Hi All,
How can I add the date/time stamp to the end of the text file? This file is being created as a result of query output of the bcp command:
'bcp "Select * from ##Test" queryout C:TestJobForDB.txt -S servername -U user -P password -c'
I need to add date/time stamp to the JobForDB.txt file before the period.
Thanks

I create back end table on SQL Server and front end in Access. On my sql table I select the datatype as date/time and on the default value on the field I put this one (dateadd(day,datediff(day,0,getdate()),0). When I input the data in to a SQL table and refresh its showing correct as 12/06/2006. But when I checked in access its showing the date data as 2006-12-06 00: but I want to show 12/06/2006. Can you tell what I have to do SQL table default field to come out like 12/06/2006 not 2006-12-06 00:. Thanks and appreciate your comments.

Hi,
I'm pretty new at this, writing SQL and reporting services. I created a report with a date parameter. I need the report to ignore the timestamp. My @Startdate is fine because the timestamps is at 12:00:00AM but my @EndDate also has this timestamp. I need to pull all the data up to the end date the user enters without taking the timestamp into consideration.
If someone can help me out with, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,

Hi,
I would like to know as to how can I put a Current Date & Time stamp on a FILE NAME automatically which is created by a DTS package.
E.g. I create a file named ABC.TXT daily. How do I get this file to have the current Date stamp so that the file name is ABC121201.TXT without any user intervention.
Thanks for the help!

My group is working on a project for school and neither of us have much experience with SQL or ASP. We are pretty much just writing an SQL query to get the data in a certain date range and using ASP to write the tables with the data in it.
Our problem is the SQL database has separate fields for date and time. There is nothing we can do about this because the VB.NET program that populates the tables automatically does this. We can't figure out how to do the BETWEEN statement when they are separate fields. We can do it for a date range and it works fine. An example of what we want to do is show the data from 11:00 am on 04/01/2008 until 4:00pm 04/03/2008.
Does anyone have any idea what we can do? I really want to learn this but it's frustrating because we can't seem to get much help at school.

I would like to export sql server 2005 tables to a text file using SSIS. It is easy to do this as a direct export. However, how could I separate the datetime field into two fields: one for date only and one for time only?

I have 2 tables:
TransactionsImport (which is the destination table)
TransactionsImportDelta
I need to do the following:
Get the records with the latest date and time in the destination table TransactionsImport
Get the records with the latest date and time in the destination table TransactionsImportDelta table
Insert the records from the TransactionsImportDelta table into TransactionsImport that have a greater date & time than the current records in TransactionsImport table.
Problem is date & time are in separate columns:
Table structure:

Good morning.
I am importing an XLS file into one of my tables. The fields are:
Date Id Time IO
12/22/2006
2
12:48:45 PM
9
12/22/2006
16
5:40:55 AM
1
12/22/2006
16
12:03:59 PM
2
When I do the import, I get the following:
Date Id Time IO
12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 2 12/30/1899 12:48:45 PM 2
12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 5:40:55 AM 1
12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 12:03:59 PM 2
Here are my doubts:
1. Is it be better to combine the Date & Time fields into one column? Advantages/Disadvantages?
2. If I don't combine them, should I use varchar or datetime data type?
2. What issues or problems might I have when I program SQL reports, if I leave the fields as they are?
Any comments or suggestions will be very much welcomed.
Cheers mates.

In the previous versions it is "01-Jan-1753"

As a DBA, I am working on a project where an ETL process(SSIS) takes a long time to aggregate and process the raw data.
I figured out few things where the package selects the data from my biggest 200 GB unpartitioned table which has a datekey column but the package converts its each row to an integer value leading to massive scans and high CPU.
Example: the package passed two values 20140714 and 4 which means it wants to grab data from my biggest table which belongs between 20140714 04:00:00 and 20140714 05:00:00.
It leads to massive implicit conversions and I am trying to change this.
To minimize the number of changes, what I am trying to do is to convert 20140714 and 4 to a datetime format variable.
Select Convert(DATETIME, LEFT(20170714, 8)) which gives me a date value but I am stuck at appending time(HH:00:00) to it.

I've imported a CSV file into a table in SQL Server 2012. It's a large file, 140,000+ rows, so I couldn't covert it to Excel first to preserve the date format due to Excel's row limit. In the CSV file, there were 3 column with date data in "31-Aug-09" format, and the import automatically transformed these in "31AUG09" format (varchar(50)) in SQL Server. Now I need to convert these 3 columns from varchar to datetime so I could work with them in date format.
I've tried several things,e.g,
select
convert(datetime,
right(admdate,4)+left(admdate,2)+substring(admdate,3,3))
or
select
convert(datetime,
substring(admdate,6,4)+substring(admdate,1,2)+substring(admdate,3,3))
but keep getting the same error message (Msg 241) "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string".

Hello, first post here.
I am re-writing a web based application and trying to make improvements this go round.
Problem Statement:
I have two tables that need to work independently, but may be related at any given time.
tblAccount
accountID
accountName
accountNumber
lastUpdate
lastEng
etc...
tblEscalation
escID
fk_accountID
escNumber
escCustomer
description
notes
lastUpdate
lastEng
etc...
Escalations come in at any time and need to be tracked. If the escalation gets hot enough there is a need to track this as a "Hot Site" by the account name. Once tracked under the account name, the account may have numerous escalations. Additionally, it is possible to open an account and not yet have any escalations.
My problem is that I need to track on the account level when the last change was made, so I would need to find the MAX date of either the tblAccount.lastUpdate or any of the related tblEscalation.lastUpdate fields. Is there a preferred way to do this?
In the last iteration I just performed a getdate() on either set of records and have a grotesque query that pulls the max date, but it only works if both tables have related data. Maybe just my query is bad, but seems like I'm missing something obvious here.
I also need to track the engineer who made the last change.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
