Hi,
whats the best way to copy a table from sql server 2005 to 2000?
Thanks for any help...
I found a nice demo of using AJAX here
http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/12/26/433997.aspx
and want to use some of the code in my own website. But it uses a SQL DB and tables.
So without recreating thme manually what is the way to get these tables in MY DB?
I've tried creating a simple SSIS package but I get the error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".
THis is a known bug and while we wait for SP1 to fix this error, is there another way to simply copy tables (with indexes and without having the identity column renumbered) ?
Any help is appreciated!
I am racking my brain on this one. I am migrating Oracle data to SQL Server and would like an SSIS package that will copy the oracle data from every table to SQL server. I already have the schema set up in SQL and a straight copy of a specified table works fine between the OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However, when I set up a loop which sets a global variable for the table names, which are identical on both dbs, and try to set the OLEDB Source and Destination OpenRowsetVariable to the global variable, the process fails with these errors with all validation turned off:
[OLE DB Source [18]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
[OLE DB Source [18]] Error: Column "ID" cannot be found at the datasource.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (18) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202005.
To sum up, I want to set the tables dynamically and have them infer the mappings. The names of the columns are already the exact same on each schema, and the data types are mapped accordingly. I have already verified that the names of the tables have been formatted correctly for each database. If I can't do it this way then how?
Anyone who has successfully done this. Do reply. Thanks

Hi all
I am using Windows XP Prof, SP2 and having Sql Server 2000, SP4 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1, and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit SP1 installed. The toolkit is the one which created me the DTS folder in the root with this applicattion:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTSWizard.exe
I start now this Wizard and choose from Sql server - which is my 2000 version and to my sql express version, id/pw or windows authentication. I receive then the message:
Cannot continue for the following reason:
1) You have chosen a server that does not contain any packages.
2) The server you have chosen is neither a sql server 2000 nor sql server 7
The SSIS Migration Wizard can only load packages from those servers.
Nice. I am having Sql server 2000 and want to go to 2005.
What I am doing from ? Do I need to create some packages on Sql server 2000 to be able to proceed this task ?

Hi, I am trying to use SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition to copy tables from my local server to my hosts server at brinkster.com. In the old version you could use DTS, but everything seems to have got far more complicated now! Please can anybody guide me in the right direction? Thanks a lot.
I have a database that I am trying to copy to sql server 2005 and when I copy it the "Identity Seed" property loses its value.
I have tried to use the "Export" method by right clicking on the database then going to "Tasks" then "Export Data"
This copies all of the data but it removes the "Identity Seed" value.
When I run the "copy database" function it will also copy all of the data in the database but it will still not keep the "Identity Seed" value
I have many tables in the database with the identity seed field set to 1 on the primary key so that it will automatically create the primary key for each record.
Without this errors will occur in my web application because it thinks that I am trying to enter a null value into the primary key when it is supposed to auto populate.
When I export it with sql server 2005 it turns it back to zero.
The export function worked fine in Sql server 2000
The only way I can get it to work is by backing up the database and restoring it, but this is very time consuming and adds many steps to the process, and also makes it so that I have to overwrite my old database with the same name.
Is there a way to use the export function or the copy database function to retain the Identity Seed value
I really need this to continue do the switch to 2005 server. It seems like this may be a bug of some sort
How can I copy a table from my sql server 2000 db to my sql server 2005 express edition?
I have a project in VS.NET 2005 and I have a db in App_Data folder. However, when I look into that folder, there is nothing visible. I now need to copy a table from my existing sql server 2000 to my db located in my project's App_Data folder.
Any help would be appreciated..

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database. I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now. Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE? If so, then how do I deploy database tables to a web host? Also, how do you add local database(s) to SSMSE? I tried to use 'attach database' in SSMSE and it wouldn't allow me to navigate to My Documents folder where the database resides. Thanks...
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables.
How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!
I have a rather sizeable SQLServer 2000 database. To work on an issue, I would like to copy just a couple tables into SQL Server 2005 Express. How does one go about this efficiently?
Hello-
I need to know what would be the best way to perform a task I have been assigned. I have read multiple post online, and I came to the conclusion that the Import/Export wizard was my best choice. I'm trying to copy at least 80 tables from a SQL 2000 server to a SQL 2005 server. Currently I have these tables over on the destination server (SQL 2005) but this data is outdated and needs to be updated. The ulitimate goal would be to set up a SSIS process so that I can schedule this process to copy over once the data has passed QA. I followed through the Import/Export Wizard inside of the BID and I manually highlighted all of the tables and performed a edit "delete rows in destination table" . But to my alarm this did not occurr and now I have duplicate records in all of my 80 tables. I'm going to go through this process again, but I wanted to make sure this was going to be my best option.
Any suggestion ?

Hi,
I am trying to copy one database from one ms sql server 2000 to another ms sql server 2005. I would like to copy all tables, stored procedures, any other objects and the data in this database to the new server. How can I do that? I can not use attach or restore database method because of permission problem. However, I can use Linked server. How can I use Linked server to do that? Any other clues?
Thanks.
I have a table that I am basically reduplicating a couple of times for each part of this database that I want to create. Each table basically has the same data: The tables will be called motherTable, fatherTable, sonTable, daughterTable and so on.I am pretty much using the following in each column: UserID, MotherID(or FatherID or SonID, etc., etc. and so on for each unique table), FirstName, LastName, MiddleName, BirthPlace, Photo, Age.I don't see an option to copy a table and just modify the second ID part and rename that table accordingly. How can I make this an easier way of creating these similar tables without retyping all these columns over and over again? Thanks in advance.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHi!
I just used the SSIS Import and Export Wizard to copy 50+ tables from SS05 to SS2K.
I found that the wizard created a package that I could not figure out how to edit, e.g., to change whether or not it had to CREATE a table, or just use an existing one. (I created some problems by manually editing the receiving table names to be ones that already existed -- but the original names it had did not exist, so it knew it had to create them. What I should have done, and eventually ended up doing, was scroll through my list of tables in the "receiving" box; I just figured editing the name would be faster, not realizing what problems I would create for myself.)
Anyhow, now that I see the complex package that the wizard creates, with a LOOP over the 50+ tables, I would like to know how/where in the package it is storing the information about the tables to copy.
Basically the wizard creates the following Control Flow tab entries (in processing sequence order):
an Execute SQL Task: NonTransactableSql
an Execute SQL Task: START TRANSACTION
a Sequence Container: Transaction Scoping Sequence, which contains
an Execute SQL Task: AllowedToFailPrologueSql
an Execute SQL Task: PrologueSql
a Foreach Loop Container, which contains
a Transfer Task with an icon I did not notice in the Toolbox
an Execute Package Task: Execute Inner Package
an Execute SQL Task: EpilogueSql
an "on success" arrow to
an Execute SQL Task: COMMIT TRANSACTION
an Execute SQL Task: PostTransaction Sql
an "on failure" arrow to
an Execute SQL Task: ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
an Execute SQL Task: CompensatingSql
Where, and how, can I look within this package to see the details about the tables I am transferring? I see that one of the Connection Managers is "TableSchema.XML" -- but it points to a temporary file on my hard drive, that I presume is populated by the package. Where does it get its information?
This is certainly much more complex than the package I would have written, based on my limited knowledge of SSIS. I would have been inclined to create 50+ Data Flow tasks, one for each table.
So now I'm trying to understand why the Wizard created this more-complex package.
Any help will be appreciated, including references to non-Microsoft books/websites/etc.
Thanks in advance.
