Copy Table And/or Records From SQL Server 2000 To 2005 Express
Apr 7, 2006
How can I copy a table from my sql server 2000 db to my sql server 2005 express edition?
I have a project in VS.NET 2005 and I have a db in App_Data folder. However, when I look into that folder, there is nothing visible. I now need to copy a table from my existing sql server 2000 to my db located in my project's App_Data folder.
Any help would be appreciated..

I have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables.
How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.

I have an application which stores records on a local SQL Express and I need to move the records to a SQL 2000 database. I have the SQL 2000 server linked in the Express Management Console (under Linked Servers). I'm trying to use a stored procedure to accomplish this, but get an error "Invalid object name 'ngtxa4-rsmsz-01.newpurchase.tblRequest'." Express uses a table named tblTRequest in the TempPurchase database, while 2000 uses a table named tblRequest in a NewPurchase database. Here is the stored procedure I'm using:
USE [tempPurchase]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[InsertRequestToMain] Script Date: 07/09/2007 08:54:56 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[InsertRequestToMain]
AS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO [ngtxa4-rsmsz-01].newpurchase.tblRequest
(fldRequestDate, fldRequiredBy, fldUserID, fldWorkAreaID, fldVendorID, fldClassID, fldEstimate, fldMemo, fldStatusID, fldStatusDate, fldSystemID,
fldtmpRequestID, fldUpdateCode)
SELECT fldRequestDate, fldRequiredBy, fldUserID, fldWorkAreaID, fldVendorID, fldClassID, fldEstimate, fldMemo, fldStatusID, fldStatusDate, fldSystemID,
tmpRequestID, UpdateCode
FROM tblTRequest
WHERE (fldHold = 0)
END
Any assistance with this would greatly be helpful. Thank you.

Hi all
I am using Windows XP Prof, SP2 and having Sql Server 2000, SP4 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1, and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit SP1 installed. The toolkit is the one which created me the DTS folder in the root with this applicattion:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTSWizard.exe
I start now this Wizard and choose from Sql server - which is my 2000 version and to my sql express version, id/pw or windows authentication. I receive then the message:
Cannot continue for the following reason:
1) You have chosen a server that does not contain any packages.
2) The server you have chosen is neither a sql server 2000 nor sql server 7
The SSIS Migration Wizard can only load packages from those servers.
Nice. I am having Sql server 2000 and want to go to 2005.
What I am doing from ? Do I need to create some packages on Sql server 2000 to be able to proceed this task ?
Regards
Chrs

Hi there
I'm pretty new to this SQL server thingie, and I have this question..
How do I copy a database from SQL Server 2000 to my local SQL Server Express? I have done this between 2000 before, but the manager for the express edition doesn't seem to have the copy task..
I really need to do this, since I have to work with a databse locally on my machine when developing...
I can't register my express server in the enterprise manager on the machine from which I need to copy the databse.. Seems to be a version incompability problem?
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks,
Kenny

I am using a SQL Server Agent jobs that run each morning to update the records in a table to match what they should be for that day. I built them and tested it using a test table called "testtable1". It worked fine. But when I switched over to our production table, it fails saying the table has to be decaled. What would be the difference. The production table has a "@" in front of the name, is that causing issues?
USE [Live_build]
GO
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
BEGIN
DELETE
FROM @ZIPLIST
INSERT INTO @ZIPLIST
SELECT * FROM tblZip3DSWed;
END

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!

How does one generate Transact-SQL for table structure in SQL server express 2005?
I have very limited access to an SQL server database (using rudimentary web based interface) for my hosted website. I am ready to deploy an application that was developed with Visual Studio 2005 using SQL server express as the database. I have four tables that I want to copy (structure only) from "express" to the hosted SQL server. I think I need to generate Transact-SQL statements to "create" the table structure, then run these statements as a stored procedure on the web based SQL server. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to generate the code from SQL express 2005. Anyone had any experience with this?
thanks.

I have 2 tables.
TABLE 1: AttachmentTypeDefaults (fields: DefaultId (pk), AttachmentType)
TABLE 2: AttachmentType (fields: AttachmentTypeId (pk), CompanyId, AttachmentType)
The @CompanyId variable has to be the IDENTITY of a new record that was just INSERTed into another table just before (in this new SP.)
What I want to do is loop thru the AttachmentTypeDefaults table and INSERT every record into the AttachmentType table and use the @CompanyId for every new record. (AttachmentTypeId will create itself.)
How would I do this?
Sounds easy but I am new.
I would like it to be compatible with SQL Server 2000 also.
I tried a query like this, but I don't think I'm close...
declare @MyNewIdentity int
SET @MyNewIdentity = SCOPE_IDENTITY()
-- Now INSERT default attachments
INSERT INTO AttachmentType(CompanyId, AttachmentType)
VALUES(
SELECT @MyNewIdentity AS CompanyId, AttachmentType
FROM AttachmentTypeDefaults)

In
one of our forth coming projects, with ASP.Net/C#/MSSQL Server, We have
to deal with a Business table having about 15 millions of records. We
want to know, that which methodologies should we adopt, both regarding
front end and back end perspective, so the site could give optimised
performance. Also in place of a Dedicated Server, the Hosting Company
provides MSDE (that come with .net). Will this create any problem with
this project, that have such a huge table? Should we go for some
advanced database technique, such as, Clustering, Spliting Tables, etc.
Followings are the fields that the business table contains:
ID, Category ID (which comes from a Category table, each business is
under a category), BusinessName, SignupDate, Address1, Address2, Phone
Number,
Hours Of Operation, Years in Business, LicenseNumber, DiscountCoupon, Website

Currently on my development machine i have SQL Express 2005 running.
On the production server, they have SQL 2000. So I need to get one of my databases from this server to the other one. From my understanding you can't export from 2005 to 2000 because of the drastic change.
What is the easiest way for me to do this?
create the tables manually and export the data in CSV and import it that way?
Cheers

Can I install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on the same server where I already have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition?
Doing this also includes replacing .Net Framework 1.1 with 2.0, could that cause any disturbances to the already existing SQL Server 2000 ?

Recently I decided to start using DotNetNuke, which uses an SQL Server database. My webhoster offers SQL Server 2000, and I was able to install and run DNN successfully there. However, I wish to have a local copy of DNN on my PC with the same contents as is on the web. It means that I need either to convert SQL Server 2000 database to my local SQL Server 2005 Express database, or vice versa.
Although I programmed in (Visual) FoxPro for many years, I am new to SQL Server and I am overwhelmed by the vast number of new terms. Can anyone tell me in simple English, how to perform the above mentioned conversions? My webhoster allows me to backup the SQL Server 2000 database in an *.sql file, but how shall I convert this file into an SQL Server 2005 Express *.mdf file?

Where do I have to pay attention to when doing this?
