All, I have to automatically grap a dbf or ascii file from my hard drive and then insert that into an already existing database table. Does anyone know how to do this? The only thing I can find is to do it manually from enterprise manager, but I need to automate this. Thanks in advance!
Is there a redgate tool or any third party tool that would convert a .bak file to its appropriate .mdf and .ldf file? or create an .mdf and .ldf file from the .bak file?
The data file contains the answers given to questions asked during the course of an interview. This file contains data only for completed interviews. The file is ASCII based, and contains data in a card column format. This means that each record is spread over several rows in the file €“ called cards. Currently 39 cards make up one completed record, although this may change over time. There are 80 columns per row.
We want to migrate a mySQL database to sql server 2000 or sql Server 2005. I have been given a DDL file to perform the conversion, but I don't know what to do with the file? Can anyone help me out? From what I can conclude, the DDL files is a script. So how do I run this script? Where do I place the file, before I run it? Please help !

Hello There, I would really appreciate if you can help me with this problem. I am currently using SQL Server 2005 Express for one of my web application. I have a .bak file (backup file) provided by my client which I want to use for testing purpose. Now I just want to know how can I use that backup file without installing SQL SERVER 2005 as one way to do this I know is to restore the database in SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Manager but I can't install SQL Server 2005. To my knowledge, SQL Server Express uses .mdf file for database but what I have is .BAK file.. I would be really glad to see your quick answers. Thank you for reading this far. Sincerely, Zulfiqar
We have files from an event log in a DEC Alpha server and we would like to create a database program to import these files and then be able to read and query the info in them.
These files contain information such as error codes about the machine that the Alpha controls. They also contain time stamps. I am told that these files are hexidecimal.
Someone mentioned in passing that if we use MSaccess as the database, we would first have to write a program to convert these files to a format that Access can understand. But, we were told that SQL7 has Add-ins that comes on the CD that can convert these files to a format that SQL7 can then understand.
Does anyone know if this is true..and how difficult is file conversion to accomplish?
If anyone thinks that they might be able to help us, I can sent them a small sample of the hex files Thank you in advance
I have a table in a flat file that I need to convert to SQL Server 2000. Within this file are 4 different record definitions (all are similar but with different lengths).
I have experience converting files that are of 2 different record definitions, but never with this many. What kind of data migration techniques are available for such a process? I need to be able to get these 4 different definitions into 4 different tables.
Hello, not sure if this is in the right forum or not...
I have a .DTA file from Sage which is a Database file, im assuming anyway, how can i convert it into a format where i can view it in say access or excel, something like that, or anything really just so i can read it all properly... i can read it in word - buts of it but its all mangled and awful...
I have a flat file that has data stored as Yes / No I need to convert it to True / False for my bit data type on my sql table. When I do the data conversion it fails. When I set it to ignore all the values are null. This is a nightly import into SQL is there an inline method to do all the conversions within SSIS?
i have 12 different sql server tables. all are binded to one gridview. i have kept one admin user to view the details of the 12 tables in a gridview (pagesize=5). now the admin wants to generate 12 CSV files from the 12 tables (that is, he has to choose the table name from a dropdown and then has to click "Generate" button. CSV file name should be like this "<table_name>_<date>" ). also want to put links(dynamically [after generation of those csv files]) in a separate page to download those csv files. how to do this in asp.net (C#)? its urgent.
what's the easiest way to do this. i have 5 tables within the mdb filei tried the "easiest way" shown in a website but it does not work.the way i did it was on access(2007) > database tools tab > sql server buttonit gave me an error when it ask for an login IDi do not have any password/id..please helpthanks
Hi, I have a script written in ASP to load data file (.csv) to ms sql. In the script, I have a portion of script looks like taht : ..... Do While NOT oInFile.AtEndOfStream oOutFile.WriteLine Replace(oInFile.Readline, chr(13), vbcrlf)Loop ..... After that, I will use a BULK INSERT to input data to ms sql. I am wondering how do I convert each row (data) to vbcrlf in Stored Procedure? Coz' I did not compose the convertion part, and I got no error when running BULK INSERT, but no rows are inserted :( HELP!!!! I guess it's because the file is not being converted into a correct format??
