Connection Handshake Failed - Easiest Possible Configuration
Jun 1, 2006
Hi there!
Often discussed, but not really solved in my opinion - the connection between the partners and the witness causes problems.
My case: Three Servers in the same domain, three endpoints on 5022 with windows negotiation, all endpoints can be reached by telnet from each server. Mirrorring works. So far so good.
But one of these partners is not able to connect to the witness. The witness' error log is full with that:
"2006-06-01 13:45:20.32 Logon Database Mirroring login attempt failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (8009030c) 0x8009030c(Der Anmeldeversuch ist fehlgeschlagen.). State 67.'. [CLIENT: 130.143.205.54]"
My Endpoints are created like
CREATE ENDPOINT [EASYRIS_Mirroring]
AUTHORIZATION [code1dephbrsaa1-sys108]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE
, ENCRYPTION = SUPPORTED ALGORITHM RC4);
What catches my eyes is that
GRANT CONNECT ON ENDPOINT::EASYRIS_Mirroring TO [code1dephbrsaa1-sys108];
doesn't cause these user to appear in the result set of
Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
He got this error
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.
I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SElevalencia.
Thats strange.
The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.
I am unable to send a message to a target service on a different SQL Server instance. Using the SQL Profiler, I get the following error from the target machine:
Broker::Connection: Connection handshake failed: An OS call failed: (80090326) 0x80090326(The message received was unexpected or badly formatted.). State 106.
On the initiator side, the transmission_status shows the following error:
An error occurred while receiving data: '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)'.
Any ideas on why the target thinks the message is "unexpected or badly formatted"? Btw, I am specifying the default message type and contract for the services.
I configured a database mirroring on SQL server 2008 R2 on test environment. However It was not working, after some time. I deleted the mirroring configuration and also deleted database on both primary and mirror instance.
few days later I notices, On Primary, Continuous error events logged with message "database mirroring attempt by user 'domainservice account' failed with error 'connection handshake failed, 'domainservice account' does not have permission on the endpoint state 84.
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
I have tried all of the recommendations I can find here without any luck. What am I missing?
I keep getting these alerts but the client's IP listed in the message doesn't seem to be having a problem. I'm not sure if it is retrying and succeeds the second or third try. I commonly get 2 of these messages each time it happens. I thought is may be when the user connects to the server in Management Studio but when I got the message today the user wasn't trying to connect to this server. The server the use was connected to in SSMS is linked to this server but if the link was causing the error it looks like it would return the IP of the server instead of the users IP. The link is done using a SQL login account. Anyway, this is not a big problem since know body except me even knows it is happening but I'd like to figure it out.

Hi, I am using SQL Server 2005. I got the following error in event viewer. Tried to search info from web failed. Does anyone have idea? Thanks a lot :)
[Log]=Application [EventID]=17806 [Source]=MSSQLSERVER [Time]=02-07-2007 23:35:56 [EventMsg]=SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x80090308 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 202.40.9.176]
My developers are getting a "Failed to retrieve data for this request error" in SQL Server Management Studio. When I look in the SQL Server logs there are two errors logged: Source Logon Message Error: 17806, Severity: 20, State: 2. Source Logon Message SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x80090311 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: IP Address] I can€™t seem to find any information about these errors. Any ideas?
I have a SQl2k8 R2 up and running on a win2k8 R2, I have a domain controller as well with AD 2k8 R2. It works fine but from time to time I receive a dozen of successive alerts like th folowing
DATE/TIME:      11/22/2010 12:19:57 PM  DESCRIPTION: SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x80090311, state 14 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. Reason: AcceptSecurityContext failed. The Windows error code indicates the cause of failure.  COMMENT:      (None) JOB RUN:           (None)
I understand from some threads here that it is an issue related to contacting the AD. In event viewer it is not clear what is casuing this. I have WSS databases, Biztalk server databases.....and some other user databases. NO home made applications contact sql server.  What is the best route to follow to see who is not being able sometimes and why contacting the AD. I read the thread at URL.... but it is related to express 2005 and it does not apply to my case.
Hi, I am using SQL Server 2005. I got the following error in event viewer. I tried to search on web the solution but failed. Does anyone have idea on that? Many thanks :)

