I have two users tables. One users table has a deleted column. The other users table is made up of users based on what dept they are in etc. I would like to get the values from a column (deleted) in the first table and copy the values over to a column in the second table.
I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
I have run the select query which returned one row. There is one column in it which has got large amount of data. I want to copy the complete content of that column(varchar(max)), but I am unable to do it. It's not the xml data. I don't want to do any conversions.
I have a table called 'Articles' whose columns are articleId (int), authorName (varchar) and article (binary). The primary key is articleId. I tried using DTS wizard available in Enterprise Manager 2000, to import the data from this table into a remote database table, but the data copy failed. I am thinking the binary column is causing the DTS data copy to fail. If someone could tell me what else I could do to transfer binary data to remote database(like an example of a data transfer query), then that would help me greatly.
Hi, I need to write a script that will be called during the database upgrade of my application. This is part of reorg of the tables. The script has to get data for say 4 columns from table A and insert it into another table B. Table B has identity insert column and remaining 4 columns matching the ones to be copied. The data is dependent on user database, hence number of records needs to be copied might be different. Also the columns can have null values.
I tried using bcp Command as follows.. bcp "select colA,colB,colC,colD from A" queryout "c: empA.dat" -t" " -r"" -c
I'm able to get the dat file, but not the format file. Can anyone tell me how to get it using query file with -c option. Also if there is better option to copy data, kindly let me know.
To do this successfully do I need to backup the Service master, Database master, and database itself from the the Source server, then restore all three of them on the destination server?
(I'm concerned that restoring the source Service Master key to a new target server with an existing sql 2005 install will screw things up big time.)
Hi, All, I have agentID in product table. Now I add agentID column in transaction table. Now I want to copy all agentID from product table to transaction table based on the order_id in both table. Can you show me an example? Thanks Betty
I am trying to copy an entire column of pricing into another price column.
Basically we use item_prc_1, item_prc_2, item_prc_3 to set different pricing structures. There are 52000+ SKUs in this table and I want to copy all item_prc_1 data to item_prc_2.
I also want to be able to constrain the data copied based on item_cat which contains the items category marker.

Is it possible to save column mapping definitions from a Transform Data Task? The practical use is I have four tables with very similar layouts of which 200 or so columns are identical. I have various front and back office applications that require local copies of this data in various formats. It is EXTREMELY tedious to remap all of the columns for each Transform Data Task required on these applications.
Is there a way to store all of the column mapping def's and import them into a new transform data task?
In SQL 2005 - when I display the results of a View and Copy all rows and columns, the resulting Paste in Excel does not include the column names.
How can I set SQL 2005 so the names of the columns will come along with the content of the copy function?
Background:
When I am using a SQL Query (instead of a view) I have the ability to control whether or not I am able to Include the Column Headers when copying or saving results. The control exists in the Options > Query Results > Results to Grid > Include column headings etc.
My question is how to get this same ability when attempting to copy the results of a VIEW vs. a Query.
I have a table with Million plus records. Due to Running Totals article, I have been able to calculate the Trial_Balance for all months.
Now I am trying to provide a Beginning Balance for all months and the Logic is the Beginning Balance of July would be the Trial_Balance of June. I need to be able to do this for multiple account types. So the two datasets that need to be included in logic is actindx and Calendar_Month.
For actindx of 2 and Calendar_Month of 2014-01-01The Trial_Balance_Debit is 19585.46 This would make the Beginning_Balance of actindx 2 and Calendar_Month of 2014-02-01 19585.46
I am trying to do some type of self join, but not sure how to include each actindx number differently.
Table creation and data insert is below.
SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO
SET ANSI_PADDING ON GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TrialBalance]( [Trial_Balance_ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
Hi,I have(had) an old Win2k Server server with about 30 web site databases(SQL 2000) that just went under due to hardware problems. Thankfully, Ihave backups of all the databases plus the MDF and LDF files from thehard drive.I want to move all of these sites and their data to a newer server(Win2003) running SQL2000.What's the best way to copy the database from the old server hard drive(now mounted as an extrnal drive to a local machine; I'm currentlyFTPing all of the web site directories from it to the new server)?Just upload the original data to the new server and then mount the MDFand LDF files within the new SQL server? Or do I restore the backupfiles in the new SQL2000?All of my previous data migrations have been DTS operations from onelive server to another, so no experience with either of the abovescenarios. I'll certainly have a lot more experience at one of them bythe time this weekend is through. Thanks for any help you can offer.

My question is how to get this same ability when attempting to copy the results of a VIEW vs. a Query. The idea is that when I setup a view it€™s a drag/drop type of query building (query building for dummies if you will). Once I have a view and click the Execute icon it will return all the records selected by the View. However, when I click the upper left/top box to select all rows and column and then try to copy/paste the records into Excel all the data copies just fine but the field name/column headers are not there. How can I get the header fieldname date to copy/paste from View result set that I'm able to copy from a Query result set? Thank you, Mike
I thought I saw this done once before. So today I hunted around inBooks OnLine and did a Google search. So far I have found nothingclose. So if you know how to do it, please tell me or if cannot bedone, I'd appreciate know that too. Thanks in advance,IanO
When I try to execute a package I get this following error. I have a bunch of similar packages which runs fine on the same source(sybase) and destination(sqlserver 2005), just different tables. Only few of them fails and all of them have the same error of "Unable to resolve column level collations. Bulk-copy cannot continue". I checked for the dtatatype and length between source and destination, both are same. The user have all the required rights on the objects in both source and destination.

Can anyone provide an expample of bulk copying XML data to a SQL table. I am also looking at using column mapping so that I can map fields and also insert a new GUID into the key of the SQL table. Many thanks
i have a claims_tbl that i am inserting into with claim information, the tbl contains a claim_seq number that i want to copy over to a user_info_tbl at the same time insert user information below is what i have tried with no luck insert into user_info(claim_seq) select Max(claim_seq) from claim_tbl update user_info set lname =upper(@lname), fname =upper(@fname), mname =upper(@mname), personnel = @personnel, p_position =upper(@position)where claim_seq = (Select Max(claim_seq) from user_info) i am getting duplicate rows of information ..........can someone help
there is a database with an table x and I want a copy of that in my testdatabase.
I am pretty sure, that I have done that the whole last week, but it's not working anymore.
I thinkt, that last time I used a statement like that to copy the table with structure and all.
insert into dbtest.dbo.x select * from db.dbo.x
Today it's only telling me, that the destinationtabel x is not present. The table has about 100 fields and I swear, I didnt create it by hand in the testdatabase, I'm definitely too lazy for that. I can't use the enterprise manager, I only can use sql.
There are still tables in my testdatabase, I copied last week. So what is wrong with my insert into?
All, Does anyone have amethod for copying db(all tables, procs etc..) but without the data. Scripting is not feasible because of number of objects constraints ..etc...
I am trying to copy item names from one database to another if they share the same code number. e.g.
UPDATE TABLE1 SET NAME = DB2.TABLE2.NAME WHERE CODE = DB2.TABLE2.CODE
I dont know how to specify the second db as using a '.' here doesnt seem to work. I have also tried '..' and DB2.dbo.TABLE2 but get the same error - 'The column prefix 'Train_DB_FinancialsProd.dbo.ITEM_DEFINITIONS' does not match with a table name or alias name used in the query.'
I have checked that the spelling is ok so not sure why it doesnt work.
I have also tried using a temp db in between to copy the values across then try to update from the temp table but couldnt make that work either. e.g.
create table #tdhname ( code char(50), name char(100) )
INSERT INTO #tdhname (code,name) select distinct code,name from Train_DB_FinancialsProd..item_definitions tritm where code = tritm.code and tritm.ittyp_refno = 241
update pharmacy_items set name = #tdhname.name <----- THIS DOESNT WORK where #tdhname.code = code

Help!!! I am trying to consolidate 5000 odd databases. Each database contains hundreds of tables. The tables in each database are identical to the tables in all of the other databases. Sounds simple doesn't it? However, SSIS has defied every trick that I have applied to this task including changing connectionstrings at run time through package configuration. has anyone out there ever tackled a similar challenge?. Please let me know
