I have "inherited" a project working on a SQL 2000 database. The project calculates commissions based on data from an invoice header table and an invoice details table. The goal is to extract data from the primary database tables, perform limited manipulations, and store the resultant data into a table in a different database for reference and reporting. I have the query complete that extracts and manipulates the data, but I am stuck in trying to add this data to the final storage/reporting table. I would also like to do error checking to be certain that a record is not "re-inserted" from the source data to the destination table. Thanks in advance, Barry

I am having a problem viewing data in a database table. The data is entered into the database with a web service and it runs without problems. However, when I open the table with the management tool, I cannot see the data I just sent to it.
Also, when I try adding data directly to the table, the id column shows that there is data in the table. That is lets say the id for the 1st item is "1", after sending 4 records to the database with the webservice, when I try to enter data in the table directly, the next available key is 5. This indicates that there is some data in the table that I cannot see.
Does anyone know how I can reslove this?Thanks!

hi, i'm trying to create a table and populate it with data from another database residing on the same server. i've done this on oracle using tables within the same database and am just making a first effort with the added twist of a different database. this is what i've been doing so far...

I am working on a migration project.
Doing the standard processing, taking source data in a staging database, where I then create the new target tables, transform the source data into the new target table structure, and load the data.
However, having created the new target tables in my staging database, I cannot accurately migrate these tables into the new database.
An example table.
The following is the script created by SQL Management Studio if I right click and script the table as CREATE.

Note that the field PRO_PackageID has an identity, and is a primary key.
Also note the constraints on several fields and the default values.
If I try to move this table and data using the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard, telling it to drop and create the table, and to keep identity, it does not correctly generate the table defintion - it generates the following script

We've lost the identity, the PK,the constraints and the defaults.
If I use the SSIS Transfer SQL Server Objects Task, then the primary key is kept, but the identity is not, nor are the constraints or defaults.
Am I missing something? Is it actually POSSIBLE to accurately move tables between databases?

i have two database on my sql server,, and i m trying to create a report in whch both database need to share their data.. @ the moment what i did, i simply create a view on one database to access the table of other database.. but is anyone has a better idea how can i transfer data from one database to another database... i think if i do with creating temp table that might resolve this problem.. but when it comes on another server of another database , how can i will do this ...

I have question on lock on table in SQL Server while inserting data using multiple processes at a single time into same table.Here are my questions on this,
1) Is it default behavior of SQL server to lock table while doing insert?
2) if yes to Q1, then how we can implicitly mention while inserting data.
3) If I have 4 tables and one table is having foreign keys from rest of the 3 tables, on this scenario do I need to use the table lock explicitly or without that I can insert records into those tables?

I have two tables (T1 and T2). In T1 I have a field FT1 that is aprimary key in T2 I have a field FT2 that is a foreign key linked toFT1. These fields have been populated with data. I have tried to restore master table with the restore function, but it doesn't work. When I try to do this I received a message informing that it can't copy the data because one file was in use. The server was in a single user mode.

I have a Excel cross-tab (multilevel column) report that need to be loaded into a database table. Currently, I am using a Excel macro that convert the columns into rows before loading into the database table. I was thinking whether there is a better way of doing this perhaps in SSIS or using XML.

I'm trying to export data from one of the table in my SQL 7.0 database into text file. Can someone tell me how can i do this using SQL Query instead of using BCP (command line) ?? Thank you in advance.

How do I join the data coming out from the above query with another table in the database, for example Employee in this case
i.e. somewhat like this (note the following query does not perform the join correctly)

I need to load this data into table with columns

I am learning SQLServer Integration Services.
I created a file People.txt containing firstName, LastName seperated by a pipe.

I will would like to create integration services package that compines each record of the first file with the record of the second file and inserts the result into table.

I have a comments field in database table which holds all html data, like bold chars and underline and with fonts etc.
Is it possible to show that data in the report or do i have to extract the data only by excluding all html / font tags etc.

I'm trying to get a database from SQL2005 to SQL2000. I already recreated the database in SQL2005 and I'm just trying to get some data from just a few tables.
It doesn't appear the DTS or any export functionality is available in my version of SQL Express 2005...so how do I do this. I've tried installing everything I can find.
I've also tried BCP but I keep getting these errors:

This is a LOCAL database and I have tried -T for trusted, I have also tried a username and password combination. The database is set to Allow Remote connections. Nothing is working.
