I get this error when trying to connect. I'm using the sa id and password for all of my odbc connections. It fails when trying to connect to this one but it's ok on a couple of others I've set up with the same id etc. Where is this "" coming from and how to avoid it in the future?
I've removed and recreated the connection to be sure that I didn't actually type that in as the id....hey it's monday...it could happen.
I get this error when I try to connect to my SQL Server with JDBC:
Excepcion en MyPool Pool.getNewConnection() [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Cannot open database "lituania" requested by the login. The login failed.
A user is trying to connect to a server via windows authentication from SQL management studio on her desktop.
The log file on the server gives: Login failed for user: domain1user1 Error : 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11
The strange thing is that the user in the error above is not the user she's trying to connect as (domain2user2, say). user2 can remote desktop to the server and log in there.
I know this state implies "Valid login but server access failure".
Has anyone run into this, and what more information would be useful to know? Thanks!
I just upgraded SQL Server 2000 to 2005 without any errors. Afterwards, I tried registering with sa and it failed. I registered with another sysadmin login to get into most of my databases, but I need sa to work for my backup software Idera SQLSafe to login to the database.
Does anyone have any experience or recommendations? I know my password is correct.
can someone help me with this error. Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16 Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM' [CLIENT:<local machine>] I've found several Threads but not with the NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM.
Hi, I have a service using SQL 2005 Express database, the service is started automatically on system startup, most of the times it can logon to the database successfully, however, sometimes, I got the following error:
"Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16"
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Yuxi

hi, i am getting the following error message while i am trying to login to the SQL Server 2005 on my vista laptop. i installed the server with dual authentication modes.
Login failed for the user'xxxx'(Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Error:18456)

I am trying to create a linked server between 2 SQL Server 2005 boxes. When I create the linked server I specify a login for the connection. The strange part is that I get the following error when it goes to test the connection:
The test connection to the linked server failed Login failed for user 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)
I can use the SQL mangement studio to conenct to the database using this same login. The login has all the server roles assigned to it also.
Can anyone shed some light as to what may be the problem?
I am working on SQL Server 2005 (x64) with Windows Server 2003 (x64) operating system. I am having a major issue in SSIS. Here is the detailed explanation of the issue :
I have an EXCEL file in 2003 / 2007 version. It contains some data. I want to import the data using SSIS into SQL Server 2005 (x64) database table. I have taken "EXCEL FILE SOURCE" and "SQL Server DESTINATION". It was failed on importing data. Surprisingly it works fine in SQL Server 2005 (x32). Can you please explain why it is NOT woking on (x64) ?
Here is the error code i am getting:
[Excel Source [1]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Hi All, I am getting the following error if I am using the package "Transaction Option=Required" while running through Sql Job: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<connection name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
while I running the SSIS package on BI environment, I am getting the following error: [Connection manager "<connection name>"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
I know the alternative solution is to make the "Transaction Option=Supported", but in my case I have run the whole flow in a single transaction. I came to know that this has been fixed in the service pack1(ref. to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914375). FYI.. some time it was running successful.
I have taken all the necessary step to run the SSIS package in a distributed transaction(like the steps for MSDTC) and also created the package flow in a sequence.
I was going through the link - http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=160340&SiteID=1 but all those didn't solve my problem.
If anyone can help me it will be great. or it is a bug in SSIS?
I am working in a distributed environment, I verified msgs have been successfully send from server1 db1 to server2 db2, but I still get the following error msg from the sender server through SQL profile:
Connection attempt failed with error: '10061(No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)'.
Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
He got this error
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.
I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SElevalencia.
Thats strange.
The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.
I am running several instances of SQL Server 2005 sp2 on a W2k3 sp2 box (member server).
This morning, I installed reporting services to one of my instances and shortly after noticed I was getting the following two messages in my SQL Server log file:-
08/08/2007 11:05:03,Logon,Unknown,Login failed for user 'DOMAINDOMCONTROLLER$'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] 08/08/2007 11:05:03,Logon,Unknown,Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
The above entries were each repeated 6 times every 15 minutes but with State 11. I created a logon for the above, and now get the above messages (state 16) repeated 3 times every 15 minutes!
Last night I setup my MOSS 2007 server and SQL 2005, I got everything working fine in short order.
I had forgotten to look for updates for SQL 2005 so i decided I would run Windows Update.
SQL Server 2005 Critical Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB 934458)
Tuesday, March 04, 2008 Microsoft Update
SQL Server 2005 Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB 921896)
Those two updates were applied, then after a reboot I began getting the login failed error.
I can login using windows authentication as DOMAINAdministrator, I can also login as SA, but i am trying to figure out why it is denying me logins as DOMAINSharepoint
Has anybody had prior experience with this or know what the deal is?
SQL2000 SP4 (SQL and Windows authentication) on Win2000SP4. Event ID 17055 (18456: Login failed for user 'sa'.) is being logged at an average of 20 times an hour. Tried to run SQL Profiler but it no trace information on the source (host, ip or application) of the failed login. Some forums suggest to unplug the server from network to know if its a local or networked issue but this is not possible in my case. Acquiring firewall/router logs from Network team is a headache. Any help on pinpointing what/where is this failed login coming from is very much appreciated.
hi , i am creating a service broker application between two different instance.when i am initiating a dialog from the source my message remain in the sys.transmission_queue.but its transmission_status column is empty.
i attached the profiler with both source and target by including all the service broker event.
in my source profiler i am getting the error like -- Connection attempt failed with error: '10061(No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)'. with event Broker:connection
and in the target profiler error is --This message could not be delivered because the security context could not be retrieved. with event Broker:Message Undelivarible.
i have checked my port also using telnet with remotely and localy both working fine. i am using port no. 4001 and i have mentioned the port no. in the address of the route.
I am using windows 2003 server and i have installed SSAS 2005 and configured http request for AS 2005 with this below url : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx. I had tried all the possiblities given in this url. But i am getting like "Test connection failed because of error initializing provider. The HTTP Server returned the following error : Not found" when i create udl file. Moreover i have installed MSOLAP 3.0 and OLAP 9.0 provider and MSXML 6.0 Parser.
I am using SSIS 2005 on Windows 2003 server. Using Excel Source to dump the data for staging database. I am getting following error while I execute it through BI studio's execute button.
I have deployed my packages into Sql Server and I am using Configuration File. As my Data Source is Excel, I have changed the connection string during deployment with Server Path. But I am getting the following errors. Actually the File Exist in Path. May I know What is cause of the issue? Do I need to give any permission to execute the package.

