How To Convert Hexadecimal File Formats?

May 19, 2000

Dear SQL folks,

We have files from an event log in a DEC Alpha server and we would like to create a database program to import these files and then be able to read and query the info in them.

These files contain information such as error codes about the machine that the Alpha controls. They also contain time stamps. I am told that these files are hexidecimal.

Someone mentioned in passing that if we use MSaccess as the database, we would first have to write a program to convert these files to a format that Access can understand.
But, we were told that SQL7 has Add-ins that comes on the CD that can convert these files to a format that SQL7 can then understand.

Does anyone know if this is true..and how difficult is file conversion to accomplish?

If anyone thinks that they might be able to help us, I can sent them a small sample of the hex files
Thank you in advance

Scale Greater Than Precision - Not A Valid Instance Of Data Type Real

Feb 14, 2006

Our shop recently upgraded to MS SQL 2005 server from the prior SQL 2000 product.

I receive and error during processing related to inserting a value into a field of datatype real. This worked for years under MS SQL 2000 and now this code throws an exception.

The exception states:

The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 15 ("@TEST"): The supplied value is not a valid instance of data type real. Check the source data for invalid values. An example of an invalid value is data of numeric type with scale greater than precision.

This error is caused by inserting several values that fall outside of a range that MS SQL 2005 documentation specifies.

The first value that fails is 6.61242e-039. SQL Server 2005 documentation seems to indicate that values for the datatype real must be - 3.40E + 38 to -1.18E - 38, 0 and 1.18E - 38 to 3.40E + 38.

Why doesn't 6.61242e-039 just default to 0 like it used to?

I saw an article that might apply, even though I just use a C++ float type and use some ATL templates.

Is my question related to this post?http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=201636&SiteID=1

Convert Text Data Type To Smalldatetime Data Type

Oct 9, 2007

I have a field that is currently stored as the data type nvarchar(10), and all of the data in this field is in the format mm/dd/yyyy or NULL. I want to convert this field to the smalldatetime data type. Is this possible?
I've tried to use cast in the following way, (rsbirthday is the field name, panelists is the table), but to no avail.

SELECT rsbirthday CAST(rsbirthday AS smalldatetime)

FROM panelists

the error returned is "incorrect syntax near 'rsbirthday'.

I'm rather new to all things SQL, so I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm actually doing.

Thanks for the help!

SQL Server 2014 :: SSAS Stored Procs (CLR) - Identify Real Data Type Of MDX Value Returned From Expression

Feb 13, 2015

I have a SSAS stored procedure with a signature:

public Set DoSomthing(Set toBeProcessed, Set measuresToWorkWith)The set measurseToWorkWith is passed as {[Measures].[Measure1], [Measures].[Measure2] ...}

with the measures being real or query-scoped calculated members.

To get the value of the measure for each tuple in the set toBeProcessed, I create an Expression for each tuple (measure) in the set measuresToWorkWith then for each tuple in toBeProcessed call expression.Calculate(tuple) which returns a MDXValue.

My problem is that in order to make the code generic I need to get the real (.NET) data type of the MDXValue. The class only has explicit conversion methods ToInt16() etc which implies that the data type is known at design time.

However, if one of the measures is a query-scoped calculation then it could return a .NET double, int, bool or string.

If the measure is real then I can look up its metadata. However, it appears that if it is a formula (scoped member) then are all bets are off?

Convert Data Type In SSIS

Hi, all my friends,

This is another rookie one.

Is there a way in SSIS dev environment that will let you convert/cast data type at desing time?

Under data flow mappings, there are so many things you can do, but why I did not find any easy way to convert?

I got this validation warning about not supportng converting type DT_STR to DT_I4, or something related.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

Converting A Data Type Double To A Type Float Using A Data Adapter && SSCE 3.5

Feb 13, 2008

Hi,

I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:

this.court0TableAdapter1.Update(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

this.mycourtsDataSet1.AcceptChanges();

this.court0TableAdapter1.Fill(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.

I have tried changing all references to decimal (or money in CE3.5) without luck.

I'm beginning to think that string may be the way to go!!!!!!!

Can someone shed some light on my problem.

Thanks,

Later:

It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.
