They are all located at the same server.

How To Copy User Permissions To Other Users?

Oct 10, 2001

Hi Everybody,

I am working on SQL 7.0/2000. I have given lot of permissions to the user 'duser1'. The permissions like select,etc..,create... Now I want to give the same permissions(what I have given to 'duser1') to the other user called 'duser2'. Right now I hvn't created any Database Roles or Server Roles.

Do we have any easy method to copy the permissions of one user to the other user?, like script generation or any method. If anybody knows that please guide me.

tks in advance,
Sam

Copy Database Wizard Permissions

Feb 14, 2008

I have two servers (server 2003) both running SQL Server Enterprise Edition Version 8. One SQL server is Primary, the other is Secondary. The system was doing a daily export from primary and import to secondary, but that quit working a while back. I'm trying to copy the databases from the Primary to the Secondary and than set up replication. I'm already stuck at copying the databases over using the copy database wizard. The servers are not on a domain, and the SQL server service is running as user ./sql. When using the copy database wizard i must use windows authication for it to select the Primary as the sourse, as inputing the SQL Server authication user (sql) and password says it cannot connect. When i select one of the databases to copy and run the wizard it gives me an error code -2147467259, in which google did not help me. It runs through the process of creating a temporary share, puts it in single user mode, detaches the DB, but fails to copy the file. I believe it is some sort of permissions issue on the drive, and gave user sql full access, and after that didnt work i gave "everyone" full access temporary to see if that worked but didnt. Do these servers need to be on a domain for this to work? I also read MSoft knowledgebase http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274463 Id rather not have set these up for a domain. Thanks!

Copy Permissions Of A Database Role

Jul 23, 2005

Brief description of the problem:My production server has about 50 databases and various permissions aregranted to public role on all these databases. Because of this any newuser added to any database gets unnecessary access to objects by virtueof being a member of public by default. I would like to fix this flawin the way the server is setup as below:1. Setup a new database role called NewRole on all 50 databases andcopy permissions to NewRole from public.2. Add all existing users to the new Role.3. Remove all permissions from public.Any suggestions on scripting this task are welcome.

Script To Copy Logins And Users With All Permissions

Jan 26, 2007

Hello all,I am looking for the script, which I believe exists already.I need tobe able to populate the script for security of one database andapply it to another database, even if it is located on another server:1. All logins which not exist have to be created and which existsignored including the NT accounts2. Users same as the old database + the existing ones stay in database3. Passwords for the new logins.4. All permissions/grants on all objects for the users that exists(usually it's the case) and ignore those that don't.I have script which does some of it, but it's not perfect, so everytime there are some errors.Please let me know, if you need me to email script that I have. It'spretty long so I cannot just post it in here.Thank you in advance.

DTS Designer Task: Copy Server Objects. What User Permissions Required?

Nov 6, 2006

I'm making a copy of some tanles between 2 servers.

Server 1 requires a sql login

Server 2 is using Windows Auth.

I have a user on server 1 named "odbc" able to log in.

however my copy task fails, when I drill the error, it's lists the first user in server 1 alphabetically as the failed login???? but in my dts I am specifying the "odbc" user and password.

I think I have a permissions problem on server 1. So my Question, what minimum permissions does user "odbc" need to copy a table?

On server 1 I can copy from northwind to server 2 just fine..but any other db on server 1 causes the weird failure with the wrong username.

Any Ideas? I am not a DBA obviously :)

Thanks,

Carl

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Copy File From SharePoint Library Using File System Task Permissions?

Jun 19, 2015

Historically I've always written a VB script to copy a file from a sharepoint library. I don't like this method because I have to input a username & password in the script and maintain a config file.

Yesterday I was playing around with using a file system task. The sharepoint file has a UNC path so why not? I created a simple test package with a single file system task that copies the sharepoint file (addressed via UNC) to another network location. Package runs fine locally.

I try running on our utility server but am getting a "The file name [SHAREPOINT UNC PATH] specified in the connection was not valid" error. Package is running with a proxy on the server and the proxy account has the same permissions to the sharepoint site (so far as I can tell) as me.

Table Permissions Versus View Permissions

Aug 2, 2006

Using SQL Server 2k5 sp1, Is there a way to deny users access to a specific column in a table and deny that same column to all stored procedures and views that use that column? I have a password field in a database in which I do not want anyone to have select permissions on (except one user). I denied access in the table itself, however the views still allow for the user to select that password. I know I can go through and set this on a view by view basis, but I am looking for something a little more global.

The Remote Copy Of Database X Has Not Been Rolled Forward To A Point In Time That Is Encompassed In The Local Copy

May 11, 2006

Hi,

I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:

alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go

The error message is:

The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.

I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)

1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1

2. backup database log

3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2

4. restore db with norecovery

5. restore log with norecovery

6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2

CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]

STATE=STARTED

AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)

FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)

7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2

:connect SQL2

alter database DBmirrorTest

Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';

go

8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1

:connect SQL1

alter database DBmirrorTest

Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';

go

This is where I got the error.

The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy

Thanks for any help,

Hi!
I did:
alter database mydb set single_user with rollback immediate;

then I tried to copy files to new location on other drives, same server but got
>>Cannot copy <myfile>: Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use<<

I also tried rename of file without success.
I also tried with db service stoppet (not preferred) without success.

How to find out, which process locks the files?

The 2005 server has two instances, 20 databases, two dozen maintenance plans, and over a hundred users. I really would like to use the utility so I don't have to recreate everything manually.

Questions About Bulk Copy Insert Using 'Memory Based Bulk Copy Operations'

Feb 1, 2007

Hi~,

Before implementing memory based bulk copy insert with IRowsetFastLoad interface of SQL Server 2005 OLE DB provider, I want to know some considerations.

- performance : compared with T-SQL's "BULK INSERT ..." and bcp utility

- SQL Server's resource usage : when running memory based bulk copy, server resource's influence

- server side action(behavior) : when server is busy, delayed-update means IRowsetFastLoad::Commit(true) method can insert right after?

- row-count : The rowcount limitation can be inserted by IRowsetFastLoad::InsertRow() method before IRowsetFastLoad::Commit

- any other guide lines

Questions About Memory Based Bulk Copy Operation(InsertRow Count,array Insert Directly,set Memory Based Bulk Copy Option)

Feb 15, 2007

Hi~, I have 3 questions about memory based bulk copy.

1. What is the limitation count of IRowsetFastLoad::InsertRow() method before IRowsetFastLoad::Commit(true)?
For example, how much insert row at below sample?(the max value of nCount)
for(i=0 ; i<nCount ; i++)
{
pIFastLoad->InsertRow(hAccessor, (void*)(&BulkData));
}

2. In above code sample, isn't there method of inserting prepared array at once directly(BulkData array, not for loop)

3. In OLE DB memory based bulk copy, what is the equivalent of below's T-SQL bulk copy option ?
BULK INSERT database_name.schema_name.table_name FROM 'data_file' WITH (ROWS_PER_BATCH = rows_per_batch, TABLOCK);

-------------------------------------------------------
My solution is like this. Is it correct?

// CoCreateInstance(...);
// Data source
// Create session

m_TableID.uName.pwszName = m_wszTableName;
m_TableID.eKind = DBKIND_NAME;

DBPROP rgProps[1];
DBPROPSET PropSet[1];

rgProps[0].dwOptions = DBPROPOPTIONS_REQUIRED;
rgProps[0].colid = DB_NULLID;
rgProps[0].vValue.vt = VT_BSTR;
rgProps[0].dwPropertyID = SSPROP_FASTLOADOPTIONS;
rgProps[0].vValue.bstrVal = L"ROWS_PER_BATCH = 10000,TABLOCK";

PropSet[0].rgProperties = rgProps;
PropSet[0].cProperties = 1;
PropSet[0].guidPropertySet = DBPROPSET_SQLSERVERROWSET;

if(m_pIOpenRowset)
{
if(FAILED(m_pIOpenRowset->OpenRowset(NULL,&m_TableID,NULL,IID_IRowsetFastLoad,1,PropSet,(LPUNKNOWN*)&m_pIRowsetFastLoad)))
{
return FALSE;
}
}
else
{
return FALSE;
}

BCP Permissions I Think

Feb 26, 2002

I am trying to setup a BCP command in a stored procedure it workds for me an administrator. i'm using a user's account in the username and password in the BCP command of a user that has DBO rights on the database i'm extracting the dat from. I can execute the stored procedure from my workstation and the server using my login account in QA. Using the username of the dbo account in QA i can get it to work at the server but not at my workstation orher workstation. my thoughts were that it was network permission related but i bumped her account to that of a domain admin and it still will only work on the server. it generates the following error.
The name specified is not recognized as an
internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

this is what i'm executing with the names changed to protect the innocent

EXEC MASTER..XP_CMDSHELL 'bcp file_test..table_out out C:filej.txt -U username -P password -c'
the environment is SQL7 on a 2000 Advanced server and we are running active directory.

i'm guessing it's something i'm just overlooking. i hope.
any help would be most appreciated.

WHat kind of permissions do you need to create a new job?
It looks like I am the only one that can since I have full administator rights. So I created the job and then changed ownership to another user,
but he cannot add a new step. WHen he tried to created a job he received message
ERROR 229 EXECUTE permission denied on object 'sp_enum-Sqlagent_subsystem'
database 'MSDB' owner DBO
I gave the user access to MSDB as DBO but it didn't make any difference.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
Is it possible for a user that runs one application against database A to update a table via a stored procedure i database B during runtime without beeing entered as a user in that database, i.e execute that stored procedure with a default or given user.
The reason is that we don't want to administrate an unknown number of users that will have no access to that database except via that stored procedure.

SQL Permissions

Jun 17, 1999

To all,
I need some help understanding some things about SQL permissions. Login ID A is a login mapped to the dbo of database A and B. Login ID B is aliased to dbo. Why when running a transfer from database A to B, it runs OK when run by Login A, but fails as Login B. In the failure situation, I get error 15244, only sa or dbo can set database permissions. I thought by virtue of the aliasing I had dbo permissions.
This SQL stuff is more confusing than any TCP/IP or Cisco stuff I have ever done.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

SQL Permissions

Jun 24, 2002

My SQLAdmins are asking for the following:

1) Administrator access to the local box on running SQL
2) The ability to access the SQLData directory directly through drive mappings

We are attempting to create as secure an environment as possible and keep everything locked down. In my opinion, they do not need these type of accesses. They do have sa priviliges to the SQL server but I see no reason to give them Windows 2000 administrator priviliges. Also, to further the security on the servers (they are publicly accessible), we are trying to eliminate all shares including admin shares. Seems to me they should be able to accomplish everything using the SQL tools. Am I off base on this?
