I haven't had any luck using the Transfer SQL Server Objects task and from what I have found in researching the issues I ran into, no else has. I have found the Roll Your Own article but being non-educated in SMO and VB.Net (I know some VB but nothing about C#), I really need an example of a server to server copy/transfer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new in SSIS I'm trying to create SSIS that can copy tables,permission,index,constrant... to a sqlserver2000 from sqlserver2005. Can any one help stepbystep.
I am racking my brain on this one. I am migrating Oracle data to SQL Server and would like an SSIS package that will copy the oracle data from every table to SQL server. I already have the schema set up in SQL and a straight copy of a specified table works fine between the OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However, when I set up a loop which sets a global variable for the table names, which are identical on both dbs, and try to set the OLEDB Source and Destination OpenRowsetVariable to the global variable, the process fails with these errors with all validation turned off:
[OLE DB Source [18]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
[OLE DB Source [18]] Error: Column "ID" cannot be found at the datasource.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (18) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202005.
To sum up, I want to set the tables dynamically and have them infer the mappings. The names of the columns are already the exact same on each schema, and the data types are mapped accordingly. I have already verified that the names of the tables have been formatted correctly for each database. If I can't do it this way then how?
We currently have a PPTP connection set up for our developers toaccess our development SQL server through a VPN tunnel. When theyneed to copy tables up to the dev SQL from their local machine theysimply do a DTS copy.However, we are now moving to a thin client solution where they willbe working on a terminal server. They will have access to thedevelopment SQL servers and SQL tools such as EM and QA. However,they will not have access to their local SQL server and, therefore,will not be able to directly perform DTS copies. We have exploredseveral possibilities such as exporting tables to a .csv or .mdb fileand then importing them on the development SQL server but this is notideal because things are lost in that process (e.g. primary keys,field names, data types, etc.)My question is this: Is there a way to export and then import SQLtables without losing dependent objects such as primary keys and datatypes in the process? If any of you are working with a similarsituation I would really like to hear how your remote users copyobjects from their remote location to your SQL servers. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project?

I have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables.
How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.
I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to schedule a job which pulls files from a non SQL server (Sybase) which later needs to have a step 2 kicking the ssis package. Problem is that, on the source a batch file will run every 4 hours and outputs total of 10 text files. (takes 5 minutes complete). Now, on destination i want to pull these files via SQL job but while scheduling;
1. I don't see any option saying like 4 hours 10 minutes or so
2. If its out there, then i believe this might be a problem as this time would be an increment one e.g next run would be 4 hours 20 minutes in that case.
How should i achieve pulling these files up because we have an SSIS package on destination that needs those text files to be used as soon as they arrive on SQL server(destination)

I have two SQL Server tables on the same server and in the same database. I'll call them table A and table B. They have identical schemas. I need to insert all rows in table A into table B. (Don't laugh - this is just for testing and long run the tables will reside on different servers.)

Plan to make a full backup of another sql server database to another server. I've read about detach and attach
and copying the datafiles and log files but some say it is prone to data loss? Is this true?
And another thing, what if the existing sql server can't affor downtime for me to copy db files etc.?

I try to copy database from remote SQL Server(6.5) to our local
SQL Server(7.0). I try this way: First, in Enterprice Manager,
I try "NEW SQL SERVER REGISTRATION" using "Register SQL
Server wizard". The remote server give me the IP, login name
and password. then, I try connect option by "login using
SQL Server". But I got message say:"specialted server not found,
Connection open,create file". some times say:"client server access
denied..." some times say:"timeout". What's going on here?
So, I can not get going on with "Import data wizard".
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Any answer would be of great assistance!

Ok, here is my dilemma
I have an application that has many sites. Each site has it's own database. The databases have common tables (ie the name and fields are the same) What I want to be able to do is when creating a new database, I want to be able to copy certain common table data from one database to another. I have run into an error because the table have an IDENTITY so this is not working

I got an error saying that I need to have a column list. I am trying to use this for any tables, so my question is this..
Is there any way to get around using a column list or is there a way to dynamically create the column list?

I have a database that has only been used on a mobile device, but now I want to use it among several devices, so I want to copy the structure and data to a SQL Server 2005 database and expand it's scope.
I am trying to copy/update a table which is in server2 based on a similar table which is in server 1. I can't use replication,
so I am thinking which are the best ways to do without affecting the performance as the source table is busy with inserts or updates. I am thinking of following options:
1. SQL server 2000 DTS packages: As I am trying to copy the data from the source table(server1) into a destination table which is a similar table in server2, if I use dts first I want to take the complete snapshot and then on I only want to copy the new transactions or updated transactions, please let me know how I can do this.
2. Does trigger affect the performance as the server1(source table) is a busy server.

I can not use attach or restore database method because of permission problem. However, I can use Linked server. How can I use Linked server to do that? Any other clues?

I'm breaking into SQL 2000, and have completed a DTS package that imports and massages a file and creates a table with about 200M records.
Now I want to add a process that will export the table to a directory on a Windows 2000 server, in a format such as Access, dBase, or someting else, to make the table available for users who do not have assces to SQL 2000.
I'm having a problem deciding which DTS 'Task' should be used. I've tried several, but haven't stumbled on the correct one, or if I have, haven't realized it because of error messages.
Any tips to get me started will be appreciated.

I have two servers on different machines:
Production & Testing
I have a database called MyData on Production.
I can link the servers using sp_AddLinkedServer.
I want to make a copy of MyData from Production to Testing and rename it from MyData to MyData_Testing.
Currently, I figure I will have to make a backup - copy it from Production to Testing - restore it. Since I can link the servers, I can initiate the backup from Testing - copy - and restore from a script on Testing. The only part I am not sure of is how to copy the file via the script.

I've got to copy several records (almost a 100) in a table from one instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, to another instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, but on a different server. The table structure is identical. I've searched online and found examples of doing a bulk insert into a table from a .CSV file. However I don't know of a way of exporting records to a .CSV file using a SELECT statement.
I've heard of linked servers, but at least as far as I know linking the server would require administrative privileges that I don't have on either machine.

built and populated a database using SQL Server 2005... and then
realised where I really need it is on the PDA! Without going through
all the pain of setting up SQL replication or writing all the code is there a way to export a
2005 database to SQL Server Mobile so it results in an .SDF file?
I know I can script each table out and run it via the SS2005 management studio when connected to a local .sdf file then copy that to the PDA but the thing is I really want to keep my test data so I don't have to re-enter it again.
TIA for any help... there must be a way to do this but I'm quite new to SQL Server Mobile and 2005.

I have a table that I am basically reduplicating a couple of times for each part of this database that I want to create.Each table basically has the same data: The tables will be called motherTable, fatherTable, sonTable, daughterTable and so on.I am pretty much using the following in each column: UserID, MotherID(or FatherID or SonID, etc., etc. and so on for each unique table), FirstName, LastName, MiddleName, BirthPlace, Photo, Age.I don't see an option to copy a table and just modify the second ID part and rename that table accordingly.How can I make this an easier way of creating these similar tables without retyping all these columns over and over again?Thanks in advance.
