I have a SQL table and a field called SpecReq. I want to copy the contents of SpecReq in each record to another field in the record called MeetTitle.
Can I do this with an update query or do I need to use Analyser ? Also what is the syntax please

I need to move all of the contents of one database into anther with the same schema, and it looks like this might be just what I need. But it is from 2007, so I wonder if it is still current?
Also, having tried to run it on another database to generate the script that will actually do the copying, I have a few questions. It looks like it generates statements to import the data twice. For example:

That does not really make any sense to me. It also generates statements like this:

What is the deal with the double hyphen by the servername? Won't it just see that as a comment? It can be easily fixed, but I am just suprised that it is still there after all these years. My purpose in doing this is a desparate attempt to salvege a database that sits on a server with multiple drive errors. These prevent backups, so I cannot just restore the database on the new server. That is why I want to try an approach that goes table by table, so that at least all the tables which are not touched by the drive errors can be moved.
It is a 3 TB database running on SQL Server 2008 R2 std. ed.
I have a table with about 2 million records.
One of the fields has data seperated by a comma. I need to be able to grap the data for each record and split those items into their own table in seperate rows. This is easy in Asp but the page will timeout before it can process all the records.

then manually I go in and add this field with data and SAVE it.
For some reason, few days later the apps cannot work. And I went into DB and found out that the mentioned field contents has become "NULL". What is going there in DB?

I have tables in my database, tblNames1, tblNames2, tblNames3, and a main addresses table (currently empty). Once I've imported the address data I need to match the addressIDs in the names tables to the Primary ID in the address table based on the values of a field CompanyName (which is common to all the tables) My issue is that I have a huge CSV file with the master address information but obviously SQL server needs to assign foreign keys so the names tables can linked to corresponding rows in address table. It's a a many to 1 relationship as their will be one address with multiple name entries. All the names are normalized so everything can be matched up...

The majority of values are in the format dd/mm/yyyy. However, some values contain the word 'various'.I'm attempting to compare the date chosen on a c# .net page with the values in the db and also return all the 'various' values as well.I have accomplished casting the varchar to a datetime and then comparing to the selected date on the .net page. However, it errors when it comes across the 'various' entrant.Is there anyway to carry out a select statement comparing the start_date values in the db to the selected date on the .net page and also pull out all 'various' entrants at the same time without it erroring? i thought about replacing the 'various' to a date like '01/01/2010' so it doesn't stumble over the none recognised format, but am unsure of how to do it.This is how far i have got: casting the varchar column to datetime and comparing. I have a table "abc" with there fields of same data type 'x','y','z'.
'x' is the primary key for the table 'abc', what I supposed to do is to copy the values under field 'y' to field 'z' irrespective of the values already with 'z'.

I am a little embarrased to be asking this question because I know that the answer must be simple but I am still a nube at SQL. I am stuck with a simple query that copies one field of data into another. Below is the script that I am trying to execute.
UPDATE table
SET field2 = field1
I get an error from SQL Server that says that the String or binary data would be truncated. I am assuming that the SQL server is trying to concatenate all the value of field1 into field2. All I am trying to do is copy the values of one field into another for each and every row in the table. Thanks in advance.

I'm using SQL Server 2000
When I am using a SQL Query I have an ability to control whether or not I am able to Include the Column Headers when copying or saving results.
The control exists in the Options > Query Results > Results to Grid > Include column headings etc.
My question is how to get this same ability when attempting to copy the results of a VIEW vs. a Query.
The idea is that when I setup a view it€™s a drag/drop type of query building (query building for dummies if you will). Once I have a view and click the Execute icon it will return all the records selected by the View. However, when I click the upper left/top box to select all rows and column and then try to copy/paste the records into Excel all the data copies just fine but the field name/column headers are not there.
How can I get the header fieldname date to copy/paste from View result set that I'm able to copy from a Query result set?

I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';

The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)

I have built a Disaster Recovery Site for my DB.on periodic basis, trn files from production server reach DR server and DR setup will apply them locally.
If the flow is smooth then no issues, if one of the file does not reach DR
the entire setup will halt for the want of the file and I dn't have any means to
know which file is missing.
Both my production and DR site located remotely behind firewalls, i.e i can't
physically access the servers or remotely login to the server.
Can anyone tell me how to see the contents in a folder in the server using

Is there a way to mask the contents of a cell or column? I have a table that stores passwords and I would like to mask the password much like Access does with asterisks. I know I can restrict the column based on user but that creates other problems on the frontend.

I have a report that has a snapshot enabled. I made some changes to my report and redeployed it, but when I view the report from the Report Manager web site the old version is getting used. Apparently the snapshot includes the rdl and the data and not just the data. Can anyone else confirm this? If this is the case, a new snapshot must be created after the report format is modified.

then I tried to copy files to new location on other drives, same server but got
>>Cannot copy <myfile>: Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use<<
I also tried rename of file without success.
I also tried with db service stoppet (not preferred) without success.
How to find out, which process locks the files?

Can someone tell me the way to get a table and its content to another database (I use two at webhosts4life)
Or perhaps a way to export the data of a table so I can do it at a later stage.
Is that at all possible with this program or do I have to use the non-express version?
