So my data is delivered as numeric(9,2)...like 100.00. I have to extract that data and store it as a varchar 0 filled without the decimal place...like 0000010000///I tried the following and it did not work...
RIGHT('000000000'+CONVERT(VARCHAR,[EODPosting].[Amount]),10),
Hello Guys,Have been getting this error(

Thank you.
I've got a field I'm trying to convert into a date format as it currently sits as a text field. The date setup is of the format DD/MM/YYYY. Some of the fields are NULL, however for the sake of filling in gaps I've just set the nulls to '01-01-1905'.
I've tried to use CAST to change the data into a readable format for SQL Server however I tend to get one of two messages:
Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.

I am using T-SQL I have a column (ColA)that has datetime format and I simply want to pull the next day but date only into ColB

3/19/2014 12:00AM
ColB
3/13/2014
3/20/2014
I have been trying the command below but keep getting the error "Conversion failed when convertint the varchar value '03-03-2014' to data type int."
Convert (varchar(10), "StartDate", 110)+1 as Next Day
hi all , does SQL server able to input the date that is originally from 2/6/2004 11:07:46 AM to DD-MM-YY 06-02-04 and store in the DB. For example , this is the SQL insert query
INSERT INTO ADMIN ( ID , NAME , DATE ) VALUES ( 'A001' , 'karen' ,'2/6/2004 11:07:46 AM')
the date will automatically converted to 06-02-04 and store in DB .
Does it need to use SQL Rule or user-defined data type.
E.g, i have a store procedure. The start date is long date (4/15/2007 3:00pm). i want to select the start date with a particular date (short date format 4/15/2006). Thanks in advance.

Using DTS package in 2000 version, I am dumping TXT file contents into SQL Table,
I have one column having date in format YYYYMMDD(20070929) and corresponding column in SQL is datetime, but it fails on data type mismatch.
I have no choice of making date column in SQL to string or Varchar etc,
is there any way to make that date column in SQL to convert the value upon transformation from format (YYYYMMDD) to M/DD/YYYY (9/29/2007).
many many thanks,
I have a datetime column and I would like to update another column in the same table with the varchar value of date. e.g. date column has 06-08-2008 as a value. I would like to have the same value in the varchar field.
wondering which function can I use to accomplish this task?
thanks
Hi
I have a varchar field with values like "Jun 13 1995 12:" I want to change the type of the field to Date and the format of the values to "mm/dd/yyyy".
If I change the type of the field in the design view to Date, SQL gives me an error saying that the type cannot be changed and data would be lost.
So I think changing the dates to the mm/dd/yyyy format first and then changing the field type from varchar to date would work.
Can someone please help me as how to do this.
Thanks

I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE" .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.
Having an issue getting this done. The datatype in the table is varchar(50). The values in the table are
11122015
11122015
11122015
Nothing has worked so far.

Hi,
I Have this simple convertion in a Script component
Dts.Variables("dateOfProcess").Value = CDate(lineMCF.Substring(30, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(28, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(24, 4))
this works fin in my development environment which has a spanish version of SQL Server and uses "DD/MM/YYYY" as date format.
but the production environment has an english version of SQL Server and "MM/DD/YYYY" date format, so the package crashes in this server.
How do I convert the string to date not depending on the SQL server language.
thanks.
Hi all
With this query
select convert(varchar(16), getdate(), 101)+' '+LEFT(convert(varchar, getdate(), 108),5)
I get
mmddyyyy hh:mm
How can I change my query to get
mmddyyyy hh:mm but no 0 when month from 1 to 9
example can not be: 02/12/2007 03:34
but should be: 2/12/2007 03:34
Don't know why excel not accept month with 0 from 1 to 9

My current Query takes the DATE value stored in P.CreatedDate and makes it VARCHAR, then stores it in the table. I need to format this to return YYYYMMDD. How would I go about this?
Current Code:
Code:
CAST(P.CreatedDate AS VARCHAR) AS DateEntered,
I have a column (varchar (50)), It has values from 1-12.
I want to cast them to their appropriate months.
Example: 1 = January
2 = Febuary
3 = March
etc.
In my table I am using varchar to save a date like this 2-dec-2011. Now I have a requirement where i need to select employee who where present in a month so for that I need a query so that i can pull out all the employees who are present in dec like :
Code:
select * from emp_attendence where date = 'dec-2011'
But this returns nothing ...
I have this stored procedure, and im trying to figured out how i can convert the date field into something i can actually sort in the right order in reporting services. Such as mm-dd-yy , whats the SQL code for doing that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedLet me start by saying that I'm brand new to SQL Server 2005 and SSIS. I'm using the import wizard in SQL2005 to import from a flat file into a table and everything works fine except for dates. A typical date in my flat file is 01-JAN-06. 01 represents the day of the week, JAN represents the month and 06 represents the year. The flat file also contains date values of 00-XXX-00 which represent no date. For example a column containing last purchase date data would look like this:"DateOfLastOrder"
"01-JAN-06"
"02-JAN-06"
"00-XXX-00"
"03-DEC-05"The value of 00-XXX-00 means that there is no purchase date.I want to bring these columns into my table and replace the 00-XXX-00 values with a NULL.
The table Data Type is datetime.
If I use the import wizard using the example above I get this error message:

If I remove the 00-XXX-00 values and import something like this:
"DateOfLastOrder"
"01-JAN-06"
"02-JAN-06"
"03-DEC-05"
The import is successfull and the dates look correct in a querry.

Thank you,

How can I format a date in the format 14AUG2007 ?
The data is comming in from a CSV as a string. I am happy to get the day and year, its just converting the month (eg "AUG") into I a valid number.
I was thinking Lookup, but that only seems to work against a datasource. I can create a lookup table for it to work against but that seemed a bit clunky.
Any other ideas gratefully received.
Thanks
Jon
I have a field that is currently stored as the data type nvarchar(10), and all of the data in this field is in the format mm/dd/yyyy or NULL. I want to convert this field to the smalldatetime data type. Is this possible?
I've tried to use cast in the following way, (rsbirthday is the field name, panelists is the table), but to no avail.
SELECT rsbirthday CAST(rsbirthday AS smalldatetime)
FROM panelists
the error returned is "incorrect syntax near 'rsbirthday'.
I'm rather new to all things SQL, so I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm actually doing.
Thanks for the help!
