Consuming Oracle (9G) In SSIS On X64 Server

Nov 25, 2007

Hi,

I believe this question has been covered quite a bit, but none the less I wanted to ask it as I still have no resolution at the moment. I am consuming a table from Oracle which has a data type of NUMBER. When I use a .Net Provider to consume the data, the SCALE defaults to 0 for these select columns and thus we lose any decimal point information for these columns. I have tried using both the .Net Provider and the .Net for OLEDB providers for ORACLE. Both seem to suffer from this. The SSIS server itself is a Win 03' server on x64 hardware architecture. Also, when trying to use the Oracle Provider for OLEDB it throws a design-time error stating "Error in Initializing Provider".

Thanks!

Consuming WCF Service With Complex Data Type In SSIS

Oct 9, 2007

Hi,

Need a guidance on consuming the WCF service with complex type in the SSIS package.
I have a WCF service with complex type inside the complex type (Nested complex type) in the web method as an argument. When I try to use this WCF service in the SSIS web service task, I get an error "The web method has unsupported arguments".

I am able to consume the WCF service with the web method having Complex type and simple/prmitive type in side that as argument.

For example:

The web method in WCF service which accepts the argument as comlex type say "Employee" whose structure is:

Employee
{
FName String;
LName String;
Age int
}

It is possible to consume this WCF service and pass the arguments.

But when the Employee complex type is changed to have one more complex type in side it it give the above mentioned error. The Employee type is modified as:

Employee
{
FName String;
LName String;
Age String
Type EmployeeType;
}

EmployeeType
{
type string;
}

Now I get the error Web Method has unsupported arguments.

Can this be done in SSIS?

Sql Server Consuming 100% CPU

Nov 22, 2007

Hi,

We've been using Sql Server 2005 for some time now and we've found it to be stable and pretty much bug free, well done! (as opposed to Oracle 10g, which is bug-ridden) I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but it felt like the best place to start. Please move my post if it is not correct.

In the last few weeks we've had a very serious problem; whenever we try to execute our upgrade scripts the CPU usage spikes to 100%. And then every insert takes > 0.5 seconds. Needless to say, but I'll do it anyway, this is a huge problem. Some of our scripts have > 100 000 inserts, so the upgrade process takes "forever".

At this point it might be useful to talk just briefly about how we use our Sql Server; We have an application that is configured via the database (we support Sql Server and Oracle) and so we use the database for a lot more than just a "dumb" datastore. We do massive amounts of insert/update for every version of our application and we add new tables quite often. We have a build system, using TFSBuild, where we do nightly builds. That build will drop the current database (example of name: MONDAY, TUESDAY etc.) and restore it again using an image. Then we upgrade the new database to the most current version of our scripts. On our Sql Server 2005 server we have 4 such databases so the process is repeated 4 times each night. And since we build our database using a baseline image and scripts (both stored in source control) we do not need backups of the databases, so no backup plan is running. I'm only mentioning that because we've had a theory that this might be the cause of our problems...

So, does anybody have an idea how we might go about solving this?

Loading Data From Oracle To SQL Server Using SSIS

Mar 7, 2007

Ok, we have built a data mart using SSIS etc...for transformations and loading.

Our biggest single problem we have currently is loading data from an Oracle server to our SQL server. Some tables from oracle run fine when retrieving the data but there is one particular table that just doesn't load fast enough (9 million records take over 12 hours). It seems that we are idling alot and its not always running.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Recommendations For Oracle Access From SSIS 64-bit Server?

Dec 3, 2006

We're having issues with Microsoft's 64 bit Oracle OLE-DB driver... when we escalated to Microsoft PSS they recommended that we go with Oracle's OLE-DB driver since Microsoft's hasn't been modified in a few years.

I've seen a lot of differing opinions on this topic (almost everyone says do not use Oracle's driver) and am wondering if there's a definitive answer here.

SSIS Oracle --&&> SQL Server Import Fails

Sep 6, 2006

Im getting the following error when I try to export from Oracle 9i and import into SQL Server 2005 using Oracle and SQL OLE DB Provider's respectively.

Cannot retrieve the column code page infor from the OLE DB Provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property value will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

I know there is a way to change the property settings for the OLE DB Provider in the Data flow section of the development studio BUT ...