Here's a problem description I read on another post but I have the same issue:
I am trying to Import Data from a csv file into a SQL Sever table. The Data being imported has a Unique Identifier in it but it is being considered as DT_WSTR datatype in SSIS
When i directly try to import, it gives an error:
The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
I Tried to use Data Conversion to convert it to DT_GUID and import into SQL Server table but it again throws the above error. Anyone has a clue?
Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. Â My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.Â
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.
I have a customer they are running raid 5 on a windows 2000 server one of the drives went bad. The customer replaced the drive and raid rebuilt the drive, every thing seamed to be fine but there is one database file that cannot be attached to SQL. The file is 15G so I know there is information the error states that the file is not a Primary file. Any clue on how to fix this?
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
I have been strunggling to find solution to convert XLSX files with multiple sheets to csv file.
Requirements >>Â Convert XLSX file with multiple sheets to CSV file >>Â CSV file names : XLSX filename + '_' + sheet name >>Â scirpt has to be in VB as i am using ssis 2005 >> I started develping scirpt using Micorosoft.office.interop.Excel.dll . this dll is referenced to script task. >> found web link as useful.. I am testing some maintenance tasks sql commands such as index rebuild, index reorg, update statistics and db integrity check on a SQL Server 2014 Database. This is a new non-production vendor database (DB Size 500 GBs, Log Size 25 GBs) which eventually will be created in production. Currently, it is in full recovery model and without log backups. The database has a whole lot of indexes. I am just trying to rebuild and reorganize all the indexes (that need it), in addition to trying to get an idea of how long these maintenance task will take and the space needed in the log file to complete these tasks/commands. I would like to execute these tasks manually (the first time) to gather the duration and space required information. Eventually, I would probably schedule a weekly job to perform this maintenance.
I ran the index rebuild task on the database and noticed that the log file grew by over 50 GBs. I killed the process and truncated and shrunk the log file back down.
1. Does the index rebuild, index reorg, update statistics and db integrity check commands all use the log file?
2. Does Indexs Reorg have less impact on log file then Index Rebuild?
3. Should a truncate log and shrink log file be performed after these maintenance commands?
4. Should a full database backup be performed after these maintenance commands? Or before the maintenance commands?
I have read and understand that shrinking is not good for the database (could lead to more fragmentation and more data file growth when data is added) and I know about rebuilding indexes when fragmentation is GT 30% and reorganizing indexes when fragmentation is GT 5% and LE 30%.
Since this is a non-production database maybe I should set the recovery model to simple, run the maintenance commands and leave the database in simple recovery model unless the vendor needs it in full recovery model for some unknown reason.
5. With the simple recovery model the log file should be reused in a circular manner and not grow during these maintenance tasks. Is this correct?
I want to convert .rdl to .rdc need full steps.Actually i created .rdl report using sp sucessfully. Now i want to convert it to rdlc while doing it iam getting some authentication error and some thing else.I created rdl in 2008 and i want to change it to rdlc 2010.
I am stuck at one place, where I have to convert CSV format file data into SAP IDOC format file. In SSIS we don't have any such SAP adapter (though we have .NET Data Provider for mySAP suite [SSIS SAP Adapter] but this is still not fully supported by Microsoft, plus it doesn't have feature to convert data into IDOC format) that can do this. Can someone here please provide me some pointers on any third party adapters available in market to do this job or if anyone has already developed some custom approach to achieve this task?
Your quick response on this is highly appreciated.
I need to write a process to get file size in kb and record count in a file. I was planning on writing a c# console app that takes the file path and name as a param however should i use a CLR?
I cant put a script in the ssis when it's bringing the file down because it has been deemed that we only use ssis for file consumption.
For a database, we have 4 data files in a particular file group and the file sizes are almost 70 GB each.
Do I come across any performance issues if I create/pre-allocate an additional data file in the same file group so that the existing files don't grow too much?
I have a package in which there are only one Data flow Task and it has only three components. 1) Source , which is a SQL db 2) destination and 3) OLE DB Destination flat file Error output file.  I want the error file to be created ONLY if there is any error while dumping the data into destination DB. But , the issue is, the error flat file is being created inspite of No error while dumping the  data from Source to Destination.
