Hello, I am having problems adding a database to my current program. I am running Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition at the moment, with the .Net framework 2.0, and Microsft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I have not upgraded yet. The problem happens, as I stated above, happens when I try to add an SQL Database to my application. (Below is the error message "*') I have looked in the forums for several hours, and tried what others have done. I still seem to be having a problem. Adding a database earlier (about 6 months before) worked. My guess is an update I installed, but the question is finding the one that created the problem.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition. I have two SQL Server instances installed. 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLTSQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance) But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error: Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925 I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default) and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLTSQL2005". But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

I have SQL Server Developer installed with instance name MSSQLSERVER. Previously, I uninstalled SQL Express and installed Developer edition and can now open and utilize Management Studio.

I've created a linked server (and set up the corresponding schema.ini file) in order to perform bulk-inserts from some CSV text files into SQL tables (from my standpoint the text files are just for reading purposes). The linked server works fine (I can select the data in the files without a problem).
Now the question: is possible to automatically detect when one or more of those files change in order to start the import process automatically? Something like having a trigger created on the CSV files Or there's no easy way to do that so I have, to say something, to create a Job that periodically checks if the files have changed programatically (say, recording each file's timestamp everytime is imported and comparing the recorded value with the current one, or whatever)?
I have a webpage where I want to upload pdf files to my database (arround 2 MB). Putting them inside the database is the choice based on audit definitions the client has.The problem is that for big file uploads, I get the "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." error.I believe the solution is expanding the connection timeout time in the SQL connection. But I don't want to do that in web.config, as a small timeout is good for every page except this one.What I was thinking about was something like, on button command:- "create new connection string"- use that connection string to upload the file using the datatables and tableadapters- turn back to the default connection string. How do I explicitly tell the system to "use THIS connection string on the next task" ?Alternatively, another way of doing is also appreciated!
I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.
It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?
in asp usually i have code behind files those .aspx.vb file.can i make use of connection strings in there? i am not really familiar with connection strings. actually shouldn't code behind files "simulate" code being in the .aspx file themselves? i seem to not able to share variables between them?
€™m just starting out with SSIS and am trying to establish architecture standards that are sound and workable. We will be developing BI solutions for customers who use our banking and finance package that runs on an IBM System i. Modularity is important as all our BI solutions will have a combination of re-used functionality along with varying degrees of unique functionality for each customer. My current area of interest is in externalizing all environmental factors and ensuring such things as passwords are protected.
I understand how configuration files work and how to use environment variables to provide a layer of indirection to them. At this stage we want to avoid encryption of packages and plan to use file system based deployment. We plan to use windows security for SQL server so I have no issue in exposing connection info here but for our DB2 connections we need to include user id and passwords. As I understand it, configuration files can not be encrypted so how do I store this externally while preserving its security. Nothing I have read so far has given me exactly what I need.
I have used the SSIS import/export wizard to create a transfer from one database to another.
Q1: Why are some files from this wizard stored in the the temp folder ?
Example: C:Documents and SettingspbhLocal SettingsTemp
This is extreemly unuseful when checking in the solution in tfs since these files will not be saved.
Q2: I have tried to move these files and manually edit the location for these file references in the dtsx package file. However: The connection string wants an absolute path for the files..
Example:

How can I refer to $project$ mp1ea.tmp, a relative path to the project directory instead?

The package I am developing is supposed to loop through this table checking for files with ProcessFlag = TRUE. For those files, it will load all of the records/columns (prefaced with the company and period keys) into a common table.
Do I have to manually create data sources for each file or is there a way to dynamically define the connection and process the connection?

How do you go about setting up configuration files to control connection strings when SSIS packages are migrated from a test environment to a production environment? Specifically, changing the server you are connecting to and possibly different login and password.
I have several SSIS packages, some of which retrieve data from excel files - they work fine from th VS designer until I try to store configurations in a SQL database - then I get the following error:

How to create a text file in UNIX format using Flat File connection manager. By default when we create a connection manager for flat files it is taking "CRLF" as the delimeter.
I beleive the format of the file will be decided based on the control line feed character at the end of each row. There are different control line feeds for different operating systems.
CR - Mac OS (Carraige return) LF - UNIX (Line Feed) CRLF - Windows. (Carriage return Line Feed)
I have a table with embedded files in it and also ftp server/user/pwd fields so that each record has all the data and information required and need to configure an SSIS package to to FTP them to the destination as specified in the record within the databaseAt the moment I have a data flow task which uses a Derived Column and an Export Column transformation which creates the files to a temp folder then it runs a ForEach loop container back on the control flow to FTP each file and to then move each file to an archive folder.
All I think I need to know how to do is to somehow control the FTP connection settings with the fields from the database within this foreach loop, but it is a for each file collection. I also need to update each record saying it has been FTP'd as well Do I need to have an initial query outside of this foreach loop to populate an array which can be used for the 4 FTP connection fields (server/user/pwd/directory), if so how?
Any ideas as to how to correctly finish this package.
Hi everyone - I'm getting myself into a right muddle and am looking for advice.
How do people deal with connection string matters when taking a dataset defined in one assembly (and by default using the connection strings defined within that assembly in the settings files) and then using that assembly in an app (which also has a requirement to see the same physical database).
I'm not sure I've explained that terribly well but what I'm trying to avoid is duplicate copies of my database which so far seems to be the only way that I've managed to make stuff work. I'm not very experienced with SSCE data access (I'm a serices/sockets/ip person) and this may just be ignorance. Most of the examples seem to assume that the data is in the same place as the app whereas I'm trying to collate a whole series of functions into a helper assembly that I'd like to re-use for other things.
Ideally the dataset designer would provide an easy way of choosing from centralised connection strings - perhaps this is what the Dataset Project implies - but again the docs are mostly focused on SQL Server? Otherwise the best I've been able to do is make the connection properties public and try to update them that way or use a post-build action to copy the database from my datalayer project directory to that of my application |DataDirectory|
I suppose the question might be if you have a dataset containing multiple tableadapters that assumes one connection string, is there any easy way to keep such strings co-ordinated between projects without hardcoding them? With a server resource, the same non-specific connection string resolves to the same server (if that make sense) and this seems to be were I can't make the logical shift.
Does anyone have any thoughts and can they please point this SSCE noob in the right direction?
I have deployed to production a number of nested packages (parent packages that call child packages) to the SQL msdb via the Save As option rather than building a deployment utility. These packages reference configuration files in a static location off of the c: drive on the production server. In the development environment, when connection changes are made and I run the Reload with Upgrade option the connection manager takes on the new server and user id settings. However, out on the production side I get the following error from the SQL job log:
Cannot load the XML configuration file. The XML configuration file may be malformed or not valid.
As a result the SQL job uses the default connection information which references the development database rather than the production database. I did research the error but found no good solutions. Is there a way to ensure the configuration files are formed correctly and that the packages are correctly referencing the configuration files? We are trying to run the ETL updates via a SQL job.
Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. Occasionally I'm seeing the following error when tranlog or full backup maintenance plan is executing.
Failed-1073573396) Failed to acquire connection "Local server connection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
What is strange is that it goes away without any action from myself. We have a tranlog backup that is scheduled every hour. I had this error happen once in the middle of the night. It looks like the job was running fine because almost all the backups are there. I've searched and not found a resolution to this error. I checked the event log and don't see any issues and even tried rebuilding the maintenance plans.
Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. Note that I am using the "SQL Native Client OLE DB Provider", SQL Sever 2005 Express, ASP.NET, C#.NET, and VS.NET 2005. Note that I do not want to use the "Attach a database file" type of connection string. Note that I am using the site http://www.ConnectionStrings.com as a reference. Note that this "Standard security" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Uid=MyDatabaseUser;Pwd=MyDatabasePassword;" />...does not work and causes the following run-time error...A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. QUESTIONS... (A) What exactly does the error in Item 4 mean? (B) Do 4 and 5 imply that one must use a Trusted_Connection for all SQL Server 2005 Express connection strings when the database does not reside in the web application's App_Data folder or use a "Attach a database file" type of connection string? (C) Are there any alternatives? (D) What do you suggest?
When using jdbc with IntegratedSecurity, I run into this problem when the machine is not part of a domain & gets its IP address via dhcp. Is this expected behavior or a bug in the jdbc driver.
The SQLServer and client application are installed on the same machine and a local admin is logged in, running the client app.
If I change one of the two parameters mentioned above, the connection can be established leading me to believe this may be intentional for security issues. Am I correct?
I created a single step plan that does integrity checks. It fails with the error below. I created a new connection using our clusters virtual sql name.

The agent and db are running under domain accounts and the job is owned by sa.
Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. Let me set the stage of my testbed configuration: On Windows XP SP2, my default connection to the Internet is via wireless express card modem using EV-DO via Verizon Wireless. Let's call this connection A. I also have a traditional wireless network connection (802.11g) that is always enabled. Let's call this connection B. Connection A is always connected during normal business hours. Connection B is not and is often searching for a wireless network to connect to when nothing is in range.
Yesterday, connection B was continuously trying to connect to a wireless network not under my control, meaning that the connection was never established and notification messages continually popped up to complain of this fact. Over time, I've learned to ignore these messages and go on doing my daily work without much thought of the possible implications.
Then, things started to get odd. I was running our application, WebWatchBot, to perform some simple tests of various websites and servers, when I started to get messages from the application that database connectivity was lost, which is a message that pops up to inform the user that the connection is forcibly dropped by SQL Server. After a few moments, the connection to the database was re-established and the message went away. Since I was actually working with SQL Server, I thought it was an anomoly, so I continued on. Then, it happened again. And again. Then, I noticed that the "database connectivity lost" message started to coincide with the wireless connection's (connection B) inability to connect with a wireless network.
Why would this be happening? The database and application are on the same exact computer. The connection to the database is via ODBC drivers over tcp/ip, but why would connection B affect this?

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.
MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.
The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.
(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.