1) Is there a way to change this outside of the development studio?

2) I can't create the package to setup in the studio because even when I uncheck execute immediately and check save package, it still fails and never creates anything.

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

Connecting To Oracle 9i Server Using ODBC From An SSIS Package

Sep 7, 2006

I am trying to connect to a Oracle 9i Server to execute a sql task, but the connection when tested seems to fail with the following error from the Integration Services Project:

Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ERROR [NA000][Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

ERROR[IM006][Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

ERROR[0100][Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager] The driver does not support the version of ODBC behavior that the application requested (see SQLSetEnvAttr).

The connection was configured and tested from Oracle's SQLPlus session. Please note that the port that the TNS Server is listening is not the default. Is there somewhere I can specify the port in the SSIS connection manager to resolve the issue.

I have tried OLEDB connection and that does not work either.

Any inputs will be appreciated.

Thanks,

SQL Server 2008 :: Using SSIS To Pull Oracle Data Into XML Field

Jul 1, 2015

We have a custom web C#/SQL2K8R2 workflow application that I need to pull Oracle data into a varchar(max) field as an XML DOM document. I have no problem pulling the Oracle data using OLEDB, but I'm not sure how to create the XML DOM doc. Once I get it into the DOM doc, I then need to assign metadata about the XML DOM doc and insert it all into a staging table:

CREATE TABLE [stg].[EtlImports](
[EtlImportId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[EtlSource] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[EtlType] [varchar](50) NULL,
[EtlDefn] [varchar](max) NULL, --Either a SQL statement or path to file on disk
[EtlData] [varchar](max) NULL, --BLOB field to hold the XML data or FILESTREAM path to file on disk
[EtlDateLanded] [datetime] NOT NULL,
[EtlDateProcessed] [datetime] NULL,
[EtlStatus] [varchar](50) NULL,
[Comments] [varchar](4000) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]

I will have a separate SSIS package to pull the [XML/File] field and process the data into the workflow tables. Is there a wasy I can use the ADO Record-set Destination task to accomplish this, or do I have to create a custom C# script to create the XML DOM Doc?

Error Retrieving Numeric Data From Oracle 10g On 64 Bit Itanium SSIS Server

Feb 1, 2007

I am working on a project to write SSIS packages to update a SQL Server 2005 database with data from an Oracle 10g database. Unfortunately, our development ETL box is running 32 bit Windows Server 2003 while the production ETL box is running 64 bit Itanium Windows Server 2003. We have created SQL Server Agent jobs to execute all of our packages. All of our jobs run without error on the 32 bit development box, but in our preproduction tests they are failing in the 64 bit box.

In my testing, I've found that I can successfully pull character data from Oracle. For example, I can write a package that retrieves the data for the following query:

SELECT 'test' FROM dual

However, the following fails:

SELECT 1 FROM dual

I have logging turned on in my package. When the package fails, I typically see informational messages in the log up to the point of failure, but no actual error event logs are generated. The only error information I have is in the SQL Server Agent job history log, which contains the following:

Executed as user: SERVERNAMESYSTEM. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was
-2147483646. The step failed.

I have also tried using the 64 bit version of the DTS Wizard to create a sample package, and observe the same behavior. When I run the DTS Wizard, queries that return numeric data cause DTSWizard.exe to exit and produce the following message in the application event log:

Event

Building A Truly Platform Agnostic SSIS Package (SQL Server And Oracle Interop)

May 18, 2007

As painful as it is proving out to be, I am trying to create a single package that is vendor neutral between SQL Server and Oracle.

At first, I thought that as long as I was going OLEDB in and out, and I ensured that my SQL syntax was generic enough, I'd be OK.

Well, not exactly. I am finding there is more to this. Specifically, metadata gets generated differently based on the source/targets.

For example, on an OLE DB Source task, datatypes will vary (i.e. NUMBER in Oracle vs Int in SQL). The job here is to pick the common denominator for the SSIS specific type. Time consuming, but doable, I think.

Another issue is on an OLE DB Desitnation. If you choose Table for Data Access Mode, this value gets written to the dtsx XML file. So, even when both RDBMS have the same schema (which is an obvious prereq) if choosing SQL Server "dbo.DimTable" will get written to the file and for Oracle "SCHEMA.DIMTABLE" will get written.

So, I am am wondering, what is the best way to address this?

My inital thought was using a dtsConfig file (which I am already using extensively) and set the target table names accordingly. This approach would have the added benefit of allowing for post-deployment configuration changes should a table name change, for example.

This section of the dtsx file shows the values of interest:

Code Snippet
<component id="138" name="OLE_DST_DimTable" componentClassID="{E2568105-9550-4F71-A638-B7FE42E66922}" description="OLE DB Destination" localeId="-1" usesDispositions="true" validateExternalMetadata="True" version="4" pipelineVersion="0" contactInfo="OLE DB Destination;Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft SqlServer v9; (C) 2005 Microsoft Corporation; All Rights Reserved; http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">
<properties>
<property'>http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">
<properties>
<property id="139" name="CommandTimeout" dataType="System.Int32" state="default" isArray="false" description="The number of seconds before a command times out. A value of 0 indicates an infinite time-out." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">0</property>
<property id="140" name="OpenRowset" dataType="System.String" state="default" isArray="false" description="Specifies the name of the database object used to open a rowset." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">"ORASCHEMA"."DIMTABLE"</property>
<!-- More Properies -->
</component>

Ideally, I'd like configuration time control over the name attribute of the component element (highlighted) so that I can set the value of the property element with the OpenRowset attribute type (also highlighted). This way, presumambly as long as datatypes were generic enough, the mapping would just work.

But, in walking through the dtsConfig tree, I don't see these elements or attributes exposed.

I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Rick

Trouble With: Linked Server To Oracle Using OraOLEDB.ORacle Provider

Jan 11, 2007

Hi--

I am running SQL Server 2005 on Win2k3:

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.2047.00
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 2005.090.2047.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.086.1830.00 (srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447)
Microsoft MSXML      2.6 3.0 4.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer      6.0.3790.1830
Microsoft .NET Framework      2.0.50727.42
Operating System      5.2.3790

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.

I am having problems querying from linked oracle server. When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password. So it at least knows that. when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:

(i replaced the real server name with "someServer".)

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer".

This is how I set up my Linked server:

Provider: "Oracle Provider for OLE DB"

Product Name: SomeServer

Data Source: SomeServer

Provider String:  "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=SomeServer;User Id=MyLogin;Password=MyPassword"

The query I run is:

Select * from [Someserver].[schema or database]..[tbl_name]

Any help??? What am i missing?

Oracle && SSIS On 64 Bit...

Nov 9, 2007

Hi All,
We have 64 bit win 2003 & sql2005 EE sp2.. I managed how to trick VS2005 with Oracle connections and have converted a lot of packages already from sql 2000 to sql 2005(using Oracle connetions as well),
now I stack with one oracle connection manager...
So just to clarify, we have SSIS on same SQL server installed, as well have this one Oracle server set as linked server(using Oracle client isntalled), I'm working with BIDS on this server as well..So,
when I created connection manager and test connection - it succeeded.. Now after creating rest in ssis and trying to debug.. I'm getting :

[Connection manager "PRD02.genericuser"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified".
What could be a reason of this error, if test connection is working fine, as well preview of data....???
Just in case I tried to create connection manager by using Oracle provider for OLE DB as well as Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle..same things, connection is tested fine in both cases, preview is Okay, when start to debugging - problems...

Memory Consuming

Nov 15, 2000

I've just faced quite interesting case.
I have two SQL Servers 7.0 running on two W2K(sp1) Server boxes (Compaq ProLiant 1600 and HP NetServer LC3) both with RAID5. One of the task these servers peform is logging MS Proxy.
For more convenient way I created the procedure that show me proxy users, their IP address and URL head where they hit for the last one minute and half. This one as follow:

-----
REATE proc usp_showusers as
select clientip, clientusername, substring(stuff(uri, 1, 7, ''), 1, patindex('%/%', stuff(uri, 1, 7, ''))) short_uri into #whoweb from msplog where logtime > getdate()-0.001
select clientip, clientusername, short_uri from #whoweb
group by clientip, clientusername, short_uri
-----

So, when I run this proc on HP box it executes well and SQL keeps on consuming the same amount of memory (approximately 60MB)
When I run on Compaq, the proc executes well as well, but promptly gets memory consume up to 150MB (before execution it did ~50(60)MB). In half an hour it pulls down 90MB.
In addition to SQL Server the boxes run Lotus Domino R5 and Active Directory.
The installed software on them is absolutely identical.

