Oracle From Inside A SQL Server Proc

Feb 10, 2000

I'm having a problem getting one of my procs (on SQL Server) to talk to an Oracle DB. I've used sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin,
but I'm getting an error that indicates that I'm not using the right naming convention.

If the NT server is name NTBOX, and the Oracle instance is YLO, with a valid user ME with password ITS, and the database (in SQL terms) is ABC
and the table is MyTable, I would think that

sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'NTBOX', @srvproduct = 'oracle', @provider = 'MSDAORA', @datasrc = 'YLO'

sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'NTBOX', 'false', NULL, 'host', 'oracle'

select * from NTBOX.YLO..MyTable

would work. I'm getting "OLE/DB provider returned message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name".

How To Call Proc On Linked Oracle Server

Sep 12, 2006

Sorry if this is very stupid question, but i've spent too long searching for the answer:

I have a linked Oracle server set up for RPC in SQL server 9 db. How do I call it? I've tried this, but gives Unspecified error:

"

OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SANSORA1" returned message "Unspecified error".

"

From this:

declare @UserName char(20) -- Current Username

declare @Password varchar(20) -- Current Password

declare @PasswordNew varchar(20) -- New Password

declare @PasswordCfm varchar(20) -- Confirm New Password

set @UserName = '900878'

set @Password = '900878'

set @PasswordNew = '777'

set @PasswordCfm = '777'

declare @return int

exec SANSORA1..PCG.USR_CHANGEPASSWORD @UserName ,@Password ,@PasswordNew ,@PasswordCfm;

--Exec ( 'SANSORA1..PCG.USR_CHANGEPASSWORD (' + @UserName + ' ,' + @Password + ' ,' + @PasswordNew + ' ,' + @PasswordCfm + ')')

How To Convert SQL Server Datetime To Oracle Timestamp (or Other Type With Similar Precision)?

Jul 10, 2007

In SQL Server I've created a linked server to an Oracle database. I am trying to insert (within the context of an sql server table trigger) an SQL Server datetime to an Oracle column with similar precision. Oracle timestamps are not compatible with sql server datetimes and I don't know how to convert the data (or if I should use a different type of column to store the data in Oracle). I have full control over the structure of the Oracle table so I can use a different type if timestamp is not best, but I need the destination column to have at least the same precision as the sql server datetime value. What is the easiest way to do this?

Transact SQL :: Convert Server Date MM/DD/CCYY To Oracle Date Formatted As NUMBER (8,0)

So I have to build dynamic T-SQL because of a date parameter that will be provided. The Date Parameter will be provided in SSRS in normal MM/DD/CCYY format. So how do I then convert that date to my Oracle format

NUMERIC(8,0) CCYYMMDD?

I tried this...

SET@SQLQuery=@SQLQuery+'ANDMEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF<='''''+CAST(@AsOfDateASVARCHAR)+''''''+@NewLineChar;
SET@SQLQuery=@SQLQuery+'ANDMEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF>='''''+CAST(@AsOfDateASVARCHAR)+''''''+@NewLineChar;

but that put it in the format of...

AND
MEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF<=''2015-04-01''
AND
MEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF>=''2015-04-01''

Which is close...I think I just need to lose the "-"

I want to turn this SQL into a stored proc; there are currently about 8 parameters that I want to pass into it. The field value for each will be either NULL or a positive integer, and the paramater will be passed in as an integer.

If the passed parameter value is a positive integer then it should return all records where the corresponding field value matches that integer. If the passed parameter is 0, it should return all rows regardless of whether the field value is an integer or NULL.

And I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Do I need an IF statement in there or something?

:confused:

How To You Convert An Oracle Long Field To Varchar 8000

Jan 17, 2007

I need to handle this conversion in SSIS and not on oracle.

The following expression is executed on a datatype of dt_str with a length of 8000.

SUBSTRING((DT_STR,8000,1252)Column_name,1,8000)

Records longer then 4000 bytes take an error path

The next expression with 4000 bytes works but there is truncation.

SUBSTRING((DT_STR,4000,1252)Column_name,1,4000)

Basically I need to know how to cast a text or ntext into a varchar or nvarchar using ssis but I need to capture the first 8000 byes without truncation.

is this possible?

Using SSIS Reading From oracle I can convert to a text or ntext field but I am having a hard time going directly to a varchar.

Trouble With: Linked Server To Oracle Using OraOLEDB.ORacle Provider

Jan 11, 2007

Hi--

I am running SQL Server 2005 on Win2k3:

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      9.00.2047.00
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools      2005.090.2047.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)      2000.086.1830.00 (srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447)

Microsoft Internet Explorer      6.0.3790.1830
Microsoft .NET Framework      2.0.50727.42
Operating System      5.2.3790

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.

I am having problems querying from linked oracle server.  When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password.   So it at least knows that.  when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:

(i replaced the real server name with "someServer".)

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer".

