I'm using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on a Win2003 x64. I want to connect to a Teradata 2.6, but there are no x64 ODBC- or OLE-DB-drivers for Teradata yet. So, only OLE-DB can't be used as the 32-Bit OLE-DB-driver for Teradata is not visible e.g. if you want to create a linked-server-connection. One workaround would be to use "OLE-DB for ODBC", but this OLE-DB is also not available on my system.
Does anybody know a way to connect SQL 2005 x64 to Teradata or to get "OLE-DB for ODBC" up and running???

I am trying to set up the Linked 2005 Server to Teradata v2r5, and have got most of the way there. My problem is that using both methods (OPENQUERY and SELECT with 4-part naming string) seems to submit only the SELECT * part to Teradata with the rest of the SQL waiting until the data is all pulled back to SQL Server. This is a problem when working with big tables! It puts a huge strain on the network, and also runs me out of temp space in Teradata. Is there a way to get ALL the SQL passed to Teradata? I am looking to create a Report Model for Report Builder or Pro-Clarity. I have a dummy SQL Server 2005 database set up with views of the Teradata tables through the Linked Server. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
SP2 for SQL Server 2005 x64 has been less than happy for me.
The initial problem, mentioned in another thread, concerned SSIS client which stopped liking Data Flow components. It was solved by a removal and reinstallation of the client tools.
However, there now seems to be a problem with making use of the Teradata oledb provider within SSIS. Prior to the installation of SP2 there was no problem.
I create a new SSIS package Add a Data Flow component Within the data flow add an oledb source Create a new connection - using the Teradata oledb provider Test the connection (it works!) Use SQL something like "select * from some_teradata_table_on_the_TD_server" Click on columns, wait a second, a list of columns is returned Add a SQL Server destination (with a new SQL Server connection) Connect the two components Save the package
Click go The TD oledb source component turns bright red and the error is "class not registered"
I have uninstalled the TD oledb provider (and underlying TD components) and re-installed (32-bit and 64-bit) - no change
Hi I have a problem to connect to TeraData from SSIS. I have the TeraData client (Query Man) that I connect to the TeraData using ODBC connection. When I connect with Query Man I can see the objects (views) of the correct scheme. However, when I try to connect with SSIS using the same ODBC connection €“ I don€™t see the objects of the specific scheme. The way that I connect to TeraData using SSIS is creating DS connection (with odbc) and then I create DSV €“ where this is the point that I can see lots of other schemes objects, but not the scheme€™s objects that I can see in the Query Man. Can anyone assist?

Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. Note that I do not want to use the "Attach a database file" type of connection string. Note that I am using the site http://www.ConnectionStrings.com as a reference. Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. I'm trying to connect to Desktop SQL Server 2000 from Windows mobile PC Emulator (VS 2005). I need a direct connection using connection string to SQL Server 2000 through local wireless network without IIS.
Bellow is the code that I use. After executing this code I get an error on line Conn.Open(). Error says SQL Server does not exist or access denied. SQL is un and running, and I can log in using SA username from the desktop. Even if I chance IP for another SQL server in my connection string I still get the same error. There is no firewall of any kind running.

When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.

I do not have any aliases set up

In a Web app as per above, where are connections to SQL Server and the connection pool monitored? Is it in SQL Server itself?For example, in the following connection string:"Server=(local); Database=TranOps; " + "Integrated Security=SSPI;" + "Pooling = true;" + "Min Pool Size = 1;" + "Max Pool Size = 5;" + "Persist Security Info=False;";The first user accesses a web form, and the connection is opened, and the pool started, then the connection is closed. I think at this point there should be five connections available.When the second user accesses their web form, and connects using exactly the same string, it seems that if the connection is requested within a certain time frame of the first, one of the original five connections will be 'opened', or more correctly drawn from the pool, and used. If I am understanding this correctly, then the pool must be maintained by SQL Server, not by anything in the web application. Is this a correct interpretation? Many thanks,Mike Thomas
Hi! I have this problem: When I try to open database table under database explorer in VWD 2005 EE, it says that it failed to attempt connection due to user instance and the connection will be closed.
When I try to right click on my database's file name under database explorer and click connection to set the connection setting and click on "Test Connection", it says the same thing.

Hi, I have a VBA Application that uses ADO 2.8 to connect SQL Server 2005 standard edition thru SQL Native Client. The data update is done for every minute basis with 20 timers events that fires for every 1 minute and all timers start at same time. SQL Server database has merge replication that synchronizes in every 10 minutes. VBA Application calls stored procedure to insert record. The system was running fine, but since a week VBA application is often getting an error states "Query Timed Out" , "The transaction active in this session has been committed or aborted by another session.".

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition. I have two SQL Server instances installed. 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLTSQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance) But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error: Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925 I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default) and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLTSQL2005". But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this I use Microsoft Windows Vista Home Professional I have already installed to my computer Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and SQL Serves Express. I used to be successful to connect to the SQL Server but now I CAN NOT.
Not: I try to run SQL Server 2005 but I can not, even I logged on to my computer with an administrator rights. On the other hand I can start and stop the SQL Server Express easily.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005 Express, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:
