Here's my situation. Every day I will be downloading extracts to a folder. The extracts are named:
20070529.Extract1.csv
20070528.Extract1.csv
20070527.Extract1.csv
20070529.Extract2.csv
20070528.Extract2.csv
20070527.Extract2.csv
So, on any given day, I will want to find the most recent versions of Extract1 and Extract2, for example:
20070529.Extract1.csv & 20070529.Extract2.csv
How would I go about doing this?

We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.
Receive Files From Remote Site Only If File Does Not Exist In Local Directory
Jul 13, 2007I need to only receive files via ftp when the file does not exist on my local machine. FIles are being added to the remote location on a weekly basis and they are being downloaded locally. I do not want to download all the files each time. Instead, just download what was not already downloaded. Is there a way to do this? I want to do this using SSIS / ftp task.

SQL Server(7.0). I try this way: First, in Enterprice Manager,
I try "NEW SQL SERVER REGISTRATION" using "Register SQL
Server wizard". The remote server give me the IP, login name
and password. then, I try connect option by "login using
SQL Server". But I got message say:"specialted server not found,
Connection open,create file". some times say:"client server access
denied..." some times say:"timeout". What's going on here?
So, I can not get going on with "Import data wizard".
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Any answer would be of great assistance!

I have a dilemma and I need some expert help with this. I am trying to make a copy of a remote Database and then replicated the DB and it's contents on my local machine so I can build a test site to run data with. I tried to remot into the server machine but I guess that feature is not allowed by the honest of the remote machine. Since I build on my local machine and would like to be able to test data on my local machine.... I would like to copy the remote DB to my local computer and then I can run my test app on my local server. The version of SQL on the remote machine is SQL Express 2005 and I have SQL 2005 on my machine. Please give me how to accomplish this please.

When theyneed to copy tables up to the dev SQL from their local machine theysimply do a DTS copy.However, we are now moving to a thin client solution where they willbe working on a terminal server. They will have access to thedevelopment SQL servers and SQL tools such as EM and QA. However,they will not have access to their local SQL server and, therefore,will not be able to directly perform DTS copies. We have exploredseveral possibilities such as exporting tables to a .csv or .mdb fileand then importing them on the development SQL server but this is notideal because things are lost in that process (e.g. primary keys,field names, data types, etc.)My question is this: Is there a way to export and then import SQLtables without losing dependent objects such as primary keys and datatypes in the process? I need to have a local copy so that I can develop my site without internet connection. For your information, I used Hostforlife.eu hosting service. I have searched and tried many methods to do it, but no luck yet. For example, I created a backup on Hostforlife.eu and restore backup file on my pc, but nothing happens. Then I created a new database, and re-created its structure same as the one on Hostforlife, then I used the import wizard to import data from them to my pc. Again, nothing happens.

Jun 19, 2015Historically I've always written a VB script to copy a file from a sharepoint library. I don't like this method because I have to input a username & password in the script and maintain a config file.
Yesterday I was playing around with using a file system task. The sharepoint file has a UNC path so why not? I created a simple test package with a single file system task that copies the sharepoint file (addressed via UNC) to another network location. Package runs fine locally.
I try running on our utility server but am getting a "The file name [SHAREPOINT UNC PATH] specified in the connection was not valid" error. Package is running with a proxy on the server and the proxy account has the same permissions to the sharepoint site (so far as I can tell) as me.

Jun 26, 2007I have a an asp.net application running under IIS. this application is using two folders, the virtual directory under C:Inetpubwwwroot and the application phisical folder at C:.
I want to manage this applications .mdf database using microsoft sql server management studio express(iam running sql express with advanced services) which means i have to attach the database to Ms sql server managemet studio express tool.
What i dont know is if i should attach the .mdf file in the physical folder's App_Data folder at C:myapplicationFolderApp_data or the .mdf file in the virtual directory under C:InetpubwwwrootMyapplicationFolderApp_Data
I dont know which of the two i should attach. Where exactly is the running database, the .mdf file in the physical folder or the .mdf file in the virtual directory under wwwroot.

I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)
7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2
:connect SQL2
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';
go
8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1
:connect SQL1
alter database DBmirrorTest

This is where I got the error.

Is it because the database file was sill attached to the local SQL Server express instance? What can I do to bypass this problem? Detach the database file? or dispose the local SQL Server express instance?

