 through local wireless network without IIS.
Bellow is the code that I use. After executing this code I get an error on line Conn.Open(). Error says SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
SQL is un and running, and I can log in using SA username from the desktop. Even if I chance IP for another SQL server in my connection string I still get the same error. There is no firewall of any kind running.
Dim connectionSTR As String = "Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=False;Server=192.168.0.202,1433;initial catalog=MyDB;user id=sa;password=;"
Dim Conn As SqlConnection
Conn = New SqlConnection(connectionSTR)
Conn.Open()
If Conn.State = ConnectionState.Open Then
MessageBox.Show("Open")
End If
About my environment: SQL Server 2000 is running on Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. Application which I need to connect to SQL Server is in Visual Studio 2005. I execute the application in Windows Mobile PC Emulator and try to connect to SQL Server from emulator.
Your advice and help is very appreciated
Thank you

Hello, How are you?
I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?
I appreciate your help€¦

I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express and some sample databases (incl. Adventureworks_data.mdf), but when I try to Add Connection in VS 2005 to point to this db and use the Test Connection button, it gives the error:
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
---------------------------
I've tried setting the data source as either "Microsoft SQL Server Database File" or "Microsoft SQL Server", but get the same error.
Any tips on verifying SQL Srv Express is installed correctly? Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running
telnet sql5.hostinguk.net 1433 and
sqlcmd -S sql5.hostinguk.net -U username -P password
See below:

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
TCP 81.105.102.47:1138 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT
TCP 81.105.102.47:1139 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT
TCP 81.105.102.47:1140 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?

Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. The database connection works perfectly well. This are the connectionString from the old web application.<appSettings> <add key="ConnectionString" value="Server=127.0.0.1;Database=somedb;User id=user; Password=somepassword; Trusted_Connection=False; POOLING=FALSE"/></appSettings> Thankyou in advance!

In a Web app as per above, where are connections to SQL Server and the connection pool monitored? Is it in SQL Server itself? For example, in the following connection string:"Server=(local); Database=TranOps; " + "Integrated Security=SSPI;" + "Pooling = true;" + "Min Pool Size = 1;" + "Max Pool Size = 5;" + "Persist Security Info=False;";The first user accesses a web form, and the connection is opened, and the pool started, then the connection is closed. I think at this point there should be five connections available. When the second user accesses their web form, and connects using exactly the same string, it seems that if the connection is requested within a certain time frame of the first, one of the original five connections will be 'opened', or more correctly drawn from the pool, and used. If I am understanding this correctly, then the pool must be maintained by SQL Server, not by anything in the web application. Is this a correct interpretation? Many thanks,Mike Thomas

Hi!
I have this problem:
When I try to open database table under database explorer in VWD 2005
EE, it says that it failed to attempt connection due to user instance
and the connection will be closed.
When I try to right click on my database's file name under database
explorer and click connection to set the connection setting and click
on "Test Connection", it says the same thing.
This happen sometime, but after I restart my computer, I am able to access my database file again.
Anybody have any idea what's going on?
thanks !

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

Hi,
Need help in pulling data from DB2 using SQL 2005 64-bit (in 64-bit Server), we were able to successfully install IBM ODBC Driver, link DB2 server in add linked server, and query data using SQL Management Studio. But when we tried to pull data in SSIS (BIDS), using [OLE DB Source] data flow task (having Native OLE DBIBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDA400 OLE DB Provider), and used simple command query (select * from [DB2 library name].[table name]), we get this error:
[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
Many thanks for anyone who would help.

I have an MS SQL problem,
I have set up Adobe Enterprise with a MS SQL 2005 database. Although €˜Connect€™ recognised the SQL data source on install it now refuses to connect. The SQL log shows that a connection is being attempted every time the System Administrator username and password details are entered into the €˜Connect€™ configuration, so details such as host, data source, ports etc are all right.
I assume this must be an authentication problem as I can connect to the data source fine in the MS SQL 2005 management tool, I thought it may be because I have Windows Authentication on rather than mixed mode authentication€¦but I don€™t seem either a) change to mixed mode or b) change the password.
How do I either reset the MS SQL system admin details or access the database outside of the SQL management software to verify that the login details I am putting into Connect are in fact right...this is of course assuming it is an authentication problem.
Any help please€¦.

Hi,
i am stuck in a strange situation.
I have successfully built my application setup through InstallSheild 12. Which first installs SQL Express user define instance as a pre-requisite and then install my application files. First time when i run my application (without restarting the pc), it connects successfully with user define instance.
But as i restart my PC and try to open my application, it is not connecting with database.
i am using the following command line to install SQL Express 2005 user define instance:
"/qn ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine INSTANCENAME=MyInstance SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD="test" AUTOSTART=1"
if i change Remote connection to "using both TCP/IP and named pipes" through "SQL Server Surface Area Configuration" and then restart my pc again. My application connects successfully with Database.
Please guide me where i am getting wrong in building setup. do i have to add something in my command line to not get this error

Hi,
I have a VBA Application that uses ADO 2.8 to connect SQL Server 2005 standard edition thru SQL Native Client. The data update is done for every minute basis with 20 timers events that fires for every 1 minute and all timers start at same time. SQL Server database has merge replication that synchronizes in every 10 minutes. VBA Application calls stored procedure to insert record. The system was running fine, but since a week VBA application is often getting an error states "Query Timed Out" , "The transaction active in this session has been committed or aborted by another session.".
Please suggest that can support me to solve issue.
Regards,
Pavan

Previous installations have only ever given me Firewall and network problems, although our comms have advised that the firewall has been set to allow 1433 & 1434.
I have accessed the server through remote desktop, and the DBase seems fine.

Hi,
I just installed SQL 2005 on an XP SP2 box that is NOT running Windows Firewall.
Unfortunately, I'm still getting a connection issue that says:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=2&LinkId=20476
Help?