One or more component failed validation.
There were errors during task validation.

When I am trying to run my package from C# code. i am getting the error Failed to acquire connection <connection name> (0xC00291EC ). Does anyone know how do solve this issue.
Sir i am trying to connect sql from my LAN to my networked computers but whenever i tried to register it through Enterprise manager i get following "SQL Server registration failed because of the conection failure displayed below.Do you wish to Register anyway? Login failed for user 'SW17/Guest'
where SW17/ is my another computer name... i have checked tcp and named pipes and confirm username for sql authentication too please help me as i being late submit my project
Does anybody know what it means? The context is: a package with a single Data Flow finishes with this error: [Connection manager "xxx"] Error: The connection manager failed to defect from the transaction. All components inside the data flow reports a successfull green status, however the DataFlow Task remains yellow for a long time, when suddenly the package stops with the above message. Another information is that the table remains locked during package execution (a select on that table does not complete...). This is a serious issue, and I couldnt find any relevant information about that. Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone. I'm very new to asp.net. I've been coding in vb.net for a while now (getting my associates degree in desktop application programming) and my boss wants all of my new applications to be web based now. Well, i decided to take some initiative on this and begin a new project for my department. This is a very small project. So far, everything is coming along alright (i found an eBook that's helped me quite a bit). Everything was cool until yesterday when i tried to connect to our sql server database. I get an error message stating:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Because i'm testing this on my system as well as the remote system which hosts the application, i can see the error message on the remote system. Here is the error it's giving me:
Server Error in '/' Application. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

You can see my SQL Connection string in there as well. Can someone please help me with this? I can post the code to the entire page as well if that would help. I'm developing this with Dreamweaver MX 2004 (i like dreamweaver MUCH better than visual studio, especially for web design/development). Thanks,
I am creating my first SSIS package, simple, I read a file, a computation and then write it to an excel.
I am getting the message: "Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider." The database is NOT remote. My computer is slow though. after about 10 or 15 seconds after clicking the button to test my connection, I get the message and much more. The message asks me if the instance name is correct. I don't know what this would be. This message is on the first task, reading the file (finding the file).
The last sentence of the long message is: "Named pipes provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server (2).
My question is: Why am I getting this message and what do I need to do to resolve this problem?
Hopefully there's an easy answer for this. I'm totally new to SQL server and I'm trying to upsize an Access database. Whether I use the upsizing wizard or try to create a data source through the ODBC Data Source Administrator, I get a connection failed error. It tells me the server does not exist or my login is incorrect. I'm using NT authentication to connect to the server on my local drive. I just installed the whole 2005 express edition and the only thing that came up during the install was that I didn't have IIS installed. I didn't see how that would be relevant, so I went ahead with the install.
Shouldn't this work with the default setup? I've searched around trying different "solutions" although I doubt they were specifically related to this very basic problem. I tried giving my login every right I could find through in the database engine properties in the server management studio, which connects fine itself with just my network login name and no password. What am I missing?
