Connection Problem To Informix From SQL Server 2005 With Unicode Data
Dec 5, 2007
I have Informix 9.4TC6 and SQL Server 2005.
DB_LOCALE in Informix DB is en_US.utf8 (en_US.57372).
First, I created DSN to Informix. Then tried to get data with WinSql
tool and it works fine.
But when I created linked server in SQL Server 2005 I have problems
with languages other than English.
I get a string like:
è 'å· å-å|å·¥æ¥æ ªå1/4 ä1/4ç€3/4
It seems to me that SQL Server splits 2-byte characters in 2 1-byte
characters.
If in options of linked server we set Collation Name to exact
language
we want --then string data will be correct (of course only of
language that we choose).
Do you have any suggestions?????????
P.S. I don't want to use SSIS (DTS) for extraction from Informix DB
I am following the SSIS overview video- URL...I have a flat file that i want to import the contents onto a SQL database.I created a Dataflow task, source file and oledb destination.I am getting the folliwung error -"column "A" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types".in the origin file the data type is coming as string[DT_STR] and in the destination object it is coming as "Unicode string [DT_WSTR]"I used a data conversion object in between, dosent works very well
I have an SSIS package that pulls data from a MYSQL DB (Using RSSBus for Salesforce in SSIS to accomplish this). Most of the columns are loading properly, but I have many columns that I need to convert.
I have been using the Data Conversion dataflow task in SSIS to convert the rows.
I have 2 data conversions that work on most of the columns, but the DESCRIPTION column continues to return an error saying "Cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode types", regardless of what I choose on the Data Conversion task. So, basically I want to dump this column data into a SQL table with NVARCHAR datatypes. Here is what I am doing in my SSIS package...
1) Grab subset of data from SOURCE 2) Converts to TEXTSTREAM. (Data Conversion) 3) Converts to STRING. (Data Conversion) 4) Load Destination table. (OLE DB Destination)
I have also tried to simply convert the values to STRING, but that doesn't work either.
So, I have 2 Data Conversions working here that process most of the data correctly. What I can do to load the DESCRIPTION column?
I've had some great headaches with SSIS this morning, which I have managed to get a workarounds for, but I'm not happy with them so I've come to ask for advice.
Basically, I am exporting data from an SQL Server database into an Excel spreadsheet and hitting issues with unicode and non-unicode data types.
For example, I have a column that is char(6) and have added a data conversion step to the data flow, which converts it to type DT_WSTR and then everything works!
However, this seems like a completely un-neccessary step as I should be able to do the conversion in T-SQL - but no matter what I try I keep getting the same problem.
SELECT Cast(employee_number As nvarchar(255)) As [employee_number] FROM employee WHERE forename = 'george'
ErrorValidation error. details: 1 [1123]: Column "employee_number" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.
I know I have a solution (read: workaround) but I really don't want to do this everytime!
I have an Excel Source component hooked to an OLE DB Destination component in my SSIS 2005 Data Flow Task. After I mapped the excel columns to the OLE DB table columns i get these errors below. I noticed that for the first error, the Excel Field format (when you mouse over the column name in the mappings section in OLE DB component) is of type [DTWSTR] and the corresponding SQL field from my SQL table that it's mapping to is of type [DT_STR] when mousing over that field in the mappings in the properties of my OLE DB component. All table fields in SQL Server for the table I'm inserting into are of type varchar.

