I created a SSIS package in my local computer to load data from flat file and convert data type and then load them into another table. Then I checked in the package into a shared server so that another person can access it. Then now he wants to chage source and destination file locations. Only the location is different. But when he changes the file location, It does not execute. Other machine SQL Express is running instead of SQL Developer version.
Where we went wrong? Is there any special way to copy SSIS packages?
I need to create a fairly simple package. And almost because of the simplicity, I'm stumped.
I need to copy all non-system tables from server1.database1 to server2.database2. Additionally, four of the 30+ tables need to be renamed on the fly -- i.e. their name will reflect the year and month that the copy takes place.
I've tried using the Transfer SQL Server Object Task to simply copy the tables, but I get flaky results at best with it. Sometimes it tells me the source table doesn't exist, when I can clearly see it (and I've selected it from the list). And even though I have turned on the Include Indexes option, they don't always come through.
I'm wondering if I need to do a For Each loop looking at an ADO object?
I'm working on an SSIS package that uses a vb.net script to grab some XML from a webservice (I'd explain why I'm not using a web service task here, but I'd just get angry), and I wish to then assign the XML string to a package variable which then gets sent along to a DataFlow Task that contains an XML Source that points at said variable. when I copy the XML string into the variable value in the script, if do a quickwatch on the variable (as in Dts.Variable("MyXML").value) it looks as though the new value has been copied to the variable, but when I step out of that task and look at the package explorer the variable is its original value.
I think the problem is that the dataflow XML source has a lock on the variable and so the script task isn't affecting it. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem, or know a workaround?
I am trying to execute a ssis package, where a user will be able to excute the package from an ASP page, the user will select a file, this will be the source file for the SSIS package, this will change when ever the package is executed, I was thinking of just using a sqlClient.sqlCommand and editing the command text and excuting it that way, or through a SP, would this be the best solution? Is there a better solution? and if not what would be the SQL command to execute the package, along with editing the variable?
I have a few flat files that will be retrieved from some SFTP server. One of the flat file will act as a terminal file where it will specify the total number of records expected in each other the flat file.
Data in the terminal.txt FileName TotalRecords File1 1000 File2 1500 File3 2000
So, before transforming the data from the flat file sources into the target destination, i wish to do a row count checking for each of the flat file source to make sure that the number of records in the flat file source is tally with the number of records specify in the terminal.txt file. I'm able to get the number of records in each of the flat file by using the RowCount component but don't know how to get the data out from the terminal.txt file in order to make a rowcount comparison.
Can any1 help me on this? Or is there any other way we can do to make sure that the flat file source is alright before proceeding with the data transformation task?
I have having trouble getting my hands around how to retrieve variables from a parent package. I read about the Environment variables and Configuration File at the parent package level and the Parent Package variable at the child level.
Here are my questions:
1. Can you only store/retrieve 1 variable in a config file at a time?
2. Does the child package have to define the variables and if so, do they have to be the same names as the parent package?
This seems so more more complex then the DTS2000 way of passing variables to and from packages.
Is there anyone know if a simple SSIS package (moving data from source table to target table) or task can be called repeatedly using a variable that obtains value once a time from a metadata table containing only table names. Basically, I would like to pass in a table variable to the SSIS package or task to start the ETL for different tables. Thanks a lot!
I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have conn type -- ole db connection -- some server sql source type -- direct input sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.
I having a problem getting the child package variable values into a parent package. Here is the scenario;
I have parent package(Master) calling two child packages using execute package task. I have no problem to pass variable values from the parent to child using the parent configuration but not able to get the variable values from the child to parent. I am setting the package status in each child package based on certain conditions and determine the final status in a parent based on child package variable statuses. Does any body have any idea? I will appreciate your thoughts.Thanks..Mako
I am trying to develop a SSIS package which will read the records from the flat file and insert them into a destination table. I have some validations written in script component. I have declared two Read Write variables with package level scope. when i try to assign a value to the variable in the script component and run the package, the package throws me an error "The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute".
What should be done to over come the problem please help me on this regard
I am building a generic SSIS where it takes a text source file and converts to a destination source file . However in the process I want to set the row delimiter and the column delimiter dynamically through the package variable. So that I can use it for any file transfer.
I saw the option for row delimiter in the file connection string property but did not see any column delimiter option.
My Requirement IS : 1strun: if the record does not exist in the table insert the record (file_name, last_modified_file_date) and create a copy in the archive folder with file_name_currentdate.csv
Daily run: retrieve the last_modified_file_date from the input file and check if the retrieved date is greater than the last_modified_file_date in the table:
If true: create a copy of the input file in the archive folder and update the last_modified_file_date in the table with the retrieved date
If false don’t do nothing because the file has been archived in one of the previous runs.I have already retrieving the modified date and File Nae iserting into Filename Table: (That table has 2 columns which are FileName and FileDate) so In script task everytime the variable getting Modified date(retrieve the last_modified_file_date from the input file). How I can Compre the existing table record and variable. I have already imported the all Filenames and Modified into table like below.