Im trying to login to sql from an external client but I keep getting these messages

This only happens when the SQL server has these policies applied:

Hi, I am having such a problem. I have SQL Express installed on the windows 2003 server and originally I installed instance1 of SQL Server 2005. When I installed Instance1, I remember having problems with remotely connecting to that instance1, but somehow I fixed it. Now I installed instance2 and I started having remote connection issues again with that instance2. I am able to connect to instance1 but not instance2. I checked settings for both instances and they look identical. I turned firewall off for now. I checked TCP settings using surface area configuration (allowing both local and remote connections). I turned off VIA protocol. I specified TCP properties to use dynamic port for that instance2. In the sql native client configuration I have the following order#: 1. Shared memory, 2. tcp, 3. np, 4. VIA(Disabled). TCP is configured to use 1433. I have no clue about what is going on. Sometimes I am able to connect remotely and sometimes I get the following error: "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)." When I connect locally - everything connects fine. File sharing is also checked, it works etc... Thanks for help!!! GK I just noticed that I was able to connect from different computer on the different network.
I get the following error when trying to view my page.
Can someone please help me with this error. What does it mean and what is the solution to it? Here is the complete error message. - A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)
Sir i am trying to connect sql from my LAN to my networked computers but whenever i tried to register it through Enterprise manager i get following "SQL Server registration failed because of the conection failure displayed below.Do you wish to Register anyway? Login failed for user 'SW17/Guest'
where SW17/ is my another computer name... i have checked tcp and named pipes and confirm username for sql authentication too please help me as i being late submit my project
I got this message from sql "Server was unable to process request. ---> A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) " Does anyone know what happen? Thanks
Hi, I'm having a BIG problem, this is my 3rd day looking for answer !I'm trying to create a custom membership provider with MS SQL database 2005 but not the default ASPNETDB. I have been trying to host my website on Go Daddy for about 3 weeks and I have cleared several problems but this one remains. I can get into the ASPNETDB database for doing logins , etc but I cant access my database called "PINEmgt". To try to understand where the problem is located,I built a very simple application without login controls and put on it one Detailform accessing a single line table "Signin". I continually get the error message I got with my real app :"The connection name 'PINEMgtConnectionString2' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty. " There is only one connection string in my app -'PINEMgtConnectionString2'. When I run the app locally on my machine it works. After I move everything to Go Daddy, I get the error message and the following dump"
Line 24: </Fields> Line 25: </aspetailsView> Line 26: <aspqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStringsINEMgtConnectionString2 %>" Line 27: InsertCommand="INSERT INTO Signup(first_name, last_name, email, customer_id) VALUES (,,,)" Line 28: SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Signup]"></aspqlDataSource>
This is indeed the code from my single page app.
The dump is:
[InvalidOperationException: The connection name 'PINEMgtConnectionString2' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty.] System.Web.Compilation.ConnectionStringsExpressionBuilder.GetConnectionString(String connectionStringName) +3039085 ASP.default_aspx.__BuildControlSqlDataSource1() in d:hostinguck7scoutDefault.aspx:26 ASP.default_aspx.__BuildControlform1() in d:hostinguck7scoutDefault.aspx:10 ASP.default_aspx.__BuildControlTree(default_aspx __ctrl) in d:hostinguck7scoutDefault.aspx:1 ASP.default_aspx.FrameworkInitialize() in d:hostinguck7scoutDefault.aspx.vb:912306 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +40 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest() +86 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestWithNoAssert(HttpContext context) +18 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) +49 ASP.default_aspx.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) +29 System.Web.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +303 System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64
After Googleing, asking Go Daddy for info (which they dont give) , etc for three weeks, I need serious mental help in the form of a solution of this problem. Your help with the problem or the name of a good mental health professional in eastern N.C. (maybe both) would be appreciated.
I have seen another thread with this same problem, but the problem seemed to be a typo. I am getting an error when I try to access the web site ..

