Copy Data In Sql Server Table A To B On Same Server - Identical Schemas

Dec 13, 2006

Greetings,

I have two SQL Server tables on the same server and in the same database. I'll call them table A and table B. They have identical schemas. I need to insert all rows in table A into table B. (Don't laugh - this is just for testing and long run the tables will reside on different servers.)

Can someone please tell me the correct task to use for this and the connection type I need for both the source and destination?

Thanks,

SQL Server 2008 :: Compare Data Between Identical Table Structure?

Jun 18, 2015

I have two identical table structure with at least 60 or more columns!!

Table A
ID numeric(18, 0) Primary Key,
RefID numeric(18, 0),
CoNum Varchar(15),
PrevCode Varchar(15),
DispCode VArchar(15),
EffDate Date,
Sal numeric(18, 0),
SDeposit numeric(18, 0) Etc....

I need to compare Data between two table and provide result like this!

RefId ID, CoNum, PrevCode, DispCode, EffDate, Sal, SDeposit
1, ,No Match, ,20,5200,0

So condition like. If table A Column Data does not Equal Table B Column data then

If datatype is Date then display Difference of Days.

if Datatype is Numeric then display Difference between value.( it display 0 if doesn't have difference)

if Datatype is Varchar then display No Match word.

View Of Multiple Databases With Identical Schemas

Aug 24, 2006

I have several distributed databases with identical schemas that I have added to my SQL server as a set of linked servers. For the sake of simplicity consider a schema with single table with one column called Info. I would like to present a view with columns DatabaseName and Info, that presents all the rows from all the databases in a single view.

How can this be achieved this using a SQL Server View?

If not is not possible using Views, what approach you recommend?

SQL 2012 :: How To Copy Data From One Table On Remote Server A To B

Aug 12, 2015

how to copy a content of a table from one remote server to another,. server A does not see server B (B doesn't see A) - I cannot even ping to one from another.I do have SQL Studio installed on server C, which IT team configured to allow access to both A and B.So what I did so far is to periodically:

1. connect from the studio on server C to server A
2. run the following script on server A: SELECT * FROM A.myTable FOR XML PATH('ROOT')
3. copy the result
4. connect from the studio on server C to server B
5. to write something like

DECLARE @xmlData XML;
SET @xmlData = pasting here my result from item 3 above

6. INSERT INTO
SELECT

ref.value .....
FROM @xmlData.nodes('/myElemnet/ROOT')
xmlData( ref );

so it works. now there is a requirement to schedule this update to run periodically and I need to implement it..

MULTIPLE DATA SOURCES WITH SAME TABLE SCHEMAS IN SSIS

Apr 2, 2006

Hi,

I have the following scenario: N identical Databases (corresponding to different Fiscal Years, with names <Company Name>.<YEAR>). We want to consolidate the N DBs to a New Datawarehouse.

In SSIS we have designed a Dataflow that reads through a OLE DB Source (Connected to one of the N Databases) and maps to a OLE DB Destination (Connected to the NEW DB).

The question is, how we loop in SSIS through the N identical Connections, so to repeatedly execute the designed Dataflow, each time with a different Connection?

Thanks in Advance,

SQL Server 2014 :: How To Copy Data Rows From Hosting To Local Server

Mar 11, 2015

I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:

We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.

Here is what I want to do:

I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

[SQL SERVER 2005] Copy Data From One Database To Another On Same Server

Mar 29, 2007

Ok, here is my dilemma
I have an application that has many sites. Each site has it's own database. The databases have common tables (ie the name and fields are the same) What I want to be able to do is when creating a new database, I want to be able to copy certain common table data from one database to another. I have run into an error because the table have an IDENTITY so this is not working

INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers

I also tried
USE ADMS2_RSCS
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers ON
GO
INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers OFF
GO

I got an error saying that I need to have a column list. I am trying to use this for any tables, so my question is this..
Is there any way to get around using a column list or is there a way to dynamically create the column list?
Or, Is there a better way that I should be doing this?

Please keep in mind I am not a dba and everything I have learned about SQL is from my good pal Google :)

Thanks for any help

How To Copy The Data From One Server To Another Server Using Sql 2000 DTS Packages

Nov 12, 2007

I am trying to copy/update a table which is in server2 based on a similar table which is in server 1. I can't use replication,
so I am thinking which are the best ways to do without affecting the performance as the source table is busy with inserts or updates. I am thinking of following options:
1. SQL server 2000 DTS packages: As I am trying to copy the data from the source table(server1) into a destination table which is a similar table in server2, if I use dts first I want to take the complete snapshot and then on I only want to copy the new transactions or updated transactions, please let me know how I can do this.
2. Does trigger affect the performance as the server1(source table) is a busy server.
Please let me know. Thanks.