Copy Bak, Trn Files To File Server With Robocopy.
Nov 29, 2007I need help with better solution to copy my bak and trn files to a file server. This is the background. I use to dump the backup files directly to the file server; this was not €œbest practices€? according to some books and forums. Back to dump the file first to local disc and after that letting robocopy copy the files to the file server. And I end up with this problem.
This is error from the backup log

Robocopy tries to copy the file before its completely written to disk. I have made a batch file that looks like this
robocopy
"F:ackup" "\sefwg-sqlbackackupACON" *.* /MIR /TBD /MON:1 /MOT:5 /LOG+:"F:ackupackup.log" /NP
Monitor the file folder and copy all files every 5 min, the file is started with scheduled Task.
Have I missed some switch? Can start robocopy from SQL Serer Agent in a xp_cmd_shell?
Ideal Local For Data Directory
May 12, 2008I am currently deploying a desktop application that uses SQL Express as a local data source. I load data from other sources into the local database and then use that data for my application. Currently I'm deploying the MDF file into a Data folder within my application folder. I'm finding that most of the users that will be using this application has only power user rights, not admin rights.
My question is this. Is using a data folder within my application folder the ideal place to store this data or is there other more benefitial places within the users computer that would help reduce rights and permissions issues? When users upgrade to Vista will this cause any problems that another location might help me avoid?
Appreaciate any opinions.

I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.

Sorry my newbie question, but I didn't find how to install my ready asp2.0 application (VS2005) to the target Win2003 server. I use SQL Express 2005 both in my dev machine and the Win2003 server. I simply copied all the .aspx and .mdf file there and I made a virtual directory in the server's IIS. My application works corretly without the database, but when I try to log-in it says: wrong user name or password. With Management Studio Express I made a SELECT to see my built-in users (I added these users in my dev machine before the deploying), and I found them correctly. But when I try to log-in via my application it seems as if it would be empty. Then I made a simply page with createUserWizard to try adding new users in the server but the SQL said: the database is read-only (in the IIS I enabled all rights (eg. read, write, run)).
Is there a special way to deploy my SQL file or the whole application? Sorry, I am not enough familiar with it

We have SAN for our SQL server and all of DB backup copy pointing to one the SAN volume(ex. T). We are moving the bkp copy from this SAN volume into remoteserver for restoring the backup. We are getting a lot of Time out during this time.
Is that copy process affect production time out?.

If you copy a 25Mb filefrom this machine to a W2K server, the file copy takes over 5 minuteson a 100Mpbs switched network.Copying the same file to another NT server takes only seconds, andcopying the same file to the W2K server from the 2nd NT server, (whichis not running SQL) takes only seconds also.Has anyone any ideas as to why file copying between this machine and aW2K one will take so long. It is repliacted on 5 further w2K machines.

Oct 22, 2015I am copying data from database to an excel file through SSIS. database is MS SQL 2005 and BIDS is also 2005.However, the job doing this task fails every time.As per investigation, the result of the query is more than 100,000 rows and we know that excel has a limit of 65000 rows of data.Is there a way of setting the limit up? or something? a better approach maybe so that everything will be copied to the excel file successfully.

Local SQL Server Instances Not Showing Up On Local Servers Tab Of Management Studio Logon Screen
Oct 2, 2007We have a 64-bit VM server running SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server on this particular VM server has 6 local instances installed. On the Management Studio logon screen I can type the full name of the local instance and connect to it, however if I press the drop down in the Server name field, choose Browse and select the Local Servers tab there is nothing listed under Database Engines.
Any idea why the 6 local instances don't show up under Database Engines? This is preventing me from installing a vendor application because their installer looks for local SQL Server instances on this server, but if SQL Server won't even show the local instances then the installer doesn't see them either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Copy Files Into Same Destination Directory

How do I copy files from several subdirectories into the same directory? I have about 80 subdirectories of a parent directory from which I want to copy the files and place the copies into the same, flat destination directory. I tried using the copy file and copy directory file system tasks, but this always seems to recreate the subdirectory structure under the destination directory.
How can I get around this in SSIS?

take files from c:directory1
copy them to cirectory2 with a different name (concatenated date on the end)
delete them from c:directory1
Should I be using the Script Task for this? I am wondering if I should be using the File System Task which copies directories or files, but I don't know if I could rename the files during the copy.
Also, I want the directory names to be in the configuration file. I am not sure how to do this. If I set up a flat file source connection, I need to specify a file name and I just want the directory names. How do I get them in the config file and how to I read them into my script from the config file?

Not Able To Connect To The Local Database With (local) As Server Name
Jun 7, 2006I am facing a problem in connecting to the local database with server name as (local).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my machine. When I try to connect to the SQL server with the server name as SUNILKUMAR I am able to connect but when I try to connect to the same server with the server name as (local) I am not able to connect. SUNILKUMAR is my machine name and SQL server is running locally.
if anyone can help me what is the problem in this case it is highly appriciated.