This is how I set up my Linked server:

Provider: "Oracle Provider for OLE DB"

Product Name: SomeServer

Data Source: SomeServer

Provider String:  "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=SomeServer;User Id=MyLogin;Password=MyPassword"

The query I run is:

Select * from [Someserver].[schema or database]..[tbl_name]

Any help???  What am i missing?

An example of what I'm try to do is have one proc for getting vehicles by make, model, and years
example of what I'd like to accomplish:veh_list_vehicleInfo_byDetails
@TypeID int,
@MakeID int,
@ModelID int,
@begYear int,
@endYear int
AS
BEGIN

declare @SQL as nvarchar(500)
set @SQL = 'SELECT a.ID, b.Model, c.Make, d.Name, a.Year, a.Mileage, a.Price, a.Sale, a.Certified_Pre_Owned FROM veh_vehicles a INNER JOIN veh_model b ON a.ModelID = b.ID INNER JOIN veh_make c ON a.MakeID = c.ID INNER JOIN veh_location d ON a.LocationID = d.ID'

decalre @ATTRIBUTES as nvarchar(500)
if @TypeID is not null AND @TypeID > 0
begin
set @ATTRIBUTES = @ATTRIBUTES + ' a.TypeID = ' + @TypeID
end
if @MakeID is not null AND @MakeID > 0
begin
set @ATTRIBUTES = @ATTRIBUTES + ' a.MakeID = ' + @MakeID
end

....etc etc.......

if Len(@ATTRIBUTES) > 0
begin
EXEC(@SQL + ' WHERE ' + @ATTRIBUTES)
End
Else
BEGIN
EXEC(@SQL)
END

END
 But I keep getting some errors regarding converting 'a.TypeID = ' to int
?????  Please help!!
 I figured this would be easier than writing stored procs for EACH situation

FoxPro Triggers Call FoxPro Stored Proc Calls SQL Server Stored Procedure

Mar 10, 2005

I didn't want to maintain similar/identical tables in a legacy FoxPro system and another system with SQL Server back end. Both systems are active, but some tables are shared.

Initially I was going to use a Linked Server to the FoxPro to pull the FP data when needed. This works. But, I've come up with what I believe is a better solution. Keep in mind that these tables are largely static - occassional changes, edits.

I will do a 1 time DTS from FP into SQL Server tables.

I then create INSERT and UPDATE triggers within FoxPro.

These triggers fire a stored procedure in FoxPro that establishes a connection to the SQL Server and fire the appropriate stored procedure on SQL Server to CREATE and/or UPDATE the corresponding table there.

In the end - the tables are local to both apps.

If the UPDATES or TRIGGERS fail I write to an error log - and in that rare case - I can manually fix. I could set it up to email me from within FoxPro as well if needed.

Here's the FoxPro and SQL Server code for reference for the Record Insert:

FOXPRO employee.dbf InsertTrigger:
employee_insert_trigger(VAL(Employee.ep_pk),Employ ee.fname,Employee.lname,Employee.email,Employee.us er_login,Employee.phone)

FOXPRO corresponding Stored Procedure:
FUNCTION EMPLOYEE_INSERT_TRIGGER
PARAMETERS wepk,wefname,welname,weemail,WEUSERID,WEPHONE

nhandle=SQLCONNECT('SS_PDITHP3','userid','password ')

IF nhandle<0
m.errclose=.f.
IF !USED("errorlog")
USE tisdata!errorlog IN SELECT(1)
m.errclose=.t.
ENDIF

SELECT errorlog
INSERT INTO errorlog (date, time, program,source,user) ;
values (DATE(), TIME(), 'EMPLOYEE_INSERT_TRIGGER','nhandle<0 PARAMS: '+STR(wepk)+wefname+welname+weemail+WEUSERID+WEPHO NE,GETENV("username"))

IF m.errclose
USE IN errorlog
ENDIF
RETURN

ENDIF
nquery="exec ewo_sp_insertNewEmployee @WEPK ="+STR(wepk)+",@WEFNAME ='"+wefname+"',@WELNAME ='"+welname+"',@WEEMAIL ='"+weemail+"',@WEUSERID ='"+weuserid+"',@WEPHONE='"+wephone+"',@RETCODE =0"
nsucc=SQLEXEC(nhandle,nquery)

SQLDISCONNECT(nhandle)

IF nSucc<0
m.errclose=.f.
IF !USED("errorlog")
USE tisdata!errorlog IN SELECT(1)
m.errclose=.t.
ENDIF

SELECT errorlog
INSERT INTO errorlog (date, time, program,source,user) ;
values (DATE(), TIME(), 'EMPLOYEE_INSERT_TRIGGER','nSucc<0 PARAMS: '+STR(wepk)+wefname+welname+weemail+WEUSERID+WEPHO NE,GETENV("username"))

IF m.errclose
USE IN errorlog
ENDIF
ENDIF

RETURN

SQL SERVER Stored Procedure called from FOXPRO Stored Procedure
CREATE procedure ewo_sp_insertNewEmployee (
