Is there a way of copying/moving a record from one table to another identical table on the same database using ADO.NET
I can obviously do it the long way (retrieving a record, then pushing it up using a second SQL command)
I was just wondering if there is a way to do it in one database hit using some kind of cool SQL function.

I want to create a copy of the record where the user="user1" and insert that copy in the same table in a new created record. But I want the new record to have a value of "user2" in the user column instead of "user1" since it's a primary key

I have a client who needs to copy an existing sale. The problem isthe Sale is made up of three tables: Sale, SaleEquipment, SaleParts.Each sale can have multiple pieces of equipment with correspondingparts, or parts without equipment. I have an SQL 2005 Server running with a table called
Active and a linked table called Recall.
In my .net APP I wrote a VB code that will copy an
existing record and create a duplicate with a new PK ID.
Now here is the problem, The copy record works perfect if
I create a new record and then copy that record. I can
press my copy button and it will make as many copies as
I want. When I try to copy a record that is pre-existing
from an import I did about 6 months ago it looks like it
works but the record is never copied.
My question come down to, Is their something within SQL that
would prohibt a record from being copied ?
If the answer is yes, Can anyone advise where to look to
change setting in SQL or what type of correction I should
pursue.
I am new to SQL and coming from a foxpro arena, Which is also
where the imported data came from..
Any advice would be great.

I need help with a simple problem in a Stored Procedure.
I have two tables. One with some records of any sort with an ordinary autoincreased PK. and one table that stores relations between records in the first table - it mainly has two columns (ParentID, ChildID) which both references the PK in the first table. Nothing odd there I think.
These items are revisioned through a third table (thats not important here). I want to create a copy of these records in the same tables for a new revision of an item in this nonimportant table.

After the operation:
Table 1
1 Record 1
2 Record 2
3 Record 3
4 Record 1
5 Record 2
6 Record 3

Of course this is only a simple example - in reality its a bit more complex but this is enough to present my problem.
The only way I can find to solve this is to use a cursor to loop through the records in the first table, insert them into the same table and use @@scope_identity to create a temporary table with the old and the new values stored together and then use this temp table to copy (and translate) the records from Table 2 to create a copy of them. But it will be rather slow I think since there are lots of items in this table.
First I did it by creating a temporary column in Table1 to store the old ID together with the new ID but as it turns out Im not able to solve it this way:
insert into Table1 (
Name,
TmpOldID )
select
Name,
PKID
from Table1
where ...
Please help - there must be a simpler and faster way of doing this.

I have been asked to give the users the ability to copy a set of records within the database. The current setup is
Master Table: JSA1
JSAID: (PK, int, not null)
JOBTITLE(nvarchar(200), null)
PlantNumber(int, not null)
Detail Table: tblSteps
STEPID (PK, int, not null)
JSAID (FK, int, not null)
StepNo (int, null)
BasicSteps (nvarchar(200), null)
DBPhoto(varbinary(max), null)
The plant number field is a location based field that the application uses to filter/select data on for the end users. What they want to be able to do is to select a record, select another location from a dropdown list and then click a button that duplicates the master record and the detail records to the new location.
I am thinking that a stored procedure passing the JSAID and new Location number to do it, I am just not sure how to get the new ID when I go to copy the detail records.
Is that possible to restrict inserting the record if record already exist in the table.
Scenario: query should be
We are inserting a bulk information of data, it should not insert the row if it already exist in the table. excluding that it should insert the other rows.

I would like to link the two tables and receive all records from table2 joined on ID and the record from table1 that has the most recent date.
Example:

The first record in table2 would only link to the first record in table1
The second record in table2 would only link to the third record in table1

I am trying to update a record in a table based off of criteria of another record in the table.
So suppose I have 2 records
ID owner type
1 5678 past due
2 5678 late
So, I want to update the type field to "collections" only if the previous record for the same record is "past due". Any ideas?

But, I have these dbo.Tables in a different Database "xyzDatabase". How can I copy each of these dbo.Tables to the another blank dbo.Table of Northwind Database?

From the above observation,I think it is possible to copy the dbo.Table from the one Database to the Northwind Database that needs to be repaired. Please help and advise me how to do this task or tell me where I can find the Microsoft document that gives the details of this X-copy thing.

I am using VB 2005 Express to create a project to learn "Calling Stored Procedures with ADO.NET" (see Paul Kimmel's article in http://www.developer.com/db/article.php/3438221) that needs the dbo.Tables of Northwind Database and my Northwind Database has been screwed up for quite a while and needs a big repair.
Just wondering if there is an easy transact statement to copy table 1 to table 2, appending the data in table 2.with SQL2000, thanks.

Hi... I was hoping if someone could share me some thoughts with the issue that I am having at the moment.
Problem: When I run the package in my local machine and update local SS DB/table - new records writes OK in the table. BUT when I changed my destination meaning write record into another physical SS DB/table there is no INSERT data occurs. AND SO when I move/copy over that same package into another server (e.g. server that do not write record earlier) and run it locally IT WORKS fine too.
What I am trying to do is very simple - Add new records in a SS table using SSIS . I only care for new rows and not even changed rows.
Here is my logic -
1. Create Ole DB source to RemoteSERVER - using SELECT stmt
2. I have LoopUp component that will look for NEW records - Directs all rows that don't find match and redirect rows (error output).
3. Since I don't care for any rows that is matched in my lookup - I do nothing or I trash the rows
4. I send the error rows (NEW rows) into OleDB destination
RESULTS when I run the package locally and destination table is also local - WORKS FINE;
But when I run the package locally and destination table is in another Sserver (remote) - now rows is written.
The package is run thru BIDS manually so there is no sucurity restrictions attached to it.
I am not sure what I am missing. And I do not see error in my package either. It is not failing.

Hi i have set up two very simple tables, I want a user to be able to create a basic account ( data stored in User_Profile table with Id set as the Primery Key as Identity) I
want the user to be able to be able to return to their account at a later date
and then post multiple reviews of different bands they have seen at a later date.
I kept the tables in my example very simple so I could get my head
around the concept, but generally, I want to connect the Id (PK) value in
User_Profile table to the User_Id filed in the User_Review table,
so every review that user writes, will be connected directly to their Id.
Any help you could give would be fantastic a i have no idea where to start!!!

We want to compare one record in a table with other remaing records of the table that meet a criteria of a business logic.
eg.I have startcall_time,end_calltime as fields with other 50 fields.
As a business logic we need to subtract start_calltime of new record from end_calltime of previous record and do some calculations.These calculations have to be done for all the calls where endcalltime(of a record)-startcall(timeof a different record )meet a criteria.
A procedure in MS SQl is what we need to write.
Please help .

All- Supposing I have table_a and table_b. Table_a has fields FIRST_A and LAST_A for people's first and last names. Similarly, table_b has FIRST_B and LAST_B for people's first and last names.
How would I create a record in table_b for each record in table_a, such that for each added record, the values of FIRST_A is copied to FIRST_B and LAST_A is copied to LAST_B. (Table_b will have other fields that are left unfilled.)

I have looked everywhere but cannot find the solutions. I have two tables.
Table1 = tblvacation (10 records)
fields vacation_id, land, destination
Table2 = tblimages (1000 records)
fields image_id, vacation_id, folder, name
Both are related through vacation_id. Every vacation however has many pictures. I need a query where the result would give me back all records (vacations) from Table 1 with only 1 record from Table 2(one image per vacation).
I need to copy existing row data from one table into a new row in a different table, both in the same database. Can this be done in a stored procedure where the selected row is passed in as parameter value?