I use Visual Studio's, integration project to load XML file into SQL Server. In the XML file, i have defined collumns as string. When i try to load XML file with parts defined in scheme as string, i get an error "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data type.
Destinated collumns in SQL are defined as varchar and char.
I have spent countless number of hours trying to solve the issue, but to no vail. My problem is SSIS throws "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types" when i am try to transform data from DB2 to SQL Server 2005. And please note, i tried all possibilities like changing the destination field which is in SQL Server 2005 to nvarchar and also text. But so far no help. And i also looked at previous posts which did not help me either.
I am transferring the data from sql server 2005 to Informix 7.3.1 SE using SSIS .
I am using the OLEDB data connection for both source as well as destination databases.
I am trying to mapping the source and destination tables .I am getting the following error.
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio ------------------------------ Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Destination [184]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. I am using the following ODBC driver for the connecting INFORMIX 7.3.1 which is running on LINUX environment. Openlink Generic ODBC Driver
It's creates the table in the informix 7.3.1 but it's not mapping the source and destination databases columns.
Our entire sales database sits on an Informix server and users run their reports directly to this server.
Because of the volume of data - upwards of 7 million rows in some tables we are finding performance is becoming an issue. We realise that Informix is not the best for running queries and so are looking to replicate to a SQL server and use that as a reporting server.
My chosen method is DTS using ODBC which works fine. However due to the sheer volume of data to be downloaded each night (over a 512K wan link) we only want to download changed data.
Is there any way we can get SQL2000 to download only change data - i.e a differential download or something? We don't have a unique field in the table (for whatever reason) such as sales date or transaction ID (shops might upload old / back-dated transactions for example due to a systems failure).
If I do have to download all the data every night is my method the most efficient or is there some other approach I could use?
Ultimatly the aim here is to relieve the Informix server of the reporting overhead so any alternative ideas are welcome!
I need to transfer seven tables from Informix DB to SQL Server every night. Any suggestions for the best way of doing it? Is DTS the best way? How about through replication?
Hi all, we are now planning to upgrade our application from anon-unicode version to a unicode version. The application's backend isa SQL Server 2000 SP3.The concern is, existing business data are stored using collation"Chinese_PRC_CI_AS", i.e. Simplified Chinese. So I thought we need toextract these data out to the new SQL Server which is using Unicode (Iassume it means converting them to nchar, nvarchar type of fields for Idon't enough information from the application side, or is there ageneral unicode collation that will make even char and varchar types tostore data as Unicode?).The problem is what's the best and most efficient way to do this dataconversion?bcp? DTS? or others?thanks a lot
I am trying to use SSIS to read a flat file into an Informix table.
When I create a OLEDB connection manager, I can connect to the DB. When I do test connection I get successful back. But when I close the manager & come back, the PW is gone. I have tried unselecting Blank Password and clicking the Save Password button.
When I try to get a list of tables in the SQL destination object, it won't work and gripes about the missing PW
hello, everyone.i meet a problem about that the data source is informix database, the text of OLE DB connection is success, but in OLE DB source control table can not loading, why? How to settle it?
or it can say by this way,how to connect informix DB
I'm trying to use the recently released native driver for PHP to connect to our SQL Server 2000 database, but it garbles any Unicode (nvarchar or ntext) data. I didn't see any mention of Unicode in the API document, but am hoping there is some hidden configuration or option to enable Unicode support. Has anyone gotten this to work with Unicode?
I create websit (ASP.NET) using Visual Studio.Net 2005 and SQL Server 2005 express. I'm working in Thailand I want to store information such as user name in Thai format into SQL Server 2005 Express. I already try but doesn't work.
We have recently been looking into creating our SQL Server 2005 database as a unicode database using UTF-8 encoding. However initial search's suggest that SQL Server 2005 does not support the creation of UTF-8 db's and only supports UCS-2. Is this the case? If so then why is it not supported as most other vendors (Oracle, IBM) support it. If it is possible to create a UTF-8 database could you provide some details on how to go about this?
way to read data from database already stored as question marks .that because by mistake i insert the data "arabic" from  the VS as sqltext but the field in the database is nvarchar now i want to get the data back.
SELECTI.xmlParam.query('./NAME').value('.','NVARCHAR(25)') NAME ,I.xmlParam.query('./NUMBER').value('.','NVARCHAR(25)') NUMBER FROM@XMLVAR.nodes('POLICY_SEARCH') AS I(xmlParam)
hello there! i have a problem importing data from a remote connection using Sybase ASE ODBC driver(the sybase odbc driver is the only way we can access the database from the remote connection, we've already tried this in crystal reports). in the sql server import export wizard i chose the .net framework data provider for odbc. then below the wizard requires the following info: the connection string, DSN and driver. i specified the correct driver and dsn. in the connection string i specified the user id and the server name but it still produces error. the error says:
the operation could not be completed.

My task is to convert this Informix SQl Script to SQL 2005, unfortunately I am not really familiar with Informix SQL. Below is an example script. I can figure out the "Select" statement and the "Where" statement, but the "From" statement is giving me a hard time. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

We've been using SQL Server 2005 for a while as the db for our web app. Everything has been working fine, until yesterday when we started getting a "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. (System.Data)" error message when trying to connect from SQL Server Management Studio or from our web app. This only happens when trying to connect remotely, although remote connections have worked for us perfectly in the past. The full error message is reproduced below. Thanks ahead of time for any help. ===================================Cannot connect to serverName===================================Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. For the following ADO Connection::Execute() function the "recAffected" is zero, after a successful insertion of data, in SQL Server 2005. In SQL Server Express I am getting the the number of records affected value correctly.
BEGIN DELETE FROM MyTable WHERE Column_1 IN ('abc', 'def' ) END BEGIN INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 ) SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12' UNION ALL SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22' END
But see this, for SQL Server 2005 "recAffected" has the correct value of 2 when I have just the insert statement.
INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 ) SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12' UNION ALL SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22'
For SQL Server 2005 in both cases the table got successfully inserted two rows and the HRESULT of Execute() function returns S_OK.
Does the Execute function has any problem with a statement like the first one (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB?
Why the "recAffected" has a value zero for the first SQL (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB? Do I need to pass any options to Execute() function for a SQL Server 2005 DB?
When connecting to SQL Server Express the "recAffected" has the correct values for any type of SQL statements.
Thank you for your time. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to import data from an Informix Database to my SQL Server 2005 database with the import/export wizard. I have an ODBC-connection that works, Access fetches data with no errors. From the wizard I can only choose to use the IBM Informix OLE DB Provider as datasource. As fare as I know the OLE DB Provider is using settings from the ODBC-driver?
In SQL Server 2000 there is a posibillity to choose Other(ODBC provider) as datasource which works against this database. Any ideas how i can use an ODBC-datasource?
If I try to use the IBM Informix OLE DB Provider I get an error message after the first step of the wizard:
Cannot get the supported data types from the database connection "Provider=Ifxoledbc;Password=;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=uid;Data Source=db@server".
In my package , I am used CDC Source transformation and received the Net changes then insert into Destination. But whatever Data coming from CDC source data type Varchar value needs to Converting Non Unicode string to Unicode string SSIS. So used Data conversion transformation to achieved this.  I need to achieve this without data conversion.