However, in my web.config file I do have a connection named USASH-AS0013. Here is my web.config file (with my user/pwd hidden). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a package that uses a for loop to iterate through an unknown amount of excel files and pull their data into a table. However, there will be cases when the file is corrupted or has some sort of problem so that either the transformation will fail or the excel data source will fail with an oledb connection error. Could anyone suggest a clean way to trap these errors? Specifically, the "Cannot Aquire Connection from Connection Manager", which is the excel connection.
I am running the Sept CTP. I have created a SSIS package that pulls data from a text file and inserts into a database. When I run the package on the DB server it runs fine. I have moved the package the the web server (we are attempting to kick off the package from a web site) and we get connections errors. We are running the package using dtexec from the command line.

This is a new SQL Server 2005 cluster that we just installed for the first time, with SP2. I am trying to use a stored procedure with xp_cmdshell to run a script to backup the databases. I get the following error: locked access to procedure 'sys.xp_cmdshell' of component 'xp_cmdshell' because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of 'xp_cmdshell' by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling 'xp_cmdshell', see "Surface Area Configuration" in SQL Server Books Online.
So I started Surface Area Configuration on the local SQL Server itself, and clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features". I then got the following error: "Failed to connect to localhost. (Mirosoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) Additional information: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)
I am logged onto the server as a user with Admin privs; I installed SQL Server using that id. I am logged in via remote connection, so I know it allows remote connections... and I am logged into the server itself when I try to run the tool, so I don't understand why it's saying that it's trying to connect remotely.
Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? Thanks for any help you can give.
I created a single step plan that does integrity checks. It fails with the error below. I created a new connection using our clusters virtual sql name.

Hi All, I am getting the following error if I am using the package "Transaction Option=Required" while running through Sql Job: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<connection name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
while I running the SSIS package on BI environment, I am getting the following error: [Connection manager "<connection name>"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
I know the alternative solution is to make the "Transaction Option=Supported", but in my case I have run the whole flow in a single transaction. I came to know that this has been fixed in the service pack1(ref. to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914375). FYI.. some time it was running successful.
I have taken all the necessary step to run the SSIS package in a distributed transaction(like the steps for MSDTC) and also created the package flow in a sequence.
I was going through the link - http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=160340&SiteID=1 but all those didn't solve my problem.
If anyone can help me it will be great. or it is a bug in SSIS?
I am working in a distributed environment, I verified msgs have been successfully send from server1 db1 to server2 db2, but I still get the following error msg from the sender server through SQL profile:
Connection attempt failed with error: '10061(No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)'.
hi all, i got the error, when i run my package after deploy into the server machine; i can able to run that package in my local machine, if i deploy it to the server or some remote machine, its not running, and rises error messages, that says cant accquire connection from the connection manager;
the problem might be with the login name and password; i could not see any password in any of my config file, or connection manager while running the package. how to resolve this problem?? please help me!
When I boot my computer (Windows Home Premium 64bit) there is a pop up that says "Configuration System failed to initialize" and I don't know what might cause this..
I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) and then applied SQL SP2. When I launch the "SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration" and choose "Surface Area Configuration for Features" I'm trying to enable xp_cmdshell.
After ticking the checkbox, and clicking Apply, I receive the error below. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Back home at my office I built an ASP.net app that successfully connected to my SQL Server 2000 database, which resides on a different computer from my laptop, which is my development machine.
I'm now traveling and wanted to keep on working. So I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and successfully restored my database on it. But I'm having problems making the initial connection to the database.
In the Web.config file I have these pertinent variables:
And back home, everything works fine. So I thought the obvious thing to change was the value of "DataBaseServer". My laptop's name is "RMDW" so I first tried that. Didn't work. Then I tried "RMDWSQLEXPRESS". Didn't work. Then I tried "localhost". Didn't work. Finally I tried "localhostSQLEXPRESS". Didn't work.
I'm thinking that perhaps I have the syntax wrong. But also, when I did install SQL Express I chose "Windows Authentication" mode and am thinking now that I shouldn't have.
Might anyone have any ideas to help me resolve this?