DTS Question - Copy Table From SQL Server To Non-SQL Server

Feb 19, 2004

I'm breaking into SQL 2000, and have completed a DTS package that imports and massages a file and creates a table with about 200M records.

Now I want to add a process that will export the table to a directory on a Windows 2000 server, in a format such as Access, dBase, or someting else, to make the table available for users who do not have assces to SQL 2000.

I'm having a problem deciding which DTS 'Task' should be used. I've tried several, but haven't stumbled on the correct one, or if I have, haven't realized it because of error messages.

Any tips to get me started will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

Copy Table To Another Server

Jun 12, 2008

Hi,

I am trying to copy a table from one server to another server using SQL Server Management Studio. I opened a new query window on the destination server and typed the following code:

EXEC sp_addLinkedServer 'VSQL025'

However it gives me an error as follows:
Could not find server 'VSQL025' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.

Not sure what I am doing wrong since I know that I need to connect to the source server, yet it errors out. I am new to this so please give me lots of details. Also, if I could copy the entire database between servers that would be better. Thank you.

Identical Server But Different Performance Puzzle

Mar 16, 2007

Guys,

We have MSSQL 2000 Server instance installed and working well on Windows 2003 Server machine [IBM X series-366] with 16GB RAM, 3.67GHZ cpu power, and 400GB hard disk space.

We further created an identical server instance on a new machine. More specifically, on Windows 2003 Server machine [Intel (R) Xeon (TM)] with 16GB RAM, 3.67GHZ cpu power, and 400GB hard disk space, we installed MSSQL 2000 Server and copied over all the dbs, applications ...

We were expecting same or similar performance (since processor speed, ram, hd, server and database configurations are all the same, with same indexes on same tables. However, for some reason, there is a noticeable difference in performance.

More specifically, I ran Profiler for 30 minutes on both servers simultaneously [same trace parameters]. The trace file of the new server is 3 times as large as that of the old one (i.e. It looks like more items are being processed). However, the average duration of the executed stored procedures is much longer on the new server than that of the old server.

Moreover, when I run same queries on 2 servers. The query on the new server always takes longer than that on the old server. And for tables where we don't have indexes, it takes much longer.

Following advice here(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274750/), we configured our new server (just as was our old one configured) to use 15GB of RAM. I further compared the configurations of 2 servers by executing sp_configure (with advance options). The only difference I saw was that "remote proc trans" is set to off on the new server and on on the old server. I don't think it could affect this issue though.

Furthermore, the new server appears to have many more locks, as compared to the old server. Could it be because it is processing more items?

I cannot figure what is causing the queries to be slower on the new server.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks a lot

SQL Server - Finding The Different Records In Two Identical Tables

Does anyone have a good query that would return records from two tables that are found in one, but not it the other table?  In my situation I have 2 tables that are duplicate tables and I need to find an additional 3000 records that were added to one of the tables.  I also have a composite key so the query would have col1, col2 and col3 as the composite key.  So far I have tried concatenating the 3 columns and giving the result an alias and then trying to show the ones that were not in both tables, but have been struggling.  Thanks..

Copy Data To SQL Server By Checking (available)

Oct 1, 2001

Hello,

I connect from SQL Server on Windows 2000 to Progress
Database on UNIX.
The database name of SQL Server is cstarsql and the
name is cstarint on UNIX.

I would like to schedule to copy data from
cstarint(Progress) to cstarsql(SQLServer). I did for
one time, but I want to control if the data has
already copied or not. If not, it will copy.

In DTS Query Builder to copy from Progress to SQL
Server,
SELECT * from calls WHERE call_date = TODAY
The name of table of calls is the same for both
database.The above calls is cstarint(Progress
Database)
This command is enough for one time. But I need to
control if the record has already copied.

In SQL Server, I control if the record is available or
not with @@FETCH_STATUS .
Now I would like to mix two queries, but I couldn't.
Can anybody do this?

DECLARE calls_cursor SCROLL CURSOR
FOR SELECT * FROM calls
WHERE call_date = TODAY

OPEN calls_cursor

-- Perform the first fetch.
FETCH NEXT FROM calls_cursor

-- Check @@FETCH_STATUS to see if there are any more
rows to fetch.
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
-- This is executed as long as the previous fetch
succeeds.
FETCH NEXT FROM calls_cursor
END

CLOSE calls_cursor
DEALLOCATE calls_cursor