I have a file with a header row which contains the date of the file and under that all the columns without a header.
In SSIS package I skip row and manually name the different columns.
However, I want to use the column in the header row to store the date value in an SSIS variable and use that variable to write it to our staging table. How can I do this when I skip the header row?
Public Class ScriptMain Inherits UserComponent Dim smpid As String Dim Prdt As String Dim rcnt As Int64
[code]...
Using the Vb script above I am expecting to read the first row from a flat file source and transferring the data into two variable using script component.
I get the following errors one after the other:"The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute." "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I have an SSIS package that imports data from an Excel file, replaces any value in Excel that reads "NULL" to "", then writes the data to a couple of databases.
What I have discovered today, is I have two columns of dates, an admit date and discharge date column, and what I need to do is anywhere I have a null value in the discharge date column, I have to replace it with the value in the admit date column.
I have searched around online and tried a few things using the Replace funtion in Derived columns but no dice so far.
Hi i am Using Report_Date Column DBTimeStamp Data type. This isReport Date Taken From Current System Date from Varaible. I need Convert this Date Time Format to the Follwing Foramt .
"TO_DATE(Report_date, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')"
HOw to Achieve this one in SSIS Package . Any one give me a solution.
I have a data flow task in which I have a ADO NET source and OLE DB Destination. I have in the ADO NET source a sql command which pulls all the columns in a table. My requirement is to ignore a particular column, say column99. I opened advanced editor and deleted the mapping between the external and output columns for column99. I had also set the Error and Truncation to "Ignore Failure" for column99. I had also mapped the destination column to <Ignore> in OLD DB destination.
But this still throws the error-
Description: The ADO NET Source was unable to process the data. Field table-column99 missing an escape character for a quote.Unable to update PK WHERE clause.Error processing data batch.
I have some source files is there today it will have 4 columns..Tomorrow it will have 10 columns...my package is dynamically load the data to destination table..How we have do it in Using script task...
I have flat file (comma delimited) with 200 columns, and i want to import this to sql table using SSIS package, I create a Flat file source and sql server destination items from tool box. in destination item, i can not see the preview, for some reason, it is not reading the rows from source, Do I have to manually each and every column from source to destination under mapping tabl in destination item.
We have several hundred very simple ETL SSIS 2K8 package files (*.dtsx).
I'd like to be able to interrogate them to determine source and destination fields.
There's no great need to map source to dest or to extract data types.
So far, the most promising candidate is to load them using OPENROWSET into an XML field in a SS table. No problem there, but querying using OPENXML has me stumped.
The package files will change a couple of times per year, so the process needs to be repeatable with minimal manual intervention.
This may seem like an easy question, but I have a DTS package that I need to copy to another SQL server. Is this done easily? Can it be done (i think so?).
I am Using Derived column between Source and Destination Control. the Source input column PriceTime is String Data type. but in the Destination is should be a DATE TIME column. How to Convert this string to DateTime in the Derivied Column Control.
I already tried to in the Derived column control
PRICEDATETIME <add as new column> ((DT_DBTIMESTAMP)priceDateTime) database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]
But still throwing Error showing type case probelm
Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.
Just want to ask how can I copy a DTS Package? Something like "Save As"...saving a DTS Package to another package name in the same server, or copying a DTS package to another server.
What I am doing right now, is I create the whole package again just to have another copy of it.
I made some changes to the package, then did a Save (packagename) As..."Newpackagename" and then closed the original project without saving.
I then created a new Project, added the the New Package to it and that's fine.
However when I try to open up the original package, it throws an error complaining about a missing connection
"Error 1 Error loading Origen File Capture (1) 1.dtsx: The connection "DeleteFiles.dtsx" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found. h:interfacespnorthpnorthOrigen File Capture (1) 1.dtsx 1 1 "
"DeleteFiles.dtsx" refers to a package I've added to the new Project, but there's no reference to it in the original Project.
Is there any way to clean or restore the metadata so I don't get this error message?
Edit: I can Build the package successfully, even with the 'missing' connection. But it still won't open without throwing the error...
HI, we have something like 120 packages that need to be "upgraded" to a newer version of a template. Basically, we need to add a bunch of variables of various types (12-15 variables). Is there a way to open the package in a script task and add those variables programmatically? Or is there another way to do it (e.g. modify the dtsx file)?
When I am trying to insert to data from SQL ssis package to SharePoint list people or group column I am getting below error.[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "SharePoint List Destination" (25) failed with error code 0x80131500 while processing input "Component Input" (34). The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
I have a for each loop that populates from a set of flat files into a Sql Server table, I run the Flat file Import via a dts package embedded into Execute DTS 2000 Task. I want to pass the Sourcefile Name that is fetched by the For Each Loop to assign it Global Variable in DTS. how this can be made ?