Any idea? I'd be really appreciated.
Thanks

Consuming Web Services From The SQL CLR

Jan 11, 2007

Hi there,
I've been following Vineets and David's procedures to consume web
services using SQL CLR to the t. I created my web service in C#.NET
2005, and generated my proxy using this command:

wsdl /par:oldwsdlconfig.xml /o:ExactMobileService.cs /n:Project360.SmsService http://www.exactmobile.co.za/interactive/interactivewebservice.asmx

I added both files to the project, set Generate Serialization Assembly to on and compiled it.I then generated a strong name key for the assembly and signed my assembly with that key.Inside my post-build event I added the following script:

"E:DevelopmentMicrosoft
Visual Studio 8SDKv2.0Binsgen.exe" /force
/compiler:/keyfile:SmsServiceKey.snk /t:StoredProcedures
$(TargetDir)$(TargetName).dll

This compiled into my assembly, the XmlSerializer assembly and then added strong name key to both.

In SQL Server 2005, I enabled CLR, made my DB trustworthy, created my
first assembly with permissions EXTERNAL ACCESS and then the
XmlSerializer assembly with permissions SAFE. I created my stored
procedure and ran it. When I did I got this error which I assumed the
XmlSerializer was supposed to solve for me:

System.InvalidOperationException:
Cannot load dynamically generated serialization assembly. In some
hosting environments assembly load functionality is restricted,
consider using pre-generated serializer. Please see inner exception for
more information. ---> System.IO.FileLoadException: LoadFrom(),
LoadFile(), Load(byte[]) and LoadModule() have been disabled by the
host.

I have seen alot of posts about this error, but none of them has been able to solve my problem.

Please can you help me?

The component reported the following errors

Cannot retrieve column code page

Has anyone got any ideas how I fix this?

It just doesn't add up. I get this exception with the 64 bit client installed. Anyone with ideas, I am getting near to the point of migrating backwards to 32 bit SQL on this server to be rid of this problem.

Connecting To Oracle RDB From SSIS

Oct 24, 2006

Hi Gurus,

I am trying to build a Data Warehouse using SSIS in SQL Server 2005. My source data is in Oracle RDB. Now when I am trying to connect to oracle RDB using the OLE DB Source component, I am getting the following error.

Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking componenets were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or late client software installtion.

Provider is unable to funtion until these components are installed.

I did install the Oracle RDB client software .Apparently it looks like Microsoft OLE DB for Oracle supports Oracle 7.3.3 and above. At the same time I tried to use ODBC for Oracle RDB driver from ODBC data sources. But the OLE DB Source Component in SSIS can't recognize ODBC. So now I am stuck on how to load the data from Oracle RDB to SQL Server 2005 staging area.

Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated. Ideally we are looking to port the data directly from Oracle RDB to SQL Server without any intermediate flat files (flat files etc)

Thanks,
SK

Using Oracle Procedures In SSIS

Apr 25, 2007

Hi Everyone

Please pardon my inexperience, I am new to SSIS. I am having some difficulty with using Oracle

procedures in SSIS. I have installed and configured the Oracle Client Software for 10g. I have managed to

create a connection to the Oracle database that I will be using. I am currently using the Oracle Provider For

OLE DB. I want to add an OLE DB Source component to the Data Flow which I then want to configure to

use an Oracle procedure to bring back the data that I need.

When I want to execute the Oracle Proc in the same way that I would normally execute a SQL Proc it returns

an error saying:

TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------

Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4A.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80040E4A Description: "Command was not prepared.".

Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Unable to retrieve column information from the data source. Make sure your target table in the database is available.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Exception from HRESULT: 0xC020204A (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)

I have tried using a ADO.NET connection and then using a Data Reader Source component but I get an

error with my SQL Statement saying "Invalid SQL Command"

Could anyone please provide me with some information on what I am doing wrong? Or possibly point me to

information that will help me? I have been searching the net non-stop without success.
